You should put the required tools you used somewhere in the beginning of the video. Otherwise, thank you for the video. It will help out a lot when I do the install
Man, I just wanna say you guys are dope! I’ve been buying stuff from y’all ever since I first got my GTI in 2017, and the customer service has always been on point. Plus the fact that you guys ship to APO is super helpful for me. I’ve used a few of your install videos and y’all keep giving me the confidence to do all my own work. I’m excited to finally get my car to stage 2 this weekend!
All kidding aside, I'm impressed that you're able to climb under the car and wrestle these parts and keep a good train of thought and give clear directions. It makes me feel better about a lot of DIYs. I'm waiting for a few parts for the mk7 R to come in and you'll see another order from me!
Does installing this down pipe throw any codes or engine lights? I know I wont be able to pass emissions with this installed but just curious about other issues.
Jake Block just like any Downpipe (aside from AWE) it will throw a CEL. You can instal a spacer or tune to stage 2 to get rid of the code. I went the spacer route for now.
@Bonzo "make sure you tighten it really good to make sure you don't get any exhaust leaks." You need it for the same reason you use one for your oil drain plug - as a seal.
Inspirational video for the DIY customer. Could you share the tools list with me before I tackle the job this weekend? Also, are the O2 spacers bad for the car since it's tricking the ECU for the air/fuel ratio?
do you torque things to the specific torque setting? I noticed on the Suspension video you do you mention torque specifications, is there a reason for this? or did you just not mention it?
Do you need a gasket for 2020 GTI downpipe? It makes sense if it would need one but no kit comes with one. Gasket from the back of the turbo to the downpipe?
crackers127 Im sorry we dont have any plans for that at this time. Also that would be a really tough DIY to show as most of the bolts and hardware removed would be hard to see.
I just ordered the same down pipe for my 1.8t will the check engine light come on, and I have a APR stage 1 flash, apr does not offer anything for my Passat can you recommend another upgrade stage that would work
Need some help got a borla exhaust on my 17 gti want a good catted downpipe that will fit my exhaust was going to get one off cobb tuning but it only fits Cobb's exhaust system so any good brands that fit my borla and wont turn on engine codes ?
Hello, I have a couple of questions for u. In order to get my 2017 VW GLI high enuff to do the downpipe swap what should I use? I have a hydraulic floor jack & some Jack stands. Would that be enuff or would I have to take it to a mechanic with a hydraulic jack stand? Also is a downpipe swap all I need for a stage 2 flash? & also will I get a check engine light after doing a downpipe swap?
Jack it up and place jack in the correct place per yer vehicle. Always use jack stands of course, and emergency brake / tire blocks. Yer floor jack should state on it what the maximum height is. Don't push the height to the maximum limit though. Then get under there and see if you have enough room to work. Remember too that the downpipe section has a flexible portion.
i have a 2018 Gli stage 2 everything. For stage 2 you need an intake and downpipe. You will have a check engine light tho before you get the tune unless you get an o2 sensor spacer
@@JuggFinesse Hello. Just today I put in a catch can for my PCV system. What a bear it was. I have an 09 2.5 DSG 9M. I kept the 3/4 inch inside diameter for the new hose but no way the engine cover would snap back on. So, I had to design an air intake system. I had to do both to get everything all workable. The last few weeks I did the two mentioned above, plus a new cam sensor, crank sensor, fuel filter, new coils, new plugs, new throttle body, new valve cover, tranny and filter change, and an oil/filter change....plus an AWE Tuning catback exhaust. Purrs like a kitten.
Amir M Yes the downpipe is one of the most restrictive points in the exhaust. When you couple it with the stg2 software you will see pretty significant bumps in the power.
Hahahahaha great job. A little loud for me but nice install. Hey have you gotten very much junk out of that catch can? I am really wondering If i really need it or not! Don't wanna spend money on something that may not be needed!

I'm sorry but I'm new with mods and all that, if I install the DP, can I still drive the car? because the location that tunes my car is an hour away from me... and I will go to them after I install the DP.
I'm helping my dad get his stock downpipe off. It's a pain in the ass because it won't come out. The part that angles to the turbo (j looking angled pipe) is getting caught on surrounding parts. What a headache I just watched you get it out in 60sec
If I install the software the vw agent will drop my car service package, so any ideas on how to do it ? And btw I'm not from the US and I have a mk7 gti
“Due to some audio difficulty” aka too many profanities to edit out so we just muted the clip 😂 I respect the engineers that made everything fit perfectly but damn do my knuckles hate them

You may also understand they are needed as people say theyr the only ones they 100 % last & are constantly sold out! 👍
+Gunsforfreedom The downpipe is not what requires the tune. The car is. You will almost certainly have a check engine light if you install a downpipe without tuning the vehicle. If you are OK with that then you should proceed.
I understand that. It's a soft code, plus it's a speed density system. Bull X and a couple other manufacturers guarantee a no cel on their down pipes. Thanks for the advice. I enjoy your channel!
We will have a Dyno videos coming soon. Once you install a downpipe and you purchase the Stage 2 software you should expect 127 hp and 112 lb ft of torque over a stock MK7 GTI.
I did this install without doing a tune and didn't get a CEL. What did come on was the engine emissions light (O2 sensor). This is supposed to go away after you flash the ECU. I'll find out... Have Uni Stage 2, but waiting to put DKM Stage 2 clutch in first. 2015 GTI SE 6-speed
Deutsche Auto Parts someone please help me. I have installed a invidia dp on my mk7 gti but I have a huge leak where the vband clamps down. it sounds horrible and smells like gas!!! when I press on the gas I can physically see air escaping from the vband. someone plz help!!!!

