Pete Johns but please what if the part of the track is at the end of the song that’s not downloaded because the audio is longer than the video. That’s what everyone wants to know, Iphone is so sneaky! Should be so much easier. Thank you!!.
@@alexd1121 hello so sorry for the late delay, Apple has you covered but at a minor inconvenience. You can splice the clip length in garage band then use that exact track for your video👍

Hey there. You’ll need to tap the audio and change it from background to foreground. You’ll then be able to change the start position to wherever you want it.
Hey Barry. So, no, iMovie doesn’t have any audio plugins or effects. What I would do it use GarageBand first to add effects to your audio and then bring this in to iMovie.

I generally use either GarageBand or AudioShare to record audio and then import in to iMovie or my editing app. ua-cam.com/video/JvAMg_1enjI/v-deo.html
Hey Pete, thanks again for this one. I am however, stuck bad in trying to move the audio backwards and forwards in relation to the video. I’ve tried everything I could gleen from you and elsewhere. What I have is video of myself singing a song and audio from GarageBand of my voice singing to a karaoke version of the song I bought on iTunes. The video I took with my iPhone X, and it has the sound of my voice in the track from it’s built in mic. I was wearing headphones while recording video and audio at the same time. Thus, I can see where my voice is on the audio track attached to the video, especially if I detach it from the video. I’ve tried both ways, detached audio from the video, and the audio from GarageBand, and attached audio still on the video and the (main) audio from GarageBand. Neither way works. I’ve put the GarageBand audio both in the background and the foreground, to no avail. It remains stuck to the position of the video like a dog with a bone. I’ve trimmed off the front, the back and both, of the audio, but still it remains in it’s same position relating to the video. And of course, it’s not in the correct position. Now in iMovie on the Mac, it’s no problem to move the audio anywhere you desire. However, I’m trying to migrate my work to the iPad alone. This is very frustrating? Is it time for LumaFusion or another, more robust app? Thanks in advance.
Hi there. I’ve had a few folks contact me about audio and how to line it up with video so o think I will investigate this is a video soon. I thought you could just make the audio foreground and position it where you wanted but sounds like that might not be the case?
Pete Johns, thanks man. It hasn’t been the case in my experience. I’m coming from iMovie on the Mac, and I just want this one thing (move audio fore and aft)... Perhaps too much to ask. Is LumaFusion on the lunar horizon??? 🤔
I had a thought, a dangerous thing. Since I could easily move audio in the Mac version of iMovie, and since I had in the past always saved the GarageBand song to iTunes on the Mac, I thought perhaps that’s the main difference between Mac audio moving and iOS audio moving, in iMovie. So, I took a GB track, moved it to iTunes on the Mac, moved it next to my iPad, and then moved it into a project in iMovie. Then I tried to move the audio. Still can’t do it.... 😡😡😡
OK Pete, I figured it out. I used a clap technique I learned from someone, I don’t know who. You start the audio in GarageBand and then the video in whatever camera your using for video capture. You give yourself a little room, 20 seconds or so, to have some cutting space. You mainly want to start the audio first and the video second. This gives you space on your audio timeline to cut from the front. I suppose you could do this from the rear too, but that would be cumbersome. In the video, before you start the song, you make sure your hands are in the screen for a clap. The sound spike of the clap shows up as a spike in the audio wave on both the video’s sound (make sure it’s on) and the audio’s sound from GarageBand. After recording your audio and video, you start an iMovie project, doesn’t matter which one you load into the project first. After both the audio and video are loaded, the GarageBand audio, which was started first, will lag behind the audio on the video track. Next, you bring the volume of the video’s sound up to 150% or so, just so you can locate the spike of the clap. Remember, it will be prior to the spike in the GB audio track. You don’t have to seperate the audio from the video track, as long as you can see it to locate the spike. Next up, you have to cut from the front of the GB audio track to move the spike from right to left in the timeline. You keep cutting until the two spikes are in perfect alignment. Bingo! You’re synced up between the video from the camera and the audio from GB. Now you just turn the volume of the video’s audio to zero and you have the audio from GB for the rest of the main video/audio interface. Austensibly, it includes the music that you recorded your voice with in GB after going through the “clap” sequence during the original recording. Keep in mind, if you cut too much off the GB audio, moving the GB spike too far left, you can always add it back since it’s never really gone... This is not exactly like the fore/aft ability to move audio in iMovie for the Mac, but it works.... 🤓👍👍👍
It can be challenging. I use the audio waveforms to help line up my cuts. I’ll cover this more in my next video about iMovie audio which is in the works.
Hi there. You would need an instrumental version or "karaoke" version of the song. Removing vocals from a song to get a backing track is very challenging... almost impossible. Sorry!
Hey there. My go-to way to do this is use the "AudioShare" app. It's only a few dollars to buy and a really useful app for sending audio around your iPad/iPhone apps and converting/trimming/normalising audio. Just import a video file in and then your can export as WAV or M4A.
Thanks Pete for your narratives. I’m doing lofi music video with 20 songs. The video part is ready…all I need to do is add the songs. Having a horrible time adding the songs in foreground one after the other. In background they pop in great, one after the other. In foreground they want to go all the way to the beginning. As I get on in the video, it’s really hard to get the next songs in after the previous. Any thoughts?
Yeah multiple audio tracks can be challenging in iMovie. I would actually recommend LumaFusion if you’re doing more complex editing. ua-cam.com/video/p506-m_URGU/v-deo.html
Thanks. I actually made it work with the multiple foreground audio files on iMovie. It’s kinda tricky, but doable. Thank you for your encouragement…I wish I could explain it in a comprehensive way. My technical verbiage is limited at best! lol+
Hi there my friend. I have more iMovie videos about using titles and images coming soon. Here's my current playlist of videos if you would like to take a look - ua-cam.com/video/37t7oBujatw/v-deo.html
This vid covered everything except for what I was looking for lol. how do you add multiple tracks to a video and have them play one after another? For instance if a video is long enough to have multiple songs throughout the duration of the video how do you add and drag tracks to where you want them to start? Every time I add an additional track it does not give me the option to start it wherever I please, instead it just starts it at the beginning and will not allow me to drag it to a different part of the vid. If anyone knows what’s up help ya boy out!
Hey Cameron. Yeah, this is why I lean towards LumaFusion for a lot of my iOS editing these days. The issue with a song going right to the start is a pain. You can play around with the foreground/background audio which can help. Sometimes adding a background track for the whole song (from the start) then adding in foreground clips can work out. I should really to an updated video to cover more of this.
Thanks for your helpful videos! A problem I'm having: I'm creating iMovie projects on my iPad, and when I save an iMovie file outside of the iMovie folder on my iPad, or import the file to UA-cam directly from the iMovie folder, I lose the left/right stereo separation and end up with a mono audio track (which plays on both R and L channels). If I access the file within the iMovie folder, the iMovie app launches and the file plays with stereo separation just as it was recorded (using GarageBand iOS, exported as .wav). How do I retain stereo sound on the finished product from iMovie iOS for viewing/listening outside of the iMovie app?

