    Interesting to see the different size tires on the Ineos bikes. I remember Conti selling the Force/Attack tires as a pair back in the day. I believe it was a 19mm on the front and 21 on the rear of course at 120psi! Askk Dan, he will remember.

      The first version was a 22/23mm combo, the second was already 23/25mm. I was running the 18mm Grand Prix as long as it was available (25 years ago)... Today it is even hard to get 23mm tires - Pirelli kicked recently out its P Zero Road 24mm tire. On my recently bought DT Swiss ARC Dicut 62 I put on a Supersonic 20mm tire (the version which on a 13C rim is really 20mm wide, I got some as NOS tires), it becomes 21,75mm wide on that 17C rim, and gives the wheel a lenticular shape.

You can believe that each bike is really, really, really aero. Like super aero. Like blow your mind aero. And afterwards, when you have a coffee, you'll be crying into your latte over all the aero you just saw. And we'll understand. It's an aero thing."

    I think Ineos uses 11speed, as this was the last groupset where you could get a TT-like cassette with 11-23 (Miche even offers a 11-21 11speed cassette), with 12speed is even not possible to get a 11-25 cassette, they are only available with unbelievable big sprockets on.
    The bottle cage on the canyon looks more like one for the Elite Crone CX aero bottle (I first wanted to get one to replace a lost Specialized Air Virtue bottle, with is attached to my Giant Cadex so low on the down tube it works like a fairing, as it nearly touches the seat tube, but with a black bottle you can never be sure it is really clean, as mold has the same colour). Deep fork blades are not necessarily an advantage, on my Giant Cadex I have an Oval Concepts Jetstream fork, which reacts in a way to crosswinds it is impossible to run a DT Swiss ARC Dicut 80 frontwheel, it feels like someone is riding beside you and keeps moving your handlebar (my weight is only 140 lbs).
    The most interesting thing on the merida TT bike is the kind of extender for the rear derailleur, it is not attached directly to the frame.

    Hi Ollie, your passions are bikes and chemistry, mine are bikes and aerodynamics.
    I can't help noticing that the wheels are fatter than the tyres (more than usually seen on road stage wheels) and that the thickest bit of the rim is nearer the hub suggesting to me that they are more optimised for the trailing rim (ie at the wheel frame interaction). On the pinarellos the wavy inner rim edge (nearest the hub) is interesting, I wonder what effect they have found there, and the wavy trailing edges of the tri spokes too.
    The other thing, if a matt finish saves weight, how much does an ice finish cost in weight?
    It is nice to have another nerd looking at these things.

    • @simon_hollins
      @simon_hollins Рік тому

      Apparently reduces the stalling effect caused by cross-winds, that makes aero wheels feel like they are being bumped off line. There is a GCN Tech video that talks about it somewhere I think.

      Good for roughly 70Kph at 90 RPM, so probably not used on anything but fast descents as I doubt many riders are going to see that velocity on anything but the very hardest finishing flat-terrain sprints. It would likely be an impractically high gear ratio otherwise. My guess is around (600-700)W minimally at pro peloton speeds.

    All bikes look wicked fast from a pure aerodynamic basics perspective they all seem very well designed. This is in spite of "aerodynamics specialist" Tom Boonen arguing that the Colnago bike is 2 kph slower than the Cervelo and Specialized. Go figure, the UAE boys would have gone 58 kph at the TTT and demolished the competition. Sarcasm aside, I am glad someone told him to STFU on stuff he does not what he is talking about.

    Is that a new SHIV TT? Looks different. deeper seat tube and sloped top tube, unless it's the angle.

    • @fabriziomonopoli5074
      @fabriziomonopoli5074 Рік тому

      Don't think so, I reckon the seat tube looks deeper in the video because of the angle and the top tube is sloped just because it is a small size frame.

    11spd Shimano for the smaller, closer shift jump, cassettes? 12spd is 11-30 at the moment. The TT bikes don’t need that.
