Using 6th gear is a big no no, trans wont last long, i know from experience. My 2007 lwb 2.4l diesel tows my 2T caravan and us loaded with my drag bike, tools etc all around aust, no probs. It is chipped and i tow in 5th. Combined vehicle mass is 5.7t and allowed is 6.2t
Yeah, the 2.4 + chip does the job. The 115 horsepower in this 2.2 is not enough for frequent and comfortable towing of this much weight. The rare 200 hp 3.2 has to be wonderful though!
Good morning mate. I saw your video and I was very curious about the behavior of the transit. Did you miss more braking power in the van? rear suspension withstood the irregularities of the road well? at engine level, did you lack power? I have the transit custom mk8 2020, with the 2.0 ecoblue 130hp 405nm engine. I'm about to put in the towing system, to pull a trailer with a gross weight of 1500kg. My problem is that the van is just FWD, when I put weight on it, in the load part it lifts too far forward. Afterwards it seems that there is not much traction, I have never used a trailer in the transit, it will be the 1 time and I am somewhat afraid. From now on, transit will always ride with the trailer. Recommend I buy a ranger, amarok, etc. 4x4 style to pull a trailer? Thanks and best wishes.
Sorry for the late response and thanks for watching! To answer your question, yes I would recommend getting a powerful 4x4 to tow. The Transit is very underpowered and in this video, I basically was going full throttle all the time. The brakes on the Transit are also not enough to comfortably tow this kind of weight. Although this trailer had strong brakes, so it was alright. Don't be afraid, you can certainly tow heavy loads even with the weaker engines, but is not going to be as comfortable as towing behind a heavy 4x4 truck.

I average about 15l per 100km btw.
Legal in your county? Same engine for me is 2000kg legal only
Illegal to be honest hahaha. We just had no other way to tow it at that moment.
@@TomKosCars That's fair. At least you know its possible
Buena tarde q motor tiene la transit?
It is the 2.2 liter TDCi diesel with 115 horsepower and 6 speed manual.
I dint think this little car could tow more than a 2000kg...
From what I've read 6k lbs is max
