Huawei’s Triple-Fold Phone Is a Joke: Obscures Entire Head When Calling, Tech May Be Stolen

- On September 10th, Huawei launched its first triple-fold phone, the Mate XT Extraordinary Master, which excited many patriotic 'little pinks.' However, this phone soon became the subject of various online jokes. People said it could cover your face while making calls or that holding it feels like carrying a brick. Others commented that it looked more like an imperial edict than a phone for everyday use. But among all the criticisms, one stood out as the most sarcastic.
On the evening of September 13th, Zhou Hongyi, founder and chairman of the 360 Group, posted a video on Weibo. In the video, he compared Huawei’s triple-fold Mate XT to the iPhone 16, saying Huawei's hardware innovation was far ahead of Apple’s. He added, "Whether you’re pretending to make a call to hide your awkwardness or using it to cover your instant noodles, Huawei's phone is more useful."

The last phone they made had the camera running 24/7 so that it would see QR scanners and automatically provide a QR code to access your bank account. Thing is that it would work with just a picture, so a scammer could tape the picture of a scanner to the back of their phone, run the camera and swipe it over your phone and now they have access to your bank account.
Covering your hot noodles with your phone is a stellar idea.

Samsung may not have a tri folding screen out, but the Z-fold came out in 2019 and is on iteration 6 now. I have two coworkers and a friend that have had them for over 3 years with no issues, but some people are harder on phones then others I guess.
@@lycos888 And how many tri-folds have actually been sold? Those 3 million plus pre-orders that made the news had no money put down. They could also be cancelled. Samsung isn't going to release a device that sells only a few thousands in a year.

@@iamslf that's actually my guess as well, but i find the Huawei route a lot more appealing. Also it's crazy to me that the mate XT is already a finished product and no mere prototype. Like the rollable thing will be just as vulnerable, just as expensive to produce, will never be a proper tablet and is even less tested than folding devices. If that's really what they're betting on then that's quite the gamble imo. Samsung really built a cult following with their foldables just to then leave us alone :)
@@Terrorbrot at the end of the day, i think these are all just proof of concepts for a more well rounded product down the road, even the foldable devices already out. slab phones still dominate, not purely because of cost, since there are now flips that are relatively affordable, but because foldables don’t really offer anything new to the mass market outside of niche use cases. i think battery tech is what’s holding back advancement, because the idea is to make these devices as malleable as paper. the components outside of the battery are now small enough to have a device that can be crumpled. batteries are still solid. that’s the problem.
I've never used my galaxy fold unfolded to make a call. You always close it.
Think about the extra thickness from the third screen and how it might be holding next to the ear.
@@nguyep4 um the mate XT is essentially the same thickness as a fold 6, so yea. I'm still on the fold 2 wich is a lot thicker than the Huawei and I'd rather hold something narrow but thick than something thin but wide when doing calls. Might be just me tho

Samsung scrapped it for good reason. Anything with moving parts is going to have problems.
Old flip phones were really durable even the really thin razr it's the foldable screens that ultimately keep me away

Its more about the outdated tech being used rather than the design which has some good features. Its a lot of money for a phone with a processor thats several years out of date.

For all the Edsels Huawei keeps kicking out they did actually make some decent tech. I have a Huawei Media Pad M6 8.4 from 2019 and it STILL works flawlessly and sounds great.
The main problem with Huawei is that it was found their products have a back door for the CCP in 2020. Also since then, Taiwan/ROC has largely taken over semiconductor production (TSMC), them and other producers keep the better chip tech from the PRC (as the CCP wants to use that stuff for their military and their CEO got in trouble for giving tech to Iran violating international law).

That actually looks really amazing. I tried a foldable phone once and didn’t care much for odd feel between sections and I question its longevity.

I was gaming on this phone during my trips, it’s actually pretty cool for business people who travels. This phone isn’t cheap, but quality feels OK. Again it’s for people who could afford and enjoying the new tech. No bias here.

Person like me who wants a large folding phone knows what they are getting size wise, but I'd be more concerned about the processor performance . . . . And ccp back doors

A very detailed analysis of the new Chinese product. My major concern is that it looks fragile. It is not practical to open it in public seatings, not to mention its weight. The operation system is not popular outside China. The chip is not up to date and it’s a luxury product. The durability is in doubt also.
