Proper locos all of them and original engined HSTs with their distinct sound when powering away. These were the good days, I remember spending a day there back when class 33s used to work in on the Cardiff services , I had recorded over 300 locos in a day !

Great video- to think we used to get this level of entertainment for free everyday! We used to ignore the choppers, 31s and electrics and only photograph 37s, 45s and 56s - unbelievable!
Just needed a close up of that huge bag of chips from the great chippy 5 mins from the Station- with the slurry of mushy peas poured right over the top and a dusting of salt like snow!!!

Such eclectic times, full of colour and variety, and some truly fascinating movements. Crewe was buzzing back then.
In October 1990 the final class 90 of the build had just entered service so 90049 would have been just weeks old in this clip, and only yards away from where she was built too! Even in the 1990s the UK still has some manufacturing and engineering kudos. Not so much anymore sadly.

Amazing footage of those great days which are very sorely missed. It's also food for thought that the steam locomotive has outlived the diesel (47615) which dragged it into the station (scrapped 2013).

Here's a timeline on Alternate History Forums in which BR was never privatised (well, the freight operations get privatised in 2004, but passenger operations remain nationalised), starting with the Thatcher government choosing not to fund electrification of the ECML, and Britain's railway is better for it: www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/tl-the-double-headed-arrow-uk-trains.384467/
