New Coffee with Ola - this time with PER NILSSON! Subscribe if you like!
With that glasses, you look like professor Ola englund, your nerd twin bro .
Don’t forget to put him in your closet when you’re done!
You look good in glasses
I love Ola The Ultimate Fanboy Edition. 😁
Sweet new vid bud, i think what would be cool is if maybe ur guests play a little more guitar, maybe even if they brought their signature guitar and also played yours and maybe do a compairison? just a thought ... keep doing what you do because i enjoy drinking my coffee in the morning playing my guitar and watching your vids, its kinda like old guys watching the news lol
The dude blinks in 13/7. :)
All in good fun. He's a cool dude.
Now that you said it :D
@19:50 : Ola : "I've never felt that theory was necessary" while looking straight in the eyes of Per Nilsson. Priceless
Meshuggah saved my life, I went through a very heavy time in my life, and found them in the middle of this mental hell
Can't imagine what living in south america is like, hang in there, ese
Whey are you two lying on the floor in a weird sitting position?
Haliwood Productions They’re clearly upside down
Can't unsee...
It's guitar yoga
So nice hahaha fake coffee with an magnetic cup and the camera at the ceiling. That’s the good way to interview.
It's propably just a scandinavian thing to do.
Must be weird talking to a fellow swede in English
It happens all the time in Sweden :D
is like...i was talkin in english to an spanish guy...and im from Peru 🇵🇪, so...when we realise that we started talkin spanish
yes, ometimes. I work at Volov and at every meeting, where there is a non-swedsih speaking attendee, and the rest is Swedish, the meeting is held in english. :)
@@ericvalverderosado2046 it's way more common in Sweden
Well, Spaniards sound funny, so you may as well kept talking in English! lol
@@ericvalverderosado2046
Ola : There is no rockstar in the Violin universe.
Paganini : Hold my beer..
Oh know that's right.
Paganini’s dead.
For those who keep bringing up the guy who’s been dead for 200 years: why not Martin Powell? Jan Hammer?
Jean Luc Ponty, Jerry Goodman
Nigel Kennedy
Per is a wizard on guitar. He also looks like a wizard with that beard.
"I'm telling you!" Don't argue with Ola, especially when he is complimenting you. Awesome interview!
Coffee with Devin Tonwsend please. :)
Tetanus forBreakfast Yess! It would be comedy diamonds infused with gold and platinum
yes! Devin and ziltoid love their coffee
This!!! Please yes Devin Townsend.... He is Canadian but at the moment in the UK so would be great to catch him ;-)
"Make it perfect"
Yes!!! That should be awsome
love devin
Coffee with Jesper Stromblad!
Please, God, yes
Sweeds really have the coolest nanes
Yes
That would be sweet
Now COFFEE WITH FREDRIK THORDENDAL PLEASEEE
It moves
@@Torniojaws nice
is frederik gonna play with meshuggah again ?
omg yes! :D
@@theolajide exactly my question. Meshuggah is playing in my town in july 2020. This guy is awesome but c´mon i want frederik : ( i dont even know why he is out? do you know?? probably family stuff?
Ola asking awkward questions. Priceless.
"No, but I'm telling you."
That encapsulates great musicians better than any other string of words can.
I could listen to Per playing for hours... Probably one of the best metal guitarist right now !
Ya I know those choice of notes and scales were amazing lot of melody very nice smooth touch . 👍
Per's legato is PERfect
Pär-fekt
Holy shit, didn't expect to see an interview with the man Per Nilsson himself here, the dude's resonsible for some of my all-time favorite albums with Scar Symmetry. An absolute guitar legend in my book. Great stuff, Ola!
Same here man!
What is the name of that Nocturnal Rite song that they showed a clip of at the beginning of this video?
Morphogenesis
Kaspar Marius Jota
” The Illusionist”
“Slaves to the Subliminal “
Pitch Black Progress and its next-level guitar work changed my musical outlook on life.
Shame Scar Symmetry is in the toilet now.
I like Meshuggah in my coffee.
Watching this again....I also remember buying the John Petrucci Guitar Discipline on VHS....and Eric Johnson on VHS.....after following the Petrucci VHS Tape my playing improved so much....especially my speed playing....so I combined both....got the melodies down with Eric tape and speed down with Petrucci....I'd still recommend these videos to players now....
Devin Townsend is coming to Stockholm in March. You HAVE to get him on this series!
Thank you. I cannot emphasize this enough. Thank you Per Nilsson's dad, for putting a guitar on his lap. Thank you again. Btw... Thank you.
Per has been a FB friend for years hes a VERY nice guy and friendly. What a monster guitar player.
Per is an absolute monster, such a fan of his music! Thank you Ola for this series❤️❤️❤️
Awesome to see two of my favorite musicians sit down and talk - thanks Ola!
I met Per at Graspop metal meeting and he is a super nice person and he was happy to see all the fans while others in meshuggah didnt move a muscle, i think its important to be like him because he is such a role model.
I agree with you. I met Per (and SCAR SYMMETRY) at Rennes (France) in 2015. I spoke with them before the show, after their show, many pictures and words with them. Just AMAZING guys !
how about Fredrik himself for the next interview?
