Don’t shorten it!!! The balance is perfect and although the fabric is bold, the flowers are pretty close together so it gives an overall vibe rather than a bright splodge here & there. Congratulations! You’ve created a winner! 🏆

I agree! It has great style as is. It’s nice to have a variety of length options. Plus if you ever feel like it’s too much print, you can tone it down with a cardigan or jean jacket, for instance.

Quick tip on zipping up your dress when home alone.... run a string through the zipper pull before putting on the dress. Then hold the bottom of the zipper with one hand while pulling the string over your shoulder to zip up. I learned this from my grandma, as she lived alone and always had to zip up her dresses alone.

Wow!! That bodice is so flattering, you will need to make more with this. Make another as midi length, knee length, etc. But this version is perfection! The simple trim is really lovely with the print and the length is fabulous. What a dress! Of course you will get looked at, because it's gorgeous 😍 But it's definitely not "too much"

I agree! Keep the dress as is and just make another midi length one. I was unsure at first about adding the trim but the final results convinced me it was a great idea!👍
I had this wedding dress pattern made into a dress for my wedding in 1976. I had the long puffed sleeve. My sister used the pattern for her wedding the next year using the long bell sleeves. Mine was demure, and hers was stunning! I still have the pattern.

I had to make a version of this for a lined winter brides maids dress becausethe fabric was sheer...back in 74, it was much like this, only a w/o lining for a sheer long sleeve, it came out much better than I thought. The color scheme wasn't something I'd normally purchase so I didn't shorten it, I just gave it to someone who wore it to a winter formal dance. So it got two wearing anyway,Ahahaha 🎉

This dress is just perfection, the length is perfect, more for going out, if it was shortened it could be more of a everyday dress but those puff sleeves and the length is just beautiful as it is, it’s what makes it extra special. The trim is icing on the cake too.

I would LEAVE it that length! I love the simple princess lines, A-line taper without a lot of other busy gathers except the sleeves. Perfect amount of gathers! That print is so stunning this style just enhances the print! And the delicate trim enhances it rather than take away from the beauty of the print. No it is definitely NOT too much. Its perfect!

I agree with you that the fabric is busy. When you suggested that you would add the trim I thought "no". Then you said you would make it long. Again, I thought "no". But everything has come together very well. The trim is very attractive and enhances the lines. The length is perfect. I am fascinated at how well the patterns match on the seams - a large print is usually quite awkward. Well done. Enjoy your dress.

Beautiful work! I think the trim tones down the print in an interesting way: white and petite vs colourful and bright, a nice contrast.
An idea for a future back zip solution: shorten the zip to have it end lower on your back, leave a gap, then add a button with a loop on top: presto a little bit of back reveal plus independent dress donning!

Could a field of poppies be “too much”? Never! This dress is perfect in every way. It is super figure-flattering but the fit, length, neckline, trim, puffed sleeves and fabric choice make it perfectly demure. I can’t imagine a dress that could suit you better or bring more joy. Brava!

Beautiful dress, gorgeous fabric. The length is just right and is suitable for a luncheon, dinner out, party or even a wedding. I don't think you should shorten it, it's perfect as it is. You could make another one in a different type of fabric in a shorter length.
I have masses of vintage patterns from my mum which are in storage at the moment as I plan to move. I am itching to sew clothes with them.
