- In This video I will show you how by changing your LightBurn Mode can dramatically change the look of your design with very little work. Once you understand how the FILL mode works it easy to change up you designs with very simple steps. I also go over CUTS and what you do to accomplish cutting material.
Thank you for this. As a beginner I searched and searched on 'lightburn tutorials' for this 'starter' information and I could not find anything that unpacked this basic concept well enough. You have explained it so well and the visual aids were excellent. Thank you again.
thank you for your comments!
Now I understand and I've experimented after you video. Many, many thanks.
Glad it helped!
Thanks so much!!! Just got my 51/130 and I would be very lost without your informative videos!
congrats on you new Thunder. that’s great. i appreciate your comments
You are amazing! Thank you so much! I have learned more from your videos than any other previously!
I'm so glad! thanks for watching
Sooo many videos watched to get what you did so clearly. New to lightburn and so grateful! Thank you for this video!
You're very welcome!
I am new to Lightburn and this was the first video that explained in depth line and fill. Thank you so much for an awesome video. I can now complete my project. Thank you!!!!!
You're very welcome!
I just took delivery of my Thunder Nova 35 and will begin with it this week. Your videos are phenomenal for someone just beginning in the new world of lasers...thanks so much!
congrats for the new laser. glad they help. thanks for watching!
Your videos have been a great help and the most awesome and instructive videos on Lightburn I have seen. Thank you very much, I appreciate you sharing your time and knowledge with UA-cam. Absolutely Awesome!!! Thanks again.....
You're very welcome! thank you for your comments
Excellent presentation, I really appreciate you. God bless you
Thank you kindly!
Hello, Im new at this laser world and your video gave me understanding what is line and fill and the rules that apply with it. Very helpful Thank you
thanks for the comments!
Great video and thorough explanation of the settings. Just getting in to lightburn and studying up on the settings.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the comment
Just like in the school, we need to UNDERSTAND how the program works for the laser do what we want to do, thank you very much for the video, im starting in the business and this video help me a lot, thanks again. Greetings from México 🇲🇽
You're very welcome!
Excellent video. It was amazing how the small tweaks to the same designs give such a different look. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! and I appreciate your comments.
Great video with very clear examples - it explained a lot to a newbie like me. Thank you for making it !
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video! I set up my first laser this weekend and was struggling to find instructions on the most basic concepts of LB. This was exactly what I was needing!
Glad it helped! thank you for watching
Thanks!
I really appreciate your tip, and thank you for watching!
Excellent video, helped me better understand the mode opinions. Now that Offset fill is included in the dropdown as an opinion only makes things better.
I bought LightBurn because of all the things you can do with it. Last night I figured out how to do some things on my own and now I just learned more.
It’s great software!
Did you learn the mustard trick to engrave stainless steel? Or the water and baking soda spray to get darker results on wood? There are so many tricks to this trade...
@@OregonDARRYL no, I didn't know about that. What kind of mustard do you use, yellow or brown? I guess another question to ask is, are you using a diode laser or a CO2 laser?
@@krisknowlton5935 Yellow mustard. 15W Ortur Lasermaster 2. ua-cam.com/video/W9n7gOlvy9w/v-deo.html
@@OregonDARRYL thank you for the information. I watched the video and will add it to my repertoire.
I tried something the other day that I've not seen on UA-cam (not that there isn't a video on it). I engraved on the Dollar Tree glass mugs. Simply paint the area you want to engrave with gloss white spray paint and set your speed to 500mm/min or slower and 100% power. Clean with acetone and you will have a black etching that will not come off. It is a good idea to clean the glass with acetone before you paint and then avoid touching where you want to etch. Yea, experience taught me that lesson. Thanks again my friend.
Thanks for posting and clarifying this.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for that lesson! Very valuable for me 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Dziękuję za dokładne wytłumaczenie. Już się nauczyłem czegoś nowego jak grawerować. 🙂😉
Excellent tutorial!! Cannot thank you enough!
You're very welcome!
