The audience knew from the beginning which song was coming and the summit was going to be enormous! This has been one of the UK's favourite songs forever!
You felt it the right way, girls. Thank you for bringing me back into my first time I heard this live. This EPIC buildup. This is the finest XX century art there is.
What most people do not know. Phil collins health has been deteriorated. I think he did this 8 years ago. I think this was the last concert. If so he went out on top🇬🇧
So good to see a mother daughter reaction channel. You girl's do a great job. You mom's an Angel, she's so truthful and I'm a senior who appreciates a woman like her and her reaction. Phil's Collins cand do it all. Write, Priduce, play Drums & Piano. He's a Pied Piper who I just don't know who doesn't have a song for them to appreciate by him. Rest in your retirement Phil you earned it.
Not only was PhilCoins the drummer for Genesis for decades, but ha a dide project ith Jazz / Fusion vand Brand X. He also layed with Led Zeppelin at Live Aid due to John Bonham having passed away
The first time I saw this performance it blew my socks off and I haven't found them since, this was an astronomical staging and production, out of this world and beyond.
He wrote this song about catching his wife cheating on him with another man and going through a divorce. Listen to the song again in that context and it will make sense. Phil Collins considers himself a drummer first and a singer second. He's amazing! This is real music!
This is a great live version! Phil Collins is best known as the drummer/singer of the rock band Genesis in the 70's & for his solo career. He has had so many great hits such as "Another Day In Paradise", "I Don't Care Anymore", "Against All Odds", "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Take Me Home", "Two Hearts", "A Groovy Kind Of Love", "I Wish It Would Rain Down", "You Can't Hurry Love" etc.
Phil came to everyone's attention as the drummer for the group Genesis. After the original lead singer left, he also became the lead singer for the band. He then had a great career as a solo artist. He does have a very powerful voice and was strong enough to sing while playing. Phil no longer performs on stage, mainly because of his health. He feels that he is no longer strong enough to sing and play the drums anymore. So instead of disappointing his fans, and wearing himself out on stage and giving his fans a subpar performance, he retired from performing. Great reaction to a fabulous song.
Partially correct. Due to nerve damage and back surgery he stopped playing the drums years ago (he no longer could hold the sticks). He just finished the last Genesis tour in 2022 singing from a chair. He hasn't retired but said that was the last Genesis tour.
A Legend and Master at work! Phil is a world class drummer with an outstanding voice. A true musical ICON. I am the only 1 who gets massive chills at the drum drop? Phil and this song are IMMORTAL one of the greatest performance ever given.
Don't worry about pausing, ladies! At least you didn't do it at THE moment, which others have done because they didn't know the song. I think a lot of us hold our breaths, hoping that it won't happen, and you didn't disappoint. Love your reactions!
Watch this whole concert... but in particular the buildup on song #1 is INSANE... and three sets of drums going at once. Worth watching just for that alone.
If there was ever a performance that can be called 'mesmerizing', this is it. Keep in mind that singing and playing the drums is extremely difficult, more than other instruments. The physical movement of drumming throws your voice off, and then you have 5 different rhythums you're keeping track of in your head (2 feet, two hands, and the melody)
Singing and SITTING is already difficult, because you're constraining your lungs and your diaphragm, but then playing the drums on top needs a lot of energy as well, and hence, air, so makes it that much harder.
@@ohauss You would think it would be hard, but it's not really. I've been singing solos at my church for over twenty years and sometimes I play piano while I'm singing. Now, singing and playing drums at the same time is a different story. I guess that's why there's not many singers who also play drums and I have nothing but respect for anybody who can do it.

If you grew up in the 80's this song will never leave your mind. My mind instantly pictures me as a 16 year old driving 100mph on a freeway near my house in pitch black (the atmosphere was unreal) with this song cranked to 11. Still one of my favorites ever and not sure that will changed. The drums part is absolutely epic. Everyone who knows the song instantly starts playing air-drums out of habit.
The song that helped make the 1980's television series 'Miami Vice' world famous. The city of Miami, Florida has adopted this song as their own. Epic performance...
The best reaction ever....you two captured the tone and mood of the live performance. The build up and then explosion of his drumming. I air drum to this song at work whenever it comes on and the younger staff applaud.....and I'm a proud 70 year old.
he did this with a crowd of 80,000, but they were very good behaver-ed for him but I don't think that I have ever heard the applause so loud, that they gave him at the end
Now this man has POWER! Phil Collins is a powerful singer, and impossibly strong drummer, and has a presence on stage mesmerizes everyone in the audience. I have idolized this man for years, and have tried for a long time to sing his songs right. Many people have praised me for my covers of his songs, but I know that I will NEVER be able to match him. Thanks for reacting to this song! You two need to react to 'Don't Lose My Number', 'Sussudio', 'Another Day in Paradise', 'Take Me home', 'One more night', and 'A Groovy Kind of Love' to get a feel for his music. He has a wide scope of music, and you need to watch him more!
