Javelin fills a similar but distinct role to Ayanami, she's an evasive torpedo nuker. Her strength vs Ayanami is that her Retro skill gives her more damage stat on a timer rather than Aya's that works on the 5% proc chance, so you can time her torp launches to take advantage of that 30% increase on auto. Paired with her insane self-buffing evasion stat and the wide spread on her barrage she's an ideal auto-mode vanguard. A +10 quad homing torp launcher (already a very good choice for auto play) hits that 20 second mark almost perfectly. Competing against Sirius- and Shouhou-boosted Saratoga and Duke of York on my boss fleet for 11-4 she's got more MVPs than anyone else despite her apparent lacking appearance.

Javelin is my favourite ship, probably because first ship I got. Picked her simply because I preferred her design over the other starters. Run her along side cygnet because high evasion and Queen Elizabeth for extra buffs.
I use her as a dodge tank, and she can survive any air strike you throw at her. she survives lvl 110 owari da and akagi/kaga air strike most of the time.
Well that's pretty much her strong point compared to other starter ships. Though don't use her if the other team has Aurora and with the current META of PVP in SEA (Aurora etc/Jintsuu/Ayanami) she's kinda bad atm in my opinion.

And both Belfast and Takao have enough health to survive trop wave and kaga/akagi air stike. of course I dont acually use Jav, I replaced her with Ayanami. Hood/enterprise/saratoga , / takao/ayanami/belfast.
Javelin is the starter that CONTINUES to evade me...and I'm at Lv78 captain with about 10+ Lv.100 already. I grinded early maps, got the two foxes and do dailies all the time...yet Javelin never appears for me despite getting REPEAT copies of Laffey & Z23 (both of which are now retrofitted & decked out skills at lv.100).
Javelin eh... had her ready 4 retrofit, but then lacks blueprints. but overall, our hidden HMS Leander, your sweet heart girl next doors is up to more than regular task. and substain better FP while still maintain a managable evasion when manual( i have some issue of ramming when playing manual on full DD team, which accounted for 20-35% of Escort lost HP, so... =_=) An entertaining one. Keep it up m8. XD
Javelin is epitome is of High speed crack(im so sorry for mentioning drugs on you Javelin but pls, you and Charles can Run so fast i'll be back in the 90's) , of course Charles and Cygnet exist as well. and might be a niche DD combo to put her, Charles and XX(Random) on pvp just to make people sad 'OH why wont you die already?' Other than her eva Javelin is... Mediocre, Good but there are other alternative to slot in once or twice . doable for a meme build or The HMS build if Royal Navy is your thing. other than that Will looked forward to Cleveland and best gurl & CL; Helena :D
Update: She got 10% more Torp eff from the 12/22/20 patch She strikes me as a sort of prototype for the others as her kit has some flaws; like her evade buff suffering from hitting caps hard. But HMS DDs tend to suffer from going all in too much on evasion/related things as a general rule... so Javelin's the best HMS DD by miles. As for oath skins and destroyers? You're certainly not wrong though there's Yukikaze having an oath as well (though it might not have been out at the time of hte vid). But yes she is a nice lovely girl and I had that opinion even before episode 2. Even oathed her 3/11/21.

her evasion is off the charts. the umber of times in pvp im left with only javelin darting around the screen slowly eating away at the enemy fleet. even enty cant sink her 1 shot from my experience.

@@ArcherCat69 For some characters, gold guns are better (e.g. Z23 and Laffey). For most destroyers, their firepower is not deadly enough to dish out a lot of damage so people use the 76mm to spam their shots. Once the 76mm fires enough, the destroyer activates their barrage skill which can do decent amounts of damage if everything hits. So...the 76mm is used to spam their barrage if their firepower is lacking. Which is why most destroyers will be equipped with those.
You know the feeling you get when a starter finally drops and it had to be the one you already have? I was just finished retrofitting her as well. Time to mutiny at her place.

In other servers (JP), Ayanami is one of the starters that players can choose from. I believe the collection unlocks for JP is Z23. The other servers have Ayaya as the collection reward. So that's why I include Ayanami in the starter group!

Ok... I just started to play Azur Lane (almost 3 weeks now)... What the hell is this about "choosing the starter ship"? Was there an option? When I just started the game, some tutorial and what you know? I have Laffey on the screen. Never knew there was an option to select what ship I want to begin... And who or what do I have to sacrifice to get her? done many building (just to get Enterprise... yeah, I just began playing Azur Lane just for Enterprise) but never manage to build her... and I've burn cubes like crazy so far... the same for Cleveland... instead, got Clevelad... not that I complain...
I don't recall them changing the way the game starts out...you should have had that ability to choose between Z23, Javelin, and Laffey at the start of the game. I'm not sure how you weren't given that option. Enterprise and cleveland can be hard to get as builds. Cleveland does drop at a lot of other locations so you might have a better chance getting her by just playing the game instead. Enterprise, however, will take a bit more effort to pull her out of gacha...especially with the pool's size now.

And in that game my tutorial and froze up at the begining, and never could go back to tutorial. I had search everywhere to learn how to play it, because it is hard as hell... Anyway, I did get Enterprise, but had to sacrifice Polaris event (I began right at the middle of that event) to get her. At least I manage to get Gascogne nyu and Sheffield nyu... (lost tons of time due to cube farming and learning how to play the game...)
