- The fourth mission of the US campaign! Finally.
Mods wise, its the usual Black Sea mix of Kieme's mods for the textures, Waclaw's HQS Sound Mod and Veins effects.
Combat Mission is a game developed by Battlefront.com. One of the most realistic tactical simulations ever made, Combat Mission covers a wide variety of military settings, from World War 2 (Normandy, Market Garden, Sicily, Italy and the Eastern Front) to fictional modern conflicts in Syria (Shock Force) and Ukraine (Black Sea).
You can find out more about Combat Mission by visiting www.battlefront.com and especially the forums.
Conceived and written before the real conflict began in 2014, Combat Mission: Black Sea is a military simulation depicting a fictional 2017 conflict between NATO and Russia in Ukraine. Command American, Ukrainian, or Russian ground forces in the increasingly sophisticated and deadly environment that is modern combined arms warfare.

I really liked the ArmA footage sprinkled in, really nice complement to the regular CM footage
SPOILER ALERT: Hapless died in the last mission, and this video was discovered by looters after US forces reclaimed the area. The crew at VICE films got word of this, and was able to purchase the footage after meeting with the looters. At long last, we've made this film available to the public.
VICE films update: new go-pro footage of what Hapless has spent the last month working on: ua-cam.com/video/VLG_w-Kj2c0/v-deo.html
I'm no Erwin Rommel but I recall playing this and having the initial two Javelin teams set up in the very tall high rise building on the right flank adjacent to the metallurgic plant, from there they have eyes right across the entire battlefield and as long as you give them good anti armour arcs across the open ground on the left flank and carefully pop them up and down they will really thin out the Ivan armour advancing across there to the isolated compound.
I also mined the two gatehouses in centre but abandoned altogether any forward positions and set up back among the buildings with anti armour squads given defilade arcs to intercept any possible vehicle approach routes, I know that obstacles really need to be overwatched to be true obstacles but even an unwatched minefield will 'M'-Kill enemy tanks. I kept my pure infantry well undercover and hidden and popped them up when Ivan boots went past.
I found the T64 and BMP's to be useful at picking off BMP's that made it through my AT screen as they emerged panicked from the maelstrom into open ground.
I used both Bradley Plt's to push through the industrial complex and once that was complete sent the Abrams slowly down the highway.
Finished this battle a few days ago, and now finally got around to watching the video!
I was really worried about this one at the start. With it being a bit different than previous battles (though not quite as foreign as Poking the Bear), and then having to fight through the majority of the thickest combat with very limited forces, using very limited weaponry.. No radios, no air or artillery support? Really limited (and frankly, pretty meh) armor? Near-constant Russian artillery raining down for ~10+ minutes? No problem!
Hand out the RPGs - spread out (but not too much!), keep your head down and hold fire until they enter your kill box! Oh, and pray we survive until reinforcements arrive.
As always, thanks for the great video and I'll cya in the AAR and then the next one!
Why is this game not on steam. Mods missions and more will blow up this game
Just download it from battlefront just as easy
Excellent video as always!
That sure was a fierce battle, the amount of destroyed BMP's was simply staggering.
watched most of your vids, they're the best CM videos around, both for beginners and experienced players.
RIP Abrams platoon, down to a single tank.
A single undamaged one, the pl leader that made it under the overpass caught a glancing blow, lost a lot of stuff stuck to the turret but nothing that can't be fixed. My bad, should have made it clearer :)
This is how you present this game
Great vid. You've made me get back into CM :)
That was awesome. Though it hurt watching those Abrams get hit like that at the end. Very good stuff, was worth the wait.
Yeah, the Abrams isn't immune to cockiness, it seems
Great content as usual.
I cant wait till we get more content for this game.... I want to see the Coalition forces...
There's nothing in the near future unfortunately, but the updated and rejuvenated Combat Mission Shock Force should be out later this year- that's got US, USMC, Brits, Germans, Dutch and Canadians vs Syrian Army and Insurgents (no, its not a fair fight). Totally unrelated to the current conflict, I should mention- the original came out in 2008.
Excellent work
Cheers man!
Love your video amazing work 🙏🏻
Wow, what a map. I haven't seen this one. Shades of Stalingrad's factory district!
Niiiiice. Keep up the good work.
clever boi, using arma 3 footage with the combat mission superimposed into the wall
Watching it now in February 2022 as Russia is invading Ukraine. These videos are terrific, and I especially enjoy your line of "hand signals and harsh language."
