Okay, some people in this comment section are trying to ask questions because the genuinely want to know. But *so many* of these comments are trying to point out inconsistencies (that aren't there) and acuse the makers of this of being careless or incorrect. The alarm clock was vibrating, she could have been receiving a face time or text, she saw the police cars light in the rearview mirror, and some deaf people are mute while others can talk or personally prefer not to. Please think before you type.
Mayo Colvin building on that in my experience (I've met a few deaf people) the deaf people who can't speak usually are the ones who have been deaf since birth so they never learned to speak. But people who have gone deaf by other means and know how to talk usually just say stuff and have people write down their responses. I met a guy who just carried around a notepad and handed it to you after he said something.
the alarm clock also emits a bright light similar to if someone shined a torch in your eyes or some one was taking pictures you may be asleep but after a while, you'd notice. The only flaw I see is in one scene she tells a guy that he doesn't need to speak really slowly and forced yet in the next scene she says she can't understand the police man, after saying she knew how to read lips in the previous scene, I know it's difficult reading random peoples lips but they were stereotypical lines police say when being pulled over. Once again she could have signed at him he wouldn't understand but maybe he'd get the hint :P
so someone understands i was looking through the comments untill i saw this you arnt wrong people say that because they dont know what it is like to be deaf.
I think sign language should be one of the language courses you should have the option of taking while in school. It's the third most used language in the US right after Spanish.
+MadameTamma I transferred to a different high school sophomore year, which had ASL classes. I took them because I always thought ASL was interesting, and I was no good at French. 6 years later and I'm almost done my interpreter training. I hope to focus on medical interpreting, then eventually specialize in legal interpreting.
absolutely not. why should a cop waste his valuable time catering to the 6% who are deaf. then he should cater to blind people, sensitive people, drug addicts, homeless, etc. just no

I'm not deaf, but my best friend is, so back in kindergarten I wanted to learn sign language to talk to ten new girl. I learned most of it by 2nd grade, and now I'm fluent!
At early ages in life it is easy to learn a language than if you were to do so at the age of say 20 so depending on how much effort and what your age is you can learn it in about a month
Boyerz Urashima Yeah my cousin was surprised when I told her sign language isn't international. I told her sign is just like any other language, It has many different branches. The sign language most people see is American sign but that's only a small fraction of the sign language community.
hearing aids/implants not only don't work for everybody, but also some people just don't want them because this is their lifestyle and what they're used to.
+Anun Kash you might like it for awhile but trust me, once you get used to hearing, you will have a heck a lot of difficulties being deaf. (vice versa) but I think it's easier for a deaf person to cope with suddenly being able to hear again because they can still communicate using sign language

This video doesn't only focus on the fact that it's hard not to be able to hear but it's an equal mix of the downsides and the perks and I'm living for it.

