Great seeing Mick again. I used to hate him in Juniors when he played for Spokane. He was always entertaining on the ice when he played against my Portland Winterhawks. Great memories.
Avid Ranger fan but Mick was a tough bastard, I remember him opening up Jay Wells face along the boards before the Kocur, Domi years. Glad to see he is doing well
As a 8 or 9 year old kid growing up a Ranger fan in the early 90s, Vukota and Bomber were like real life monsters/boogeymen to me. We had nobody to answer to them until Kocur and Domi.
@@FullChangePodcastBomber held his own and more with Kocur and Domi. But Kocur maybe the meanest player in the game. And Domi best inch for inch- he was listed at 5’10” but he was probably 5’8”.
Couldn’t agree more with this comment. Hated both Bomber and Vukota. Vukota such a dirty player and the rivalry just made it that more intense for me to hate that guy.
As a NY Ranger since 1979, it used to really bother me when Vukota would more often than not kick the crap out of whatever Ranger he could get ahold of. While I never forgave his attack on Bloomberg in the 1990 playoffs, the fact is that he was one of the elites of his era. His body-slam press was a thing of beauty and the truth is I hated him because of the jersey wore. He never looked right in Montreal or Tampa Bay. He was an Islander true and true. Glad he's well and I thank him for sacrificing his body to keep the rivalry alive.
Vukota always had Domi's number in those fights but on flip side Domi has Baumgartner's numberback in that late 80s up to 1994 intense Rangers/Isles feud.
@Full Change Podcast: As a Rangers fan, I hated him and especially Bomber. I went to a game at the Coliseum where Mick and Berube tried to fight 4 times before finally being tossed. Also met him one night on Northport, NY at a bar called Napper Tandy’s and was able to shake his hand. Just a regular guy with his name on a plaque in the place for drinking 100 pints of Guinness. Nobody ever mentions it but he had a hat trick one game too I believe.
one of my favorite times in hockey was when Mick and Baumgartner were on the same line, they scared the other teams too bad you can't build a team like that anymore .
True. If you look at his penalty minutes across his career, they fell off a cliff midway through it because a lot of people didn't want to fight him anymore lol Dude was just mean and nasty and he didn't give two sh*ts if you got knocked tf out.
Canadian Welterweight Boxing Champ Donnie Poole was brought into one of those camps to train the players in Boxing....Everyone was cool with him except....... Dwight Schofield.....long story short Sconan challenged Donnie to get in the ring and in front of the whole team, coaches, management, owners? Was KOed with the first punch Donnie threw at him.... when Scofiekd woke up he was furious and wanted to get even......well......the very next punch Poole threw at him knocked Schofield COLDER than a Cucumber....5'6" 147lbs lays out 6'2" 235 twice with only 2 punches thrown. 100% TRUTH!!
@@mikeb6135 oh we played hockey too? I take it back then. What you get the point. Boxers are boxers and hockey players are fighters. On land boxers will always win.
I forgot to add that it was the Washington Capitals training camp and the whole team and management excitingly gathered to see watch this challenge. So Scott Stevens might remember this.
no respect for this dude...punched Jay Wells right in the face when he had both his arms tied up by a linesman...he was tough but that was a horseshit move
Vukota wasn’t one of the top heavyweights, a willing combatant, but not like Baumgartner. And Honestly, Schoefield may have been ripped but on the ice, also not one of the top heavyweights.

The tension and anxiety must have been extreme for sure. Awesome story. Loved Vukota 👍
fun story... i was a fan during the vukota/ baumgartner years of the isles... nice to see mick doing well

Mick is an awesome storyteller. What a guy.
He really is! Hated him as a player - but he is a good dude. As are most of these guys.
As a 8 or 9 year old kid growing up a Ranger fan in the early 90s, Vukota and Bomber were like real life monsters/boogeymen to me. We had nobody to answer to them until Kocur and Domi.
Absolutely. They were nasty but Kocur and Domi were next level. Give the full episode a listen it was a great show with Mick!
@@FullChangePodcastBomber held his own and more with Kocur and Domi. But Kocur maybe the meanest player in the game. And Domi best inch for inch- he was listed at 5’10” but he was probably 5’8”.
Before Domi and Kocur we had Nilan and Poeschek. The problem was they were hurt a lot and not in many games.

Mick was a tough dude , i remember when he fought Kocur when he was on the Rangers
Love the Isles hat.
Awesome! Had no idea Kocur and Vukota had a relationship
Saskatoon boys!
Keep the stories coming, Mick!
lots of great stories on the full episode!
I listened, and told a bunch of my hockey buddies, who know him, to listen. Was well received.
@@sandyking7822 thanks! we have lots of great episodes and stories!
Good ol' Mick!!!

Many don't know that Kocur was a bit of goal scorer with 80 goals and 82 assists in Junior in a single regular season.
That Islander cap is 🔥
Derek Sanderson had the same idea and fought Bobby Orr in training camp to get his name out there.
Mick the Quick is a legend. Definitely not the biggest guy on the ice, but he feared no one.
Schofield was a beast, but so was Vukota. LOL.
Love it I’m from Detroit kocur was a very scary dude in the ice as he got older he got better would not want to fight him ever
True. If you look at his penalty minutes across his career, they fell off a cliff midway through it because a lot of people didn't want to fight him anymore lol Dude was just mean and nasty and he didn't give two sh*ts if you got knocked tf out.

Had never heard that. Great story!!
Great story. Put the two on the ice and Poole gets immediately dropped. Balance, jersey grabbing, etc. You gotta stay in your lane.
@@ronthompson95 lol you dont know much about Donnie Poole do ya? The guy grew up in Scarborough, everyoje played hockey in Scarb.

Kocur was saying what he would do in that situation only he wooulda Ko’d the roid rage dude that kick your ass 😂
No doubt!
CTE and not finishing high school will do this to you.
Huh?
Unrecognizable
Go Chiefs!

I’d just stay as a bouncer. Lol
Vukota, can’t fight, let’s slam to ice then
Right, he tried to slam nearly everyone. I'm glad he didn't play for the Bruins, that sh*t wouldn't fly at the Boston Garden .....
Pimples all over his back. Did anyone get that reference?
Ive never heard of this guy! Ever!