I had a very weird thing happen to me playing this mission - the two T90As at the highway objective seemed to be unreasonably difficult to spot. Couldn't see them at a distance with javelins in elevated positions, couldn't see them from the ground (which I thought might be better for seeing under the tree cover). Eventually I had multiple, javelin-equipped small infantry teams less than 100m away from these tanks and even when the tanks started moving around in the open (they were reacting to laser warnings), those tanks could still see me before I could see them - even though I had small teams of infantry lying down in woodland and they were tanks in open ground. The only way I was able to take them out in the end was to have Abrams approach from two different directions and my infantry approach from a third direction - and ended up losing a lot of infantry in the process. It was very bizarre! I'm not sure what the explanation is - if it was a bug or some kind of factor I wasn't taking into account, but I can't figure it out.
this channel is so fucking great.
As someone who just bought CMFI (yay first game ) i gotta ask :) Is the whole *Sniper scope view* thing that you're using in this video and one of the other intros (Second video i think) A feature that i can access while messing around in my own single player bits or is that a mod/editing trick?
Its not an ingame feature I'm afraid- I added it in with the editing. It wouldn't be very useful if it was a game feature.
@@usuallyhapless9481 Fair enough thanks for the info .dunno i always like those little hidden ish features myself but i get what you're saying as i can just as easily scroll down to see what's blocking LOS and such. Thanks for the reply on a year old video by the way.
This might become headline news we shall see.
Love your work! A request if I may... Could you do a rough overview on how to make these videos please for those with warm feet...
People keep asking me, so it's on the cards ;)
fun mission, very different to the previous missions in the campaign. not gonna lie though damn its frustrating dealing with the Ukrainian troops going rogue.
English is not may native, 5:23 "pixel trippin" or something like that what does it mean? I know it's about infantry, but I don't understand meaning.
Playing Shock Force I never put firing teams in upper floors. Only observation units, or support/second line squads can occupy high floors. Top position increase sight, but every one in your sight got vision on you ;]
Do you consider to deploy, BMP parallel to fence, so they can flank every one that try to entry? In case of destroying the fence you will back it deeper between buildings.
Very nice edited video.
It's a nickname he gives for infantry it's not a real English word.
"pixeltruppen" as in "pixel" + german word "truppen" (english "troops")... 'Pixel troops'
bro please bring combat mission shock force campaign marines or brits or nato thx
I have played CM since vs 1. Currently own Fortress Italy vs 3. I have to ask what the heck happened to the graphics in Black Sea. They look like something out of the mid 90's and are considerably inferior to those in Fortress Italy. Is this a real step back or a result of mods? I ask because I was considering purchasing Black Sea until I saw the quality of the graphics.
IMO, the graphics quality is getting better as time goes on- CMFB is looking very good these days. I get where you're coming from though- I think here either the shadows are off or so faint you can't see them and that I may have dialed back the quality to get a reasonable frame rate- its a big mission.
These guys stuck in 90s in graphics. They just care to charge some money from you by making new versions of CM with nothing new. Just have a look at their ^^new engine CM Shock force 2^^ lol and you will find totally same everything, including same old tetris graphics
@@DoctrZhivago Maybe so, but under the hood the CM series are the best combat simulators around. If all you want is pretty graphics, go play Battlefield 5 or something.
Why is the combat occurring as a cinematic?
The magic of editing
Do you have a video of you winning as the Ukrainian in "Ambush"? I could use some help! Best I can do is a draw after like 10 times. Great video!
I don't unfortunately- I've got the turns from a draw as the Ukrainians but its from an earlier version of CMBS, so its a bit screwy. What I did though was move the convoy up to the hill beside the ford, then send the reinforcements across the river on the edge of the map (the BMPs are amphibious), use them to roll up the Russian teams on the opposite bank before suppressing the town with everything so the trucks can cross at the ford. Then its a simple bum rush for the exit objective.
The trick is doing it all in time!
Thanks! I am going to give that a try! Completely forgot that the BMPs are amphibious. I can usually get through the town so my next plan was to have the helos bomb the exit area the whole scenario and then cease fire so I can rush through at the end. Thanks again!
Well, I did better and I was able to get 3 out of 4 trucks off the map but somehow the Russians got 525 points for my trucks somehow. More frustrating than interesting/fun at this point. Thanks for the help though, it should have worked.
Nice AAR, as usual. How would you have fared if you played by "house rules" like not ordering an unit to act on a contact until it's aware of it itself? I'm having a difficulty grasping how much the EW setting affects your troops apart from denying support.
This aged strangely
Can you posses soldiers really?
The Russians would blast the buildings with tanks and lay down smoke and flares to cross the street.
Its not on phone :c