They teach deaf folks to use sensory language like this (and using "Oh, I see" if blind), because they are idioms with metaphorical meaning, not just literal.
For those who don't understand why those who are hearing impaired make ”weird” faces and a lot of exaggerated gestures, its because, in a world where visuals are one of the only ways to communicate, visual expressions are our version of, tone of voice. It tells us the context of the conversation that we can hear but rather see. It's like body language X10. Expression is everything.
+Jp.Girl How many times have you met a deaf person compared to a Spanish speaker? So no, it doesn't make "much more sense." I think there should be the option of having sign language in high school, but Spanish and French are better options if we're talking about something you'd be able to use every day. With deaf people, we are at least able to communicate through writing but we can't write in English to speakers of other languages unless they already know English.
met·a·phor ˈmedəˌfôr,ˈmedəˌfər/ noun: metaphor; plural noun: metaphors a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
Eye opening! My wife and I are going to be parenting a teen who’s deaf. I want to make sure she’s happy so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about the issue.
As a late deafened individual I can say these things from experience, there are varying degrees of deafness. some people are deaf in 1 ear and full hearing in the other, wile others have no hearing what so ever and no amplification will help while some people have cochlear implants or hearing aids but that only helps again to a certain degree. It all depends on that individual's loss. I am almost completely deaf without my hearing aids in and when I do have them in everything is amplified to the same degree. It is nothing like how I remember natural hearing. Those of us who have hearing aids and cochlear implants are able to listen to music and talk on the phone or stream media through these devices. Not all deaf people talk some talk and some don't this all depends on a persons preference. I only talk because I was hearing for 20 years before my loss. I much prefer to sign but not everyone knows ASL (American Sign Language) which is my countries official signed language. Some of us deaf or hard of hearing (HoH) individuals only talk to a select few people on the phone because they know how to speak in order for us to be able to understand them. Some deaf/HoH people read lips while others don't. Please stop making accusations and assumptions and research things. If ever curious ask a deaf or HoH individual. I am sure they would love to help educate you on our culture. It is pretty amazing and so are the people.
Nice Lilly, I don’t know how it happened. My mother screamed my name and I didn’t answer. This continued for 3 months. I didn’t respond to anything. My mom took me too the doctors, and they said simply, she’s deaf.
So at one point the guy doesn't know she's deaf, but later he's doing sign language with her. He must not have a good memory. Then she reads lips and then she doesn't, she doesn't have a good memory either, since she forgot she could do that. Also, why would you have sound on your phone if you are deaf?
Haha as for the repeat actor playing different characters, we were short on actors. And lipreading is a finnicky skill--a lot of d/Deaf/HOH people will try to get by on lipreading if it's expected to be a quick, typical conversation with someone they won't really see again--like a cashier--rather than explain their backstory or even specific needs (which really depend on circumstance). When we are engaged in a longer conversation or meeting someone we expect to see more often, that's usually when we explain that lipreading is by no means an exact science and is generally not our preferred method for total understanding. And many d/Deaf/HOH people leave sound on purposely because they have some degree of hearing, OR they don't realize that their sound is on because--you guessed it--they're deaf. This is a pretty generalized video and it doesn't mean every d/Deaf/HOH person has the same experience. The director and writer of this is profoundly Deaf, so it reflects a little more of her experience rather than the experience of someone who has some residual hearing.
+JNCressey no when something gets asked to the parents and it appears that they can not hear they will always look at the so you just pretend you didn't hear anything and can't respond
***** yeah me and my siblings always turn on the music really loud which is not nice against my father i guess but yeah when i'm mad i can slam the door and all that kind of stuff.I started signing first and then i started learning to talk.
They Don't Reply Back did you learn an entire keyboard of by heart and somehow know it enough to type with pinpoint accuracy? Because if you did that is actually quite amazing
I’m hearing but I’m currently learning ASL and Auslan, but moreso ASL. I should probably be learning Auslan but I prefer ASL (I don’t know if it’s because I find it easier or because I started first, but if I ever want to sign to my friends it’ll always be ASL over Auslan).
Institution of Steel saying being deaf is bad is not offensive at all. it IS a bad thing which is why nobody wants to be deaf. Get off your morale high horse. and you calling them mentally retarded is acceptable? pot meets kettle.
Interesting. I had a deaf roomate back at University. You can't always assume everyone can hear well or hear at all, but usually if it's something really important I tap the person on the shoulder to gain their attention. Otherwise I let people be. It's fun to see people talk in sign language!! Also I usually always carry my phone with me in case a communication issue comes up, or even signing on notepad apps if communication has to be written out. But it's amazing to see the world in this perspective! All the more respect!
I miss out on anything funny when spoken. So when someone said something extremely funny. I don't hear it so everyone laughs and looks at me because I am not laughing and I look so confused.
I have a deaf classmate. She is a girl and we are on 6th grade, the average age of a 6th-grader is about 11-12. She is 16 and I'm 12. She doesn't know how to sign language, which confused me. Her family has money and I didn't know why she didn't know how to sign language. All of us can hear and talk. During classes she just sit and wait there until it's done. She doesn't understand anyone except if you put it in a piece of paper, or imitate it with your hands, and say it outloud. She can hear a teeny tiny bit. She is so nice and friendly to me. When she's going to graduate, she said she's being homeschooled by her grandmother. She seems sad, and I feel bad for her.
Trixie Robinson awww that is so sad. I’m 100% deaf. I can hear nothing at all so I go to a deaf school which I think she should go to a deaf school to because they can help her better. But what is it like to hear? It is scary or exciting? Both?
@@sharedaccount4918 Hearing is...magical. Yes, it's like magic. I don't know how to really describe it to you. But it honestly is just hearing wavelengths and perceiving pitch. I guess though, what you're after is what it's like but I can't do that. I can't, because it is something that I grew up with. To make you understand for yourself, I suppose the only way would to be able to preceive sound. But me saying that is an equivalent to, "A blind person seeing." It's hard to actually explain. Although, hearing really is like magic.
I got in trouble in class one day for helping my deaf friend understand what the teacher was saying by handing him notes. She didnt know he was deaf but now she does and we're good. Working in learning sign language to help better!
Well when daredevil was blind he could hear very well all around New York, so if she's deaf maybe she can see very well like molecules and detect if those molecules make noise.
Oh wow, at 4:29 I thought she had an insect on her chest. I jumped a bit. Interesting insight into being deaf. I like the benefits of sign language though, it's seems to be a very useful skill.
I am currently learning asl. I am not completely fluent but I can hold a conversation for a long time. I learning from my home. I have a auntie that I’m very close with and she is deaf and so I learned from her and we talk in asl all the time
heaven perea that's what a lot of people do, they usually have a deaf family member and start to learn, asl so they can talk to them however, I am CODA (Child Of Deaf Adult)
2:49 In this instance I think I'd be really cool to know sign language when someone can see you from a place they cant hear you from, but still be able to communicate with you
God damn this makes me respect the shit of blind and deaf people I wouldn't survive a day If I was blind I wouldn't know how my own parents look or my family or enjoy any technology/beauties of the world And if I was ever deaf I would feel so lonely.
Adapted King I'm deaf and I can speak and sign. But if I didn't get the help when I was little with talking I would only sign. I don't sign now but if someone ask me something while signing I would sign back. :)

