The Mystery Of The Somnus Blade (Ft. Baldermort) - 40K Theories
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2021
- The Somnus Blade, a sword bestowed to Tanau Aleya by none other than Roboute Guilliman himself, was said to have once belonged to a great heroine of the Sisters of Silence. But just who could have been the original wielder of this weapon?

I could be captivated by baldamort reading a instruction manual for a 1967 sears deluxe toaster oven.
The 1967 sears toaster oven? Oh my god, you're only talking about THE most interesting toaster oven ever designed. No baldermort needed my friend, knock yourself out my friend, its an absolutely captivating tome
@@Anthonythomas_19 found the tech priest
@@insertedgynamehere nope, I don't play those toaster loving mecha-hentai cog botherers. What I do enjoy though, is a bit of sarcasmn

My personal theory is that the Somnus Blade has belonged to someone outside of the Sisters of Silence.
Reason: If the blade was a revered artefact of the sisterhood, then surely any sister would be familiar with its history. Therefore it is strange that Tanau Aleya is completely unfamiliar with the sword prior to receiving it.
From the swords mentioned in this video, I find the sword of Kendall to be the most likely candidate as it has a link to the Sisters of Silence and it was also brought out of their organization when Kendall became a founding member of the Inquisition.
I do however believe that it is possible to find many other likely candidates by broadening the search to other organizations within the Empire. Sadly, such a search may be impossible within a lifetime as there are many famous warriors in Imperial history that were armed with swords.
But, having been born and raised in a secluded, isolated conclave of the Sisterhood on the outer edge of the galaxy, Aleya had no way of being educated or informed of anything Sister related from elsewhere since the original dissolution when the Sisterhood was forced to fracture partaking on a great exodus out into the galaxy. If the blade came to fame or was found to be of reverence after the exodus, Aleya would know nothing of it or it's significance. Aleya stated herself, once reunited with other Sisters at the Somnus Citadel, all the Sisters seemed strange to each other having notably different armors, rites, lore, and customs. This is due to the different isolated conclaves so many of the present Sisters came from.
It's just as likely that the Somnus Blade is Garro's sword reforged
My thoughts on the matter:
1. The blade could have been the weapon of the most famous Sister to hold the rank of Nemesis Praxia, Ebon Naroda. Naroda, being the Nemesis Praxia and thus responsible as the high keeper of Sister lore, Sister estates, and leader responsible for all Sister training, ultimately was the "landlord" of Somnus Citadel. The Knight-Commander may be the overal leader of the Sisterhood, but the Nemesis Praxia was responsible for overseeing all installations belonging to the Sisterhood. During the Great Crusade, this title was held by Naroda and no Sister was more highly respected at the time. Naroda having a blade named for the most important Citadel and home of the Sisterhood seems more than plausible. Possessing her blade would be seen as one of the greatest honors possible for a Sister. Also, seeing as Guilliman tasked Aleya with discovering the history of the Somnus Citadel and the truth beside the original dissolution of the Sisterhood, it would seem fitting for Guilliman to bestow the blade of the most revered Nemesis Praxia(high lore keeper) on Aleya herself.
2.The blade could have belonged to Sister-Senior Gresselda Vym, a senior Witchseeker(same rank as Aleya) and master of the Blackship named Somnus. Vym being the master of a ship named Somnus could logically have a blade named for her ship denoting her as Captain and Master. The Blackship, Somnus, was shot down by the Alpha Legion during the Great Crusade leaving Vym lost to the Void. The whereabouts of Vym and her revered wargear are unknown from that point in time, but it is plausible that with the power of being a Primarch and Lord Regent, Guilliman had Vym's blade found or possibly took possession of it from whoever may have found it after Vym's demise.
What do you think?
Lol!
Uncle baldy kicking heresy with his sweet sexy emperor holy voice on this channel yet again
Go back to your hotel
Lord Balders does us honours by the lending of his talents to the telling of this magnificent tale!
Ave Imperator, in exelcis Terra!
Baldermort has a fantastic voice! This was awesome
You know, I was kinda expecting Baldermort to say "End Quote!" at the end of this.
Crossover of champions, Baldermort’s voice with a 40k Theories Script. Divine!
Hope you and 40k Theories will also collab at some point.
@@johnd3421 Oh definitely, I would have to pinch myself though as I have been watching this channel for years. Would seem kind of surreal.
The new Custodes books from Chris Wraight are a gem and something I never knew I needed till I read them. The Custodes where always cool in the lore but Chris managed to nail them and give them such character as well as the Silent Sisters.
Awwww yeah, another Baldy colab. Fuck yeah baby! And I'm actually up to see it on time. Happy days, happy days.
Love ya both, Lore Masters. Keep being fucking awesome both of ya.
Holy shit, I thought it was an official trailer!!! That VOICE!
Our Faithful Servant Baldermort does have an amazing voice and the joy of the emperor fills me when I hear it
Listen to his night lords video, the man is obscenely talented.
Those are the dulcet tones of Baldemort, or Uncle Baldy. Look him up, then pour honey into your ears straight from the 41st millenium.
