Looks outstanding! It’s almost exactly the style I’m doing for my 2014 FX4/FX Appearance. I’m going to go with a flame red stripe on the flat piece (it’s about 1/4” wide) all the way around, and also may use red for the honeycomb portion. The black will be the parts outside of the letters and maybe the beveled edges of the lettering. Same idea with the clear coat and probably using clear rock guard on the whole grille since I occasionally encounter small rocks on the highways where I live (we get lots of snow and gravel/sand is used for traction in winter).
Super helpful video! I just ordered a new grill that I intend to paint black. The grill is currently chrome. Would scuffing the chrome be enough before using adhesion promoter, paint, and clear or do i need to somehow fully remove the chrome first? Thanks again for the video!
Yeah you can paint over the Chrome just stuff up everywhere u gonna paint , yeah it would be too much work if you try to remove that Chrome off the grill
so you can get away with just prepping then using adhesion promotor, then go straight to paint? Didnt know if the adhesion promotor acts as a primer itself. Plan on colormatching a similar grill, as well as some chrome plastic trim
I seen others video of shops doing bumper that are plastic straight to paint and they say it's fine , but some guys prim it be for, I haven't had a problem with it so far
@@josha7548 Talked to a buddy that is in autobody for toyota, he said sand then paint would be fine for bare plastic like this, and to sand and prime chrome trim. Might just prime to be on the safe side
Depending what color you're wanting to go, If you want it black you can use trim paint or Plasti dip , If you're trying to get it to match your car you'll have to have some paint made for you
If you are going to paint it yes same steps but I don't know if they have a chrome paint, I know they have spray cans and the cap looks Chrome but when it sprays out it's just a silver.... maybe getting it wrapped, I know they have that in a Chrome look
Hey man I painted my Chevy 1500 grill but I got the wrong color, now I need to get the paint off before I paint again for the correct color. What steps would you recommend me to do?
You can let the paint dry for a Couple days And paint over it, You can use a 400 grit or a maroon Scotch-Brite , But you're going to want to Put light coats Of paint And let dry for 5 to 10 minutes each coat .... If you spray on too heavy or wet The paint can react and wrinkle up , from the previous paint
You can put two or three coats of clean , just wait like 10 minutes in between each coat , if you already did that and you're letting it dry and wanting to put more coats on top of that you want to wait a few days and then you can sand it with 800 wet sand paper and reclear again
But if you're going to do that make sure you throw a light coat of clear and Let dry for good 15 minutes , if you put the first clear coat on too heavy you can get a reaction from the paint and it will wrinkle up
It should last for years if it's garage kept , if your car is outside in the direct sun u might get 10 years out of it before it starts to show sun damage

I want to paint the chrome grille on my truck. What kind of spray paint should I use ? Or what will look best ?

I used 180 grit to start but I’m using primer filler and primer sealer after the adhesion promoter is this good or bad
Yeah , along as u put it on the plastic , that will help it bond to the plastic better
Nice job ,,,you also mentioned sealer ..Is it necessary to use sealer and if so is it applied after applying promoter ?
Thanks man , No u don't have to use sealer, just sand, degrees then use promoter and then paint

Thx buddy !

What grit sand paper did he use?
I think 600 , but u can use 800 to
can i paint it with spray cans instead of a paint gun?
Yeah
5-10 minutes in between base and clear coat sprays?
Yeah , depending how the weather is, Im in Phoenix so it's hot most of the time
Random question but did you sand in between each layers of paint when it dried?
No , only sand before you spray any Adhesive Promoter or paint

How long did you wait when sanding the clear coat and giving it another coat?

What did you use to sand it (that maroon pad)? Is there a grit number on it, and where did you get it at?
It's a maroon Scotch-Brite scuff pad it's about 400 Grit they also have a gray scotch pad that is about 600 to 1000 Grit more fine
what grit sandpaper was that?
800 grit Scotch-Brite pad, u can also use 600 grit
How long would the paint last?
It should last for years if it's garage kept , if your car is outside in the direct sun u might get 10 years out of it before it starts to show sun damage
No primer?
You could if you want if you put a primary. You're gonna have to send the primer when it's dry
Nice! How much did you charge?
I had just charged him $80