You two take care and enjoy this wonderful & classic song and great video......... I am surprised at how good the boom mike Phil is using. Thanks to you both.... Is he focused or what??? Girl this is your channel, so pause when you like.. Do not pay attention to the Negative Nellies out there! You both know they are out there... They should start their channel... I am surprised you did not play your air-drums..... Thank you two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that great or what???
I would call it explosive, when the drums start...very dramatic video, very dramatic performance by Phil Collins..it must have been quite a momen there both for Phil Collins and to the audience...the lights, the darkness too, added to the entire experience of being there for sure...I can totally understand that they audience became this involved, emotionally as wel,as well as you two Generation Gap reactors...
Since you like Earth Wind and Fire and know if you knew this but Phil Collins collabs with Phillip Bailey to sing “Easy Lover”! Wonderful reaction! from the both of you.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
1st guitar lick...PUMPED!!!!!!! How frickin intense is this!!!??? Yep, same intense like nervousness. Gotta say I wish I was there for this live!! You can just feel the seething, burning anger coming off of him. GREAT Performance!! loved the reaction ladies!

@ 8:35 what a REACTION ( the daughters facial expressions were priceless)! Best reaction that I have ever seen on UA-cam..... That was a million dollar reaction.... Love your channel!!! and yes I SUBSCRIBED 😊
Can you imagine being in that audience? You'd be reacting not only to the build-up of energy from the performance but also the energy given off by the other fans, the adrenaline rush from that one song alone probably guaranteed that not a single fan slept that night but when they did finally sleep, they crashed hard.
To the daughter -- you are young, so you are forgiven. This is a masterpiece!!! In other reviews of this, I learned about a vocoder. Phil's sense of timing is perfect. It appears he is just out for a stroll, yet he arrives at his drum kit just in time for his iconic solo!! Everone in the world knows this drum riff...... Play your air-drums!!!!!!!!!!!! Both of you are correct in that it is a buildup! You two will see!!!! At 8:something boom there it is! I am uncertain which one of you two liked it the most. It is EPIC!!!!!! Mr. Collins is a master of his craft. AND it proves in this performance.. GREAT......................................... You two take care. Thanks.....................................
The song itself evokes an intense dark feeling of anticipation and dread. As if the day of reckoning is coming for the person he is singing about. I was lucky enough to have seen Phil perform live a couple of times. But it was way before he started doing THIS version of In The Air Tonight. What a masterpiece of showmanship. The crowd must have felt like they were both watching a live performance and a part of it at the same time. Thrilling!
Everybody knew what it was! You can only imagine how big this song was. One thing I always remember when I listen to this is Miami Vice, my favorite tv series ever
Great reaction ladies - thanks! Oh - the wise bass player with all the hair and long beard is Lee Sklar. He's played on over 2000 albums with everyone from James Taylor to Toto to Linda Ronstadt and has a UA-cam channel - very wise man indeed. And funny. 🙂
Oh Man, there will never be another Phil Collins!! As some have said, he was the drummer for Genesis when Peter Gabriel was lead singer. Then when he went solo Phil took over the lead vocals and the rest is history. Peter leaving the band was a huge favour to all of us because I dread go think what the world would be like if Phil didn't have the chance to shine. I saw Phil's first ever Top Billing performance with Genesis with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London, in 1972 a mere 50 years ago, when the original Top Of The Bill: "Bell 'n Arc" disbanded the day b4 the gig.
Phil is an icon and truely talented. This song really helped his solo career, in my opinion. Funko needs to make a pop of him ASAP. Great reactions ladies.
Love the expressions on yall's faces! When yall said 'it's building up to something...' I told yall through the computer 'yep, just wait for it bcoz it is awesome.' My favorite version of this one is when he and Eric Clapton were live at Montreux, Phil was drumming for Eric and then did In the Air at Night, it was the best.
He started out I do believe with a band called Genesis, I was blast when I was younger to see them at winter land in San Francisco He was the drummer. He does a lot of composing, and he is an all-around performer and artist. He’s a very high tech kind of a guy, and he originally is a Drummer, and then he broke away from the band Genesis on his own, but he will be highly missed when it comes down to his performances. This was his farewell tour of performing in front of large audiences on the song itself if you re-search it out because a lot of people have their own interpretations, but it was about his divorce and once you understand that then you can understand why the intensity and the emotions that you might feel throughout this performance just an FYI glad that you enjoyed the concert🤠
Ex genesis drummer turned lead singer after Peter Gabriel left oh love watching you both enjoy it ... Miami vice theme song in the 80s no cheap comment but your beautiful tell mom Hi ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
This concert has lots of great Phil Collins songs in it. One of my favorites is "Drums, Drums and more Drums/Take Me Home". That one is a crowd pleaser and has the whole arena singing along.
