qanon is literally true maybe aside from the trump being a "savior" part, that is questionable
You will never get laid.
I was taught media literacy in school, it literally blows my mind how some folks will believe literally anything that comes on their screen without any research or questions asked
The mainstream relies on this as well. The majority of education is basically "don't think just remember this answer but use different words". Now the simpletons are waking up to the mainstream propaganda but unfortunately shifting their faith in social media propaganda and lies without question.
@@lunacouer you have no idea what generation I am from. I wasn’t talking about exclusively on the internet, I meant in an academic way- checking and siting sources, primary vs secondary sources, etc.
@@ducky19991 Fair. I deleted my comment.
Another problem is "how is one supposed to do research without media literacy?" It's why so many people entrenched in que constantly scream "do your research!" At any attempt to debunk them. It's impossible to do research or ask valid questions from deep inside a cult because the only sources you trust must be cult approved.
I dont think its that they “believe it” - Im sure they are reasonable about many other aspects of life, but people WANT to believe these things. Their rationality flies out of the window. Especially those with “personal anecdotal evidence” which you simply cannot logically refute, they will have massive confirmation bias
Media literacy is quite lacking and needs to be engrained in the way we teach from a young age to college years.
Additionally I am quite pleased to see the jump cuts reduced. The need to utilize them is understandable, but taking out every breath, every hesitation etc. is unnatural. Length be damned.
we used to have weekly library classes in the 00s and early 10s as an elementary school student. topics included internet safety, how to spot reliable news sources, plagiarism, and more. schools used to give lectures on cyberbullying and internet safety during this weekly block too because the internet was still seen as a new and "dangerous" for children, but now everyone's mom, two year old, and grandma uses it that these programs aren't taught in schools because schools expect the parents to teach their children about these things.
I think a good reason why to debunk claims of Misinformation is to teach people to not necessarily believe everything they see and to give them the skills to verify information they find and determine if it is true or false.
Which can give them the skills to prevent themselves from falling into more dangerous Conspiracies.
Just say utilize critical thinking
The lizard person joke seems funny until you realize where it comes from. Same with goblin stereotypes
I honestly had no idea where it came from and am very happy to have been informed by this video. I’ve made lizard people jokes in the past but now that I know it’s origins, I will be ceasing that behavior immediately.
Yea its the same ppl who argue that ppl like us are cultural marxists because we try to call them out on their bs beliefs.
@Doom Posterior no goblin stereotypes and lizard people conspiracies are based in antisemisme
Where did it originate from? I'm having trouble finding it.
@Doom Posterior it can also be an antisemitic stereotype!
edit- i don’t really think stereotype is the right word more like caricature
I think video hoaxes are especially persuasive because of how much closer it comes to replicating direct experience. It's hard to convince people their experiences are mistaken, they take it more personally.
Agree people on Tik Tok are insane. They thought CERN was going to summon demons on July fifth. 😂😂
It's counterintelligence. Takes the focus away from the obvious. What happens when CERN finds a way to harness the 'god particle' higgs boson, which can control the nature of other particles, and privatizes it into some elitist corporation or government. Every new discovery leads to a new way of enslaving the majority for the pleasure of the minority.
What does CERN stand for and what does it mean?
@@kittykittybangbang9367 CERN stands for Conseil européen pour la recherche nucléaire, which means European Organization for Nuclear Research in English. It operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Its headquarters are situated in Switzerland. CERN is known for its particle accelerators that they use for high-energy physics research.
the misinfo problem also extends to cancel culture/callout posts as well. a good friend of mine had a baseless & non-evidenced rumour started about her by her abusive ex after they broke up, and for YEARS afterwards & to this day, her comments are full of people still perpetuating the rumour. because of this she’s had very private images & information leaked by a hateful mob. it’s insane how damaging this problem is to real everyday people & not just political figures or corporations.
that’s not being cancelled that sounds like revenge porn
If he shared sexual images of any sort she has a revenge porn case…. That’s illegal.
@@peaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa same basic concept
Yeah it's almost like it's a bad idea to allow anybody a window into your life.
