I love this video. The best one I've found. I've driven hybrids for a few yrs now and thankfully I've been using the pulse and glide method without realising!
Thanks my man :)
Great tip 👍
Brilliant $$$ saving tip! Thank you!!
Thanks for the gas saving tips, life in general is getting more expensive so leaving money in your pocket or your bank is a plus!!💯
Anytime Bobby! Inflation is still a huge problem in Canada everything is just getting so expensive so hopefully this is just 1 thing to help folks save some money 💴
Great tip. I learned something new.
Mission accomplished 😎🙏
Awesome 👍
Thanks for sharing! I have a Lexus ES 300h and this is an approach that I stumbled upon unintentionally. I was noticing the EV symbol displaying on the dashboard as I pressed and released the accelerator. The result was my mpg went from 44 to 54 mpg. Your video explains the method to the madness 🙂 Thanks again.
Anytime glad it was helpful and welcome to the channel :)
How does the EV symbol play into this? Should it display when you press the gas pedal again to keep the momentum going?
I have been using adaptive cruise control while in ECO mode while on highway and I see a difference. But I will try the pulse and glide
Try the pulse and glide technique and let me know in the city. That’s mainly where you will see a difference!
Try it for yourself and see how much more fuel you can save! I am curious to hear how much more fuel this can save you all 🤔
Fantastic video! I have a 450h+ on order and these are soooo interesting. Thank you
Thanks Mike! When do you get your 450h+?!
@@carswithsonduren I ordered it last September and haven't got a delivery date yet. Fingers crossed the dealer said maybe before Christmas. There's so much to learn about them as there's so much technology in them. Thanks again, fascinating stuff!
Hopefully it comes soon! It’s an amazing vehicle. You’re going to absolutely love it. Keep me updated when it finally arrives and how you enjoy it.
@@carswithsonduren Will do, thanks again and keep the Lexus NX content coming. I've got a mate also who is about to order one and we are glued to NX content 😁
Great video! Nice explanation and a very good tip. Just curious what fuel type do you use for NX 350H? Regular or Premium? I’m planning to go for NX 350H, partly inspired by your reviews 😉 You are doing great, keep going.
Thanks my man :) Regular is the minimum required so I’m using 87 octane. You will love this SUV :)
Does this pulse and glide technique work if i use cruise control? Or only if use the pedal? Thank you.
Don’t hold the steering wheel, got it! Haha! Thanks for the video and explanation. Please drive safely.
At times I can see how the technic works but sometimes the engine stays on even going down a non steep hill. What does this mean when the engine stays on for longer than expected? I m new to the world of hybrids. Only one week now. The total miles driven seems to match the miles to empty and I don’t think it’s suppose to work like that correct? Thanks for your info
@carswithsonduren Thanks for your videos ;) How much mileage you are seeing in your NX350h? Currently, I see 6.4/100 in my car. I use Costco gas but some people raised concerns about it. Can you clarify? What's the normal mileage for NX 350h?
That’s about right, I’ve been able to get into the 4.8-4.9L / 100 KM in the most ideal conditions.
In my RAV4 hybrid I go from 0 to about 40km/hr without having the engine come on. As soon as it does, I use the pulse and glide. I’m getting 5.8l/100km (50 MPG) mostly city.
Just got an update on my delivery for the NX 350 F Sport, should be by the end of the month.
I'm glad you're still making videos about it, you're very helpful and informative. More so than others. I see that when compared to the German and European brands people belittle this car for not having a big WOW factor. Speed is plenty, comfort superb, and reliability is king. Therfore Lexus takes it again.
Great Advice!
Nice! It’s coming so soon 🙏 Thanks for the kind words Omen, make sure you get a picture on delivery day :)
@@carswithsonduren Thank you, and will do. Hoping for the best 🙏🏾
Thank you for the tip ! Finaly getting 5.5 to 5.9 l/100km as expected from my hybrid...
I bought a new Toyota Rav 4 hybrid and my first tank of gas I averaged 43mpg. The pulse and glide comes naturally from using the hybrid gage.
@carswithsonduren Where did you buy the Lexus Replica rims for winter tires? How much does it cost?
Here they are: factoryreproductions.com/product-category/lexus/. It ended up costing me $2100 CAD with Xice tires
Hey Man, thanks a lot for the useful tip, i have been using the pulse and glide without knowing with my gasoline cars :D with my old GOLF V i was at 5.6/6.0 per 100KM (30% city 70% highway)
New to hybrids i have been doing research on tips on how to efficiently drive one, and pulse and glide was the term of the technique i've been driving with :D
My question is, do you advise driving on eco mode even on highways while doing pulse and glide ?
Thank you so much
On the highway you will be basically running fully on the gasoline engine, so it doesn’t really matter.
how do you drive the car without the car being on ?
I heard that if you input your destination in the GPS, the car will know when to use electric and when to use gas depending on the elevation/inclinaison.
I don’t know if this is true for the hybrid models. I have never seen any indication that it’s aware and is doing this.
I’ve read somewhere that this was US only. The vehicle will know there’s a long decent ahead so it will spend more battery so it can get maximum regen when it is able to.
Good tip! Do you do it with ECO mode to maximize it?
Yes, ideally you’re an Eco mode which will further improve fuel economy versus that’s a sports mode which will prioritize more aggressive, engine, throttle, and transmission behaviour.
@@carswithsondurenwould you recommend using eco mode in the winter as well? I hear ppl advising against it in the winter. What’s your take? Thanks
@TolgaDag-nk5wg no need to even bother. I just keep it in default Eco mode. The computer will do all of the adjustments to maximize the economy.
