I’m with him, never did care for all this flat paint on vehicles now days. Guess I’m old school. I love shiny paint and shiny chrome. Thanks for the tips.
THANKS FOR SHARING,I have used BULLDOG adhesion promoter in the past with good results.Modern plastics seem less prone to melt and crack than say old 750 Honda sidecovers.Lots of modern products available to make it easier to get good results.I will try to show the promoter next plastic I paint.AGAIN THANKS ! Windy
i never painted gutters but try a small test to see how paint sticks first. SAND first, prime with primer sealer, paint with outdoor brush is probably best?
I know this video is old BUT personally I wouldn't mind longer videos. UA-cam and online forums is where I learn so much from so the more time I spend watching your informational video the less time I have to watch all the useless crap on here thats trending. Anyways, thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
I never thought of using an sos pad. I just so happened to buy some yesterday and i need to prep an original ps3 so I'll definitely be trying this technique. Trying to make it look professional.
Thanks, good info! I put new plastics on a 1986 Honda Helix. But the floor, step through parts are flat and ugly. I was wondering how to clean them up, prepping for paint.
Super helpful video! Q: What do you use if your plastic has deep gouges or pitts in it? What do you fill it with that sticks to plastic AND the paint?? Thank you!
Im so mad right now I found out older bathtubs in mobile homes, were injection molded with ABS PLASTIC then they turn the mold over and they add fiberglass and resin and call it a tub. So if one doesn't know this your going to become so passed youll want to put it outside for a play pool or use it as a pond. Just an FYI
CLEAN WITH SIMPLE GREEN OR DE GREASER LIKE ACETONE TO AVOID FISH EYES. IF YOU CAN LIGHTLY PRIME WITH SEALER PRIMER ODDS ARE GOOD YOU PAINT WILL STICK AND LAYOUT WELL. SEVERAL LIGHT COATS BETTER THAN ONE THICK ONE.GOOD LUCK.