Hi Pete and everyone else, just wondering with iMovie. Does anyone have the same problem - a song I put on iMovie and it only goes to 2:30 long. Is there a hidden special trick to this, as I’m trying to create a music album to put up on UA-cam Thx and Cheers - Ash
Hey there. Are you putting this over a static image? There is a 2:30 limit on images. You just need to add the image again and you can extend the audio.
So I screen recorded an audio clip but I want to add it in my video but I don’t know how to move it where I want it because it puts it at the beginning
I still cannot figure out when I add music it automatically plays from the beginning, how can i change it so the music starts at the lets’s say 50sec mark of the song? Thanks

Hey there. iMovie is not great when working with multiple clips or tracks. I would recommend checking out LumaFusion if you’re looking to use multiple tracks of audio.
Hey there. I use a great app called AudioShare. It’s a few dollars but well worth it. Just export your video then one in AudioShare and you can convert it to an audio file.
Hello, just wondering how i can like move the end of a song further through my video?? Where my music starts is the wrong point and it stops before its even supposed to start... Im tryna say how do i move the start time further back and the end time further back. Thanks!
That’s very strange? Are you scrolling all the way down? Sorry if that sounds obvious but even if you have no music on your device, you should get the soundtracks option?
I think this is my dilemma. I'm trying to edit and cut music to match video but I can't bc of DRM. The only solution is to edit the music separately then import into iMovie
Thank you so much . This was so informative and helpful.I was looking for this from so long even though I’m iPhone user 😂what a shame ..well thank you for making this video 🌸
Hey there. Thanks for the tip! I tend to use LumaFusion for a lot of my video editing on mobile these days and find it works well though is a little more expensive again. Will have to check this one out. 👍
Good question? Stop motion isn’t really a specialty of iMovie. I would go with something like this instead - apps.apple.com/au/app/stop-motion-studio-pro/id640564761

