Jim Kyte was always an inspiration. To reach the level that he did all while deaf is a great story. And he seems like a great guy. Was always a tough customer.
Brownie was a Beast...alot of former NHL'rs that played this role have stated that Brownie was someone they all had a hard time with. Much Respect to Jimmy Kyte for all he did.
Excellent story Props to Jim Kyte, took on everyone, here he's joking about Joey, man he hurt him but Jim looks OK now! PS I dare anyone to search all Dave Brown's fights, if he EVER throws a right hand, let me know!
You've gotta get Behn Wilson on. One of the very best tough guys from that era, who could also play the game (made an all-star team in 1980 and played a regular 3-4 defense pairing most of his career). He's very seldom interviewed and I'm sure has lots of great stories.
Behn has been on a few podcasts this last week. Chris Nilan's and Riley Cote's. Behn just had a book written about him. Go check them out, you will enjoy Big Behn telling his stories.
I always find it amazing how Kyte got into the NHL as a 19 year old, with how most enforcers, including Bob Probert and Joe Kocur were at least 20 when breaking in.
I remember Dave Brown sittting on top of Jim Kyte full mount position after a right, It should have been the end of the fight and Dave let up but then Jim kyte punched him from the bottom then Dave Brown, in full mount, hammered him..
An argument can be made that Jim Kyte had the most exciting, balls to the wall, knock out or be knocked out fight card of any heavy. Especially early on. Kluzak, Tim Hunter, Craig Coxe, Dave Brown, Kocur, McSorley, Rob Ray just to name a few off the ol noggin. Do yourself a favor and go down the Jim Kyte youtube hole. You wont be dissapointed.

1991 Smythe Division semi finals, Flames vs Oilers, I think it was game 4…. Kyte and Brown square off and Brown absolutely destroyed him. Kyte wound up flat on his back and Brown was on top of him hammering away. It looked like he was starting a lawn mower on poor Kyte, who was basically defenceless
No code in that Era, you fought to win no matter what. Pull hair, elbow, headbutt, suckered punch, Purposely untied Jerseys, tight sleeves, drop the gloves faster than your opponents and even kick with skates. The dirtiest fighter was Dave Semenko, I'm surprised he never resorted to biting a guys ear off in close. 😂 Wendel Clark was the King of Jumpers by a country mile. Semenko and Crowder were specialists as well. Brown jumped some guys, and what other players didn't. War on skates!
@@FullChangePodcastI disagree that Melnyk "pummelled" Brown. A clear-cut draw is what I saw. Gutsy as hell by Melnyk to battle Brown toe-to-toe and not giving an inch. It made Brown so frustrated that he tried to decapitate Tomas Sandström later in the same game. Brown was pure evil through and through.
@@hugomikaelsson4055 fair enough. he didn't pummel Brown, but he did win that fight, clearly surprised Brown and Brown didn't like it. We'll ask him about it when he comes on the show!

Absolutely. He's a good guy too. Hope you enjoyed the episode!
@@FullChangePodcast very much so keep up the great content
DID NOT know that he was deaf....must have been MUCH more difficult playing the game.....Now I have even more RESPECT FOR HIM.....
@@mikefearn6596 it's incredible that he overcame that. You hear in the episode all the things he had to do to make it in the NHL.

100 percent! Brown was the champ. Jim Kyte's story is incredible.

Phenomenal
Dave Brown was one scary dude.
facts.
To all Dave Brown haters. He was such a beast with his left, he didn’t need to throw rights
Jim Kyte had brass balls.
No doubt!
Was Brown the toughest Flyer?
I always find it amazing how Kyte got into the NHL as a 19 year old, with how most enforcers, including Bob Probert and Joe Kocur were at least 20 when breaking in.
Hysterical
Great hilarious story. Love it!
My moms in a stance … I heard the quote wrong. What did he say?
Which quote?
Not tonight, my mom’s in the stands.
Love it a polite hockey fighter

Brownie.. my all time favorite Flyers hockey fighter
He was the champ for a while.

Randy Mackay pummeled Brown... Look it up !
So did Larry Melnyk! He talks about it in Episode 41!

Kocur ruined him
