    NA OM602 engine turbocharged with OM603 KKK K24 turbocharger. Original 5,5mm injection pump is turned up to max and injection pump timing is advanced producing about 150 hp. Dyno showed 146 hp and 265 nm but there was a small boost leak then so my guess would be 150-160 hp. Turbo boost is 1.4-1.5 bar. The car is inspected for the turbo parts and it is street legal.

    Remember that that engine was not designed to run as a turned engine internally. So be easy on the turbo running.

      I have read that the engine can hold up with the original 5.5mm injection pump turned up on max fuel and a practical turbo producing ca 150 hp. But if you change to bigger pump elements then the engine won't hold up so long. The KKK K24 turbo is capable to 200 hp and engine can be runned with that power output for some time but the head gasket will fail very soon and you can put a metal gasket on the engine and it will last longer but then you will end with bended rods and failed bearings and other problems.

    HI. I would like to make my w124 like this. How did you do the oil delivery and return? What fittings did you use? where did you get the oil supply from? thanks and congratulations 😉

    • @Robin96
      @Robin96  6 місяців тому

      The oil is taken from the backside of the engine, There is a hex bolt on the cylinder head (5mm) if i rember correctly. And the oil return is on the upper part of the oil pan. A hole is drilled and the fitting for the hose is threaded in the hole with some kind of gasket glue so it dosen't come off from the oil pan. I really don't remember the sizes for the fittings anymore because this was done in autumn of 2021 and in 2022 there was some patching. Better intercooler hose clamps and better routing for the IC lines and second exhaust muffler. Both mufflers are straight thru type and the whole exhaust is 2.5 inch.

      Around 200 hp i think. But if you change to bigger turbo and bigger pump elements you can get 300 hp. Intercooler is a must have thing even if you only turning up the fuel on the stock injection pump to get the 200 hp. Otherwise the turbo only pumps hot air inside the engine and the power is not increasing so much and more stress on the engine. With intercooler you can increase the turbo boost pressure to 1.4 bar or 20 psi. The stock boost is only around 0.8 bar because there is no intercooler.

      About 1000€. Used was turbo 250€. Turbo intake manifold, turbo exhaust manifold, all silicone hoses and hard lines to and from the intercooler. Intake manifold modification to the intercooler was 300€. So all included was around 1000€. The silicone hoses and hard lines is not cheap.

    I have a 1985 w124 300d, OM603. The engine is all stock. I want to put a sport air intake and a straight pipe on it. What will it do to the engine, what should i do, should i do it or not? I asked a few people but no help. Can you help me out with some advises?

    • @Robin96
      @Robin96  Рік тому

      K&N air filter is unnecessary on NA engine and fully straight pipe is way too loud. I have tested it on mine. It would wake up everyone. But if you want to hear more straight-6 sound you can take the rear muffler off and leave the middle muffler. I have 2 straight through mufflers with 2.5 inch pipe even with turbo because i don't want drone with certain speeds. But if your engine has turbo you can have some fun with straight pipe sound. with turbo it's not so loud but there is gonna be drone with certain rpms and how much you give it throttle.

      @@Robin96 Yes it's a turbo diesel. Iam not really concerned about waking up the neighbours. What iam concerned about though is the engine, if I don't touch anything, will the engine have problems with the air filter and straight pipe? What does it do to the engine? Will it make it weaker or something? Thank you for your last response you have already helped a lot!

    • @Robin96
      @Robin96  Рік тому

      @@matejanosi879 The engine will not have any problems because there's nothing electronical that's going to monitor anything about intake or exhaust. It's good if the exhaust is big enough so the turbo back pressure is as low as possible. If you turn up the fuel on the injection pump and add intercooler you can get approximately 180 hp from the engine. The stock is 140-147 hp from the engine from factory. After that the injection pump and the turbo is gonna be the bottleneck. I have a link in one of my videos to google drive where is shown how to turn up the pump.

    • @matejanosi879
      @matejanosi879 Рік тому

      @@Robin96 the intercooler is a different problem it's a bit harder to get one inside. And yes I know it needs one if I want more power. But for now I think I'll be okay with a bit better sound and maybe a few more horses, around 5-10 would be nice, if that's possible. The straight pipe will go on the car, but for the air filter I'll make something that will allow me to put it in the stock filter box, 3D print a frame for it or something.

    Please can you tell me how many CC that pump deliver to make that kind of power , do you think 75cc with stock turbo can be enough to increase power to 150hp ?

    • @Robin96
      @Robin96  9 місяців тому

      That pump is delivering approx. 60-66cc of fuel. It's turned up to absolutely max. The fuel screw stopped to come any more out. Turbo pressure is 1.3-1.5 bar depending on the outside temperature. Stock OM603 turbo that i have (KKK K24) maxes out at 200 hp but fuel supply is not enough to that. But if you have OM602 stock turbo (KKK K14) i think it's too small for 150 hp and the turbo back pressure is gonna be too big. With 6mm elements the pump can deliver easy 90cc and the max is around 110-120cc i think.

