Many people say you can discern someone's biological sex from their features, but these same people often hold transphobic beliefs. Is what they say true?

When I was a kid I was physically pushed out of the girls restroom because they assumed I was a boy on account of my short hair at the time. It was so traumatic and embarrassing I didn’t use public restrooms almost until I went to college.
In recent years, because of the rise in transphobic rhetoric, people are starting to accost me in public restrooms again. Asking me “what are you doing here?” Kids asking their parents “Is that a boy?” Older women saying to me “this is the women’s restroom, you need to leave.”
I’m AFAB and I have longer hair now, but I dress masculine and have more masculine facial features apparently.

Not gonna lie, that's one reason I don't want short hair. I prefer masculine clothes, they fit me better (my shoulders are wider making dress shirts harder to fit, and my waist isn't that much smaller than my hips). At least with my hair that's the one thing people use to justify me being in feminine spaces. And I guess my voice. I sing tenor, but apparently my talking voice is more feminine. I've heard a lot of people say, "you're just a tomboy," or "be a masculine woman, not trans," and it's a lot deeper than they think. People do still have some negativity around how someone expresses themself, and they seem to have a hard time when someone doesn't neatly fit into one of two boxes. When reality isn't that simple.

I am also cis and have been repeatedly misgendered in the same exact way. I am a woman with no real curves that are stereotypically feminine, and many have asked if I'm trans because of this (idk this is the reason they give me when they find out they're wrong) the thing is when people "ask" if you are trans, it comes across more like an aggressive accusation most of the time. Yes while they are still "only asking", I'm always treated like I'm doing something wrong until I reveal I am in fact, not trans. It makes me incredibly disheartened when this happens because what if I was trans? There is no "out" so to speak in that kind of encounter, and it's extremely dangerous.

@cheese7119 I've heard several conversations with agender people, and a recurring trend is a lack of gender _euphoria._ Amusingly, this sometimes results in the agender person putting up resistance to the notion of binary trans people, because the agender person can't imagine genuinely wanting to partake of a gender role, rather than simply accepting the role they were assigned.

I've really liked an analogy a particular trans creator made, that being agender is like looking at several scripts people around you have written and not vibing with any of those. None of the pronouns or the gender presentation or whatever resonate with you, really. You just don't want to perform anything, you don't even expect to be perceived as any sex or gender and until you are… like, when I'm alone or mostly with other nb people, I forget that gender or sex is a thing. And then suddenly being addressed by a stranger as a young man/lady (I'm androgynous so I get both occasionally) feels weird, because out of the blue you're reminded that's a thing.

Whenever you ask anyone what the difference is between the sexes, usually they'll say genitals, but they completely forget that *generally* we don't go around inspecting people's genitals before we determine whether to say "ma'am" or "sir". Individuals got their sex assigned based on genitals, which is still only an assumption that's often but not always in line with their actual gametes (which is the *actual* biological definition of male/female). But that genital-based information is only passed on to others through communication (like saying "this is Mr. Jones" when introducing someone etc.) and isn't inherently visible to strangers. Even names aren't 100% accurate since there are loads of unisex names, and we're not told the name of every stranger we meet in daily life.
TERFs have to concede that in daily life, we make snap judgments based on someone's figure, face, voice, and dress. And literally none of those have no overlap between men and women, so none of those can be used to determine someone's sex with any measure of accuracy. Yet they're entirely unwilling to accept it and claim to know whether someone is a man or a woman in 100% of situations.

Black women I know often go more into the hyperfeminine side to express their gender, while some I know that tend to prefer more androgyny often get hate or misgendered for it, a lot more than I do even though we wear similar things and have similar physical traits other than skin colour and hair texture. Skin colour does not have a gender, and it's not fair to those who have darker skin to somehow see them as more masculine. Same with a lot of indigenous Canadians (likely those in other parts of the Americas as well). The men traditionally have long hair with little to no facial hair, and tend to be seen as more feminine for it, as well as wearing bright colours and ribbons which the Europeans often saw as too showy. The language spoken in my area before French and English has non gendered pronouns, and there seems to be a lot more diversity in how they think about gender in terms of spirituality as well. All those different and beautiful expressions of humanity get lost in whatever the English deemed socially acceptable (which mirrors my own family rather closely as my English relatives are a lot more strict and usually the ones to try and make me fit gender roles).

Though they truly only support conventionally attractive Blaire and their support stops with her. Anyway, I was SWARMED by her "fans" ironically calling me a transohobe while they went back and forth with each other making pretty vile jokes about my Adam's apple. Which, like, I don't care because there's nothing wrong with being a trans person or having an Adam's apple. But her fans certainly use the term "trans" as an insult and she knowingly gives them a pass to remain hateful towards transgender people who either lack resources to have gender-affirming surgeries/care or have no desire to present themselves within the traditional binary constructs. I just cannot understand the absolute obsession some people have with any other person's gender or identity. Honestly it's quite sad that their world view is so small and rigid. Completely incapable of looking past their own biases and prejudices towards "others" to see their shared humanity. They'll never have any meaningful connections with others because they're too afraid to be vulnerable and look any deeper within themselves. At least imo. For me I was raised in a very cruel chaotic household. My folks would like try to one each other up on who could hurt us worse. Sometimes their parents would stay with us, and they always seemed ok compared to what us kids were put through. I’d hear about other cousins or aunties I’d never be allowed to meet who were trans and getting married or something nice. I brought up I was trans when I was very young, around five, and was beat so badly I didn’t bring it back up until I was 28. The topic would come back up and it would piss our parents off and we’d get punished extra severely for something unrelated.
They now only have one of three kids still in contact with them. All three of us are trans and queer. It sucks, like, it’s just a wad of pain that we gotta deal with knocking around in our heads while we read all these hate comments and lament on all these anti trans laws.

