I'm seriously impressed by how well you did in identifying all the singers! There were a number of songs that came out at that time to raise money to help starving Ethiopians. The first batch was British, under the name "Band Aid," with the song "Don't They Know It's Christmas." Then Americans doing "We Are the World." Then Canadians coming together as "Northern Lights" to sing "Tears Are Not Enough." I'd really be interested in your reaction to that last one as quite a few of the singers were famous in the US as well.

Jones convened the marathon recording session of “We Are the World” at around 10 p.m. on the evening of January 28, 1985, immediately following the conclusion of the American Music Awards ceremony held just that night. There is a video of how this was recorded and who would sing what.
At 9:58, you can see actor Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers) and Harry Belafonte (Banana Boat Song (Day-O)). At 11:29 is Bette Middler (an amazing singer AND actress.) At 11:43 is the guitarist for Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham. If you haven't reacted to it yet, make sure to catch the original song for Africa ("Do They Know It's Christmas?") that was done about a year or so earlier by a bunch of British bands, including the likes of Paul Young, George Michael, Duran Duran (Simon LeBon), Culture Club (Boy George), Spandau Ballet (Tony Hadley), The Police (Sting), Bananarama and many more. Drums by Phil Collins of Genesis. I believe Kool & The Gang were in the UK at the time and you can see them in the video as well.
James INgram is the guy toward the end with a solo. He also had a part in the beginning. Al Jarreau was another that had a solo that you may not have known. They both passed away a few years ago. And YES...Kenny Rogers was VERY ruggedly handsome before he got plastic surgery. Even he said himself he made a mistake with that b/c it didn't go well. So now you need to do the one the European artists did "Do They KNow its Christmas Time" by Live Aid.
You were right to mention the other singers the Ladies forgot to mention. But you forgot Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Harry Belafonte, etc. Still, you did a good job !!!
Beautiful reaction, loved the joy on yall's faces when you recognized an artist you enjoy! Each time I see this video I have a mixture of emotions, the idea and collaboration was so amazing, the need for it was so devastating and watching it now, I feel a sadness about how many of those amazing artists we have lost.
That was a historic recording in 1985. All of these legendary artists getting together for a charitable cause. Classic song. Mama Gap and Baby Gap, you both did a great job recognizing all of those music legends.
There was a group of UK artist called BAND AID ''Do they know its Christmas'', who feature British artist such as George Michael, Phil Collins, Boy George, Sting and many more. This came out before USA for Africa. I know Christmas has come and gone, but you should play it sometime and see how many of the British star you know .
My favourite part is Cyndi Lauper's high "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" in the bridge .. She improvised it, after being asked to add something to Kim Carnes' part .. Kim was not able to give it enough intensity and depth by herself, so they tried having Huey Lewis and Cyndi do harmonies with her .. In the end Cyndi didn't want to overpower Kim, so Huey sang a harmony and Cyndi added her solo bit .. She nailed it !
@@buckeyegirl16 You may not know her name, but Kim had a massive worldwide hit in 1981 with "Bette Davis Eyes", which was No.1 in the US for 9 weeks .. It is still played quite often on radio, so there's a fair chance you have actually heard her because of that song .. Cheers, Wayne