      Thanks for the valuable information🙏, please tell me what you think about this set up and should I worry about high egt ( car will be driven gently ) all I need is low end torque ,I always drive around
      1500 and 2500rpm
      -Om602.961 engine condition 💯
      - 6mm elements swap from 605 turbo
      - max fuelling at 75cc
      - stock turbo (k14)
      - increase boost pressure to 1.3 bar
      - no intercooler (for now)

    • @Robin96
      @Robin96  9 місяців тому +1

      @@anassnouri6129 I would keep the small K14 turbo at max 1 bar. And without intercooler it's gonna only pump hot air in to the engine. The 300D Turbo Diesel OM603 have stock boost pressure around 0.8 bar because no intercooler. And for low end torque these old school diesels don't gonna produce much of it. My car with K24 starts to pull between 2000-2500 rpm but the K14 maybe starts to spool faster at lower rpms. I think if you put 1.3 bar and put enough fuel the turbo and the exhaust valves can melt of the high egt. And with high boost from the small turbo it overrevs and destroys itself. I would put max boost at 1 bar and adjust fuel so it dosen't smoke when floored at acceleration at full boost (1 bar). It would be good to hook up a egt and boost gauge to monitor that the exhaust pressure dosen't exceed the boost pressure very much.
      And be careful with the wastegate, i think 75cc of fuel is gonna spin that turbo up to 2+ bar if you tighten the spring too much. 1 bar boost and adjust fuel so it dosen't smoke on boost when floored on acceleration to avoid high egt as much as possible. Very little black smoke is allowed, so it looks like grey but is black. You can see it in the side mirror. I strongly recommend intercooler and bigger turbo K24 or garrett T3.
      I'm not expert on this. I putted the turbo on my car with help from other people on the internet and my stock 5,5mm pump and K24 is a good match. What i have read that the K14 is almost as small as a hand and will bottleneck very fast if fuel is increased and overrev if boost is too high. But i would want to hear later how the car is behaving and how much the turbo can do :)

      @@Robin96 I really appreciate your detailed insight 🙏🙏🙏, to be honest now I’m
      Considering the k24 and intercooler to be on the safe side , this build will be used as an experiment as the engine is still in the car before I start working
      On my om606 project , and also I already have pump with 6mm, so now my setup will be like this
      Pump max at 75cc
      K24/IC at 1.3
      Or you think I better set the pump at 65CC max to be on the safe side
      Also I can find a more performing t25 turbo easy and fit it to my stock manifold , all I need to not trash this beautiful om602 cos I’m planning to put it in w201 in the future , soon this w124 will be having om606 , again thanks for your great feedback

      @@anassnouri6129 The original 602.96x turbo engine with right parts should hold up to approx 250 hp. For example with holset hx35. The K24 maxes out at approx 200 hp so if you limit the boost to max 1.5 bar (it's the K24 max safe boost with intercooler) and adjust the fuel so it dosen't smoke on full acceleration. If you adjust it to 65cc you gonna get approx 150 hp with 1.3 bar with the K24. I think it's safe to run with 75cc on the K24 or as much as it allows before it's gonna bottleneck with black smoke on full acceleration. The 200 hp should be there between 75-90cc, i don't really know exactly. For example my K24 wastegate is tighted to bottom and with the 60-66cc it's boosting to max 1.5 bar but if i put 6mm elements and give it more fuel i would have to back off the wastegate to not go over 1.5 bar. I tried once to back off the wastegate to 0.85 bar and see the performance. No visible smoke but it feeled like the torque was missing so i tighted it back. The OM602.912 (naturally aspirated) max safe power for daily driving so it dosen't break is approx 150 hp. Too much power would result in head gasket fail and the pistons don't have the oil squirters like there is in the OM602.96x so NA engines pistons is gonna overheat when floored for long time. I gonna buy oil cooler for my engine some day because the oil pressure is only 1 bar on hot engine after the motorway when you stop. I use Mobil 1 5W-50 oil but it's simply getting too hot with the turbo.

      You need to open the the lid of the pump. You have very little room between oil filter housing and the pump lid on the OM601 because the engine is so short. I have link to google drive on my acceleration video how you can turn up OM60x pumps. There are 2 pictures one is regular and other is ELR/ARA pump. I hope it can help you. You should get around 10-15 hp more with fuel turned up.

      You need turbo exhaust manifold, turbo intake manifold. You can use for example OM603 exhaust manifold on OM602 and cut off 6:th cylinder and weld it shut. Or you can use OM602 turbo exhaust manifold and weld a compatible flench for the turbo. The 603 manifold has T3 flench and the 603 stock turbo (KKK K24) is good turbo for 602. Or Garrett T3