This makes me wanna learn sign language so I can help people in the world out some day...
Me too
when I was younger I had to learn sign language cause I was deaf. when I was 10 years old they did a surgery that fixed it so I could finally hear

in school rather than learning shit like Spanish and French we should learn sign language
My school does do that!
True! But spanish is one of the most popular languages spoken in the world.
rocknroll029749 i already know but sign language makes much more sense
+Jp.Girl How many times have you met a deaf person compared to a Spanish speaker? So no, it doesn't make "much more sense." I think there should be the option of having sign language in high school, but Spanish and French are better options if we're talking about something you'd be able to use every day. With deaf people, we are at least able to communicate through writing but we can't write in English to speakers of other languages unless they already know English.
In my school, we have an option of Spanish, French, Italian, or American Sign Language (ASL.) I chose ASL.

Just found out how to get out of a car ticket

Did anyone else watch the video on mute?
Nice Lilly I had too. I put on Captions. I am deaf
Erykah Badu_Fan - I’m so sorry. How long have u been deaf?
Nice Lilly I was 4
Nice Lilly, I don’t know how it happened. My mother screamed my name and I didn’t answer. This continued for 3 months. I didn’t respond to anything. My mom took me too the doctors, and they said simply, she’s deaf.
Erykah Badu_Fan - Aww
How did u handle it and how did u not realized for 3 months? How old were u when u found out?
So at one point the guy doesn't know she's deaf, but later he's doing sign language with her. He must not have a good memory. Then she reads lips and then she doesn't, she doesn't have a good memory either, since she forgot she could do that.
Also, why would you have sound on your phone if you are deaf?
baconfromhell666 you should be one of those exposing channels.
Well if her phone was on silent, nobody else would hear it, that's the good thing. someone who 'can hear' can tell her it's ringing :-)
hi oh nice i'm happy a very wish u day that

