Halfway into the game & im still going "Ooooh blue is a plus and red is a no no!" when adding stones, gems or whatever. My hats off to all of you who understand this game. I'm loving it. Even though I don't understand the story or really a damn thing about this game. Kill everything that wants to kill you........which is EVERYTHING.
@@Sylas6540 I put on the Brothers Code UA-cam video on Bloodborne once a week. I started about 2 years ago and I now know Laurence from Willem...as long as they're talking to each other 😂
Also something that you missed is that if your weapon does bolt or fire damage (by using gems you can change it to do that) you buff the bolt or fire damage by levelling up arcane
It’s 2022. 2023 is in one day. I have beaten bloodborne & been playing it for years. I STILL needed this. I didn’t understand the finer details with the scaling & it answered my questions. Thanks a lot & happy New Years to you!
I mean you posted this six years ago and I'm just now getting some use out of it so it's probably never too late to post something and thank you very much!
Even after 7 years - someone like me, who makes his first step to a Playstation to finally play Bloodborne, can appreciate the way you explained it. Especially since both Dark Souls and Elden Ring have different scaling systems. Maybe not entirely on the base dmg + percentage - stuff, but I got no idea what bloodtinge or arcane actually did if there's no magic.
burial blade would showcase the scaling because it automatically has arcane base damage and that goes up as you put into arcane and then if you also add fire or bolt gems to it they level up as well....badass weapon
Obviously I am posting on this thread way too late, but, obviously I was drawn to the video for some help, and it obviously has helped me because it gave some much needed advice that I had obviously forgotten about the last time I played the game, all those years ago. So, I obviously thank you. Cheers fella.
Thank you for explaining this, I was going to upgrade arcane, thinking that this would increase my weapons damage because there's a letter for arcane when actually it wouldn't increase my weapons damage because there's no base stat for arcane.
If you want to do the most damage with this weapon then just go with a physical quality build STR/SKL. If you do make ARC/SKL or ARC/STR build with the respective gems then you will be doing split damage which rarely stacks well against enemies because of their weaknessess and resistances. Besides, most enemies in bloodborne don't wear actual armor so physical damage is great on it's own. Two Bs are better than one A for scaling on a +10 Holy Blade. Just remember that.
I'm okay with the story being subtle and Cryptic but if your gonna make a game that's hard af at least explain how the complex weapon and upgrade system works
its not complicated if you have played any souls games. infact it is actually vastly superior to how it is defined in the souls games, where you usually have to infuse a weapon before you even see its elemental scaling, in this game it flat out tells you it scales a certain amount with arcane, so if you pump it with fire lighting or arcane blood gems, you can pick and choose which weapons give best results
Why are people saying this is complicated? It's simple: levelling your characters stats will only scale a property of a weapon, if the weapon actually has some base damage in that property, regardless of whether it has a letter (A, B C..) in that property. So with LHB it basically allows for more interesting/experimental builds later in the game because you can add some base damage to the Arcane property, it will then suddenly get a bonus from your characters Arcane level. The only question I have from this video is, how can you tell if a bonus is only applied if the weapon is in its trick mode? Is there a way to tell from the UI? PS. I'm late to the Bloodborne party I know, but I'm loving it.
So basicly an S rank adds to the base dmg 101% if the respective stat is at a certain level say an S in dex so say 40 in dex should have added 101% but if i have 25 dex then it will only add about half that value this info should be stated.
Make scripts for videos like this in the future. This video is the equivalent of getting directions for an unfamiliar town from from a guy at a gas station, and still being completely clueless and lost after 6 minutes of directions. I did get some of your explanation by multiple viewings but man details are choppy at best.
i hope the from games getting annouced soon is bb2 omg i want it so bad, i love dark souls but man bloodborne is so much more hectic and i love that and i personally think bloodborne is the hardest of the souls series
What makes it difficult is that it's all about speed. You have to think fast, dark souls is about patience and forethought. Bloodborne is about changing the strategies on the move during a fight, hitting the enemy while avoiding their attacks at the same time, as in you can't just tank hits you actually have to keep moving.
heyguyslol GAMING don’t concern yourself with the whole percentages thing. Just know that the higher the letter the higher the additional damaged tacked on. That’s what that number is to the right of the base damage number. If you’re adding gems on you’ll notice that’s the number that goes up and down when putting on certain gems. Honestly don’t bother with any math because it’s all done for you in game. Let’s say you put a lot into strength and want to pick a new weapon. You’ll want to see what letter each weapon has next to the strength symbol. The higher the letter it starts off as the easier it will be to gain additional damage from the weapon because you have more levels put into the strength category. Same goes for a skill based weapon. You don’t want to choose the kirkhammer or the axe because it won’t scale very high no matter how much you fortify it or the gems you put in. It all clears up once you realize that all you need to know is you choose your weapons based upon what kind of build you’re making.
@@John_Notmylastname Thx for the response. I was able to figure it out and complete the game. I really enjoyed it and at some point I'll probably do another play thru.
My character has 40 strength, 20 bloodtinge, a Bloodletter+10. Increasing strength raises the total damage by 4 per level, but raising bloodtinge appears to make no difference at all when I pile 5 levels on to it. The Bloodletter already has blood attack and is transformed yet the is no change from bloodtinge. What's up with that?