Stevie, and Bruce, actually came back to where they were all singing, after they were all done, because they needed to fill in some minutes to complete the video.
Some people in the choir that didn't have solos included Bette Midler, Tito & Latoya Jackson, Dan Akroyd, Lyndsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac guitarist/vocalist) and John Oats. There were some others that I didn't recognize and maybe a couple I've forgotten but those are the ones I recognized.
A "Where's Waldo?".... Find a young Dan Aykroyd. He happened to be in the studio that day and was asked to join for the recording. The rest is history. :)
Dan aykroyd also appears by accident. In an interview he said he was there looking for a money manager when one of the talent managers asked him if he wanted to be in the video.
For a comprehensive list of artists involved in this group, watch the original video through the end credits. There's also a making-of video of this song.
I love how they share this moment and mother and daughter get emotional. Two different generations but with taste and feeling for good music and great voices. Never lose that connection because family is one. Congratulations and greetings from PARAGUAY
You ladies did exceptionally well to name as many artists as you did off the bat. I still struggle now to name a lot of the artists but I believe the singer after Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder is James Ingram. There is another version of We Are the World which is We Are the World 25 for Haiti that was released in 2010.
I love We Are the World 25 for Haiti. Of course the original will always hold a special place in my heart but the Haiti version is my favorite as far as arrangement goes.
This is one of the greatest feel-good songs of all time, in my opinion. It really is a representation of our society's potential to innovate and excel through diversity.
The singer after Bruce and Stevie was the late James Ingram. A couple of his songs are "100 Hundred Ways" and "Just Once," released by Quincy Jones, who was the band leader in this video.
Two that you missed in the first part, and don't feel bad a lot of people don't get these two, are James Ingram, he sings after Kenny Rogers and then Al Jarreau, he sings right after Willie Nelson. James also sings a solo part later in the song, which is who I think you were referring to. Also as they are scanning the choir, in the back you see Harry Belafonte, he was actually the person who spearheaded this whole thing, he first approached Lionel Ritchie and Kenny Rogers who then got the thing off it's feet. Anyway, standing right next to Harry Belafonte is someone you may not recognize, Dan Aykroyd. Also, there was a second one done in 2010 - We Are The World 25 For Haiti, the song was modernize for that time and includes new artists and a rap section.
Up there with Belafonte and Aykroyd, is someone else a lot of people don’t recognize, even though it’s almost certain that they’ve heard his music before. Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac.
The cause preceded the super stars for raising awareness and help needed in Africa and it showed how much empathy each participant had in supporting it. Such a worthy unselfish collabortation. They all put their hearts and souls into doing this. I admire each and every one.
You are so wrong, most of the artists here was asked by sir, bob geldof to be a part of band aid but turned it down, but when "do they know it's christmas" mad the impact it made they had to do something to not look bad in the eyes of their fans.
This is an awesome video with many musical legends. I love hearing the contrasting vocals, especially Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen. Another awesome video that I cannot stop watching over and over again is Dionne Warwick's "That's what friends are for". Dionne is joined by Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder. You can't watch this video without having a smile on your face and a fuzzy feeling at the end.
This whole creation was put together by Harry Belafonte, the Black man with the sweater singing in the back, an iconic entertainer, musician, actor and Civil Rights figure. He wanted to make an American version of what the British Band Aid production did the year before with “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” and then Lionel and Michael co wrote the song and iconic producer Quincy Jones produced it. My only fault with the whole thing is that one of the men who helped pioneer music as we know it, Smokey Robinson did not have a solo but with the Motown family, he was right upfront with the rest of them, Diana, Stevie, and Michael.
Weird fact. A lot of the singers here, including Michael Jackson, sang as backing vocalists on Donna Summer's 'State of Independence' before they recorded this song.
If we ever send out another probe like the Voyager probes, this song should be the golden record on it. Not only the song, but the video and the making of video
Is doctor James Ingram Then Michael Jackson's brothers and sister Latoya standing next to Bet Midler. Al Jarreau in the first part of the song with the deep voice. Also when the choir was Harry Belafonet, The Pointer Sisters, Sheila E. And Smokey Robinson
Another good compilation song is Voices That Care. Early 90s song for the troops in the first gulf war. Tons of celebrities and singing artists. Great video.
Band Aid was an association of British pop musicians with the aim of helping starving and drought-stricken people in Ethiopia in the mid-1980s. The greatest of all time. On Saturday July 13, 1985, Bob Geldof gathered the world's dominant musicians at Wembley Stadium in England and at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. Together, the two concerts attracted more than 170,000 spectators, while more or less the rest of the world followed the event live on TV. And it was incredibly big at the time. We didn't have mobile and internet etc. But seeing the whole world come together was amazing. I was probably 15 years old at the time and sat up to watch the entire concert, which alternated between England and the United States.
My favorite parts were Cyndi Laupers high note and the emotion she put into it and the second part James Ingram sang. If you like this, you should listen to Band Aid singing Do They Know Its Christmas Time. Just like here, there are a group of superstar musicians singing to support Africa except the musicians are all from the UK
I've watched many reactions to this video. You, by far, scored the highest on recognition of artists. Thank you for enjoying it so much. I remember when this first came out. It was inspiring to see them all get-together for such an important cause. It continues to inspire me.
Hey!! I really like your reactions. This song was released in 1985. It is the American answer (for lack of a better word) to the English group "Band Aid" song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" released in December 1984. By the way, the actor who played James Bond in "Live And Let Die" was Roger Moore

It's Band Aid. Live Aid is the concert. :)
I'm pleasantly surprised how many you recognized!! Cool
There was a group of UK artist called BAND AID ''Do they know its Christmas'', who feature British artist such as George Michael, Phil Collins, Boy George, Sting and many more. This came out before USA for Africa. I know Christmas has come and gone, but you should play it sometime and see how many of the British star you know .
other people in the video that I can remember at the moment is Dan Ackroyd, Smokie Robinson, Al Jarreau .
A simpler time when everyone was united for a good cause. Another great reaction
The one you missed with the baritone voice was James Ingram. He sang some of the Disney movies songs.
Yep. I never would have thought that those three would be so GREAT together.👍
Yes! And my other favorite is Steve Perry, The Voice!! Those are my top 2 here ❤
There are only 2 people, even knowing their names, I have never seen or heard of outside this performance. Kim Carnes is one of them. 🤷♀️
Why would Kim Carnes rate more highly than Irene Cara? Irene Cars had two major hits, the latest being in 1983 as to Carnes in 1981.
A absolut masterpeace thank you both for another fantastic reaction your the best 🥰👌
💯!..what a beautiful song, great reaction ladies!

