Jack is one of those artists where Anthony can give him a 9 for stepping outside of his comfort zone with an album like Boarding House Reach…but also give him a 9 for returning to his roots. Jack is a wizard.
Using a bait to start a bit and that eventually becoming "by the way, this album kicks ass" is probably the most wholesome thing to come out of the Unreviewable/No Review saga.

Even though I love Jack White’s experimental work, it felt so exciting to hear Jack go back to the styles of The White Stripes with some of his best songwriting yet. It was the first new release I waited in line at a record store to get the day it came out.
I'm so torn on the two sounds. I liked "fear of the dawn" because it seemed to take everything he learned from boarding house reach and blended it with his old stuff. I'd love to see more of that, but this is the perfect time for a "back to basics" record. It will make it even better if he does another album like that.
Man, that whole thing was such a colossal overreaction. The dude made a joke that didn't land right. Sometimes something sounds funny in your head and then sounds fucked up when it comes out of your mouth. Not to mention, lets not pretend here like TONS of other ppl didn't make the same joke; people joke about people (politicians in particular) dying all the fuckin time. Archbishop Harold Holmes is actually by far my favorite track. It's so wacky and weird, there's some fun rhyme schemes in there. It didn't get old or repetitive for me at all. Or at least, that's what I would think... if this album existed, or had a name.
The whole schtick of making a song that sounds like a preacher rambling over some guitar and drums is super played out, and yet Jack found a way to make it fresh. This whole album is such a pleasant surprise, even for someone who loved his last few.
This album was a legitimate 10 for me. Funny enough I was never big on The White Stripes & Haven't heard much of Jack's solo material myself, But this album man...Legit every track absolutely slapped, LOVE his crunchy tones throughout, First album in a while that made me immediately pick up my guitar and start jamming out after listening. Super inspiring. Awesome, Awesome album.

Back in the 00's I was still a teen and was pretty narrow minded, I only listened to heavy metal and anything that wasn't in that lane I totally dismissed. Bro, I’ve done the exact same. I’ve been trying to figure out the intro to old scratch blues for a minute now, watching live footage to figure it out. It got me to pick my guitar back up and get into it but I feel like jack white has always had that impact on me when I listen to his music.
The album steps on the gas from the start and doesn’t let off. Pretty cool that Jack’s daughter Scarlett is credited as the bassist on Archbishop Harold Holmes, too.
Jack is a madman for just casually yeeting this album to us with no hesitation no notice no release theatrics (and no paywall, he told the fans to rip it off the vinyl and throw it on youtube) and it’s one of his best works in his entire career.
No Name is great, I just hope Jack White doesn't feel discouraged from being his fully weird self on future albums. I enjoy it when I can hear him clearly having fun playing around with eclectic ideas, so Boarding House Reach was my favorite album of his, and I enjoyed Fear of the Dawn and parts of Entering Heaven Alive for the same reason. No Name deserves the praise, we got 13 tracks of classic bangers, now let's step back and let Jack White get super weird on the next album.
I get the point you're making, especially because of the acclaim it's getting, but I don't think there's any chance that JACK WHITE would feel discouraged from experimenting. Yes, it's looking to the past quite a bit, but I wouldn't say this is going back to a comfort zone or anything.

This might be my favorite non review ever mad. You made me feel like a fan when I first heard him and didn't have the woyto back him. Such an artist that taps on raw emotion. Nostalgic was one of the many themes that were prevalent and what music will always need. Jack can always deliver that
I heard that it was given away for free when a purchase was made for any other record, in person, at any Third Man record store which means in Nashville, Detroit, or London. Unsure how many of theses are in the wild. It was also, cryptically, recommended to share, so copies appeared online, not least through Third Man themselves. I listened, downloaded, thought it was the proverbial dogs bits and today have managed to buy a flipped vinyl of the original in-store release. Luckily the price was the same as any new vinyl release would be. A decent seller in the spirit of things. However, it will be on general release at some point this month.