Hey there. Not quite sure what you’re asking sorry? You want to import your own music?
Pete Johns like how you get the music into your files
If you’re exporting to your Files app this video might help. ua-cam.com/video/C1zyo4IbI5w/v-deo.html
Pete Johns nvm thanks for trying tho😃
Can I use any music given under sound tracks? Is there any problem regarding copyright?
All of these are provided royalty free so can be used in your videos without copyright issues.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you sir for your immediate reply.
Can do u a voiceover while playing a song?
Good question? Haven’t actually tried this in iMovie sorry.
Yes u can I tried
I have my original background music but I wanted to add a second audio clip to add in my background and tips to do this?
Hey there. You can only have one “background” audio but can add multiple “foreground” audio clips.
Pete Johns thank you i appreciate it 🙌👍
How can I paste the full audio and not just the audio which stops at the end of the vid
You’ll need to change the audio mode from background to foreground.
If I am just using iMovie to create an audio podcast is there a way I can add background music in on top of the recordings?
Hey there. Yes, you should be able to add in both background and foreground audio on your projects.
🔥
How can I add only a specific part of a song, e.g. the hook.
For me it always starts at the beginning
You’ll need to set the audio to foreground and then trim the front.
this was so helpful thank you
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
I still cannot figure out when I add music it automatically plays from the beginning, how can i change it so the music starts at the lets’s say 50sec mark of the song? Thanks
Hey there. Make sure it’s foreground audio and then just trim from the start to the point you want it to start. ua-cam.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa57cqFSgU-Jz9XiV0NceYtyt.html
How to make my video portrait in imovie
Hey there. iMovie is really only designed to make landscape videos. You might need to explore something like LumaFusion
ua-cam.com/video/p506-m_URGU/v-deo.html
I actually found a way to make it portrait but I have to edit it 2 times in Imovie and normal iphone editor
Can you fade multiple audio clips?
Hey there. iMovie is not great when working with multiple clips or tracks. I would recommend checking out LumaFusion if you’re looking to use multiple tracks of audio.
can i add a video of mine that has audio ? like a screen recording but i just want the audio from it
You’d need to convert the video file to audio first. ua-cam.com/video/nu5XwAWps5E/v-deo.html
My issue is that once I split or trim the beginning changes! The song starts at a different place
Yup. Take a look at the background vs foreground audio there. Make sure it’s foreground.
How do u drag the audio?
You’ll sometimes need to first split the audio.
This is SO HELPFUL!!! Thank you. 🙂

how do you sync audio and video?
I use LumaFusion personally as it’s easier to line up waveforms. It is possible but a little trickier in iMovie.
how do i make a audio video into just an audio clip? So i can put it in notes and copy&paste it onto triller
Hey there. I use a great app called AudioShare. It’s a few dollars but well worth it. Just export your video then one in AudioShare and you can convert it to an audio file.
If it doesn’t let you click on your audio from your file does it mean it’s copyrighted? Thanks for the tips btw your video is really helpful!
It can mean that it’s copy protected or a format not supported. Check out this video for a little more info. ua-cam.com/video/A7bWMdMM9ls/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you!
How do you add audio from other videos you made into another video so that you could create a voiceover effect?
Hey there. I talked about some options for this in today’s live stream. ua-cam.com/video/eSzbS8t_XN8/v-deo.html
Pete Johns Ok, thank you!
Hello, just wondering how i can like move the end of a song further through my video?? Where my music starts is the wrong point and it stops before its even supposed to start... Im tryna say how do i move the start time further back and the end time further back. Thanks!
Hey there. You’ll need to change the audio form “background” to “foreground” mode.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Ahh okay, thank you!
Can i copy my piano recording in garageband to imovie im trying to sync my video to the audio
Yup. You can export as a WAV and then import in to iMovie.
Pete Johns thank you😊
I can’t even get the music and I don’t have a plus button we’re is it nvm
That’s odd? I’ll be releasing some more iMovie videos soon.
How can i attach an mp3 audio on my video?
Hey there. I cover audio in this video - ua-cam.com/video/VXYH-6jsHW0/v-deo.html
Thanks for the info..

Hi, I don’t see a folder that says Audio at 2:05 I only see Video, Photos and Albums. I use an iPhone 8 and I have iOS 13. Can some one help me?
That’s very strange? Are you scrolling all the way down? Sorry if that sounds obvious but even if you have no music on your device, you should get the soundtracks option?
@@PeteJohnsMusic I already fixed the problem, thanks for the great vid!🙏🏾👌🏾
this helped i’m starting my new channel you are a good youtube i subscribed :)
Awesome! So very glad to hear it. If you're looking for more help with iMovie, take a look at these videos - ua-cam.com/video/37t7oBujatw/v-deo.html
it says for me this music is DRM protected and cannot be used for this video
Maybe it is DRM protected? You can’t use music that has copy protection or digital rights management attached to it.
I think this is my dilemma. I'm trying to edit and cut music to match video but I can't bc of DRM. The only solution is to edit the music separately then import into iMovie
Whenever I try to add music it says that it’s “drm protected” is there anyway to fix this?
Not really. It means you can’t use it in your projects due to copyright. Try downloading some DRM free sounds.
how can you do it in a sñecific part in your video?
Not sure what that is sorry?
How do we apply a thumbnail or create one
Hey there. A thumbnail for a UA-cam video? I use Canva.com for all my design work. ua-cam.com/video/vqSgYffj50A/v-deo.html
Download youtube studio
Thank you so much . This was so informative and helpful.I was looking for this from so long even though I’m iPhone user 😂what a shame ..well thank you for making this video 🌸
You’re very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel and consider subscribing. 👍
Pete you should try iCute Cut pro, it’s a great app for Editing vids. It cost $10 or $11.
Hey there. Thanks for the tip! I tend to use LumaFusion for a lot of my video editing on mobile these days and find it works well though is a little more expensive again. Will have to check this one out. 👍
im trying to make a nascar stop motion and using a burnout sound how do i do that?
Good question? Stop motion isn’t really a specialty of iMovie. I would go with something like this instead - apps.apple.com/au/app/stop-motion-studio-pro/id640564761