You reckon the Idaho 4 (+2) would have been killed if not for coming in contact with the killer through social media?
Great video! My much-younger sister (who I think was 16 or 17 at the time) was scared to get the vaccine because of misinfo on tiktok. I had to go through and debunk a lot of myths based on tiktoks. At least she had the excuse of being an incredibly naive and anxious teenager, but someone my age?? A 30+ year old adult should know better.
People believe capitalism is a meritocracy, so I am not surprised by any of the crazy shit people believe.
tHeY hAtE uS fOr OuR fReEdOm
it is
@@akjdhajkdjhaghjkadh9804 lol. Aren't you too old to believe in fairy tales?
@@akjdhajkdjhaghjkadh9804 It's so blatantly not a meritocracy that the term "meritocracy" was literally invented to describe what capitalism isn't. You can be born rich and never develop a single marketable skill and still die rich. The paths to obtaining skills and tokens of merit are hidden behind money, meaning the people most likely to be successful in high paying industries were born wealthy to begin with. Hence families made of generations of medical professionals. Some institutions in certain industries can almost completely collapse due to their own behavior or the behavior of policies they supported, such as banks or the fossil fuel industry, and they get bail outs from the government because the government decided that upholding these industries mostly unchanged is a priority. But if the common citizen goes bankrupt or into debt from a series of their own mistakes, or those they were coerced/forced into, there is very little recourse for them.
Also, wages differing for the same labor is the easiest way to disprove of your assumption.
Every time my wife brings me the phone and tiktok has something to say we fact check it together.
God I wish. The last time my partner showed me something on tiktok it was a video of a cat with a third eye obviously cgi’d on that he was CONVINCED was a real cat. I couldn’t believe he fell for that. I’ve seen a three-eyed cat before and it’s gruesome. Mutations in mammals aren’t cute and pretty.
He’s falling for more and more disinformation online and it’s scary to see. He’s exhausted working 10 hour workdays so I don’t want to tell him what he can’t do with what little free time he has, but he’s nearly literally being mind controlled. It’s happening to my parents and brother too. Between Facebook, Reddit and TikTok, they spend hours upon hours upon hours, daily, through the magic of gambling psychology. You would have to have a superhuman mental endurance to be fed as much disinformation as they’re being subjected to and still be able to resist all of it.
At this point I’ve stopped believing anyone has any agency in their own political beliefs in the age of the internet
I’m an elder millennial, so I’m my 30’s. We all had media training growing up because the fear of the internet at the time. I’m surprised to hear you say users in their 30’s. Get it together millennials, we know better.
I just got that there are no other people my age online and that everybody else is some 40 year old dude who looks like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons who lives in a basement who is lying
No. No we don't know better lol
@@skullingtonfx4441 older generations swear they know better they are just as susceptible to misinformation and not all of u had media literacy training 🤣
@@junyaiwase my folks are like this. I don't care anymore though, ignorance is bliss right
I don't know whether you're a fan of horror media yourself. But it's really common on horror content for people to comment/respond pretending to believe it. It adds to the spookiness. /r/nosleep is a good example, nobody is allowed to point out the stories are fake and everyone has to interact with them like they're real. It's just a bit of fun. I've left similar comments on all sorts of things and I don't believe in ghosts or anything like that.
My absolute favourite comment on NoSleep was the kind of detailed explanation of how to get marker stains out of couch cushions you'd find on a parenting subreddit, followed by a casual "oh and the imaginary friend broke your mug."
This isn't always the case tho especially on tiktok
i deleted tiktok a year ago and that’s when i realized i was addicted bc i kept thinking about it, but now i feel so much better
i’ve only been off tiktok for a few months but it’s been so good for me. tiktok is so toxic for a number of reasons and it’s super addictive.
