  • Title: Sakura Café or Cherry Blossom Café
    Brand: Dolphin Island
    Began: 3/29/24
    Completed: 3/29/24
Sakura Café by Dolphin Island was a fun build. I loved the details and craftsmanship that was present at nearly every level. The pieces fit seamlessly, and no glue was needed that I recall. (It’s been a couple of months and a couple of surgeries since I completed this build, so forgive me if my memory has a few holes in it.)
As I’m going back through my photos and catching up on making nooking videos, many things about the build are refreshed in my memory. I remember being impressed with the finesse that was apparent with this product. So much so that I searched Amazon for other nooks made by Dolphin Island.
On a side note, I may have to branch out on my shopping sources; I know Amazon isn’t the only place to find nooks. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d welcome them. Of course, I probably need to finish my queue before buying any more. Some might say I’ve become addicted to them, or obsessed. I disagree with the obsession; I am quite capable of thinking about other things and frequently spend a great deal of time engaging in activities that have nothing to do with nooking. Things like … work. My hobby has not infringed upon my work life at all. I don’t have time for that, lol. If they’re an addiction, I can think of worse things I could have an addiction to. For me, nooking is simply fun. When it stops being fun, I’ll stop. It engages multiple parts of me: the creative side that loves to craft and fashion things that are both functional and beautiful, the logical side that thrives on connecting parts to a whole to form a working system, the orderly part (do NOT look in my bathroom cabinets right now - it’s not a true reflection of that part of me!) that finds joy in putting things where they belong, and the detailed part that gets lost in the intricacies of how everything fits together. How could I not jump in with both hands to a hobby that clicks with so many facets that make up who I am?
Back on topic: I remember smiling a lot with this build and joking around with my mom about the café patron with no socks and the barista with no facial features. It seemed odd that with all the attention to detail they paid in other portions of the nook, that they’d leave those portions out. I know some people don’t wear socks with their shoes, but unless they’re wearing sandals or flip flops, closed in shoes with no socks lead to stinky feet. I’ve also never seen a barista, or anyone for that matter, without a face. Was I supposed to draw my own on? I mean I can draw a smiley face as well as anyone else I suppose, but that would really ruin the aesthetic of the piece. I know it’s not real life and there’s a certain willing suspension of disbelief you have to employ when you look at a nook and imagine the little world coming to life. I mean, seriously, those rooms are small and so crowded that NO ONE could ever walk around or access some of the key features of the builds. So, I decided to have some fun with it instead. If you don’t get my dorky humor, it’s okay. Most people don’t. Some do after thinking about it for a long time. Some need to have it explained. But it’s funny to me, so I laugh anyway. I hope you do as well.
Enjoy the video and love being present in every moment.
