Making a Knight Inspired Tourney Dress ⚔️

- Why? Because I had a weird bit of red cotton sateen left and couldn't get the idea out of my head. Think medieval knight tourney tunic meets afternoon tea yeah?

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

One could say you're the Queen of Darts 😊
Good one 😅
This need to remain the top comment.
Well said
Absolutely perfect!

I love that she says that doing something Queen of Hearts for Valentine's Day was a "mistake" and not just a "coincidence."
I mean, if I'm gonna be on the nose I want it to be planned 🤣
@@TheClosetHistorian 🤣 Hope everything is going well with the house search! 🤞🏻
I will be forever grateful to you for taking the mystery out of pattern drafting. This week I finished a self drafted wrap dress which I was very proud to wear to work straight away. I wouldn't have known where to start before I began watching your videos ❤
Thank you Alex! I'm glad you've got a new dress, new dress days are the best! ✨🪡🧵
"Can I be trusted in the sewing room? Well, we will see."
I've been sewing for decades and I FELT this. I cannot be trusted.
This is such a cool and unique take on knight core. I don't think I have ever seen something, that brought the aethstetic to mind so quickly. And without all the grey and metal stuff to invoke the look of plate armour.
Thank you!!
Two big "Thank Yous". 1) Thank you for teaching us your knowledge of pattern making and sewing through this tutorial. and 2) thank you for extra light at the end when you put on this gorgeous dress. I wish you would step into sunlight so I can see the dress in daytime, but I'm not really complaining, I'm grateful for this wonderful tutorial and reveal in the end. Keep up the excellent work. 💖💖💖⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
You truly are the queen of pattern drafting! I suspect magic forces are at work.. Speaking of JoAnn fabrics, I was just there yesterday, and it was like a ghost town-- nothing restocked, very messy, and only 2 visible employees-- I panicked because I thought the store was closing. I asked the checkout person, and she said no, there was a worker shortage.
There are reports out that Joann's has had low profits and is facing bankruptcy out there. While worker shortage is definitely an issue, there's financial issues for the company looming overhead.
Hard to get people to work someplace they don't want to pay a living wage, or decent benefits. The only "full time " are management.
Joann now has an European arm and their website is truly horrible to use. I gave up with them.
Interesting what one hears besides sewing here.
I love that design, especially with the iron on pattern. I know it’s meant to be a mediaeval inspired piece, but the silhouette has a 1940s feel. Very sleek and attractive.
Amazing work yet again! You’re definitely a fabric magician.
Thank you! Definitely would be right at home in my 1940s catalogs ✨
The way the patterns get chopped and changed is magical.
I most wholeheartedly agree!
I love your voiceovers. It's like a stream of conscious, with a tutorial.
Thank you! 😂 I try and stay on track, but my mind wanders off project fast!
Oh, wow! This dress... Boom! Just letting you know: I'm working on my block. Thanks for encouraging me and so many people. 😊
I'm glad to hear it!! Stick with it and the other side will be so much more fun 😅🪡✨
I love how this dress turned out! The heat transfer design is gorgeous and I love that the inspiration came from beautiful architecture. I live in NYC and there are so many beautiful buildings - I've taken so many photos of the sculptural details but I still haven't incorporated anything into my designs yet. You're motivating me to design!
Thank you Kathryn! Architecture is a rich avenue for inspiration 🤩
Saw the thumbnail and got Harley Quinn vibes before reading the title. It's another wow!
Thank you! Alas I know nothing about/haven't seen Harley Quinn 😅
Love the shoulders, bodice, and design details! And yes, under-stitching works miracles.
They never told us about understiching in home ec!
Autocorrect had changed that to understanding. That was also not taught in home ec. And it should have been.
Thank you Kathy!
I love this, and I think you could wear this for anything, weddings to funerals and everything in-between.
Thank you!
Ugh. That came out so well. There's something exciting about watching you draft a pattern. Is that crazy? Anyway, I wouldn't put it past Joannes to lower the quality of one of their regular fabrics at all. I've always considered them a necessary evil when it comes to supplies. So sad. It would be nice to have suppliers with integrity!
Thank you! There are so few apparel fabric shops left that we clothing makers take what we can find 😵💫
I do love using up my fabric in my cabinet
That is stunning and a brilliant solution to leftover fabric!
Thank you Robin!
The skirt really draped nicely.
Great video as always! Your blue necklace was absolutely gorgeous!!
Thank you Ashley!
You said “you should always use two rows of gathering stitches instead of one” just as I was trying to distribute my gathers along one row of stitching and I froze like a dog caught eating their owner’s cheese
I'm not watching, but I am knowing 🤣
Absolutely adore this design ❣️ The "mistake" of being on theme for Valentine's Day is pure gold.
Thank you!
I am team pins galore and lots of them and pressing as you go is crucial! I so enjoy the sewing origami you do, Bianca!
Thank you Nancy!