Don't forget the gent conducting jazz great, arranger/ producer Quincy Jones. Also you got to look quick Dan Aykroyd ( standing next to Hary Belafonte)🎶🎶🎶🎶 As you stated the singer with the sexy voice was either Al Jarreau or James Ingram.
When Dionne Warrick comes in with "Well send em your heart so they know that someone cares". It gets me every time.
Happens often, that people forget about Bob Dylan (wrote over 1000 songs for collegues)and in the backline Harry Belafonte, who died sadly this year. (Greatness of the 70's and early 80's) Mom should know him...

You can't forget to watch "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid (1984), the song that started the whole African charity.
Wonder today how many artist would check their ego at the door and do something like this. Would be hard to find this kind of talent today I would think.
on the same subject for raising money for the 1983-85 famine in Ethiopia
in 1984 Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas" there is a B-Side when it came out where all the artist whish you a Merry Christmas
in 1985 USA For Africa "We Are The World"
in 1985 Northern Lights "Tears Are Not Enough"
Band Aid 30 "Do They Know It's Christmas" (2014)
Tears Are Not Enough performed at the 2022 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala
Reportedly they started at 8:00pm and finished at 4:30am. The final recording was done in one take.
A wave of iconic faces and voices that touched my heart, so happy I caught this before my bedtime, a great way to end my day, many thanks for sharing.
Amazing all rock star line up, a one time gathering as many have now passed. Put together so well by Quincey Jones.
That was a powerful song that resonated from 1985 to 2023... Thx ladies for sharing... 💋
Stevie, and Bruce, actually came back to where they were all singing, after they were all done, because they needed to fill in some minutes to complete the video.
And forgive me, but it is so adorable, taking a step back as I watch, to see mom and daughter in sync, moving the same way to the music. Adorable!
It was USA for Africa, surely🇺🇸
The man with the "low, sexy voice" was James Ingram. RIP.
You did pretty good. Two at the beginning that you didn't know were James Ingram and Al Jarreau (the deep voice).
Great reaction!
This beautiful song was re-released a few years ago with different singers to benefit Haiti when the earthquake struck. It's worth a viewing.
Band Aid -- Do They Know it's Christmas, primarily European artists from 1984.
Smokey Robinson
Harry Belafonte
The Pointer Sisters
Make sure to have her watch behind the scenes the making of usa for Africa so she understands why this was created.
A "Where's Waldo?".... Find a young Dan Aykroyd. He happened to be in the studio that day and was asked to join for the recording. The rest is history. :)
I miss those days..... I remember the day this was released.
Dan aykroyd also appears by accident. In an interview he said he was there looking for a money manager when one of the talent managers asked him if he wanted to be in the video.
For a comprehensive list of artists involved in this group, watch the original video through the end credits. There's also a making-of video of this song.
Neverever you will find so many Legends of Music in one Room again, this Year I become 60 Years old and I always have Tears running down my Cheeks
That’d been so dope to be in that room at that time…💯
I love how they share this moment and mother and daughter get emotional. Two different generations but with taste and feeling for good music and great voices. Never lose that connection because family is one. Congratulations and greetings from PARAGUAY
Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac in the choir. Outrageously talented musician.
I've listened to this masterpiece at least 60 times and it never gets boring. Unbelievably beautiful
The best Chorus ever orchestrated. None close.
so many years later and it's still actual.
This is beautiful. It could never be reproduced, a lot of these performers have passed away since this was made in 1985.
This is one of the greatest feel-good songs of all time, in my opinion. It really is a representation of our society's potential to innovate and excel through diversity.
The singer after Bruce and Stevie was the late James Ingram. A couple of his songs are "100 Hundred Ways" and "Just Once," released by Quincy Jones, who was the band leader in this video.
you named them ...Jesus ..proud of you
James Ingram, luv luv
One name you didn't mention is the conductor. The legendary master mind behind this song. The great Quincy Jones
Stevie wonder is such a legend what a voice
Willy nelson has been old forever lol..great song!! 🤟
Thiis is United States for Africa!
They made a remake of this song with today's artist. Thank you. First time for me watching your channel.
If we ever send out another probe like the Voyager probes, this song should be the golden record on it.
Not only the song, but the video and the making of video
For all the talent assembled here it is James Ingram's performance with Ray Charles that moves me most. Just beautiful.
Is doctor James Ingram Then Michael Jackson's brothers and sister Latoya standing next to Bet Midler. Al Jarreau in the first part of the song with the deep voice. Also when the choir was Harry Belafonet, The Pointer Sisters, Sheila E. And Smokey Robinson
i thought you were gonna forget willie. i was sitting here yelling like you cant forget willie! i've seen him live was a wonderful show. new btw!
You did a great job of picking who the singers were. The best I've seen so far.
The one after Bruce and Stevie was James Ingram.... You need to check his other songs out!