Phil Collins was also a pretty good actor....his Miami Vice bad guy made for great TV back in the 1980's. And yeah...at 6'6" I had the Miami Vice Jackets and pants!!! I always wore Cowboy boots...which elevate me closer to 6'9"!!! 😂😂😂😂
No auto play no lip-synching no glitter cannons no ass shaking just pure music and people actually playing instruments!!! my wife and I attended the show in Paris the electricity in the arena. The video does not do it justice.
Great Reaction to a superb song, excellently performed and I saw Phil's first ever Top Billing performance with Genesis with 3,000 others in Croydon, South East London, in 1972 a mere 50 years ago, when the original Top Of The Bill: "Bell 'n Arc" disbanded the day b4 the gig. I did keep recommending this as one of 6 wonderful Live performances and I know you have covered Pink Floyd: Comfortably Numb-Live" so we still have:- GARY MOORE: "Parisienne Walkways @ Montreux) and GARY MOORE; " I've Still Got The Blues For You in Paris" ...Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven at Madison Square Garden" and The Eagles: " Hotel California - Capitol Centre-1977" ALL EPIC so ENJOY LADIES😀
What an absolutely wonderful show. This is around the time that Phil Collins did a guest acting spot on Miami Vice, he played a fairly believable Bad Guy.😁
Great reaction to genius. Just as with Genesis (his 'other' band), things are so well done and thought out, very intentional. Phil Collins sure does know his stuff. Dramatic, intense, surprising shows he knows what he is doing. Well, after all he studied drama through 'high school' (or the English equivalent). His acting is quite good. Besides emoting emotion in his concerts, he can emote on screen. Check out his 'Phil the Shill' on Miami Vice (Season 2 Episode 12) and also 'Buster' (1988), a full length movie starring along with Dame Julie Walters. Such a confident talent!
Phil Collins has been a staple of my musical journey since the early 80s and everyone has heard this one if you’re a youngin you heard it in the Hangover movie. If you’re old like me you heard it when it came out and heard it on Miami Vice. I actually got to see Phil on this very tour in 2004 in Oklahoma City Oklahoma and it wa truly a bucket list show I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid. It has the most recognizable drum drop in existence.
Back in the day I paid no attention to Genesis or Phil's solo stuff. Then, Michael Mann picked this song for the memorable Miami Vice sequence. It has been on my road trip playlist ever since.
Great reaction you two. The slow build up to that explosive climax was a masterful performance by Phil and both of you exemplified the effect this has had on nearly everyone that ha seen it. Super job guys, well done.
Your reactions to the best part of the song when he hits that famous drum part was so cute, you make me smile. Both of you are so adorable. Love this song & this version is awesome
I think the dimly lit, blue lighted, mysterious intro was a representation of there being "something in the air." Watch it again with that in mind. You'll find that you can replace that feeling of "what is that" or "what's going on" with "there's something in the air... I can feel it."
I LOVE percussion and always loved Phil Collins…not many drummers become lead singers and his music was so cool for all the percussion. Even the Tarzan soundtrack was awesome because of his percussion skills.
Interesting that you mentioned the lighting. As I remember, Phil Collins was inspirational in the development of the Vera Light system (those robotic color/pattern changing lights) for his invisible touch tour, now a staple of show and theater lighting.
The audience knew from the beginning which song was coming and the summit was going to be enormous! This has been one of the UK's favourite songs forever!
Once you learn this was written in anticipation of his confronting his ex wife for a divorce the song takes on a whole different meaning.
The greatest drummer of all time that solo, says it all

Mesmerizing performance.
To see this icon today and what he must be going through confined to a wheelchair and not being able to perform is so heartbreaking.

And now, my 3rd comment. Phil performed this song live outdoors at Live Aid in 1985. It was just him singing and playing the piano.
Phenomenal performance!!!
Phil Collins has performed this LIVE many times. The one you played is from his FAREWELL TOUR DVD and is in PARIS FRANCE.
Great choice . Turned gray on my record player almost 40 years ago. Another good song is, Another Day in Paradise
Back in the day I paid no attention to Genesis or Phil's solo stuff. Then, Michael Mann picked this song for the memorable Miami Vice sequence. It has been on my road trip playlist ever since.
The anger slowly builds
I remember it from Miami Vice the TV series, it was awesome show, good song yeah 🎤👏😎
Great reaction you two. The slow build up to that explosive climax was a masterful performance by Phil and both of you exemplified the effect this has had on nearly everyone that ha seen it. Super job guys, well done.
Great reaction. Phil's performance of the song Mama is incredible.
That moment when Phil stepped into the drums and ya both started vibing. Too sweet
Interesting that you mentioned the lighting. As I remember, Phil Collins was inspirational in the development of the Vera Light system (those robotic color/pattern changing lights) for his invisible touch tour, now a staple of show and theater lighting.