Great video which has completely demystified this for me. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Thank you for the informative video! Your pace of explaining is spot on, thank you! :-)
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching.
Thank you 🙌Your videos are so helpful
Glad you like them!
I just watched your video. I’m hoping you still respond to it. I just bought the Nova 51/100 laser. I currently do not have the option of fill + line? I do have Fill option and Line option. Can I change something somewhere in settings so I get the option of Fill + Line? Where would that option be? Thank you. I just did a 13 inch logo on birch and have exactly what you describe. Fill only is not crisp at all. Thank you for the informational video and your time.
the fill plus line has changed in lightburn. Lightburn has added sub layers now. the functionality is still there you just access it differently. search sub layer in Lightburn on youtube
@@computercreationz thank you. I did find the multi layer. Appreciate your videos and your quick response!!
This is a great lesson, thank you, you have considered posibilities I have never thought about using the outline. I know there is an option of visualization in lightburn that allows you to see the filled shape when it is filled, just like you see in the preview but in the work screen. I can't remember where I chose it from, some of the adjustment tools, I think that if you have a powerfull computer you can turn it on and it is so much helpful! than having to preview all the time.
Glad it was helpful!
This Video is just what I was looking for! Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
Wow. Very good video. Thanks. All of them are very good
Thanks Kurt, I appreciate the input
@@computercreationz you're welcome. Keep up the good work
Brilliant! Tried working with my new Xtool onthe weekend with limited success. Still trying to get Lightburn to talk to my machine but can't wait to try this.
Glad it helped!
Awesome explanation!
thank you!
Great Video Thank You
Glad you enjoyed it
Very informative and helpful video, well explained. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
OMG...you just saved me hours of work. I'm still so new to Lightburn and I've been trying to select all the different pieces in my design INDIVIDUALLY to fill or line...and then it's filling where it shouldn't be filling. What ever will I do with all my extra time now?? Thanks so much!
Glad I could help!
Excelent video. Ty
Thank you!
Awesome video. Ty!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video !! Great work. Being new to this I am trying to watch every video I can. This one just blew me out of the water!!! Where can I get this ornament design? I'd like to make some for my family with a personalize quote on back something to remember me by years to come
Thank you for the info its hard to find videos on the nova 24 mine comeing in February they say can you do a video with the other heads
congrats on the 24, it’s a great laser. allot of my videos where produced on the Thunder Nova 24.
great video, as a newbe this is very helpful, question - how do you not get the burnt look?
Hi Bob, burnt look as in the edges or top? usually it’s controlled by air flow and power. if it’s the edges your going to slow or using multiple passes, increase your air flow. if it’s on top you using too much air. very little air flow is needed when engraving.
This is very helpful. I'm new to this. If I have an image set to Offset Fill, how do I get the cutter to cut around the engraved image?
make a new layer that is slightly offset and input your cut settings. your image and your cut cannot be on the same layer
It occurs to me that if you mirrored the second fill (the one with the line around it) horizontally then that and the previous one (without the line) would make a nice paper embossing tool.
Great video! This is exactly what I needed. Only issue now is Lightburn locks up and crashes when I use the offset command. Ugh
I’m having the same issue!
Supper helpful thanks so much
Glad it helped!
very helpful info
Glad it was helpful!
Thank You
You're welcome
Thank you That is very helpful
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Great work… 10x
Thanks a lot!
Wish you would have demonstrated how to knockout a letter inside of a fill area. When you hit 11:08 on the video and you demonstrated the offset inward and you created that black fill inside - I was hoping you were going to add a Text inside or a circle that would not be engraved. Still a good video - Ill keep looking at how to knockout a letter inside of a fill area.
If you add a text inside a circle and they are the same layer color you should get what your looking for. Hope this is helpful. In the example at 11:08 if I would have added some text in the middle it would have not been engraved, just like you want.
great video! 1 question, Do you add an offset to design to cut it out?
Yes that’s exactly what I did in this example
This is the exactly question i gona do, thnx!
