Lothar Hex: The Daemon Assassin - 40K Theories
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- The Underhive gunslinger known as Lothar Hex is famed, and feared throughout Necromunda for his constantly shifting facial features, with his very flesh and bones liquefying and reforming into new and monstrous forms. But just how is Hex able to perform such a terrifying feat?
This is an updated and remastered video, correcting a few minor and major errors as well as adding additional information.

*UPDATE* : With the release of House of Shadow, it's possible that Lothar Hex could be a former Faceless of House Delaque, or at least had access to their drugs/surgical equipment etc
You please tell me what the background music is called I'm very interested thank you
Gotta say, that face in the Thumbnail Hex has is literally the Grimdark 40k version of the Trollface.
I immediately went to the comments looking for this comment to see if anyone else saw it as well😂

"Lothar Hex" sounds like the DC Comics cowboy antihero Jonah Hex. He had half of his face scarred by a red heated tomahawk.
I believe he might be based off of jonah, at least sort of.
@@r.cdahuman7682 Considering the amount of 40k characters based on both real life figures and other fictional characters, yeah, it's probably a chaos-possesed version of Jonah Hex
@@therasslintheatre2960 I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Never forget that Necromunda has a version of Santa Claus.
And Red Dead Redemption online I always got shot by a guy that look like Jonah Hex and he threw a tomahawk at my face.

Ah, Lothar Hex...
He will always be the Lorax to me.

14:57 FYI; the rulebook also states that weapon weight represents an Unloaded weapon and that "In General" a loaded magazine for a weapon is 25% of the empty weight. So instead of 7 kg a Loaded Bolter is 8.75 kg or slightly under 19 and 1/3rd pounds.
Thank you for that additional clarification ^^
+@@40KTheories+ Well it's right there in the rule book; all I did was point it out.

@@____________838 Ah, is that what it is? I've only seen the Necromonda title, never realised it had a logo to go with it.
@@Kameth Yep. It’s used on a lot of the branding. I think it’s even on some of the basing or scenery that’s been released lately.

Early early EARLS! I am tired of seeing it
I woke up early and made a coffee for you
Earl Grey anyone? Early grey.
If this was any other universe, I'd just say "his last name is Hex. He can morph his face, or at least present it as though he is. He can dual wield these guns which would break the arms of even the strongest humans alive today. He's a daemon". But its 40k so I can't. Which is the great thing about 40k. Their is just so much content, you can't just say " he has a weird face! And can shoot bolters! He's a daemon!" He could be any number of things. That's what makes 40k awesome.
I know in marvel and other comics illusions and drug use to do so are common for some villans, such as scarecrow. Scarecrow looks like a demon but relly is a sick nerd.
Why does some of these images of Hex remind me of Fred from Courage the Cowardly Dog? Especially with that grin.