Beautiful dress you look ready to go back in time and go to the Ritz for afternoon tea in London. Absolutely fabulous 😊
Thank you!
Just starting but right off the bat I have to say that that neckline you are rocking is absolute 🔥🔥🔥. STUN-NING!
Thank you! It's one of my all time favorites ✨
So I decided to make a corset type bodice top thing. Because I have an inflated idea of my skill level I decided to drape it. I got the bodice bit down no problem, but oh my god the bust cups were driving me insane. I kept adding little slivers here and there and it kept coming out pointy - and then I remembered! I clearly remember you saying "Darts will fix f**king everything". So I did the old slash and spread and it worked. Omg I love you. I'm going to call my pattern "The Bianca Boob" in honour of you. Thank you.
Wow! Another great piece. Love the red and black.
Thank you Simone!
I worked a lot in costume shops and as an overhire stitcher for Theater, Opera, and Ballet. There were rarely any "instruction sheets" for our projects. I learned to be intuitive and still rarely need instruction sheets when sewing with commercial patterns. I rarely use commercial patterns now.
You look so beautiful as always Miss Bianca!!! A true queen of hearts
Thank you Nicole! ❤️
I have to say, as a medievalist I do love it when you get inspired by elements of the period🤩
I really like the way the back turned out. It's like a little surprise instead of how costumey it might look if you'd included a red side on the skirt.
This design is so striking and beautiful. It looks phenomenal! Also, the flocking idea turned out so beautifully and is so tempting to try.
Thank you! The flocking is so fun it's a problem 🤣
I learned a few tricks here. Thank you so much for another super informative and enjoyable video. ❤
Thank you!!
That grown on collar looks really elegant (it kind of reminds me of some of the shirts from Star Wars). It would be cool to get a tutorial on it and other collar drafting methods.
Gorgeous as usual. I love your videos and you are such a joy to watch.
Thank you!
Look at you in red. Fall out! Nice touch.
Thank you!
My preferred method of seam finishing is rayon or silk binding or french seams, but I will also sometimes just run a zigzag stitch along the seam allowance after I sew the seam. I put the tension very low, at 1 or 2, and I widen the zigzag a bit. It's sort of like machine overcasting I guess.
Just fabulous watching you put together this dress. Makes me want to run and sew something. So simple, so stylish. Of course I am waiting for the black and green version!
Thank you Kaytie! No one has good green sateen right now, and it is a bummer for me for sure 🪲
I'm such a texture person that I was drawn to the soft flowy silky fabrics. I learned using those and very rarely use sturdier fabrics. It was a steep learning curve, but I was stubborn enough to make it work eventually. 😅
I have learned so much from you and have upped my sewing game by leaps and bounds. Thank you for doing these videos. 🥰
Thank you! You are very brave! Slinky stuff means I have to slow down and I'm usually far too impatient 😂
What a beautiful dress and really suits you I love watching how you make your items even though I don't sew myself I find the whole process fascinating
Thank you Debra!
Oh my stars and little comets, that is GORGEOUS!!!!!
Thank you Michelle!!
Very nice!
Gorgeous as always ❤
Thank you Trixia!
The theme drew me in. Very nice. I don't think i had seen a double bust dart before. Thank you for using matching thread ! It takes the finishing up a knotch. 💖🙂 Hope you are well. 🙏
Thank you Jayne!
Love the combination!
i'm sending hearts to my favorite youtube artist!!!💖💖💖
I just love the way that looks. I'm embarking on making some cargo shorts with a block pattern that I've been working on because of your channel. I'm going to try some zippers too! You're such an inspiration!
Thank you! Make all the things!!
Tailors hams and clappers are so underrated for beginning sewers. They really are such excellent tools and make such a difference in final results. That and even a basic stream iron.
Ohhhh I love the Harley Quinn vibes!
Very pretty 😀
Love it!
Thank you!
Beautiful!
Thank you Suzanne!
Just lovely
Thank you Teresa!
That is stunning and abri
Beautiful! As always!
Thank you Suzanne!
It’s fabulous!
Thank you Cynthia!
Love, love, love!
Love that necklace!!
Another winner - am going to use this idea to make a medieval dress to wear to medieval fayre (we get a lot of those here). I will have to find a stencil for the patterns though.
Thank you Mandy! A stencil would be great and very Mariano Fortuny esk ✨
Love your necklace🎉
Holy poop!! This is STUNNING!!
Thank you!!
Oh, Bianca, this was an especially wonderful project! Also, I just want to say how very much I enjoy your narration and your background music. Delightful as always.
Thank you!
Stunning as always 😍
Thank you Mara!
Love a good party!
I bet they changed the manufacturer for the sateen. Joann's is really hurting for money, and they just filed for bankruptcy. I agree with all your sentiments about Joann's and fabric shopping in general! I love the dress! It's an aptly themed dress for the occasion.
It turned out so good
Thank you!
What lovely work! Fun decal!
Thank you!
Thank you, thank you for being you
I just love to watch you create and this dress is beautiful.
Thank you!
Gorgeous!!! ( as always, of course!)
Thank you!!
Perfection as always with everything you do.
Thank you Marie!
Divine as always! ♥️🤩