Question about tasing Leather. I've tried different ways. Wetting the leather, masking the leather, not wetting the leather, covering with wet news paper. I've had best luck with masking and not wetting the leather. When I wet the leather it starts to curl and doesn't lay flat. Like to know your approach. Thanks Great Channel
Hey Joe, unfortunately I don’t do much leather work so I cannot address your question. You might head over to Heartland Makes UA-cam channel, he does allot of leather work and might have tips for you. thanks for watching!
when i use lightburn and apply the line option i end up with a line showing the travel path of the laser between the different text or images i am burning on a sign. like the laser doesnt shut off on the travel path of the laser before turning on the laser for the next letter or image on the cuts/layers list. what am i doing wrong. I use a sainsmart 4030 cnc machine
I’m believe it’s a g code change that you need to change but I don’t deal with those types of lasers so I’m not much help sorry
Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
This is a wonderful design, is it possible to purchase the file from you or do you have a link you would be willing to share? Thank you.
sorry this file is not for sale! thank you for asking
So fill plus line can be used to engrave and then cut without creating another offset?
I guess you could use it that way. It was intended to engrave then score the outline to give you engrave more depth. Thanks for the question and watching
When engraving a tumbler would you use Fill Plus Line?
No just fill, doing vectors (line) is not recommended on a roller rotary
Im try this out on a design Im working on using scrape material before I put on final product. Thanks for the informative video, Ive been watching all your videos and learning so much. One question is there somewhere I can download settings for the library for different material to start adjusting to adapt to my laser like a basic list and basic settings? I have a 100 watt c02 laser would love to be able to find a file and save to lightburn to save time.
usually the laser manufacturer will have one to get you started. I know Thunderlaserusa.com has some on there site specifically for thunder lasers.
Hello
I do like all your video and the time you spend to explain stuffs ..
In LightBurn there is (now) also the Offset Fill ... It's fast and giving some very special effects ... the same effect as concentric design in 3D printing first/last layers
Do you like it or have any recommendations about it ?
I’ve read that that setting is for diode lasers. my laser is a co2 . what type of laser have you tried it on? thanks for your comments!
@@computercreationz correct ...I tested it with my diode A5 20 w ( Atomstack )
Do you use the high stage air or the low stage with file plus line?
low volume air always for engraving.
Coming from cnc programs lightburn is a beautiful piece of art. Lol
I agree!
I am assuming that Lightburn now uses "Offset Fill" instead of Line and Fill as shown in this video, am I correct?
No offset fill is completely different action and has nothing to do with fill plus line. You still have fill plus line it’s in sub layers now
@@computercreationz Thanks for the quick reply. I just investigated adding a sub-layer and still did not see line and fill after creating a sub layer. I assume that there are settings you need to complete in the sub-layer and that the label "line and fill" no longer exists. I am on a mac version. Not sure if that makes a difference.
@@buzzie8 assuming your on a co2 laser there should be. + at the top right hand side of your layer when it open up it first tab will be fill then hit the plus to,add a sub layer and change the mode to line. That’s how you get fill + line
Hi Robert. Great video.. one questions. Were all four of these commands done on high air? thank you
the line work the air assist was off and cutting them out the air assist was on.
Question, if I were to have a name inside the box, how to I engrave all the area around the words?
Be sure the words and surrounding box are all the same layer color and use fill mode.
I just downloaded Lightburn and it doesn't have the line and fill option, just line, fill or offset. Any ideas on where I could find it?
it’s there just illustrated you will notice a little + on the top right hand side when you layer is open you add it there. lots of UA-cam videos on this new feature. it’s actually a good thing lots more flexibility
When i try to use fill on a border like you explained in the video, for some reason it is trying to fill the whole thing in and giving me an estimated time of 10+ hours, do you have any advice to help with this?
make sure your outside border is grouped and the same layer color. or there is an open shape where the square or rectangle is not totally closed. give that a try
Aloha, how do I get the fill + line in my settings. It doesn't show up in the drop down menu. I have a Nova 51-30
they are sub layers now it’s there you just have to add it. start will a fill and look for the plus sign in the upper right hand side of the layer when open. add another tab and change it to fill. look up LightBurn’s video on sub layers. very flexable
Wow
fun stuff!