RINSE IF POSSIBLE IN EXTREME DIRT CONDITIONS I WOULD ALSO STEAM CLEAN AND USE A GOOD DEGREASER LIKE PREPALL. I WILL BE STARTING SOME REALLY OLD CARBON FIBER PARTS IN TWO WEEKS AND WILL GO THRU ALL THE STEPS ON THE NEW VIDS IN 4K.
Hi.. I am a new home owner. Can I paint these vinyl gutters to my liking? What paint should I use? Should I use paint brush or roller? Please let me know.
Holmes be ALL over the place.. from what he does, what you should do, what they used to do, stacking decks somewhere.. what he might do.. (on a molecular level.) Lol.
Kerosene? That stuff has paraffin wax in it. Try wet sanding with 3M Wet Sanding Sponges, 400 grit. Wash, use electrical contact cleaner or brake cleaner, then adhesion promoter, color paint and finally clear it! Wet sand from 1000 grit to 3000 grit and finally, a high quality polish. FYI, polishing compounds range from 800 grit to about 2500, they might make a finer one too.
I just stumbled on your videos, seem like a real genuine guy! Got my Respect dude! Keep doing your thing loved that basic editing thing you threw in there lol, don't worry your doing great man!
Well done 👍 & liked.. I have an old laptop back case to spray paint black tomorrow.. and it's a lil dusty.. For pre cleaning, should I wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol or just plain warm water with mild detergent before spraying paint.. what do you suggest? Also is a primer spray mandatory which I don't have at hand?
so.. here I am in central Australia a gizillion miles from a paint supplier. I have acrylic left over from doing the 4WD, clearcoat, primer and thinners. And I wanna repaint my fairings. So I'm thinking.. as long as I clean the existing paint like hell with soap and water after I sand it back very very thoroughly to get an adhesive surface.. so it's spotless and super "keyed".. then prime it.. without too much thickness.. then do a lot of coats of top.. then a lot of clearcoat. I might get a finish that doesn't peel or chip. Am I wrong? It seems to me all these videos say the same thing - clean clean clean. Is that enough? After all paint is a plastic and as long as it sticks to the object it should work. In theory.. :) Or do I need an "adhesive" layer? What do you think?
Thanks for the info. I've got a plastic truck grille panel to strip and repaint. I wonder if that Bulldog stuff would work instead of primer on my styrene plastic model car bodies.
For plstic Surface clean Then surface prep such as sanding Then surface wash including rubbing Alcohol Then it's appropriate primer for plastic that would be a plastic acrylic primer however many coats whilst allowing suffiecent drying time between coats But then we come to is there a spray on undercoat that's required? Top coat 1-2 coats allow suffiecent curing time between coats even wet sand between coats even necessary Then after final top coat I'd use a clear cost protective spray it takes 3 days to dry but it gives a bit more durability to top cost finish
Great vid. Thanks! Could you do a vid on painting a swingarm? Ive got the beautiful 02 CBR954RR. Red, black, gunmetal came stock and i love it.... Except the only thing (besides rotors&forks) on the bike that doesn't match is the bright silver swingarm!
CLEAN PART SIMPLE GREEN,SAND 400,PRIMER SEALER,not primer,PRIMER SEALER.That should seal and bond any plastic and get it ready for paint of your choice.
Great video, very informative! In the middle of restoring a 2008 Kawisaki 750 and want to change paint colors. Should I sand down to the black thermo-plastic and start new or can the existing surface be sanded and then prepped? Thank you!!!
Is there anything that you would change from this video? For example would you use any of the new paints that state minimal prep and no primer is needed?
does this primer work for all plastic? PP? HDPE?...ABS?...issue is i got hard plastic part and paint doesnt stick to that....its not an auto part...im thinking to use this as a try...
I want to spray paint a plastic bin container. What do I have to put on first to make it stay? Every time I do it, the paint peels off the container please help😩😩😩
@@NoWr2Run the sanding or scuffing before paint is a great way to get paint to adhere and STAY! I was thinking something like acetone before spray paint as well. Going to do an old plastic toy box today. Kids are rough on those lol
What about undercoat I've looked to see if there's any appropriate spray on undercoat for plastic but there's hardly owt out there which tells me it's not necessary unless anyone can tell me different pls feel free
Get a few sheets of each & experiment, his plastic had texture to it, NOT SMOOTH. Paint will fill in the very small scratches of 400 or 600 grit. Make sure you get WET/DRY SANDPAPER AUTOMOTIVE STUFF.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. Now, what if I want to paint some plastic parts which already painted. Should I sandpaper it all the way down to raw plastic? or I can just scuff the old paint? and if I scuffed it, should I use primer before the the new paint?

Brittney. I used to paint cars for a living, and we use to ALWAY use bulldog adhesion promoter on all plastic parts and it worked great.
Came for the prep, enjoyed the music and conversation
My heartfelt mercy for you dealing with embedded mold release compound. It leaches up to the surface over time and bubbles the paint.
If your going to paint anything, listen to Windy. Nobody has decades of experience that can hold a light to this man.

ONE OF MY OBJECTIVES IS NOT LEAVE OUT STEPS, SOME VIDEOS GET LONG BUT ALL THE INFO IS THERE FOR SERIOUS SUBSCRIBERS TO OUR CHANNEL.
EITHER WAY SHOULD WORK BUT ETCH SAND AND CLEAN OARE THE MOST IMPORTANT. SCRUBBING WITH SOS PADS WET CAN WORK TOO.
Do you use the adhesion promoter and then also add a primer or does the adhesion promoter work as the primer and you skip straight to paint next?

Another old trick was to use actual clear coat as an adhesion promoter. It bonds like crazy.
Thanks for the video really really enjoyed it! :) Gonna give it a whirl on my Yamaha RD250LC I'm starting to restore.
ANY BRAND PRIMER SEALER,DUPONT,RUSTOLEUM,DUPLICOLOR,must as SEALER primer.

Sanding it down to create a profile, so primer adheres then apply finish👍👍
Well put inteligente, piece of knowledge. Right on.

If I have a spray can that has Primer already in it( like rust - oleum) do I still need to use the "bulldog adhesion promoter???
Great videos man! Good information and well delivered! Thanks!
You forgot the flame treatment, it is required to get the OEM mold release agents out of the plastic surface.
Only lacquer adheres chemically to the previous dried coats. All other paints adhere to the dull abraded surface.
Can you use a grey primer on bike plastic?

What about wiping down with acetone?
I prefer soap, less harsh on my skin 😂