Hex looks like he does a little trolling
Callidus Assassin: Finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!
old ass joke
Lothar and Callidus both arrive at their agreed duel, stab a random passerby assuming them to be the other, then both separately leave thinking they alone have won.
@@jackbloomer1334 He is a Redditor that comments overused Jokes what do you expect?
Seeing the picture at 1:57 first thing that springs to mind seeing the fear of the hive gangers encouraged Lothar Hex to be quite ... Naughty..
15:41 If Lothar Hex is indeed possessed by a daemon, then he would undoubtable become a target for the redemptionists. This could have been the daemon's plan all along.
The thumbnail alone was unsettling. And this is coming from a Night Lords fan.
Lothar do be doing a little trolling.
Just put Lothar Hex in a room with a blank.
That will eliminate most of the hypotheses in this video.
Or, it being Necromunda, it doesn't prove jack shit, and he's completely unaffected.
And yes, I know how blanks work. But GW basically uses Necromunda as a place to put everything too stupid/insane/meme-worthy for the wider galaxy not under the term Ork.
My money is on demonic possession. That phrase: The darkness inside you all is reminiscent of a quote that a demon said to someone (forget who) when he inquired about the nature of said demon.
Damn it, I was just about to go to sleep.
Then again, this is one of the few things that I actually don't mind keeping me up. So thank you for the video lore master.
But also *wHy*.
Uncle Lothar wants you!!
Also can I point out the fact that he is called the Widowmaker, might mean that he had stumbled upon a shard of Khaine. Khaines Sword, which has only been wielded by Phoenix King Aenarion, on Mallus was called the Widowmaker, and a shard of Khaine might react well to being referred to by such a moniker.
Ok Remliez, You’re the Tech Priest in Angels of Death.. tell the truth. You are serving on the Blood Angels Battle barge. Because if you’re not, some one stole your voice box.
I'd blame the magpies but that's the wrong blood and feathers related chapter.
"so.. is he a daemon assassin? Or does he assassinate daemons?"
yes. lol
Sweet, glad you updated this one.
I think it's botched polymorphine. Maybe Hex or his patron tried to get their hands on polymorphine for an assassination, but because it's very hard to get they found a provider who made bootleg drug, with crude primitive methods, which is kind of works like polymorphine but isn't controllable and has extreme side effects.
Next it could be one of two things, either mission goes horribly wrong and Hex succumbs to the drug, it's effect never really passing, and is cursed and drawn mad by this disability, or the mission goes spectacularly bloody, instead of infiltration Lothar just murders everybody with terrifying shifting mask on his face, so his patron decides to keep the Hex supplied with botched polymorphine, eventually driving him mad with addiction.
Or it's a harlequin mask and come 6pm he just hangs it in his locker, catches a gravbus and goes back to his family in middle class dwelling in the upper hive, has tea with scones and makes little things from straw
One more theory: what if Lothar and his boss also do same shady business for the Inquisition and payment is blind eye and drug. The Necromunda is just too close to Terra to Inquisition turn blind eye on some individual as him.
I think hex needs to be taught a lesson by the Assasin Temples.
I now need a book thats basically a game of cat and mouse between Hex and one of assassin temples, set in the underhive. That would have the potential to be *awesome.* Hex would have a *massive* homefield advantage, but the assassin would have the advantage of resources.
@@r.cdahuman7682 hex kills an eversor it proceeds to blow the fuck up in a nuclear sized explosion.
40K theories: Lothar hex could be a mutant, possed by a demon, controls demons, uses drugs that can make you into a gene-stealer, a psyker, augmented by cybernetic implants... what do you think?
Lothar Hex: YES.
Or GW was reading Jonah Hex and thought it would be a cool character to steal.
Lothat Hex: Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun
Groovy.
What I think- another awesome addition to the library.
Or he uses subtle hallucinogen gas projectors and wears filter plugs. A bit like Scarecrow form DC
Jim Carrey in the 40K Universe?
How can that be so wrong and right at the same time?

