    Please do the Stan Smith Recon. They’re the “premium” version of Stan Smith and claimed to have all leather build. I really doubt that they have better value though, since they’re like $120 which is 50% more than the standard ones.

    • @MacBookAir-cu4fb
      @MacBookAir-cu4fb 4 роки тому +80

      I have a pair and I can assure you they are a 100% more premium! It’s absolutely 100% leather, everything you see and touch is leather. It’s no veg tan of course but super soft and good quality shoe leather! Also the Box you get with them is like a Gucci Box or so, super high quality and you really just want to put them on your shelve!
      I’ve had them for about 2,5 years already! They didn’t wear out at all and if you clean them once every while you will have them for years! And ive not always cared about them while wearing too much! I would buy them again immediately especially when they are on sale like I got mine for 110€ (otherwise 180€)
      If you like the really classic Stan smith shape and don’t want to spend like 400 bucks on some Italian shoes, go for them they are great!

    • @cabbie4788

      I agree, my pair is a special edition and has full leather build, no rolled edges, full leather interior. Very nice pair and has held up very well over 3 years for a $120 shoe.

    I used to wear these as actual tennis shoes (shoes my age), and it's great to see that they've stood the test of time for their classic looks. I'd get a couple months of wear at most while playing regularly, which was their original purpose, and they did it really well. Thanks for another excellent video!

    Stans have been a vey pleasant surprise. My wife got them for me about 3 years ago and honestly, they look almost brand new even though they are my go to pair when going pretty much everywhere. Just a deep clean with a tooth brush and a dump in the washing machine once a year and they go back to new. I haven’t have any problems with uneven pressure on the heels so far. Amazing value for money

    I think I've had three pairs of these in my life, going back to the eighties -- always the ones with the green heel tabs. There are two solid classic adidas designs in tennis shoes. The Stan Smiths and the Rod Lavers. As much as I understand the white sneaker trend (they look great), the green accents on the Smiths and Lavers are the distinctive markers. Seeing this shoe without the green was weird. Anyhoo, I'm glad you carved these up. Always wondered what they were like inside. The way that smiths wear in and develop stretch and gray patina has always been charming for me. Love this shoe, love the channel. Keep doing what you're doing!

    I have had these shoes for the past 4 and a half years and I‘ve worn them a lot, not every day but at least two or three times a week. I‘m suprised to hear that these shoes aren‘t supposed to last long and that the heel is supposed to wear down in a weird way. I can‘t confirm that at all. Yes, they are pretty worn out by now and yes they are not really white anymore and got a lot of scratches, but until this day they‘re my must have shoe on every city trip where I know I‘ll be walking a lot. If you use them for tennis on asphalt, then the soles at the toes wear down long before the upper of the shoe breaks apart. I also never had any problem with high and low spots in the heel, but that is where it eventually wore through into the cells inside. Over all though, for being a third to a fifth the price of the others, and the originator of the style, the Stan Smith is going to remain my go to sneaker I think.

    An excellent and interesting presentation here in the dissection of these Stan Smith sneaks! While probably not possible or feasible, it would be interesting to see how the original, first generation Stan Smith sneaks were constructed. My guess is that the real first generation sneaks were much better made.

    There are different varieties of Stan Smith. I bought a pair with a leather tongue and leather lined rear part of the shoe. Their price tag was closer to a hundred bucks though.

    Really enjoy this series! Grenson Sneaker 1 would be a good choice for a premium sneaker to rival the Common Projects. 🇬🇧 Have 2 pairs of them in suede and calf leather.

    I've been waiting for this video forever. I have a pair of continental 80s and I think they have a better leather than the stan smiths. Maybe do that in the future?
    Also would like to see the Superstar Shell toes as well as the Nike Air Force 1.

    I recently bought the vegan Stan Smith, fx5502. Everything looks nice and clean. However, when I checked the left shoe tag inside the tounge, it's made in Indonesia. While the right shoe is made in India. I contacted Adidas in my country (Philippines) and they said it's just tagging and inventory. They asked me about the quality, and I said the left and right shoe looks perfectly fine. Lastly, the left shoe has some minor dents and Adidas told me that it's just normal. I still have 30 days to decide if I will send back the shoe for a 100% refund.

      nah. There are much better quality all leather sneakers with lower price. WTF people always defending all these huge brands with millions of revenue while all they are doing is cutting cost SMH. I guess thats why these brands are so huge. Marketing is a very powerful tool to brainwash people.

      @@LSHD_ Stan Smiths are cheaply made, nowadays they're not even made out real leather, they use synthetic leather for the newer models and are overpriced for what you're getting. Reebok Club C, Nike Air Force 1, Van's Old Skool, Puma Suede give you more value for what you're paying in my opinion.
      The old Stan Smiths were great, today you're paying for brand name recognition to basically wear plastic shoes.

    • @LSHD_
      @LSHD_ 2 роки тому

      @@swordsaver that may be. But consumers aren’t interested in “value for money” in the terms you are describing. Their “value for money” is about the initial price point.
      Also Stan Smiths aren’t necessarily “over priced”. A pair here was purchased for under £45 with Adidas discount made it less. I highly doubt the others you’ve mentioned are “affordable quality”. Even then, there is the choice of consumers choice of design. Not all 35+ can rock a Nike Air Force, Vans, reeboks. Unless you’re of a particular demographic.

    • @swordsaver
      @swordsaver 2 роки тому

      @@LSHD_ You do realize that Stan Smiths aren't exactly cheap in every location? They can cost upwards to $130 dollars Canadian where I live. The ones I mentioned are actually cheaper and more affordable than the Stan Smiths by a large margin except for Air Force 1.
      Why pay for a plastic shoe when you get get a better quality sneaker that's more affordable and has an initial cheaper price point else where that's actually real leather?

    Thanks for this cut in half. I was bummed to see how crappy the sole was, but having had a couple of pairs of Stan’s the leather breaks down before the sole. A real pain to keep clean too. But for the price here in Australia they’re cheap enough to replace.

    Considering how the sole are build these shoes are suprisingly long lasting! Every pair of Stan Smith I owned were replaced after at least 6 years of almost daily use, just because the leather was crappy looking and couldn't be recovered that much. But the comfort? Always on point, I used them also on trips where I walked several km per day without the minimum discomfort. amazing!

    Couple points I would like to add. The leather might be a top grain but it is also still likely a split, likely the grain was taken off for other uses that that require a thinner full grain leather leaving behind a bit of the grain for this leather. As well on the insoles they are likely punched out by the same punch then just flipped over for the other foot.

    Loved the video but when you say they might not last as long, I've had a couple of pairs of Stan Smith's and both pairs have lasted well over a year with me wearing them everyday near enough for 5-8 hours a day. Even then the only issue was the shows not looking great, I never really cleaned them and the sole started to come away from the uppers, which could be fixed easily. So I say the last a good while, especially for the price
