As a veterinarian, these people are infuriating. People end up wasting money on things that don't work because people vilify veterinarians. The vast majority of us love animals and want to help in any way we can. We just also need to charge so we can eat and pay our staff a fair wage.

Vets are great but you can’t be too mad about the distrust when so many clinics charge $90+ to look at your pet, take a temp, weight and maybe offer some verbal advice. People get mad at human doctors for that, too. The stigma is there for a reason.

    • @ImCoolLikeThat

@@oppaloopa3698 that's literally the price to keep the lights on, pay for people to be there, and pay for medical equipment. Remember we have to use the same equipment as human med a lot of the time so get charged out the wazoo for it. 90 bucks is barely breaking even.

This makes me feel genuinely sick. If someone gets a placebo effect from chiropractics and wants to risk it, they can go for it. But an animal or baby isn’t going to get a placebo because they don’t know what’s happening

@@IamAlmostRealWitchThere is not a lot of research and the only one that exists it says that there might be a perceptive improvement on the eyes of caretakers and physicians that think the "therapy" (placebo) works, so children might also think so because of their caretakers reaction, but objectively there was no improvement. As the mother of a long-term NICU baby and being a spinal cord disabled wheelchair-user myself....I cannot even begin to tell you how horrifying it is for me to watch an infant get "adjusted"....holy SHIT.
Chiropractic is....there is a reason all orthopedic neurosurgeons are gym-bros, regardless of gender. Go watch a video of a spinal surgery where a bone is genuinely in need of moving--you will see one if not two (or more) incredibly jacked up surgeons using the power of the fulcrum of a 3-4' breaker bar and legit bouncing on it just to get a bone to actually move. Tendons are some tough buggers, and we articulate pretty snugly. I remain unconvinced by most of the claims I've heard about chiropractic care.
I'm not saying chiropractic is useless. I know it helps a lot of people; my grandmother was a long-term patient and got great relief from it. I've seen a rehabilitation specialist off and on for the last 15yrs who occasionally adjusts my pelvis (I have a disruption of my right SI from my accident.) But I think some of the basic claims of chiropractic like realigning your spine are a bit of bollacks. Just...my take.
I didn't finish med school or do a residency (because I had my daughter, actually). I *have* had two decades in an extremely battered and broken body which has required immense amounts of medical care & more surgeries than I can count--meaning I have more than the average person's working knowledge of the machinations of the spine. With that, and zero shade to the parents, I literally cannot fathom handing a newborn over to someone to be cracked like that. But I have seen my whole entire heart inside of an isolette hooked up to life support, and my empathy goes out to the parents of the babies who were harmed.

@@pupsap7714this is your take away? The commenter did not really express any feeling of regret or resentment towards their pregnancy, they didn’t even call it an “accident child”. It’s weird to take a comment that has little to do with the commenters experience pregnant to then reply with “thank god i’m not straight and have access to abortion”. And it’s especially weird doing that to someone who hasn’t shown displeasure at being a parent.
Like if you don’t want and dislike the thought of being pregnant or ending up a parent then that’s fine as long as that path makes you happy. But to make it seem like someone else might be displeased with that? or can’t be happy that way? it just comes across as weird

I'm really glad that more people are talking about this subject. I personally grew up with a dad who was part of the Christian science movement so he didn't believe in modern medicine but did support chiropractors and was related to one. As a result whenever my older brother and sister were dealing with bedwetting issues around the age of five because they were not coping with our dad divorcing their mom, he figured that the only solution was to take them both to his uncle who was a chiropractor to get their backs aligned. They did not know at the time that my brother and sister (and currently myself) all suffer from Ehlers-danlos Syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder that makes it very easy to dislocate or damage your joints. As a result my sister ended up with a herniated disc in her lower back at the age of five that never healed properly and causes her chronic pain into her adult life. ever since I found out that that happened I have not trusted chiropractors and I would not suggest that anyone go to them especially that anyone take a child to them, because one wrong move or one undiagnosed condition with a certain part of your body, and that chiropractor could literally paralyze you. It's also worth noting that chiropractors are not medical doctors and can't actually treat anything other than a "misaligned" spine, and even the way that they do that is based off of complete pseudoscience and quackery that has no basis in scientific study.
Personally I believe that people who take their children to chiropractors should be tried for negligence but that's just my opinion because of my family history with the subject.

My mom made me go to a chiropractor once. They made insane health claims, saying they could cure my depression, ADHD and insomnia and make me taller, and the process itself was extremely painful (to the point where I cried during it. I don't often cry from pain.). For a few weeks after, I had a lot more back and neck pain, to the point where I could barely turn my head without pain. After that I refused to go back. The reason my mom made me go was the because my back hurt a lot. This was because (as I had thought and a real doctor later confirmed) because I had terrible posture and carried a very heavy backpack around all day. Interestingly, my mom always complained that her back hurt more after she started going to the chiropractor.