@@TheClosetHistorian You're welcome
Really pretty love the stencil you designed 👌🇬🇧❤️😁
Thank you Jaki!
🌺Beautiful dress🌺
Thank you Nina!
I would like to say that you absolutely awesome. I really love your presentation. I’ve just started to learn sew . I think I’ve left it too late at 50. My great grandad used to be as Taylor it’s a shame he didn’t pass on it to us all. An expression came to mind when you said about taping the paper.. “tape now don’t tear later.”
Thank you Jonathan! It's never too late to sew!! I would love to got back in time and learn from the masters, so much unique knowledge is lost within time ❤️
I love the red and black together. You did a fabulous job on this dress.
On another note, I have found a 1950s cast iron sewing machine, which I’ve been wanting for sew long. I have found a reputable source to do a few minor repairs and refurbish it. It’s in the original cabinet and I’m also having that refurbished. I’m so excited to get sewing again.
Thank you! I hope you and the machine have a lot of fun together!!
Oh wow, that neckline is fantastic. Thank you for sharing!! I came across your channel recently while looking for beetle brooches and have been binge watching ever since! Just can't get enough of your awesome content and wonderful sense of humour!! Love that 99K as well.
Thank you!!
Gorgeous dress. You look stunning.
Thank you Natalie!
As usual, I'm stunned by your talent.
Thank you!!
Another amazing garment.I love the way you explain how you alter patterns, you make it so easy to understand.
Thank you Maureen!
Ahh love the dress! I need to try that collar style one day.
Thank you! It is a surprising simple collar modification!
This is very sleek and lovely. I like the HTV pattern! And that you added a bit on the back as well. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you Tiffany!
This is very stylish and really suits you.
Thank you!
This is so cool! I love the harlequin look. It's so fun.
Thank you!
You look so nice in this dress ❤
Thank you Carol!
I so enjoy your videos, the neck line on your outfit you’re wearing in this video is also amazing! You could use the red n silver bug
buddy on the black n red outfit. I use to back in high school make my own outfits, I loved sewing some wild jackets man oh man they were Great! But. I haven’t sewed in many moons. I do love watching you brings good memories!!TKS
This just convinced me I need a Cricut for my birthday. lol Love this dress!
Thank you! The htv is too much fun 😅✨
I love, love, love this outfit!!!!!! I want to make a similar one for my wardrobe. Thank you so much for this video!! ❤❤❤
Thank you Elizabeth!
Video Pops up- instand joy and excitement 🎉. I'm sure I will enjoy this video, like all of your other contents 😊
Thank you!!
You make such beautiful garments. This one is lovely, and I like the peek of skin at the back neck. I learn something new every time you put out a video. Thanks
Thank you!!
What a wonderful clever lady you are, it's so beautiful 💖
Thank you!
You looked particularly stunning in this video, might I say. That necklace is gorge. And as always, the dress is fantastic! Love your work, I never tire (though pants would be welcome at some point!)
Thank you!
ooh there's a something of a lotr vibe to the "crest" pattern you used!
Neat! I hope house hunting is going well!
Oooh, there are SO many things I love about this dress! The contrast of deep red and black has always been one of my favorites (I *still* have a floor length multi-paneled black and red skirt purchased from Hot Topic waaaay back when I was a teenager because I just love the sharp contrast so much, lol), the flared collar and puffed sleeves are such gorgeous little details, and of course your silhouette and tailoring is pure perfection. If this were in black and purple I'd be getting definite Maleficent vibes, and now I'm envisioning making something similar for a low-key, more comfortable Ren Faire costume option (I love my black and dark red pirate get up, but four skirts is a LOT in the heat, ha ha!)
Thank you! Yes a fully washable cotton ren-faire outfit would be a nice change from most ensembles! 😂