i have deaf parents and they made me pretend to be deaf to pay less money at attractions/other stuff haha
+Romy Hindriks Me too! Like on Six flags Deaf Awareness Day where tickets are cheap.
+Romy Hindriks. Is it easy to pretend to be deaf, or do you make yourself wear earbuds so you can't hear so not respond to sound by accident?
+JNCressey no when something gets asked to the parents and it appears that they can not hear they will always look at the so you just pretend you didn't hear anything and can't respond
***** yeah me and my siblings always turn on the music really loud which is not nice against my father i guess but yeah when i'm mad i can slam the door and all that kind of stuff.I started signing first and then i started learning to talk.
+Romy Hindriks You started signing first? Wow, that is interesting.

Damn Son
Interesting. I had a deaf roomate back at University. You can't always assume everyone can hear well or hear at all, but usually if it's something really important I tap the person on the shoulder to gain their attention. Otherwise I let people be. It's fun to see people talk in sign language!! Also I usually always carry my phone with me in case a communication issue comes up, or even signing on notepad apps if communication has to be written out. But it's amazing to see the world in this perspective! All the more respect!
I’m so grateful now
Throwing up all those gang signs
lol
Damn degenerates.

Don C it’s a joke you melon
I am able to talk and I still feel left out when sitting on a table with people having a group conversation 😂
Both?
@@sharedaccount4918 It's amazing to hear! when she sees other deaf people, she's so happy! 😄
Trixie Robinson that’s amazing!
BellaRose ok cool and thanks. And I know it is hard to explain but you did pretty good. 👍 thank you
I watched the video without volume to get the full experience
Seve Hynes30 how was it
I was expecting this to have no audio
It's to show what she's missing out on :3
Shes not "missing out" on anything! Its not called hearing loss, instead it is deaf *GAIN*, my friend
"A day through a deaf person's eyes" they're deaf, I think their eyes are perfectly fine
okay sorry I had to
+wonderstorms lol
Eyes is a metaphor
Seán Brennan I'm very aware of that
+wonderstorms ... I don't get it.
What's wrong with the title? I don't think it's implying any sort of visual impairment.
I got in trouble in class one day for helping my deaf friend understand what the teacher was saying by handing him notes. She didnt know he was deaf but now she does and we're good. Working in learning sign language to help better!
When you fart how do you know if is loud or not?
feel the vibrations bro
you follow through n need new underwear, of course
Well when daredevil was blind he could hear very well all around New York, so if she's deaf maybe she can see very well like molecules and detect if those molecules make noise.
cockashe nah man daredevil was able to hear objects in rooms that's how good his hearing is she probably just has a little bit over normal sight
I'mShitFace maybe the vibration of the fart
Oh wow, at 4:29 I thought she had an insect on her chest. I jumped a bit. Interesting insight into being deaf. I like the benefits of sign language though, it's seems to be a very useful skill.

Bighaney Productions It’s A Necklace
It is a useful skill! I just finished an ASL course and it's really fun!
I am currently learning asl. I am not completely fluent but I can hold a conversation for a long time. I learning from my home. I have a auntie that I’m very close with and she is deaf and so I learned from her and we talk in asl all the time
Luis l am deaf full
I am learning ASL as well! 2 1/2 years of self teaching!
heaven perea that's what a lot of people do, they usually have a deaf family member and start to learn, asl so they can talk to them however, I am CODA (Child Of Deaf Adult)
That talking through a window and under water is freaking handy, I never thought about that.

In this instance I think I'd be really cool to know sign language when someone can see you from a place they cant hear you from, but still be able to communicate with you
As a hard of hearing person, I would say this is pretty accurate.
God damn this makes me respect the shit of blind and deaf people I wouldn't survive a day
If I was blind I wouldn't know how my own parents look or my family or enjoy any technology/beauties of the world
And if I was ever deaf I would feel so lonely.
All I can see is I'm so thankful of my senses
Adapted King I'm deaf and I can speak and sign. But if I didn't get the help when I was little with talking I would only sign.
I don't sign now but if someone ask me something while signing I would sign back.