I don’t have the fill + line on my mode section. How would I add it in there? Thank you!
it’s there it is achieved a different way, UA-cam sub layers in LightBurn it’s a newer feature in LightBurn and much more functional
@@computercreationz thank you! I have been watching all your videos and they are very helpful.
So would one technically be etched and one scored?
you could say they yes
@@computercreationz thank you 💙 Your videos have helped me tremendously!
Is Line+Fill tge same as Offset Fill? Because I don't have Fill+Line in the mode drop down.
line plus fill is still there it’s displayed differently you add tabs and select the mode you want. lots of info on your tube about fill plus line
@@computercreationz Thank you.
So now there's no Line & Fill anymore? Lightburn got rid of it. Is there a way to mimic it?
It’s there you just have to add it, look to the right top part of your layer there is a plus button add tab and set it to line!
yeah that "O" option isn't available for me for some reason, as well as the "Line+Fill" Option. did anything change in the program?
They added sub layers so you just have to hit the + sign to ad a sub layer to add the line in fill plus line. This is much more versatile.
@@computercreationz where is the plus sign? when i clicked it it just zoomed in on my work
@@joshshor3758 open your layer and it’s on the top right hand side. UA-cam lightburn sub layers
@@computercreationz found it thanks, one issue I keep running into is that my laser engraver wont engrave when I use multiple sublayers which strange
I have a image with only text but it is in line mode(hollow) I want to fill (solid letter) how can this be done?
set you layer mode to fill, if that doesn’t work it means you have an open shape. it will only fill text or shapes that the lines are continuous..
@@computercreationz the top right says it's a image, can't change to fill or line
@@mikeledee8786 yes you can only fill a vector not an image. If
You trying to fill an image it’s not possible. Use vectors in lightburn
Thanks for your help
Thanks man !
You bet! Thank you for watching
@@computercreationz Which mode would you suggest for Portraits? btw i've learned a lot from your videos. thank you
Hey when I import an image, the mode will not let me select anything. It just says Image under mode.
Is that OK?
You can either engrave as a picture or use the trace image feature and create a svg vector graphic. But only limited color contrast can be traced.
Got an update on this. Newer versions no longer have that fill + line
It’s still there just a little better in layout. Look at the top right hand side of the layer and you will see a plus sign. Now you can add up to 11 sub tabs. It’s fantastic!
I got lost when you brought the ornament in....how did you get all those layers..C00..C01,,C02..C03...did you do a trace ??
Each layer represents a different mode. You only need one layer to generate this ornament. The different colors represent the 3 different options I show you in the video. Line, fill, fill and adding a line
i dont have fill line where do i find it
Click the little plus sign in the top right corner that will add another tab, then select you mode and settings.
i dont have fill + line mode?
You do! , it’s just accessed differently since Lightbur.n changed the software. Look up sub layers in lightburn. You add a sub layer and change mode to line
There is good information here, it’s just hidden beneath a pile of waffle.
Hey Thanks for the backhanded compliment. Lol
That ball valve on your wall.. Is noy intended for partial use. On or off is it. If you want to regulate.. Get a regulator.
And yes. You can do what you wish :)
Apparently you didn’t see the regulator right below it!
@@computercreationz
It was a quick video section.. So no Apparently i didnt. I was focused on your hand motion.
Dont be offended.
Maybe you can explain why so lazy as to not fully open the ball valve?
I dont plan on sitting here arguing.. Was just trying to share something.
@@turboflush oh I’m not offended, I appreciate your comment. I’ve made lots of mistakes along the way. The reason I’m lazy as you put it is exactly what you mentioned in your first comment. It only takes turning the valve a small amount to get full pressure! Exactly your observation.
There’s a fourth option now
I got a question can I email you ?
sure
