I had one of these from the Hero prop and it was by far my favorite movie prop replica I have ever owned. It's lineage made it the centerpiece to my collection. Unfortunately, I had to sell it due to some medical bills. It is probably the single prop I want back back that I never wanted to sell and would have kept for the rest of my life with my graflex ESB Luke saber.
My favorite katana, my favorite sword, is an onikiri 1045 high carbon steel shirasaya crimson colored katana that has a ring at the front of the handle so that the handle won't crack. It's a completely functional to use shirasaya. If is beautifully simplistic and I carry it around my townhouse often. It is such a solid piece that you litarilly would have to saw through the handle to remove the blade. So I know the feeling of possessing a katana that you really love.
SWEET! I was a broadsword believer until I saw Highlander and Ramirez's katana at the drive-in back in the day. Again I fell in love with Duncan's season casting even more, and ever since finally getting a Duncan Marto in 2007 I've been modding it into the season 1 (gradually, as pics, video and time allowed, I've gotten it very close). Recently found a long awaited Connor from Italy and thought maybe it was a gen two, until I saw your remarks about the arrowhead scales. Thanks for the info! GREAT collection!!
Maybe a handle that was made in the time, but I've never seen an original katana with one like the one in the movie. I'd not waste a dime on any of these, unless you are enamored of the movies. They are good, but not all that great.

I have one of those original Connor swords that I bought from the Highlander online store long long ago. I've always wanted the "Dark Magic" katana that Kane uses in Highlander III. No luck as of yet. ☹️
The online store only sold martos this was cast off a screen used by a private collector. Its not a remake or altered version. Dark Magic u can only get ahold of from point gallery right now I believe. U gotta get 1 from bitner i think he has a license.

Saw son original at sdcc and it looks spot on I have the only re imagined Connor H1 that Albion and Jose did back 99 Well I bought the handle tsuba from Albion secretly Lol!! And had Rick Barrett the original blade maker mount it on one of his blades for me. A-shame the project never took off 😢
I too am a massive H1 fan. However I do separate the facts of blade fighting from fiction. I am a 59 year old British man who saw Highlander on its original release, at the Odeon cinema, in Derby England. I myself now practice a Samurai art. My first training Samurai blade was from Marto...... honestly? It was terrible. Now continuing my training in the US a certain region of China makes far superior blades. From 1040 steel to 1095, and T10 (I have two 1095, and one T10). I agree that the Marto replica's are wall hangers. I once anchored a TV series dragon head and performed a simple strike against it with a 1095 Chinese blade, not testing to destruction....a simple strike. The dragon's head shattered, and revealed that the blade was a simple screw in afair, and the blade didn't fair well either. Please make sure that you let people know that wall hangers are simply that. Not for training.. A disclaimer would be appropriate.

I have wanted one of those swords freaking forever was was wanting a display piece with a decent blade And a nice thick brass tsuba. I'm hoping I will be like you and one day actually own a copy of the handle I have seen a lot of replicas that look really good but I'm kind of like you I kind of like the ugliness and roughness of the original lol I really wish someone would get the rights to reproduce and make screen accurate copies. I'm now 51 so I'm hoping they don't take 20 or 30 years lol.
Gothman's Epic Stuff, the original Ramirez katana that was used in Highlander 1, it was auctioned off for $20,000 which was the actual prop that Sean Connery used!
The H1 is actually very uncomfortable to wield. The fittings is incomplete. It doesn't have seppa in either side. That tsuba is very sharp it's the reason CL wears gloves in the movie. The tsuka is too thin. Then the brass pin gets in the way. I prefer the Genei version is way better. I own custom S1 with seppa for my Iaido training, Genei reverse panel version (point gallery from Sal, S4-S6 Duncan and Musashi from Texas Props. Love it 🤘🏼
Nice looking work. What kind of resin did you use for the tsuka? The Point Gallery review by Mathew Jensen said the Season One tsuka they use is made from high impact resin and carbon fiber.
Cheapest quick cure 1:1 epoxy I could get. Rock hard and looks great. Point gallery makes functional swords for some reason, not planning on going into battle myself. Mine just needs to sit on a wall
I actually have the Marto Connor katana, with the black ink you mentioned. My mom bought it for me for Christmas of 98, the same year I turned 18. I saw the first film when I was 10 or 11, and the series premiered a couple years later, so I grew up watching Duncan MacLeod evolve over the six years of the series. I didn't know that it's the sword Connor used in Endgame though. I want to get a Duncan sword as well, especially since I slightly prefer Duncan over Connor. However the Marto Duncan swords I've seen have a completely different dragon head than what was used on the show and the others I've seen that have at least a close facsimile of Duncan's dragon head look like very poor quality weapons. And although my Marto Connor katana is purely intended as a display weapon, not practical use, it's still in extremely good condition with very little wiggle in any of the "joints" even after almost 25 years. Which is the level of quality I would want in a Duncan sword.
Marto sword of the dragon replaced the original design by Sal and Steve. So the swords u see are accurate to most seasons of the show. A brass collar was added in later seasons. But the s1 is the only sword that varies from the over the counter sculpt marto put out
It's been many years since I looked so I'll take your word for it, but the swords I remember seeing in the official Highlander merchandise catalog (like in the late 90s) that were for Duncan, the dragon head in the picture looked different than the sculpts you showed in this video. Perhaps we're referring to different versions? Not trying to argue, you understand, just I remember what was pictured in the catalogs I had not looking like Duncan's weapon, the dragon head at least and that partially influencing me to choose Connor's weapon when telling my mom what I wanted for Christmas that year. Either way, this video has inspired me to go do some more in depth searches out there and see what I can find. Great content. I enjoyed it.

I have a custom replica made by Daryl Kyle that is a direct casting of a screen used H1 hero (I can't recall exactly which one but it may have been Thomas Mulack's sword). Mine also has tsuba and scabbard fittings cast in bronze from the original pieces and I have a hand forged, folded tamahagane Japanese blade with a clay tempered hamon. Congrats on your purchase. It looks fabulous.
Would you be willing to sell a cast of the H1 from your mold? I have a cast from the screen used H2 mold back when it was changing hands back in the day, so having an H1 to compliment it would be a lovely addition! Please do let me know!
The tsuva you got from the cutlery shop, is it made out of zinc? What did you use to make the cast copy? Was the original made out of micarta? Did Jose DeBraga create the original? Thank you 🤓 beautiful copy!
No this is not a Jose, this tsuka is cast from screen used. Yes the tsuba is zinc. No I didnt cast it. Got it on ebay. Not sure who cast this but it was from a United cutlery so it could be recast or a found part salvaged from a broken sword. Ebay so...unclear

@@davidguymon1673 no I do not have a 3d scanner, if I did it wouldn't help because it's a 1 part tube mold so u can't scan inside anyway, and I am not making copies of my mold or hilt. I did a few stunt swords and burned it out so I retired it and it stays in my collection but what little I have related to the project is staying in my collection. There were 2. One had a pin, one did not. There also was the broken head sword from the last fight.
Yes, it was bought by German collector Thomas Mulack and it was the version with the brass screw in the handle.

But the marto sword of the dragon is the actual sword Adrian used. Same sculpt. Season 1 was the only different sculpt

It's not a purchase it was acquired privately but not purchased. It was an exchange of lineage materials. Daryls was molded froms sword yes.
Also the handle casting is all I got, I assembled the rest. Unlike the rip offs of daryls this has no seem or mold lines from eras of recasting
