This interview takes me back to being 10 years old, playing floor hockey in the basement while my dad watched HNIC. Bob Cole, Ron McLean, Don Cherry and the Coaches Corner theme song. All sounds of my childhood, thankfull for those memories with my dad.
Thanks for sharing. Me too - exactly. The coach's corner theme. The opening to Hockey Night in Canada. Sometimes we'd order pizza or food to the house. It was just a wonderful time and memory.
To listen to this guy is to honestly like him. It's like is this the same dude we see on the ice? He's done so much good off the ice as well. A true legend who deserved more life with his family. RIP brobie, hoping you're enjoying the great arena in the sky.
If anyone ever wondered what it would be like to meet someone who competed in the Colosseum in Rome back in the day & actually get to talk with a gladiator...this is the closest thing that you get in our times.
He also missed 6 games that year... can we assume that if he played those games and spent a little less time in the box and more on the ice, he could have scored 40+?
1:32 Really nice to be able to see THE BOB PROBERT'S face as it was in the early nineties in such detail, being able to see things such as stubble, and where his moustache has been cut!!!!
Hypothetically speaking, if the states were to try and invade Canada, this is who I'd love for them to meet on the frontline. "Hey, what you doing there buds?" With a smile on his face the entire time. RIP
I know it bothered Probie that he was just short of 1000 GP. He had issues off the ice with drugs and booze but I would love him being on my team. Stand up guy who left this earth too soon. Don’t do cocaine kids. RIP Bob.
Dan Ski ...obviously you weren’t or aren’t a Wings fan. But as a life long Detroiter and huge Wings fan I can tell you through all his demons and drug issues, he was an untouchable icon here, loved here like the rare few, again through everything he’d been through, he’s still a legend here. I only wish he had been able to raise the Stanley Cup in ‘97 and ‘98 like his “brother “ Joey Kocur was able to do, it just never seemed right seeing him in that Black Hawks jersey, but that’s just the way it is...yeah he wasn’t liked by other teams and fans but he was ours!
Dan Ski ... hey that’s my #2 team! I try and see the Rangers here every year, friends of mine back in ‘79 in high school adopted the Rangers early on in the playoffs and they ended up in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Montreal machine.... days of Esposito, Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, Dave and Don Maloney, Barry Beck, Ron Greschner and Ron Duguay.... great team!
I miss those nights dearly, 1st intermission was certainly a highlight every Saturday night, Bob Cole, Harry Neale, the best! Probert, Hall of Famer, in my opinion, nobody like him.
It is guys like this that kept the game pure. Not like today, after every whistle there always face washing and chipping. Elbows and sticks are up. Guys running 1st liners. Bring back the enforcers!
Interesting and not surprising he mentioned Terry Crisp as a positive influence as a coach to him. Terry was a very loud and emotional coach behind the bench with Calgary. I wonder also why Jacques Demers was not mentioned. Demers had coached some good teams in Detroit.
He was fighting alot of demons with little help from anyone. I believe the four year ban from Canada and not being able to see his family really devastated him.
He definitely had a natural sadness look on his face i think that’s just the way he was in general, yea he was definitely battling demons at this time but even if you watch him on the ice it was the same face just with a little more intensity to it. In my opinion. But yea he made alot of people happy by making the ultimate sacrifice so he needs to be remembered in Michigan, In Windsor and the NHL. Talking without bias for a minute, I believe alot of enforcers like him should be in the hall of fame but hockey has changed alot since then its just not the same game anymore. More “intensity” they say these days but that’s just because the game is played faster i like the 80s-early 2000s hockey i miss it so much. Sorry for the rambling have a good day.
- Pls, forgive my unintentional ignorance, I'm only really aware he was an enforcer, & that he passed away. But are his teeth missing here, or is that a gum shield he's got in?

Yeah back then before it went woke too.

One enforcer who had genuine talent!
If anyone ever wondered what it would be like to meet someone who competed in the Colosseum in Rome back in the day & actually get to talk with a gladiator...this is the closest thing that you get in our times.
Bob has always been my favorite hockey player. I remember in 9th grade I got a probert jersey and it’s still one of my prize possessions. RIP Probie
Probert had 29 goals and 400 pim in the same season lol
He also missed 6 games that year... can we assume that if he played those games and spent a little less time in the box and more on the ice, he could have scored 40+?
29 goals then 20 then 19 then13. Cement Head had 65 his whole NHL career.

Big Bob, you were the only thing me and my old man ever agreed on. You’re a legend Sir. May you rest in peace.
Used to seem him all the time in Lincoln Park when he was with the Hawks. Nice guy. Super- friendly.
God love em, in the arms of the angels Bobby . Bless you
God bless Bobbie Probert. A true hero.
Still arguably one of the toughest bastards in NHL history. Always going to be.
Arguably? He was. Between him and kocur i dont know who was better.

Rip Bob, we loved you in Chicago, thanks for the memories...
Bob, you were loved everywhere. You had it all except the gift of time.
Wish there were 100 like him now in the NHL.
They'd be suspended. They'd have to go on Oprah and cry. They'd have to donate to an organic vegetable foundation.
Probert and the backstabber
Man HNIC was so much better back in the day!
Still surprised he did that
What a beauty.

I'm shocked he didn't mention Jacques Demers. Mind you I wasn't in the locker room so who knows.

I started watching them around 1990
Kelly Kiso, Tony Granato, Kris King, John Ogrodnick, John Vanbiesbrouk

Why Ron, why. Anyway, RIP Probie.
Why, what was the matter with Ron? I thought he's always done his job well.
@ask Don Cherry. The CBC is a joke anyway. All television is.
Why? Easy answer: $
@@johnm1720 nothing is perfect, but I always enjoyed ron and don. Poor ron always got no respect from cherry. But it was enjoyable. Stay safe bro.

Wow.. an interview that does not have the word "obviously" unlike the NHL interviews today.
Bob owned a Grand National.
I think I still have my Don Cherry hat!
Tough guys = usually = Cool guys !
Ron Benedict
Every time I see Ron Maclean I think to myself what a Marxist worm/weasel.
Why was he banned 4 years from Canada?

An enforcer who could actually play. Gone too soon.
Hero on the right side of the screen. Weasel on the left.
Why couldn't he go to canada?
He got caught with cocaine at the border
Same night as the Semenko fight?
No, there were no fights this game.
And besides Semenko retired nearly five years prior.
1:06 Bob Probert pronounced about as ABOAT also!!!!!
Because
he's from ontario
Ron the Weasel McLean
What does he or they mean Probert couldnt visit his family for 4 years ??
He got caught with drugs at the border and was charged. So with his record he was not allowed to cross the border
- Pls, forgive my unintentional ignorance, I'm only really aware he was an enforcer, & that he passed away. But are his teeth missing here, or is that a gum shield he's got in?
Most hockey players are missing teeth but yes he was missing his front ones and they wear a partial denture when not playing.
And he was probably hungover and just had a cig there. 💪
Don't want to be caught in the trolly tracks with this big boy!
Can you believe how much cbc and hockey has now changed ? Everyone is afraid of everything.
"All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth."

Funny enough, he didn't even lose them while playing hockey, but while playing street hockey when he was younger.