A constantly mutating face? Sounds like a blessing of Tzeentch to me.🤷♂️
I'm thinking he could be wearing something akin to a holofield.
If he were a biomancer that’s also an explanation for his strength
9:55
It does sound like instead of a telepath, he could be a biomancer, and able to change or enhance his features.
This would explain the facial shifting and extra strength required to dual wield bolters, without requiring Daemonic possession.
9:55 ^^
@@40KTheories so, funny story. I was listening, instead of watching. Kinda missed the text there.
Lothar Hex uses Godwyn Deaz pattern bolters. These are the small bolters that the Sisters of battle use, so this means that his dual wielding of bolters is easier than you state as you assume he uses Godwyn pattern bolters (astartes bolters)
And the bolters that Hex uses will still weigh about 7kg each *without* any ammunition, as this weight is that of standard _baseline human-scaled_ bolters from the Dark Heresy (2nd edition) core rulebook.
An Astartes pattern bolter (according to the Deathwatch core rulebook) weighs *18kg* or just under *40lbs*
7kg/15.5lbs in each hand (while obviously much lighter than an Astartes pattern bolter) is still heavy as far as ranged weaponry is concerned, and bolters are not exactly small weapons in either case since they are built more akin to rifles than pistols in regards to their proportions. (For a comparison to modern weapons, a modern day M16 weighs somewhere between 3 and 3.5kgs)
Also, I never assumed that he uses Astartes pattern bolters, since I clearly state in the video how the weight of the weapons is *specifically* in regards to, and I quote, "bolters scaled for the average, baseline human."
@@40KTheories sorry I didn't quite get that as the "bolters scaled for the average baseline human" rings no bells in me as I am only familiar with Godwyn Deaz pattern. Another thing that cause me to comment this and that put me off was the artwork as the artwork showed bolters depicted that were not scaled for the average baseline human. Thanks for the detailed reply tho!!!
The phrase we all dread "What do you think?" Signifying the vid is over 😔
Now I wanna make some Lothar Hex art!
Remember kids, the emperor says no to drugs.
Everyone’s favorite member of the edge gang.
Can't see a daemon being willing to be, essentially, an employee.
Considering Daemons can be enslaved if one has the right spells and artefacts, he may not have a choice in the matter.
Lothar Hex: We do a little trolling.
Is there enough material to make a Sly Marbo theory video? I just finished the Shield of the Emperor Omnibus and want to know more about him, I knew he's an easter egg of Rambo, but I was intrigued reading that he actually interacted with the Catachan, to an extent. I thought he was just a fun addition, and not actually in the books before I finished Death World.
I can try and look into something for him :)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
In Warhammer 40K, is there anything can can manipulate time? For example, you use a giant chronomorphic clock to rewind the time of a planet to “restore” it to a previous era? Or eliminating an army by unaging it out of existence?
There's also an example, shown in Storm of Iron. Larana Utorian, who was Kroeger's armor washing slave, became possessed by the daemon inside his armor... she had swollen in size as like an astartes, eventually killing Kroeger.
That is honestly some of the derpiest art I’ve seen come out of 40k...
I'd like to apologize to the dark eldar for calling them the edgiest.
Seems like he'd be the main character for the game
I think the psyker or wyrd theory would be better explained with Biomancy for sure. Constant face alteration powers and improved strength seem to fit this discipline well.
9:55
IDK why, but this video didn't appear in my Sub feed until just now, 12+ hours after it released.
UA-cam's been doing that a lot as of late :(
Could you do a theory around the perpetuals?. seems they were around alot in the great crusade and horus heresy but I've not seen anything about them in 40k stories.
There's a Perpetual (misidentified as a Living Saint) in Atlas Infernal, if you're interested :)
@@40KTheories oh not heard of that one before
@@40KTheories i was reading saturnine and with not spoiling anything i just wanna know where they all when :)
It's a good story, so worth checking out. The ebook on Black Library is fairly cheap since it's somewhat of an older book.
I'll cover the stuff regarding the fate of Erda etc once the Siege... series has ended, just in case.
Necromunda used to be a high-tech world before the imperium arrived so maybe some sort of masque was there and survived the devestation, eventually falling into Lothar's hands.
"When the ganger is sus!"
-Lothar Hex
Cease this madness
4:29 - If it's good enough for the Callidus Assassins... | 6:34 - Let's hope that the Ecclesiarchy doesn't find out about him, then...yeah, the food is basically recycled s###. | 8:08 - It's a miracle that he was taken by one of the Black Ships. | 10:00 - Let's hope that the Inquisition don't find out about him. | 11:44 - That's a piece of work, even by Imperial noble standards.
I got it! Sentient cyber-dong mutant demon hybrid!
i like the ever-present butt rock in the background of this video. 40k just isnt 40k without it
another bullet point worth mentioning: there's that one horus heresy book about a daemonic-possessed assassin trying to get the Emperor's blood from a rogue trader's book. he could transform himself into the people he'd killed, but if i remember correctly, he underwent years of training to use the daemon-skin properly. if Hex didnt have the training, but somehow bonded with daemon-skin the same way, it would probably shift around endlessly, never holding one form. of course, thats pure speculation.
A Mask of some kind makes the most logistical sense and it would not be impossible to get a Harlequin Mask.
But being WH40K, It is more likely some kind of extreme X-men style Mutant, a Daemon, or he is a Mutate (comic book jargon for a person who gets mutated later in life, like most superheroes)
Lothar Hex vs Cypher.....
Please discuss :)
That's not my Lothar Hex... the one I know Is decidely more spiny. And wears a nice hat.
God, I still miss that webcomic. It 's sad the authors no longer work on it, but understandable.
9:28. Jaaaaackiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee....... Through you i am born.
Don’t the various houses of the under-hive also utilize Xenos derived tech in the armor of Spire Hunters? I remember you talking about them in your techno-heretics video. Doesn’t seem that hard an accomplishment to obtain a shapeshifting mask with all the Xenos tech flowing around the place already.
Or what about something even more mundane? Like if Lothar dispersed and utilized chemical hallucinogens like Scarecrow from the Batman series?
The armour of the Spyrers is given to the children of the ruling, noble houses as opposed to the clan houses of the mid and underhives. Given that the name of the hunting rigs are similar to words in the t'au lexicon (Jakara suits having mirror shields and jhikara meaning mirror in T'au for example) its more likely they'd be made from t'au tech specifically. As far as I know, the T'au don't have any shape shifting masks or helmets, but it's not impossible for something like that to somehow appear on the black market.
sooo not the bastard offspring of Jonah Hex and Anduin Lothar?
See, whenever someone mentions the name Anduin, I immediately think of WoW/Hearthstone.
@@40KTheories who indeed was named after anduin lothar because his father thought he was cool
Seb//Zeb? Looks like a thundah warrior...
Van Zep.
And yeah, there's no official art of the character, so we used a Goliath boss to represent him visually.
A pair of bolters............? You mean bolt pistols right? Those have enough kick lol
EDID: oh shit nvm
If you take into account the fact that you missed archeotech off the list and focused on the daemon theory, you would probably have a better answer.