Watchers of the Throne series made me regret not starting a Custodes army.
The series actually motivated me to build a small Custodes force. I use them in my head canon to protect Guiliman like the Secret Service. A large Honor Guard really.
I'm a huge fan of the Watchers of the throne books😀
One of the best series to come out in years. Written so well.
Aw yeah, uncle Baldenor narrating is always a blessing
Roboute Guilliman: "I need a weapon for a normie. Well, Silent Sister. Something with history and antique looking. Try to hold off on the ridiculousness of the blade, please. Know any REAL experts?"
Uriel Ventris: "I know a chapter. Met one of these guys on a bad trip in the Eye ... bring in the Astropath, and somebody who knows a secure location where we can't get robbed. Extra points if it's got plenty of stuff that can be stolen and that's not a worry for us; call it a down payment or distraction."
RG: "Uh, who would dare rob ME?"
UV: "Astropath, call up the Blood Ravens chapter. Dial 8-6 for the Librarians' Vault. Primarch, these Thieving Magpies get anything and everything."
RG: "And who may I ask is the Blood Ravens' primarch?"
UV: "Oooh. Yeah. That's ... complicated. We got time for 40K Theories shows for the trip. Maybe they'll have that Baldermort guy narrating."
Jesus, how have I only just heard this guy? His voice is made for narration and 40K especially. Consider that subscribe button on his channel pressed.
Welcome! Now go enjoy uncle baldys awesomeness.
Uncle Baldy showing how its done, and giving us a real treat, thank you guys, you gave us a good one today
Always a pleasure to see 40k theories upload
So rare to hear of the Sisters of Silence, I'm in bliss.
AH, Brother Baldemort.
Wise decision doing a colab with such an esteemed brother.
From looks alone the first sword that it resembled to me was Libertas which Nathaniel Garro welded. I know Liberatas was more of a broad … maybe long sword style of the old world but for it to fit an astartes it will be quite big any way.
An interesting idea
Long Way from home Baldy. Good to see you getting around. Thank you keep up the good work
I was going to listen anyway but it is very nice to also run into a bonus familiar voice. "Unite the Clans!"
Glad to see fellow 40k lore tubers collaborating hope this becomes more common in the community in this time of strife we must all stand together
Aw yiss a Baldermort collab
Incredible narration by the legendary Baldermort. On the same level as Toby Longworth and Jonathan Keeble.
QUICKLY BROTHERS! LIKE BOMBARDMENT UPON THE EMENY POSITION!
Baldamort's voice reminds me of some of the voice actors in the classic game "Baldurs Gate". Adds to the ambience.
Oh shit. Baldy boi is back! You have no idea how much I love when you have guest voices. Baldermort most of all!
Such grim dark timbre... your voice is the vocal embodiment of 40k
I love the work that this channel does with other youtube 40k content creators. They're always so fun!
I was about to say..did i.click on "greatest voice of all 40k lore masters" video? Then. I realize...allright a great Collab
imagine if guilimen just picked a random sword out of the armery and just had a random name engraved on it and she had just saved him the trouble of making up some glorious hystory for it
A surprise guest host of Uncle Baldy on a Monday morning. Couldn't be a better surprise!
Very happy to hear the voice of Lord Baldermort!
I felt touch by the emperor trought the voice of this amazing dude.
That is Baldemort. Check out his channel.
@@shahman76 thanks for the advice, would do.
And since Baldie couldn’t say it, I will... Do make time today for FUN!
That voice is heavenly! And I love these snippets of lesser known artifacts and moments.
Baldemirt: your voice belongs in the Warhammer 40k universe in ways I can't explain...
I am LOVING these collaborations! Please keep it up!
Cheers, this was a great video! I'm always there for more lore and I'm always there for the gift that is Baldermort's narration!
Baldemort & 40k Theories? Oh yeeeessssss!
Great to see Baldermort here
Ordo Notificus Present! We Will Provide The LIKES!
Man how I love these theories, sounds like I'm listening to history lectures.well done.
To be amongst the honours first
To be amongst the honored hundreds!
Keep in mind that, among sword aficionados, "the sword" is the blade, usually exclusive of the furniture such as hilt, scabbard, et alia. The size of the eagle / Aquila which is part of the hilt, therefore, is largely irrelevant. A sword which is recovered from the battlefield may be polished and re-furbished, given new furniture -- again, the hilt, the scabbard, etc.
Took me way too long to realizes this was Theories and not Balder. Quality content the same.
Baldermort is how I imagine Malcador’s voice.
Not gonna lie -> I hear Baldermort, I press "like" :)
And a fantastic lore pair you make!
Since we do not know what happened to Garro and Loken the Somnos blade could be the reforged form of either Libertas or Mourn-it-all.
I would really like the idea of such weapons still existing in the 42nd millenium.
Garro, maybe?
Not sure how feasible it is, but I like the idea.
I mean, Garro needs more recognition in modern 40k. He was an utter badass.
Thanks for the guest narrator.
Mort's voice is so mesmerising
Oh daym when the cross over 🔥🔥🔥
The true mystery of the Somnus blade is why is it weaker than the base SoS great blades. Aleya is literally the weakest SoS unit with her only unique special rule of her being a character and coming in with valerian.