The bloodletter and chikage do more blood tinge damage when the skill is higher, say at 40 or 50,but watch out for hard caps, which start at level 50 for the bloodtinge
nam e puthpong all depends on what you level up. If you level up strength and skill your weapons will do a bit more overall damage. If you look in the stat menu you can see what the base plus scaling adds up to per weapon equipped.
I’m replaying Bloodborne in 2025 and I have beaten and even got the platinum trophy for this beautiful game and still didn’t understand why my church pick wasn’t getting a damage boost from me leveling arcane 😅
This is a good start to weapon scaling...however, you haven't touched on how attribute stats (strength, skill, etc) contribute to how much bonus damage you get.
It's also about the tipes of Gemstones you use, And what Level your Bloodtinge, Arcane, Strength & Skill is. If your levels are on there Hardcaps : Bloodtinge=(50) Arcane=(70)or(99)& you have a S, A or B Scaling weapon in Arcane or Bloodtinge, then the types of Gemstones you use affects your weapon greatly. And your Level of Strength and Skill also affect the output of your Gem's damage. My main weapons are the "Saw Cleaver" and "Ludwig's Holy Blade" : I was farming for Blood Echoes, and every time I Leveled up on Strength and Skill, the Gems I had on my weapons became stronger. All my Gemstones became stronger, Hardcaps for Strength and Skill are=(50). Arcane weapon + Arcane Gemstones. Bloodtinge weapon + Bloodtinge Gemstone. Beast weapon + Fire Gemstones or Bolt Gemstones. This is the lazy way I did it.
having a little knowledge of how scaling works helped me understand this further, but i can understand how people new to Bloodborne are a little confused. But in your defense, the scaling is very unclear and confusing so i think you did as well as you really could have to cover most bases.
Certain weapons attacks like moonlight swords glowing ranged attack scale separately from arc. Or the rifle spear shot gets dmg from blood only, while it's untransformed attacks are str&skill respectively. This means the 120 pvp level is only viable for half the builds...
Think your math is incorrect it's the letter bonuses are added based on your skill point allotment from leveling your character it's how much your % from stats are transferred to the weapon 40 str and 24 skill and 16 arcane from your character sheet are used as the bases to be added to the base damage increase.
I've been playing this game since it came out and finally, thanks to your video, I finally understand how weapon scaling fully works. Thank you so much.
I got 22 Blood Atk on my Blunderbuss, but when I try to add to my Bloodtinge stat, it doesn't add any damage onto the Blunderbuss' weapon slot. It's really starting to piss me off.
blunderbuss has very low tinge scaling, and very low base damage, this is because if it had high scaling, it would do bullshit amounts of damage, as the listed AR is each projectile. this is good and bad, bad because each projectile has defense removed from it separately, but good because it means a low tinge build with a +blood damage gem slotted in it can still get some decent damage.
Helo great video, im currently arc/str build with 70,50 respectively trying to main the kos parasite, I'd like to know if arc gems that go for flat arc would be better than %ones and if I should be using a specific type: uncanny, lost, etc
is it true that we can get the DLC weapon (but in uncanny and lost version) without have a DLC? i see the info from wiki that we can create glyph chalice and buy it from bath messenger from that location to buy some dlc weapon
For the scaling letters, you had ranges of percentages....but how do you figure out the exact percentage? For example I read on a wiki that the Whirligig Saw has S scaling for strength and it said (“in this case 110%”)....how do they know that?
I'm sorry I don't get it. Can someone else explain? Is he saying that the weapons have bonus damage depending on the scaling? And that it only scales off the base damage ofthat weapon?
Obviously I took a drink every time you said obviously and obviously I passed out but it ok because it all obvious obviously Thanks for the vid dude 👌🏼👍🏼
So I doubt the validity of what you're saying here. First quick point, you say it's worth leveling arcane to the minimum to use LHB, but LHB doesn't have an arcane attribute requirement to use. It's arcane scaling is based only on if you put a waning gem on it with a bolt or fire percentage boost which also changes it's damage type from physical to arcane. Second, you say the scaling percentage is based on the base damage of the weapon. Well if that's the case, and B scaling gives anywhere from 61% to 80%, then shouldn't the scaling bonus combination of STR and SKL put it's bonus damage at well over 190? Yet yours is sitting at 171. Scaling is not based on the weapon's damage combined with it's scaling bonus, it's based on the scaling multiplied by your own corresponding level in that attribute. If it was based solely on the weapon's base damage, leveling would be completely pointless. I don't mean to give you shit, but your info is wrong.
I ran the calcs on my +8 burial blade and my physical attack bonus was on point at 66% with the b scale while when I ran the c scale for the arcane I got 26% which almost 2x lower than the rough in the video. I was wondering why that is?
Misae Nakashima the tornitrus or however you spell it always has lighting damage but the l1 just makes it more powerful by basically applying a very short lightning paper.
Alright this helps but i still cant find an aswer to this, so the rakuyo has a D for arcane. What do i need to get my arcane level to in order to benefit from using the phantasm shell?
Jacob Phantasm Shell just adds 80 flat Arcane damage to whatever you aply it to. It doesn't scale with Arcane, so it will always give you the same extra damage regardless of your Arcane lvl.
Hay sorry I'm super late for this I just got this game for Christmas but what is better for the holy sword is it physical or arcane I can't tell mainly because my fire blood gem

First quick point, you say it's worth leveling arcane to the minimum to use LHB, but LHB doesn't have an arcane attribute requirement to use.