I recently got told by someone how their last experience on this was having a complete stranger in the tram starting to demand that they tell them where they are from. This person is white without any immigrant background in their family as far as they know, and the stranger wasn't satisfied when they simply told them the part of the country where they are from. It's so weird and creepy and disrespectful, because whether it's about gender or race/ethnicity, it comes from a place of negative bias and the audacity of thinking that a literal stranger owes you details about their identity. I love it when people can't even do phenotypes right. Like, the only times you can definitely tell a specific feature is from a particular ancestry is when it's presenting alongside other typical features-- or it's a genetic quirk only a specific population has, like solomon islanders' blond hair (they've got the "traditional" black hair, but with a unique, completely unrelated hair gene mutation to the "usual" blond gene, and it causes a really cool range of colors from very gold blond to awesome copper-brown that can shift as they age).
High cheekbones can be from literally any ancestry and same with olive-toned skin-- meditteranean peeps don't have a monopoly on that shade and you can also have that tone if you're biracial and none of your ancestors even ate some souvlaki or gelato, much less originated from greece or italy.
(sorry I'm big into genetics and gene inheritance and recently did a cool dive specifically into ethnic traits and family resemblance and how traits pass down and what decides how they mix and when they don't for a speculative biology worldbuild)

These people are totally out of control. Their obsession has gone beyond just analyzing the physical features of celebrities to prove they're trans. I've seen some of them take photos of normal people who are just going about their lives and doing this. That could end up being incredibly dangerous if someone is actually trans and isn't out yet. These people are not only delusional, they're malicious. They want to expose trans people by any means necessary and they don't care who they harm in the process. Imo, taking pictures of people without their consent and posting them on the internet for people to analyze should be illegal. It's blatant harrassment and people who do it should be given a fine or jail time.

When I was a kid identifying as a cisgender female, I was still tomboyish. It started as being called a lesbian and gay, then I decided to cut my hair and they called me a boy. They literally threw me out of the girls room, saying no dicks in the girl's room. When I dropped out, I thought it would stop... until people started saying I was actually male at birth and actually a Trans female. It was terrible to go through, because I was unsure if I was supposed to even be a girl? Today I identify as genderfluid (f/nb), and I'm comfortable with who I am today, but that and other bullying I went through my entire life will always haunt me today.

This is a common tactic used by Politicians known as an association fallacy.
"look a tiny group of people (with mental disorders) that oppose our beliefs are clearly insane, that means we are right and the people who oppose use are wrong."
You would do well to recognize false prophets who tell you what you want to hear.

then there were a few posts about people who actually benefited from trans acceptance, while being cis themselves.

Look, if it weren't for make up, body hair removal and clothes, we would find out that men and women look way more similar than we would like to recognize.

He picked Cristina Agularia, Pink, and two AI pictures as the Trans women. He did get one transperson correct but that is because it was me in a dress.
Missed Buck Angel and Dorian Electra, if you know who those people are... pretty funny. How you pick Cristina Aguilera and Pink over Dorian as transpeople... IDK. Dorian is *very* queer and it is _very_ obvious.

I'm a cis woman who also happens to be bi, and I've been repeatedly misgendered online by men. Some even refuse to believe I am a woman. I assume it's because they think my personality is "masculine," or I'm talking too "logically" to possibly be female. It is so bizarre. They believe all women are a certain way (usually meek, overly accommodating of men's needs, naive, illogical, etc). It made me feel something akin to gender dysphoria when these people didnt want to acknowledge my womanhood and misgendered me as a taunt. I was always an ally of trans people, but it made me appreciate their struggle all the more. I can't imagine having your existence and gender identity picked apart by weirdos on a daily basis.

When you tell these "transvestigators" that actually cis women have body hair they practically explode. A lot of women have facial hair on par with the average man's facial hair, and not like, 1%, more like 20%. If it's that large of a group it's not an anomoly, and can you really call something a male characteristic if 20% also have it. The overlap between man and women is so big, and they don't want to believe it.

Those people so desperate to affirm their own gender by trying to "out" people are pathetic and to be pitied, imagine being that insecure.

by the sound of the comments, this is nothing new, but as a cis woman i've had my fair share of transphobes accusing me of being a transwoman, "you'll never be a woman" type thing. i literally think it's because of my broad shoulders and the shape of my chin - it shows how ridiculous these people's delusions of gender are, because i'm far from androgynous.
