Maupiti -I was there on my 37' cutter in 1978 when hardly anyone dared try the entry channel which is long, torterous, and has a strong current. Only five boats that whole year! We scuba dived on the outside, eastern side of the perimeter reef during calm weather and it was spectacular. I swear visibility was well over 200 feet! We also dove the inside coral pools to the west of the entry pass (shown briefly in your video) but were chased from the water by many white tip reef sharks who showed uncommon interest in us. There is a legend that two hundred years ago a great "lizard" arrived which ate several of the people. It lived in a cave on the west side of the island and terrified the inhabitants. When a white man arrived, he was told about the lizard and decided to rid the people from this creature. He was shown the cave and ventured inside with his musket. The Polynesians heard a gunshot; the white man never came out of the cave, however, neither did the "lizard", so the inhabitants were very thankful for the white man and the story is now island lore. We ventured into this cave quite a ways, but had no flashlights. I've always wondered if the "lizard" was a saltwater croc? Anyways, thanks so much for reintroducing memories of cruising life a long time ago!
Garrett my name is Fred and I am from Canada. Great episode today. I can't believe you climbed to the top of the island and then got out your drone. And you made it all look easy. Hats off to you son. I'm proud of you. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Big fan.

I want to apologize for my short temper when after repairing your step and we raised your mast, I thought John had a plan and knew how to do it? Anyway so stoked you are living the dream you envisioned. You badass sailor, love the vids and story your sharing with us followers. Aloha Woody Parsons.
You are so fortunate to have these experiences. You are traveling to places and doing things that others dream about. It’s gutsy to be out on open water by yourself , so absolutely happy for you!!! Rob
I really like your videos. If you ever tire of sailing you could be a gr8 cinematographer . Actually you already are . All the best and smooth sailing.
Another great video with some incredible photography, both underwater and drone. The hike looked pretty tough at the end climb but the views where wonderful. You are leading a lifestyle many of us would not be able or willing to do, so thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us all. James.

But I am really, really enjoying your videos - I feel like I'm there with you (and not just leaning over the side or unconscious below from the Gravol tablet I took).
Garrett, sometimes a child is born that will amaze all other people around them. With their courage, bravery, unbreakable spirit and unwavering passion for adventure. With maturity beyond your years and always with a humble attitude, you are 1 in a million my friend! You probably think we are all so crazy for thinking and writing about your greatness, but trust me, we are very much in awe of you!!! I dream of a life such as yours, and the fact you share yours with us so incredible, that it takes my breath away. Your belief in yourself and your abilities is what touches me the most. I do not think that you realize what a profound effect you have on all of us through your adventures!!! I so thank you from the bottom of my heart that you give this boomer the opportunity to think "what if...". I am reliving my youth and sense of adventure through you! ❤❤❤
Thanks Garrett! Weird how the islanders don’t want boaties coming to spend money in their neighbourhoods… I’m a full time van lifer and I find the same happens in some towns but mostly things are good. Take care out there! Somewhat scarier than the road!
its because a lot of vanlifers and boaties dont have respect for the locals and think they are something better. I can totally get why locals dont want a shit ton of people come to their land, expoit it and then leave acting like they´ve done something good. Its especially places that have become really popular that struggle because of this. Tourism attracts big corporations that put down huge resort complexes and at the end of the day the locals dont see any of the money beside a shitty wage if they work for them. On top they get their nature destroyed by the sheer amount of people passing through. Sadly the actions of those make the experience for all of the nice guys n girls out there shitty. I´m not a vanlifer but a surfer that goes around europe in his bulli and in my experience you just have to introduce yourself to the locals, offer a beer or two and you´ll have the time of your life :D Respecting others goes a long way
Enjoying your vids, Garrett! Really like the drone shots, underwater, and shots of the "local" vibe/ scene. Wouldn't mind seeing longer scenes for each.
Hello Garrett. Another beautiful video thanks. When you get to Cook Island take a look at the bank notes there. If they've still got the same as 20 years ago they are like paintings of the local fish and fauna. Well worth keeping some if you can simply because of their beauty (nothing to do with value). Cheers; well done and keep up the good work.
@@garrettsadventure Ain't that the truth. When I come up on a right dock my prop walk as I reverse always throws my aft away from it, so I always try to arc in and have turn momentum and still have to make a mad dash and make sure I don't get too far or in a slip even hit who's next to me. Makes me feel like an idiot after a day of killing it.
