iPhone iMovie won’t let me add a transition in between clips I’ve split. It’s very frustrating that some clips will let me add a transition and others won’t..

Hi Pete, I won’t to record a song/guitar video but moving the camera into different positions and then use transitions. I could mime over a recording or use some sort of visual click to keep the timing. Any ideas?
Hey John. Yes, this can be challenging in iMovie due to not having multiple video tracks. When I have created similar videos in the past using something like Premiere Pro I have just recorded the song through a few times, lined up all the clips to sync, and then cut between shots. With only only real video track in iMovie this might be challenging. I’ll play around with the concept and share any ideas I have.
With the updated iMovie it is now at least possible to do one clip on top of another. I very highly recommend getting LumaFusion if you’re interested in doing more “clever” video work though, as it has 6 video tracks now and is a lot more intuitive to use, plus its only like 20 (usa) dollars. (#notasponsor).
That’s it as far as transitions in iMovie go. If you want more selection you might need to check out a more advanced editor like LumaFusion. ua-cam.com/video/p506-m_URGU/v-deo.html

Yes. iMovie treats photos a little differently but you can still use transitions.

Just go towards the end of the clip and add transition. It will add a fade out (or in)

That’s odd. Maybe the clips are too short?
When I tap on the transition on my iPad it doesn’t select it and doesn’t open the transition menu.

How to you change the default to cut instead of dissolve? Also, how can you change multiple transitions at once?

It should pre- installed on all new iPads and iPhones, but if you don’t have it, just visit the App Store and download for free.

For transitions? You can use no transitions for a jump cut or just use any of the other transitions.
that is what i was wanting to do as well. maybe add a black photo at the end to is can transition to a black screen.

How do I delete....
Tap and select “delete” works for most things.
How do I add a number to the transition like a countdown or list video? I want to put #1, #2 etc…
You might need a piece of footage with the numbers on already, or use the title on a background image.

Yeah not sure sorry? Haven’t used iMovie in a while. Tend to use LumaFusion more these days as it has a much wider variety of options.

Yup. Was $7.99 here in Australia - and I paid for it, along with GarageBand. Apple should really refund me $14 for helping folks use their product. :D