They did my girl dirty
Probably the same reason Garran Crowe was kind of weak for a time, despite having a reality warping daemon sword lol
In the novels, it was noted that Aleya's "Pariah Field" was so much stronger than that of most Sisters that she was rarely even seen or noticed by most humans even when standing next to them. She was described as seeming to appear as a transparent blur or viewing something almost invisible through what would seem to be rising heat vapors...like viewing the horizon through the heat rising off the asphalt of a desert road...a total distortion of the scenery behind her.
This means no matter what weapon she fields, she should be one of the strongest "mortal" characters on the tabletop, but...GW shenanigans says no.
@@knowplay3258I believe your talking about Jenetia Krole, The oblivion queen, there not aleya. Though the invisible thing is apparently something all alpha plus pariahs could do
Featuring Baldermort and his EPIC VOICE.
Loved it all!!!
Cheers!
Somehow, it just doesn’t feel the same without the, “End Quote”! 😊✌🏼
How did a Silent Sister stop RG from continuing his speech? Did she break her oath or something?
Sign language
Loved this awesome Baldermort Crossover, fantastic episode!
You two together are an amazing duo brothers
*The Holy God Emperor of Mankind* loves you and he says don't forget to have FFFFFun!
that last guess seems good somnus means sleep quite fitting for a blade whos og owner died from exhaustion defending the thrown
Our Faithful Servant, my thanks to you as always
Well done i really liked the VO
Yey, uncle Baldemort is here!
Reimleiz AND Baldermort? I am very lucky today!
Honestly, I am just waiting for Valerian and Aleya to become official lol.
P.S. Also Aleya is tsundere bae
Well they have models that you can buy, so doesn't get much more official than that :P
www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Talons-Of-The-Emperor-Valerian-And-Aleya-2020
@@40KTheories I mean official in a relationship haha. Hopefully in the third book of the Watchers of the Throne we can see it.
You must be a weeb since you ship characters
It ain't only weebs who ship characters though lol. Still I really love the dynamic between the two characters. They have fun chemistry despite Aleya being silent.
The chemistry between the two was something I wish had further pursued. Also, remember that Valerian is the only living being to have Aleya speak(sort of) in the many years since taking her vow.
Edit: Aleya cried out in rage and frustration in the moments before what she thought was going to be her death and failure to the Emperor aboard the Heartspite.Valerian was the only remaining, living person to have possibly heard her, but he has since made no mention of it. For those that weren't aware.
man we need more videos narrated by him, consider me enthralled
lol
So, this is where Baldemort is hiding out at…
Great video and voice over
Anything that has brother Baldermort in it gets and auto like from me, the man is a true treasure of the internet!
I just love how the lore can't decide whether custodes are unstoppable, priceless, irreplaceable demi-gods or if a stiff breeze can knock them out...
What in the Realm of Chaos is that hateful-looking slug at 0:50?!
Skull Cannon of Khorne
Yay Baldemort!
Sir Balders - what a pleasant surprise
As wonderful as ever.
1:29 I like the mustache helmet the guy bottom left has.
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn !!!! by the emperor, this man voice ... it gives me holy heretical chills
One day I hope to see you both Collab with grimdark narrator. Guys far too slept on considering his content
Maybe the sword belonged to any of the myriad of the loyalist heroes who was not yet described in the lore :O
Hell yea, I love me some YT collabs!
i fancy to think that its Sanguinius's sword.
thats why its such a big deal. like no offense to any one mentioned here. they are big names. but like the next level is a Primarch. a space marine using a primarch weapon would be unheard. a sister of silence using Sanguinius's blade would be unheard and the sort of thing youd want to keep silent, if you were a sister of silence. Robotop would likely feel pretty appreciative that some one had just given their life to save Terra, she just got lucky and survived.
could be any ones sword, but i think its Sanguinius's.
YEY BALDAMORT, the man the myth, the Chapter Master Stuck in the Black Library!
If it wasn't already hard enough to trace, it's worth noting that it's quite easy to re-hilt a sword. Once you un-peen the tang, the pommel, wrapping and crossguard just slide off.
Excellent narration as usual!
The blade itself is a mystery thats enough to makes me chill to my spine
Is it wrong that I think that Baldermort`s voice would fit Malcador the Sigilite spot on?
Now this is a treat .
Great video, thanks for the publication sir
"Ennnnd quote!"
Somnus is the Greek personification of sleep. Perhaps the owner has some link to sleeping…perhaps sleeping for millennia…
Wait wait wait. Eight primary Warp routes? There are eight directions one can go out from Terra? Like the Star of Chaos?
Gather around kids! Papa Baldy is hear to tell you about the war!
Each of these blades contains data port link under the wrappings of the hilt, you will be the captain-general command codes to find out its data,
Nothing says falling asleep like Baldemort
Long Way from home Baldy. Thank you
I don’t think Baldy is pronouncing Cicatrix correctly... but I Do love that he keeps calling Chaos a sissy so I’m all for it