We have a big issue with media literacy and it’s so concerning my dad is awful at it and he is almost 60 you don’t have to be young and stupid to believe in false information
The "furries want litter boxes in schools!!" One is a really dumb one rn
"When I am governor the furry days are over" - something a candidate actually said in a rally
American politics sure is brilliant lmao
@@skullingtonfx4441 damn moving to America to prove them wrong
I really do worry about our culture's lack of media literacy education. I do my best to teach my kids to be skeptical, but even then my 10yo will still come to me sometimes believing an obviously fake (to me) video and we'll have to have another discussion about not believing everything you see/read. My 14yo is harder, because they're at the age where they think they know everything and I'm just old alarmist Mom trying to rain on the parade
I have to wonder if being inundated with so much …garbage on Tik Tok makes users get worn down so as not to question logic. Because so many videos are so short that it doesn’t give people enough time to reflect on what they’re seeing, thus it’s easier to not be as critical. This is obviously not true for everyone, but it might be for some?
I remember believing crazy shit on yt like "unicorn caught on tape" when I was a kid lolol
It does definitely help get out of Unicorns Are Real Trutherism as an elementary schooler when all the rational adults around you can help shake you out of it when you’re too old to keep believing in unicorns. Lizard person 9/11 Obama vaccines Ancient Aliens believers in their 60s and still voting

I love the originality of your analysis and general video topics. Even if it’s a common topic I’ve worn out on, I know your videos will always be a good watch and interesting in-spite of that
Came in from Xanderhals stream and I wanna say that this video is so important and I’m glad you put this out there ! Good job !!!
Robert, your willingness to apologize for mistakes despite your intentions not being harmful is something that everyone should learn from. Something that I absolutely hate is people who refuse to apologize or only halfway apologize because they "had good intentions". Intentions do not determine outcome and are not an excuse for ignorance. I have hurt people with no ill intent, and I always apologize. It isn't that hard. I never understand why so many people have such a hard time saying "I'm sorry, I made a mistake and I will not do it again." Whilst your apology is not mine to receive, I do feel the need to say good on you for making it. So many people would have not said anything once they learned of their mistake. You, on the other hand, apologized before anyone ever told you that you needed to. And that, right there, is what a good and decent human with insight and self awareness does!
Another important video. I appreciate your vulnerability in apologizing for your mistakes, but I'm not someone who can accept the apology itself. Your faith in your audience is humbling. Sending love to those who continue to be affected by antisemitism, I fight it whenever it appears in front of me.
As for TikTok, I've been on and off of it since 2016 (Musical.ly times) and 2018 when it was TikTok. I've had only the most controversial videos get a lot of views. TikTok will always push it with no ethics, at least that's how I foresee the capitalism continuing its thing.
Not me watching a "TikToks that have vine energy" UA-cam comp because I'm trying to watch nothing content to wind down for the day and seeing the grandpa TikTok re-uploaded on it with a bunch of people freaking out in the comments
I think the line drawn between Ariana melting and Nancy being a cyborg is true to a large extent, except it goes from Nancy to Ariana, not the other way around. Someone who believes Nancy is a cyborg probably would very easily believe other wacky, but ultimately non harmful shit. While the person who believes the occasional wacky non harmful shit, probably won't jump to the cyborg.
I still haven’t forgiven you for that seagull stealing your pizza video 😭😭😭😭
I always say if you act confident enough ppl will believe almost anything you say
Yes!! Makes me think of “may u carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man” Lmao
That's why I never started using it. Too much stupid and it's rapid fire. It starts making me mad lol and then trying to reason with or correct them is...I just don't anymore. At first I thought it's gotta be kids but, think about fb. It's exactly the same. The internet has brought so much to light to me. It is a blessing and a curse.
this is one of the reasons why i don't have tiktok
Another incredible video Robert. You save such a clear and direct communication style that is so refreshing! You don't ever try to ride the fence in a futile attempt to please everyone, like so many others do. Your points are always so well thought out and I agree with everything that you said in this video. Thank you for all of the time and research that you put into these videos, your hard work does not go unnoticed.
Something that’s aids this misinformation is their new search feature. At the top of their comment section, there’s something you can click that will take you to more tiktoks based on that topic. Eg: if you go to the comments of Robert’s dog video, you could search up “dogs communicating with the dead” without even writing it into the search bar.
