The thing is that most charter boats are designed to optimise the space for guests, so the designer makes the engine room as small as he can get away with. In this case the boat has been designed with other priorities, good access to all the essential mechanical and electrical systems has been moved right up the list.

...bit like the last guy who commented - sailed all my life - my first Sydney-Hobart was the infamous 1998 - so I've carried with me the need for safety and smart design ever since as Ive made single handed storm sailing (or as windy as it gets) my own little frontier of exploration . So to listen to Skip talk is like hearing GOD as few would truly understand the depth and quality of the information he is giving ... I have learnt to prepare for everything and for everything to happen at the same time ... don't make the first mistake as one just cascades into the next and so on ... its how people are hurt and boats lost ... and also that situations are just a product of time on the water - the more time you spend on the water - the higher the probability things will go wrong - so have plan A, B, C already rehearsed in your head ... blah blah ...I'm preaching
Skip - I think I get it why you venture into that insane place - its the adrenalin and risk - coupled with the meticulous planning and control .... its the adrenalin junky who also has the skill to manage his risk - well almost all of it - so don't go and die OK- you're a true legend mate

I've sailed on many pleasure craft - power and sail - but none have ever felt well laid out. This one does - it's a true working boat and it shows. I'm stunned at the engine room - it must be a dream to work in.
My only surprise was the halyards being on the mast. I would have expected them to be drawn into the cockpit, so no crew would ever have to be on deck when reefing. I did appreciate the surfeit of winches - it's good to have many and to be multi-purpose.

@@constantineding8700 Fiberglass will be used to protect wood. Strip planked wood has been used for years and years. It's easy to work with, doesn't need full mold etc.
Check out SV Tapatya's channel. He's been doing wood epoxy boat for a few years now. :)

The moment Skip Novak speaks you know this man is The Skipper, and knows what he doing, and don't even think of questioning him when he tells you to do something. Stunning vessel, so smartly laid out. I would love to spend a couple of months on board this vessel, and the higher the latitude and worse the weather, the more I'd enjoy it.