@@carswithsonduren sounds good. Thanks for these tips. Kind of off topic but I spillled a large amount of water on my front seat. I dried it off with a cloth but some leakes on the floor which has these hybrid wirings underneath . Apparently hybrids are prone to water damage. Should I be worried? Thanks
@TolgaDag-nk5wg anytime. Honestly I wouldn’t be worried about it. Turn up the heat and let things dry :)
Which one is a better hybrid - RX350h or the NX350h ? Which model is more prone to switching to gas engine more frequently?
I’d assume since the NX is smaller and lighter the NX.
I don’t need a lot of passenger room so the NX 350h is better for me. You don’t pay as much for the NX and gas mileage is better
nx350h regular 87 vs premium 91 mpgs. Please do a comparison.
No difference in my experience
What does pulse mean, accelerate?
Being a hybrid, do you notice that the car slows down a bit faster than a non hybrid car. When you let off the gas, the hybrid slows down much faster than a non hybrid especially on the highway. Is this normal character for hybrids?
I have not heard that term "pulse and glide" since I owned my 2006 Prius. Back then that was a hack to get more mileage out of that car. I was able to get just over 3L /100km in the city back then. Another hack was driving behind really close to a tractor trailer in the highway to get that air effect and reduce drag. I do not suggest anyone do that because it is dangerous but it does work. Me and the wife went fully electric about 6 years now and we are never going back to gas mobiles. I wish Toyota will make a fully electric 4Runner one day, that would be amazing.
Hello, in my hybrid vehicle, from time to time the engine temperature is normal, when the air conditioner is not working and I am driving in the eco zone, it happens that it is not working only with the electric motor. What could be the reason? Have you encountered such a situation?
Which vehicle do you have? Sounds odd to me.
@@carswithsonduren2023 corolla cross 1.8 hybrid
When you glide do you press the break or just leave the accelerator?
Just leave it!
I can’t do this. Dynamic cruise control is the way to go for me on the highway.
If toyota would update cruise control to do pulse and glide, that would be great and I’d do it.
Was this in mph or kph? Also great video!
Kph :)
@@carswithsonduren Wow. I didn't think hybrids could go over like 70ph without using the engine unless there was a big downhill stretch. Thanks for the information! :)
Do you run premium in your old Is 250 or regular?!🤔
Regular gas. You should see what your car recommends as the minimum requirement.
@@carswithsonduren Do you use Regular or Premium gas in your Lexus NX 350h?
@sharatchandrakoganti6187 regular. premium is not required
@@carswithsonduren Thank you for prompt response. Did you do any rust protection for NX? What do you recommend?
@sharatchandrakoganti6187 no because it comes with factory rust prevention, but I could apply in an while if I wanted to.
How much do you save gas . While using pulse and glide
Between 5 to 10% is what I am getting.
I'm from the US . My state gets around 3.50 . And was almost 5 dollars in 2022 when Russia .I know The politician wants us to move to electric cars .But for another 10 years -12 years hybrid is still a better choice
That's what I've doing recently, and how I gain efficiency. It works, but it's also a lot of work and a bit distracting. But you can save a bit of fuel, I guess.
On the highway and motorway, don't bother. That's more for city, suburbs, and country lanes. Above 50 mph, there's too much drag to make s difference.
This seem like that would be crazy annoying for other drivers, I have hybrid myself, but before hybrid I hated people who kept changing speed.
My problem with this is that it's hard to maintain speed without the engine turning on. I'll keep trying though
You will find the right balance of throttle to maximize it!
@@carswithsonduren thanks. Ok, I got it down now. Got 66 mpg coming home rather than the usual 46. Thanks for the tutorial!
@arachosia that’s awesome wow. 😮
At times I can see how the technic works but sometimes the engine stays on even going down a non steep hill. What does this mean when the engine stays on for longer than expected? Youre starting to tread into the " high mileage per gallon" Prius owner club territory bragging..lmao
let’s say I’m just gently massaging that line 😂 times are tough!
@Cars with Sonduren know the feeling.. haven't driven the truck since fall because I haven't had to.. in city it averages 20l.. jeep is a bit better at 15.. once salt is gone the wife's Velar should do 10 in city.
I'll try it tommorow when I pick up my Rav 4 Hybrid Ltd in Windchill Pearl....because after a year the only thing Lexus could deliver was two price increases ..no NX350H 😂 😂...ahhh fck it I'm saving 8500 and 350 a year in insurance. Plus I have more bells 😂 Then a NX350H Signature with Premium Package.
Damn man well the Rav 4 is still awesome :)
@@carswithsonduren Rav 4 is a nice Dependable vehicle............HOWREVER it is not even in the same league as it is MUCH more noisy...(not nearly as insulated) the infotainment system is NOT EVEN Close to the Lexus!
Very true definitely a lot of reason to go with the Lexus even tho they have the same technical bones.
@@donaldbanner2185 you can only wait so long for a car. It's been a year still with no dealer allocation. My 18 year old Honda needs an update. Yes a Rav 4 is not a Lexus but I have had both on order for the same length of time I was told 6 months for the Lexus and 12 months for the R4. .....Well Lexus FAILED.
And I'm in Canada where the NX350H is made !
.. I honestly believe the dealer did not want to order my Lexus as I didn't order the higher option package. Plus changing the model year from a 23 to a 24 just to jack the price again .....was the final kick in the groin