No one is making a tiktok on why that’s wrong because most know it’s not since they looked it up online at one point which shown them several reasons why they’re wrong. With this, it’s easy for kids to use tiktok as Google and go down a rabbit hole of misinformation.
It’s not that people are more naive, it’s that these platforms are removing peoples abilities to think for themselves. It’s like tiktok saying “why go through the hassle of finding credible evidence when there’s many unqualified people talking about it using the same video right here!”
It may be a stretch to say that a new search bar is tiktoks way of brain washing us and turning us into sheeple who can’t live without an app, but it’s definitely a step in the direction of a less free minded society
We need to stop making misinformation profitable, and move past capitalism. Once housing, healthcare, education, and transportation and other human rights are garenteed and workplaces are democratic the fun silly ones might not go away immediately but we can actively battle the harmful ones that are also EXTREMELY profitable
Hey man, came across your channel while researching for my own content and hat off to you.
You explain complex topics very well and make it easy to understand. Role model 👑
Omg your Ariana Grande video came up on my tiktok fyp yesterday and I believed it 😭 How dare you make an example out of me
yooo your VFX game is great though! That effect was smooth 😳
How did you remove yourself from the original plate?
i wish media literacy was taught when I was in school. it’s a very useful skill that many people don’t have ): i came here from xanderhal’s stream and the video is very great
Honestly, people just need scientific literacy. Instead of "what to think" shoved down their throats, it should be "how to think" shoved down their throats. Less nonsense more science.
Im sorry but my guy looks like a grown up Rowley Jefferson
UA-cam randomly recommended this to me and i'm pleasantly surprised. This video is really good, I look forward to seeing more videos!
It's so interesting that this video popped up on my recommended. I've ran across your faked videos this week while scrolling TikTok and even laughed at the Ariana Grande wax figure video and sent it to my wife. It's a great way to illustrate how easily the misinformation spreads, and I was even complicit! Wowza!
Robert you are my favorite content creator! Just turned on post notifications for you. I’ve been watching your channel for well over a year. Your ability to weigh nuances and draw various comparisons, while still considering the same topic, always keeps me engaged! This is one of my favorite videos of yours. You summed up this topic fantastically. Also you have a fabulous narration voice. Big fan! You will be the reason I eventually get a Patreon account!!
My mom sent me this video and before I had a chance to see it, we discussed it. I had a conversation with my brother about how she keeps sending me fake videos that she thinks are real. We decided to just let her have it. She once watched a mockumentary about mermaids and was convinced of their existence. I love her but she's 🤣😧
Yet another new subscriber from the Xan gang, what an underrated gem of a channel you have! We need more eyeball on this, you're doing amazing work!

Great video once again!
I'm so glad I found your channel
Dude, I'm an archaeology student and I've seen so many stupid tiktoks filled with misinformation about history, it physically hurts. Stuff like the Romans aren't real and never existed because "there are no receipts of their existence" (which there defffinetly is), ancient Greeks must have been black because the atmosphere wasn't as developed back then so their skin would've burned if they had lighter skin (the formation of the atmosphere was completed millions and millions of years ago and in their art works the ancient Greeks look pretty much the same as modern Greeks), Asian people are actually black because they originate from cave men who came from Africa (which we all do, because all humans that live today stem from the same people that originated from Africa), Celts originated in Ireland and everyone else who connects with celtic culture is appropriating (Celts originated from the black sea and spread all over Europe, probably every European has some celtic ancestors). I could go on but as somebody who has the goal to gain accurate historic knowledge and make others wiser as well on the process it pains me that those tiktoks get so much attention and some even believe in what is being said.
you fooled me with the ariana madame tussaund video!! i can't believe i didn't notice who posted it!!

8:15 no way I saw that the other day and totally thought it was real
thank you so much for telling me about the roots of that lizard people conspiracy. i had no idea. shits crazy.