OBGYN here who competes and trains horses professionally! unfortunately horse chiro is super common in the sporthorse world. i have seen adjustments on the pelvis and poll to be helpful in the event of microtrauma, but otherwise it’s just a lazy, cheap way to make owners feel better. physiology and proper, consistent exercise will always be the best line of action when treating any individual, be it human, horse, dog, or cat. i am a huge fan of acupuncture on both human and non-human animals (painless and effective, shown via empirical evidences), but it must be maintained with physical therapy and exercise. as for the babies, i will not even get into it for obvious reasons. i have had patients who received chiro work as children because of their parents and it has devastating consequences for their day to day discomfort. this is true of adults as well, but children rarely have medical autonomy.

As someone with scoliosis and a sternum that sinks in, I would never go near a chiropractor. I much prefer exercise and stretching. When I don't workout for a while my hips get misaligned but everytime I consistently stretch and workout my scoliosis looks a lot less severe and my sternum doesn't look as sunken in, it's just about consistency

I can't imagine if the doctor's did some quack hpv treatment on my sister instead of the one they actually did which we still almost lost her even with actual qualified doctor's.

It was kinda surprising to me to learn that chiropractic was so controversial, as the only exposure I had to it was the equine kind. And all the equine chiropracticers I've worked with have been liscenced, highly regarded vets. They make no claims about miracles, but are pretty practical about what it can and cannot do. I've seen it help horses, included my own with some pelvic problems.

I really don’t think we should be taking babies and animals who can’t consent to fake doctors that could potentially seriously injure them. I say that as someone that went to a chiropractor after a car accident and i felt amazing after those visits lol. But I was informed of the risks and made that decision on my own

When I was in HS, I went to a chiro because I had a very bad crick in my neck and could not breathe right. He cracks me. I feel better for a bit. Next day at school, my leg loses feeling and swells up. I don’t remember the details but he fucked up my sciatic nerve, my nervous system got confused, and now I have CRPS, literally called the most painful disease known to man, because of a chiropractor

What is the difference between a physical therapist and a chiroprachter? I know many people say Chiropractic care is largely a scam but what about PT? Edited: I think Chiro can be good for certain types of back pain, but not everything they claim to fix and NOT on babies

Just some insight, in Missouri if you want a chiropractor for your horse you are REQUIRED to get a fully licensed chiropractor that is a dr AND specializes in animals. If you can’t find that you are required to have an extensive vet examination the day before letting someone not certified to treat pets work on them. Even if they treat humans unless they are also certified to treat pets you are required to include the vet visit and cost.
Edit: Ps I shill wouldn’t ever expose this to my animals I just don’t see the point unless it’s for something incredibly specific. I only know about this from other equestrians. I myself have worse back and neck pain as the result of a chiropractor.

PRO-Animal-Chiro here. Years ago, a vet told me my cat had fusion of the lower spine and said she had about 6 months to live. She was in pain. Refusing to accept the normal vet's diagnosis, I took her to my chiropractor whom happened to also be one of the few chiropractors nearby whom also worked on animals. With chiropractic care, my cat regained mobility, was relieved of pain, and lived for another 6 YEARS - a full healthy life, passing at 15 years old. The regular vet was astonished. I was not as surprised, chiropractic care can be a great treatment when performed thoughtfully, whether it be on humans of any age, or other animals.

I’m all for doing your own research, it’s great! But when the bulk of information out there is actually bad and hard to understand, maybe take a step back and ask A QUALIFIED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL IN THE AREA OF EXPERTISE THAT PERTAINS TO YOU. I think getting adjusted is all fine and dandy but it certainly isn’t the magical cure all people seem to think it is.
Great video, always glad to see i

no matter what your body has going on, chiropractors try to insist the root cause is your back is misaligned. they say EVERYONE is misaligned. my parent's chiro tried to say i was "in severe need of adjustment" at age 8. i never had any back pain, leg pain, any other pain at that time, didnt have any actual problematic misalignment, just a very "normal" average shaped spine. the fact that people are doing this on animals and infants is horrendous and so dangerous. chiro should be for a specific spine-related issue, not for random shit. had another chiro say it would help my ptsd somehow. wheres the science proving thats the best option lol

You know that person in your life who constantly clicks their joints idly? You know how people (wrongly) say it'll give you arthritis? Well, chiropractic is like that if the risk of damage was real. If you have a crick in your neck, go lie down. Popping your joints does not cure any condition, drink some water. Also America seriously needs affordable healthcare so people don't do this.