Ola would be on his knees all the day
That would be sick.
I don't think Fredrik likes interviews, but that would be sweet
Fredrik has done only 2 interviews ever. One on Swedish radio and one with Marten interviewing him in Swedish. I don't think he wants to do interviews in English. But Marten said Fredrik doesn't really like doing interviews at all. (I know there was that Guitar World video where he said like 2 sentences in English, wasn't much of an 'interview')
@@Salomon_G Think it was the Guitar World "Bleed" playthrough where one of the only things he says is; "It..... Move...."
Man, I just went off the deep end watching videos of Per improvising. What a beast!
Yes! Per was my first option of this new coffee interview section, amazing Ola!
Perfect timing to sit down with a coffee
Per is my favorite guitar player of all time. He can play literally anything and make it sound incredibly beautiful.
AW I was hoping desperately for a session with Per. All my dreams have come true. Bless you, Papa Ola
Such a sweet, modest and nice guy... and what an AWESOME musician!!! Good job with the interview Ola!
Per's beard is how I imagine an axe-wielding Dwarfs beard would look.
Two amazing Swedes! I started out with music at about 10 years of age with a little keyboard I got for Christmas. I would listen to anything...Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Pink Floyd...and try to figure out melody by ear. 9th grade came and I was taking piano lessons at school. I always had a guitar around with my dad's acoustic so I would plunk around with it as if it were a bass, finding root notes and eventually figure out minor melody. Once I got my first electric guitar in 10th grade, I wood-shedded every chance I got. I would learn the basics of whole Metallica songs within 3-4 cycles and would then work on the technical or more difficult parts. I moved on to bands like Iced Earth, Nevermore, Soilwork, Symphorce, HammerFall and Stratovarius as I got to my late teens and early 20s. I'm still just a rhythm player at 36, but ALWAYS think of whole song structures. Any melodic passages or harmonies are whistled out to bring my ideas forth. Much like Per, when I'm not playing, the music doesn't stop in my head.
Eric Ellis there’s nothing wrong with being a rhythm my friend, although I can play lead parts, I play rhythm in my bad because I just like playing it better, it makes me feel like
I’m the root and gives me more confidence when I play. There is nothing wrong with being a rhythm guitarist!
I love Per, he is such a class dude. So down to earth and humble. One of my favorite musicians.
Met per at a guitar show years ago. My jaw is still on the floor at how good he is.
It's inspiring as hell to see someone who has been a part of so many amazing songs and riffs go through the same thing I went through, sounds like Per had a bad case of tendonitis, that shit sneaks up on you then repeatedly kicks the shit out of you for months or years. I had a time in my life extremely similar to what he described, having trouble doing normal household things, have to be slow and meticulous in your approach and take a lot of breaks to rest and avoid pain as much as possible. Years later there are still lingering affects that come and go but thankfully I have recovered from that bullshit... It was an accumulation of bad sleep patterns and diet, overplaying guitar, working out, etc. Hope you all stay as healthy as can be for as long as possible!
Love this segment! Much love from Manila! Keep 'em coming, Ola!
My absolutely fav guitarist. Love what he does with Scar Symmetry.
It's so refreshing to have two people talking and keeping it interesting for a full hour!
Coffee with Mattias IA Eklundh!
That would be awesome!
tackgärna
That would be awesome!!
Oh please yes. This would be such a cheerful and amusing interview.
Yes! Coffee with IA would be awesome.
Thank you for getting a guitar in his hands! More of that in the Coffee With series, please. Solar, their own brand, whatever, but it's fantastic hearing guitar playing during the interview. Love it!
That was so good! Per has always been a massive influence!
Thanks for this, Ola. Per is top 5 guitarists for me. Great to hear his story and perspectives!
Per is an amazing guitarist! His sense of melody in his improvisation is superb!
He attacks
He defends
But most importantly
IT MOVES
Thanks for all the music and culture over there through the years. Huge and tremendously talented Sverige
It's so amazing to hear him talking about playing through Fred's rig. I just love the nuance players need to feel out their sound. He thought it sounded harsh but hearing it through Fred's hands and it just sounds right. Great interview
Theory is essential in musical development but a riff sounding good to your ear is way more important!! It's like having a map but you should never neglect your instinct of wondering
I'd like your comment 50 times if I could
great interview, loved the part about theory, ive asked myself that question many times
I could see this over and over. Ola, I'm loving this "Coffee with..." videos.
Very liberating and rare to see anyone paying Yngwie the respect he truly deserves, thanks!
finally a man of truth telling words: "the pickups should be pink" YES
This series is your best idea since solar guitars. Looking forward to more.
Love love love this video. Per is one of my all time favorite guitarist
Yes! Been excited for this
I've been playing for over 20 years and I have never developed my ears more than being able to transcribe basic melodies with relative pitch (like happy birthday, national anthem, the wedding march, london bridge, etc) I've always had access to tabs and I would sit with the tabs (no guitar) and listen to the song on the cd. I'd quickly be able to determine if it's something I could play and if the tabs looked accurate enough to be able to work my way through it.