I think that the problem is that they make fake things look real, but that they make reallity look fake, completely fantastical and "unreal". Their purpouse is not to make the untrue seem true, but to make you question the truthfulness of reality
I love this video! I have been trying to explain this

I’m getting really irritated of the things on starting to see on tiktok like ppl a FULLY coming up with really crazy conspiracy theories and ppl in the comment are just AGREEING like nothing its disturbing
Even though a lot of the media literacy issues that are the most clear at the moment are with those who are older and didn't grow up with social media, I have been seeing a rather shocking amount of internet/social media illiteracy among those who just didn't grow up while seeing these types of trends, scams and such develop and turn into today's internet/app landscape, I am genuinely concerned with the amount of fellow gen z that have no idea how certain things get promoted to them, the likelihood of ads being scams or intended to advertise gambling-lite products/websites/apps etc.
This is the main reason why i dont like tiktok because they just believe anything. When i first hear any kind of news/"facts" or whatever on TikTk I do research besides running with i to check
This is an AI problem, and it can only be solved by another AI. Humans are far too susceptible to manipulation, history already proves that, that vulnerability is even more exploitable today than it has ever been and will without any doubt get worse.
Is this why you made that video of a seagull stealing an entire pizza 😂😂

I don't think that the lizard people begins with the Elders of Zion text, it was David Ickei believe, who used them as a very thin metaphor for jewish people. It is antisemetic but indo not think that is the origin for that particular antisemetic trope, though EoZ is responsible for many others.
I work in machine learning and I have a pure mathematics background. The failure of mathematicians to impose an ethics code on their own society has been one of the most detrimental things to the human race in my opinion. There is absolutely nobody else who can stop war like mathematicians can stop war. There's nobody else who can prevent commercial enterprises from exploding people like mathematicians can. And I consider programmers subset of mathematicians. If we did not comply with this stuff, bad actors would not have the physical ability to complete their mission. We are the only people who can preserve world peace. The only people. You should not sleep even one tiny bit on your morality with that.

I think you've been huffing too much TikTok. Got that whole god complex going on.
I see what you mean but I think you’re being a bit narrow with this idea. You’re really neglecting the psychology and power parts of war and peace. The battle strategy and medical skill. Other scientists not focused on math (though of course all heavily intertwine). Mathematicians couldn’t develop a nuke without chemists and physicists. They couldn’t develop a vaccine or overturn unjust laws.
Like language math is used by people with different goals and awareness of the information they spread. It’s a very important tool, but not the end all be all. Statistics shows just how much it relies on who uses the stats. The mathematician could’ve made sound ethical calculations, but the politician/executive/etc who uses those results purposefully misrepresents them for propaganda.
So what you’re saying is it’s a conspiracy… by the mathematicians… to sow social, political and economic discord… interesting🤨🤨
/s
I hope this is a joke because that sound unhinged as fuck as cult leader who say they have received wisdom because of X, mathatics doesn't make you an ethicist, mathematics doesn't have an opinion it's just codification of logic and logical relation through extreme abstraction. Whatever ethics your received in your education probably wasn't even tought out by a mathematician or even a scientist, yet it probably made sense.

is this unique to tiktok? or something that's an issue across all social media [especially fb]
I disagree with the whole 'age of misinformation' argument. Misinformation has and will continue to be presistent, so long as governments and biased media exist. If anything, it's easier than ever to do research on your own rather than limit your understanding of the world to the weekly paper or your local radio station. We live in an age of laziness, people need to be taught to put effort into finding the truths for themselves, rather than taking everything at face value because it followers their narrative. Censoring platforms under guise of moderation is something I will always oppose, teach people to do their own research instead.
I typed this as the video started.
Its not really a Tik tok thing, its more of a media plus easily manipulated people thing. I'm sure you'll bring it up though.
i didn't know the lizard thing was based on antisemitism either, but somehow i'm not surprised in the slightest.
Omfg I have a friend ( bless her soul) who will completely solemnly tell me about some things she’s ‘learned’ from TikTok and I’m always just like …: girl…. Maybe !!

Personally, I wouldn't consider the dog ghost video a good example for people believing lies on TikTok. Someone commenting 'the dog sees what we don't' does not indicate genuine belief to me.
Don't you think it's funny how they have such powerful algorithms when it comes to feeding you with content for their own profit but act like they can't find an algorithm that deletes hurtful content and misinformation 🙃
