I'm going to start buying parts from you guys based solely on the existence of these DIY how-to videos and the fact that I want to support the creation of more of them. Really well made, great quality. Thanks!
+Kevin Hannon Thank you so much for the support. I really appreciate it. The support from the community allows us to continue to dedicate the resources to make videos just like this one. Once again I cannot thank you enough for considering us for your purchases. Thanks Paul
Thanks very much! Friend and I did the downpipe and full exhaust on his 2016 Golf R this week on my Quickjack TL7000. Super tight getting everything out of the tunnel, but it was doable. Most of the issue is with the brackets on the side of the downpipe getting hung up. As noted earlier though, the triple square is a 10mm, not an 8mm. Watching the video you see that the triple square looks about the same as the 10mm bolts next to it, but inverted. Overall great video, and the length was spot on. And you really do want to find a ball hex for the one cover over the passenger side half shaft. The issue being that a socket style 8mm hex is going to get hung up between the downpipe and the body, so you can't actually access the top hex bolt.
Put the nuts on the sleeve clamp on the bottom. When they're all rusted six or so years from now, you'll want to be able to access them with an impact wrench.
Thank you Paul for this video! I installed a DP on my 2015 Golf R and your video was a tremendous help. Though you made removing the stock cat heat shield a lot easier than it really was, the job would've taken me much longer. It took about 4 hours, but feel that I could do it much quick next time.
Did this yday installed scorpion down pipe, disconnected steering rack and dropped subframe had plenty space to remove oem dp and install scorpion dp was easy you will need a friend to help with installing subframe back
Hey there, great video it is very helpful. I just want to know whether do I need to worry about the gasket? Or is there a gasket needed for the downpipe?
Did you replace the gasket at the turbo clamp? I heard it's not a bad idea to do it. Any torque specs recommendations for the dogbone bolts and turbo clamp?
very helpfull video, i have an s3 8v and i am about to change my dp as well, in order to tight up the driveshaft do i have just to tight it up or with certain torque??thanks
Hi Paul, I noticed that a lot of aftermarket downpipes (save for a few) don’t have brackets to secure the pipe/catalyst to the block. I’m sure the engineers had a reason for it, but do you think that omitting this support brace is safe? I’d think that without it, there would be more stress on the turbo flange since it’s the only connected piece before the flex joint.
Andrew Trentacoste I have a cts that’s catless that I am waiting to install that doesn’t have that mount point, I think since the catless one is much lighter than stock it doesn’t really need it
I really appreciate the tutorial...however if after the install you could run the vehicle to show any fault codes...and the new engine noise with the down pipe...that would be even better!!!
Great video Paul! If you were to install another what would you quote for the time required to do the install? Just trying to get a rough idea for when I have mine installed in a couple weeks. Cheers

Nicely done, great video. Are any of these downpipes emissions legal? Did you need to do a software upgrade? Finally is there a way to put a list of components, referral pop ups in the title section of the video. It's a pain to go back and rewatch the video and jump back and forth. THANKS Again

It's a LOT harder on a right hand drive car because the steering column comes out of the firewall where the "cat" is. I wish I saw the video about a month ago before we did mine.
Any idea if the right hand drive cars can be done on jack stands? looking on doing mine over the weekend. U use a similar method to the vid? have heard some guys drop the subframe to make it easier
+John-Henry Corbett . It can't be done on car stands, pipe won't come out under the car, not enough room ( unless you cut it). We did mine at a workshop on a hoist. Cross member came out and steering rack was in the way. I think one drive shaft was removed too. At least 5 hours labour, mechanic said. So yeah it's a big job, unless my mechanic was useless and did it the hard way. BTW what pipe have you got?
evoCezar thanks for the heads up, will have to organize to get it to a workshop next week then. Might get the car on the stands the weekend just to have a look. Currently have a Milltek decat DP with the stock cat-back system. Have to get the stock pipe back on for a service. the workshop fitted mine in under 2 hours but they moved shop and it is a bit of a mission getting the car there now.

Hey guys! Quick question; would it be possible to do the install without loosening all the engine and drivetrain etc. like skipping to taking the downpipe in and out? Obviously it would be more difficult to place everything, but is it possible? I thought I had seen a few videos of people doing without! I am installing an armytrix downpipe soon to add to my armytrix catback (golf r 2016).

Install can be done on jack stands, I installed a USP downpipe on my 16R that way.
Did you have to pry the transmission out of the way like he did?
About how high off the ground did you have to jack it up?
FYI the triple square is a 10mm not an 8. Found out the hard way.
U tease ! Was looking forward to the sound of pipe !
Gotta love the upside down magnetic bolt tray! :-)

+Meat Amigo I removed mine on jack stands, you should be g2g
As did I.
About how high off the ground did you have to jack it up?
Wow, so professional!
just ordered a cts catless dp , intercooler, and Unitronic stage 2, can't wait
Did this on a lift 6 months ago. Where was this video then? Took me hours to remove the DP due to drive shaft.

Hey Paul, do you guys sell that small tool attachment that you used on the Oxygen sensor? It looked alot easier than a normal wrench.

Thanks Glad you like.
Fyi it can be done on jack stands. Check the VW forums and youtube vids.
its possible but much more difficult
Great instruction video, thanks. This mod will be significantly easier on a GTI...
+GTI_CHHA Yes we already did a GTI downpipe DIY which can be found here

Will this downpipe give any fault lights?
+magnus lund without flashing to stage 2 yes.
alternatively, will lowering the subframe be a simpler option? meaning less parts to remove and return.
Berns Tanteckchi no that would add way too much work. I just put in a cts catted downpipe on my mk7 R today with hand tools and two jack stands. If you take your time you’ll have no issues
is that doable without a lift? Doesn't look like it.
so no cat on revo you be ok to pass inspection in nj
Soundclip after would be great.
Hi, DAP great video here, just wondering if the bolts to the drive shaft are reusable or they are just one timer once taken off?
I believe they are stretch bolt and should be replaced
Is there a difference between RHD and LHD models? or will it fit on any MK7 Golf R? thanks.
RHD would likely be different but we dont know as we only offer parts in the US
Interesting..... My Aussie spec Golf r only has 1 cat
Wow I wanted to hear the difference in sound. Maybe next time lets hear some sound clips.
Where can i get some oxygen sensors for the engine light after the mod?
Spacers for the sensors i should say
A stage 2 tune, which you should be getting if you do a DP will likely fix the CEL, I would not recommend running a stock tune with a dp
Oh dear lord! Fuck thatttttt. You make it look easy.. I would has to buy a new car !
Why loosen the drive shaft? It didn't move anywhere.
makes me curious if it's even possible for someone without a lift to change out an O2 sensor
just did it lol
is any video for s3 8v??