Often the best course of action....spent a lot of extra hours trying to squeeze by a part that would have taken 10 minutes to take off and reinstall

Love these older but still useful how to videos. Your Alltrack build gave me ideas for a SportWagen project.
This vid is just as relevant/useful as the day you made it. Thank you for this

The part where you had 'audio difficulty' is you cursing your brains out, right?:) Thanks for the vid! Very helpful
Funny... No cursing on this one. This is a pretty easy install. Glad it was helpful!!

6:15 “Audio difficulty” means you get to spice up your vocabulary😇
Hey guys, thanks for posting this video. Helped me install my Unitronic downpipe
Torque Specs from Repair Manual: Vband at turbo - 15 Nm plus replace gasket
Bracket to Downpipe (2x) - 20 Nm
Bracket to block (2x) - guessing 20-25 Nm
O2 sensor - 55 Nm w/ little anti-seize
Bolt to prong holders/subframe - 20 Nm
Clamp sleeve with 2 clamps - 30 Nm
Clamp sleeve 1 clamp - 25 Nm
you forgot the crush washer on the O2 sensor. :-(
@Bonzo "make sure you tighten it really good to make sure you don't get any exhaust leaks." You need it for the same reason you use one for your oil drain plug - as a seal.
@Rob that was exactly what I was think when I was watching the "audio failure"
Socket size for the sensor ???
Mention all tools required on video description, that should help a lot.
Thanks for the video !
hey you don't happen to still know the socket size? Edit oh shit you wrote this 3 years ago! wait I found it, 22mm
Inspirational video for the DIY customer. Could you share the tools list with me before I tackle the job this weekend? Also, are the O2 spacers bad for the car since it's tricking the ECU for the air/fuel ratio?
I'm guessing this is on a manual? My 2017 DSG sport has different mounting for the CV heat shield.
I think that the Revo V-band Downpipe - w/Cat is a better choice because if you have to change the cat you can do it almost all from the top side.
Im wondering how you plan on passing smog check without the cat? Is the install easy enough to swap the old down pipe and cat to pass?
How did you get to the second mounting bracket ?? I have the mk7.5 and it’s hard to get to
Was this done on a lift? or was the car jacked up? I am hoping to get it done with jacks. 😅
do you torque things to the specific torque setting? I noticed on the Suspension video you do you mention torque specifications, is there a reason for this? or did you just not mention it?
Excellent! Great video, I recommend!
Is this done with the stock catback? i like the sound in the end but don't know if that comes from the uni DP and stock cat.
+Sergio Garcia Yes this was done with the stock catback.
Do you need a gasket for 2020 GTI downpipe? It makes sense if it would need one but no kit comes with one. Gasket from the back of the turbo to the downpipe?
Would this pass an emissions test? is a highflow cat legal?
In most states no, it only makes it smell a bit less. For me in Cali I have to switch back to the OEM downpipe every 2 years for emissions testing.
Ever think of doing the unit runic t urbo kit? I'd love to see that
crackers127 Im sorry we dont have any plans for that at this time. Also that would be a really tough DIY to show as most of the bolts and hardware removed would be hard to see.

great vid
and again, great vid... i finally have a MK7. this looks easier than the MK5/6 installs, as you dont have any downpipe studs to deal with anymore.
Still on stock clutch even with stage 2 and a downpipe? any slippage?
Would I be able to do the same install if I have an electronic limited slip?
Did you install the gasket from the turbo to the downpipe
For the lower silicone mounting bracket piece, what size are the bolts that connect the bracket to the subframe?
Need some help got a borla exhaust on my 17 gti want a good catted downpipe that will fit my exhaust was going to get one off cobb tuning but it only fits Cobb's exhaust system so any good brands that fit my borla and wont turn on engine codes ?
Do you need to replace the downpipe gasket? Some companies provide it with their downpipe, others don't.
Harder to remove stock down pipe than installing the unitronic DP
Sounds much better with unitronic
How much HP gain ….?
After installing the Downpipe, the sound that the GTI generates when up-shifting is gone?
Have you adjust exaust pipe to be "free of tension"?
Wow that looks like a pain in the arse...is this easier or harder than the Mk6 GTI dp install?
+Eric “SpeedieGTI” U This is probably slightly more challenging than a MK6 but not too tough.
Can someone provide a list of tools used so I can get my mise en place ready for when I do this myself? Thanks
Kick ass video helped me put my cts downpipe in. Stage 2 is some serious power. Now i gotta get that unitronic bolt on is38 turbo next hehehehe.
Is the software tune required, or can you get away with just the downpipe?
How do you get to the bolts that hold the downpipe to the block?
Do these bolts and fasteners get loose over time?
Do you have to flash a stage 2 if replacing downpipe?
Super late to this video. BUT something about "audio difficulty" sounds more like a few no no words were said haha

Thanks great videos

So this car has to CATs?? Is this the same as the Audi A3 2017 2.0
Quick question if you install downpipe, did we have to tune it on the dyno?
+Pekpek86 most VW and Audi models have pre ready tunes that dont need to be done on the dyno
+Deutsche Auto Parts already thank you..thanks for all the video u did..u help me a lot to diy my car😊
Would this work on my TSI launch Edition?
Did you notice any drone under low rpm? I know this video is old but am thinking of going with unitronic downpipes and stock catback.
+Jkronos you should not expect to see any drone. This was great with the stock cat back. Thanks for considering us for your purchase.
you wouldn't get drone on just a downpipe. Usually drone occurs inside the cabin because of the exhaust note that you can hear at certain RPM ranges.
Hi I need some v bands what size are they?
Will I still benefit from the Unitronic downpipe if I plan on using the stock exhaust with the provided adapter?