I've recently tried to slow down songs and transcribe them but there is just too much going on most of the time for me to be able to get it right. I can typically get the a melody that fits in the chord progression and it sounds good when playing along, but then I look at the tabs and find out I only had 1/2 of what was going on.
In that sense, I do think the modern generation is lacking in ear training. It is a great skill to hear something being played and be able to replicate it and ultimately harmonize and or emphasize what is being played with your lead playing to bring the overall musicality of your band to the next level.
''I don't play 6 strings a lot''- ''You're doing it right now'' Ola is quick af XD
Such an amazing player. I had the chance to see him live with Meshugah and his solo on Bleed was something you hardly forget.
This one was so so good . The deep conversations were on point
_When you think that things cannot be more Yngwie, they get more Yngwie._ lol
Rising force album. Is in my opinion one of the greatest albums ever made. And also the Marching out album is great to. True classic metal albums.🙂\m/
Per are really as you say Ola, one of the best we have.
Love this guy! One of my favourite guitarists for sure.
Hey Ola ! You should make your videos also available in audio podcasts. This is really the type of thing I could listen to while driving or doing other stuff !
Thanks for the good work !
I would tune into that
yes
yes
exactly
yes
right
awesome interview Ola! You both seemed really comfortable and it was awesome to see two of my favorite guitarists having an hour long conversation! cheers man!
Totally relate to Ola just watching and smiling in the intro. Hard not to just appreciate Per's paying up close .
50:20 Per playing.
Jean Luc Ponty is the rockstar of violinists
Such a good interview, love it. Per is a legend!
- "Whenever I hear a song on the radio, I often find myself improvising on top of it"
- OH SHIT!
The moment you realize Per Nilsson is from another planet!
skyrim belongs to the nords
Skyrim belongs to the wolves because they're everywhere
Have you heard of the elder scrolls?
SHREDUGGAH!
Discovered Scar Symmetry many years ago. Per immediately became one of my favorite players. I was hoping you'd have him on. Great interview 👍
one of the best interviews I've seen on UA-cam.
Fredrik akesson in next interview? Or maybe Mikael himself
That would be great!
Mikael is way too reclusive and busy. Fredrik though yes.
Omfg please... excellent recommendation, seeing Ola with Opeth would be the greatest thing
@@RohannvanRensburg What? Mikael does interviews all the time.
@@Salomon_G True, but it's usually pre-show at a venue by a journalist. I would love if he did it here, but almost every interview I've seen has been either with journalists they have longstanding relationships with, or at a venue.
The female interviewer is very nice and competent... oh no, wait... hi Ola! 😂
A superb interview. Two very talented musicians and equally beautiful human beings. 🤘
Really enjoyed this! Per seems like such a calm, cool dude.
I must be living under the rock to know that Per is in Meshuggah right now lol
Just for touring I think!
same here!
I was today years old
He's just filling in
maybe this will give fredrik a chance to write some new material. fucking nonstop touring.
“This guy records at a lower speed this is impossible”
Lucan Mann has left the chat
Best EVER!! love Per...so talented
What a talented player this guy...nice tovsee him talking with you...he is as modest as iconic.
a newborn giraffe is less awkward than this interview
ive only watched 2 minutes and fuck me it is so awkward ahahaha
Well, you could tell right from the beginning that this dude wasn’t prepared at all. He didn’t even know this guy way coming it was even on his fukn site before. Wow.
Because they both talk the same language but they are communicating in other language
@@Im_Still_LightSpeedLayne "this dude" looool
Paganini was a violin rock star.
Violin rock stars only happen once in a century
!
Ne Oblivscaras
My man the fucking Vivaldi
100% rock star!!
Love this new series man. Thanks!
So glad you got per in for a coffee ☕️ top bloke and full on guitar wizard 🧙♂️
So what about making the next 14day challenge about basic theory and improvisation? Maybe jam to an instrumental track and see where everyone is in 14 days
51:06 sounds so much like "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson :P
His story is SO inspirational to me. I haven't really practice/played/written music in so long that it's really getting to me. Since I was a teenager, I've always been told I'm an exceptional player, though the doubts will always cloud my mind, and being almost 29 myself, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you Ola for everything you and your guests do. Much love. ❤
I’m really enjoying these episodes. Keep it up! 🤘🏼
Scar Symmetry is still one of my most favorite acts. Also - Ola with glasses looks a bit like Mia Khalifa.
😂😂😂
I'am drinking coffee while I'am watching this... Cheeers dudes!!! \m/
Glad that you heard it, looks much better !
Great interview
I got my first Strandberg Boden 8 Metal a month ago. First guitar I've owned in about 10yrs. Never looking back.
"No strings attached - well, it did have string attached", lol :D
This guy's lead playing sounds exactly like Allan Holdsworth and that is amazing.
Absolutely..
I know that's right.
These kind of videos are like gold for me man, i'm learning a lot! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!
Love this Dude, He looks like the "Roaming Gnome" traveling from band to band & bringing the Fire with him!
