Not a retro bike but it has been around for a couple of years now and it’s completely off the rails in its design, test the Ceepo Shadow R. Weirdest thing with that crazy front fork!
So much of it does come down the rider! Like Ollie mentioned, the position he had on the lotus, although very aero! He found he couldn't hold it for that long 👀
Some sports the proper position is the hardest position possible to maintain. Waterskiing, snow sking, those are the 2 I know, but I'm sure there are more.
@@waynosfotos it’s very cool. We need to make non traditional bikes UCI legal. As much as I love traditional bikes. I’d feel so much cooler riding a non traditional shape.
@@gcntech good question. They’re out there. Make a community post I’m sure either the company or an owner would gladly send you one for the reach you provide with your audience
@gcntech Yeah I agree with bringing the Ventum in to the discussion. Additionally I would mention that "TriRig" also follows the lotus form factor. Si Richardson actually did a video with a retrofited TriRig Omni a number of years ago "We Built An Illegal "Hyper Bike" - How Good Is It?"
It'd be interesting to see a video comparing an array of modern road bikes in the wind tunnel since companies make improvement claims compared to previous models
There's a lot of discussion about the lotus position but it has an ergo stem so you could have got close to the modern bike. Were you banned from adjusting it?
I was listening to this on my way home from a long day at work and Ollie's comment about DS9 made my whole day!! Would love to know Ollie's favorite character, if he has one, from the show.
@@gcntech Good day! Yes, listening to UA-cam vs watching may sound a bit strange, but my hour commute is typically my only time to check in. A podcast would be lovely and a good way to get into all the "nerdy details!"
You should do a test of a modern track bike against the lotus track bike, the best superman position bikes and old faithfull. No cables, only very aero bikes, I think those are fasyer than today, almost.
If they made aero bikes like the Lotus for the general public I would buy one, think how much lighter and better riding they could be with todays manufacturing. Light as an Atheos but twice as aero as any UCI legal aero bike.
I am quite sure that the Lotus bike would be noticeably better with e.g. the FSA Vision non-UCI trimax cabon base bar with 26mm clamp size (with an unbelievable flat aero part), the vision S-bend clip-on bar, the vision tt brake levers and the Tektro TRP 925 aero-brake, with is mounted behind the fork. I know that as the bike is just lent and therefor it is not possible to change any of the components, but maybe someone else in the UK has put such modern components on his Lotus bike, including e.g. the sram etap, which would make at least the shifting cables obsolete.
Would be interesting to compare the Hope Lotus track bike against the Lotus 108 .. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure they were doing the Hope Lotus as a TT bike ? That be still interesting again against the Canyon Speedmax
Ventum bikes look really cool. Are they as fast as the trangel bikes we know? Or even faster? Thank you Ollie for the vid. Don't forget the doctors glasses next time ;)
Alternatively... Maybe you can verify the claims Specialized and other companies make on their bikes and test to see if what they say is true. Thank you!

Something with 650c wheels. The smaller wheels and lower height were believed to be much faster. Also on tri bikes back in the 90s.
How about a comparison of how a round tube aluminum bike from say twelve years ago compares to these "aero" bikes.
When you break down the numbers, it really highlights how unbelievable the performances were back in the epo days.
They just do high altitude training, illegal in Italy I believe.

I've always been surprised that TT helmets arnt dimpled like a golf ball to take advantage of the golf ball effect. Great bike and show.

Admit it, GCN is totally obsessed with that Lotus thingy
Admit it, if you had the chance to ride it a bunch and make videos about it you would be too.
Guilty! We do love it ... Don't you?
Star Trek DS9 was undoubtedly the best. But surely we need a GCN poll to choose second best?
If only someone had a Lotus 110 frame n fork knocking about so GCN could build a resto mod...... Modern wheels, aero bars and everything 🚀
Wireless drivetrain to get rid of all of the cables etc… modern brake calipers etc…
Speak up if you do! We are ready when you are 🙌

Fantastic video GCN!
14:15 He’s not even wearing aero socks (or any socks). What a legend!
You have to mention Graham Obree and his 'bonkers' bikes!
Is there any video regarding Obree on GCN?
That would be cool! Maybe we could do a GCN+ doc like the one we have done for Mike Burrows? 👉 gcn.eu/mikeburrows

The Lotus as a handlebar with round section. It must make up for a huge portion of the aero penalty

Can you guys get a lightweight road bike and then put really low gearing (like mtb gearing) on it, and see how well it climbs steep hills.
