IRL Ranger had her exhaust stacks protruding through the flight deck, so I think Rangers "stacks" blocking the deck is in reference to that.

Ranger is THICC for a CVL because she is not a CVL, but a fleet carrier. The USN's first purpose-built CV (langley and the lexington class are conversions).
She is small for a CV due to the limitations placed on the world's dominant navies by the washington naval treaty (the USN was alloted 137,000 metric tons of displacement for their entire CV fleet. Since the lexington class used up a bit more than half the alloted tonnage for CVs, they made ranger small so the USN can build 5 more CVs within the remaining available tonnage) (also the carriers that were already built or being built (argus, langley, hoshou, and furious) were considered experimental, and did not count).
Her reload stat is low due to her flawed design (not so good elevator placement).
The lessons learned when operating her was implemented when the USN built her successors the Yorktown class...
Her luck stat is high due to her being one of three pre-war CVs that survived WW2 (the other two being sister sara, and Enterprise)...
So Sister Sara, Ranger and Enterprise are the old american CVS? Interesting...
Unfortunately Lexington my favorite CV was sunk early on during the battle of the coral sea but went down swinging sinking Shoho and damaging another Japanese carrier mere hours before sinking.
She was the first fleet carrier ever built by US Congress
Just to point out, HMS Furious also survived the second world war. She was removed from service before the end of the war, but she still survived the war. So there were four CV's that survived the war.

She's probably one of the faster ones. Most light carriers are slower Escort Carriers. She's just a poorly laid out Fleet Carrier, which usually have 30+ knots in speed.

funny ive been pvping with ranger..with saratoga,unicorn,prinz eugen,san diego, montpelier because most of the damage is done by cv's..Ranger is usually mvp and carries the match while prinz eugen just wont fucking die. and san diego and montpelier swats a crap ton of enemy planes. might swap unicorn for illustrious to make prinz eugen just that much more frustrating xD

What you do as soon as you wake up, toss a coin 5x and guess the result. If you managed to guess all of it then put Ranger on your line up that day. Repeat & profit.
Would recommend Langley Retrofit as a partner. Langley has a skill that increases the reload speed of all light-carriers in the fleet, and Langley's two fighters help donate air power.

Ranger was my very first retrofit, and I haven't looked back on the choice. Still use her to this day on one of my bossing fleets, as both a method of clearing mobs before the boss (since the only vanguard unit is Phoenix) and as a way to potentially chunk the boss. I also find she just generally fits better on the boss fleet because her fragile health pool and inability to defend from suicide boats seems to make her more suited for shorter fights than longer ones.
Oh right, and also the fact that she has no fighters means she can't defend herself from planes either. She's entirely devoted to saving all her planes for a potential carpet bombing that turns the enemy to ash.

I actually like her original artwork more, because her carrier is a crossbow (Centaur has a bow like Enty and that already feels unoriginal). I also like how Ark Royal's carrier is a sniper rifle.

Excuse me hawk2zer0, I have question, do you use BlueStacks and if so, does BlueStacks link both the data from the PC and phone?, Because my birthday is coming up and I want to start playing azure lane, mostly from getting inspired to play the game from seeing your guide.
I use Nox. I would imagine Bluestacks would allow you to link your data between PC and phone as Nox allows it to as well. I don't think that's a perk of either emulator...and a design choice for Azur Lane in general.

Question does her skill quick take off help with the ssr carriers like enterprise?
It does not give that benefit to any other carrier...only those that have the skill can get bonus airstrikes.
This is why I've mentioned Long Island stealing MVP from Enterprise....because her chains can outperform Enterprise.

She's definitely not a Crane because her name means Kawa - River, Kaze - Wind so River Wind or something and as for her char design not sure why they choose Wolf (definitely not a Fox because of her not fluffy tail and the fact she's grey) but its probably reference on the Story of her being a guardian/protector of Nagato in AL

I love Ranger! I liked her as soon as I saw her design but I had already assumed "She's common so she's trash" and I just leveled her just to have that one waifu you like but you know she's not good. But when I actually started leveling her skills and gave her good weapons, holy shit, she became my favorite carrier next to Taihou 😍

I adore ranger, she's my highest level CV, and yes, I counter her as a CV because she functionally is.
Her and Lusty were the OG "huge displacement" girls as in before Taihou, Sirius, etc (IMO Prefer her base skin, cuter).
heh the ranger fleet ive been pvping and pretty much anything with is Prinz eugen(tank),Sandiego (because planes murder a carrier backline),Montepelier, And backline is Arizona (heals), Ranger (retrofit), Saratoga (retrofit). Its pretty rare for this team to loose in PvP against anything close to its fleet power. And watching Enty get rotflstomped by ranger because enty is one of the most OP carriers and sandy shut down the majority of Enty's planes. Been fun using this team. Considering sandy is generally regarded as trash except in AA..and seriously Enty is everywhere in(exercises) PvP and for good reason. But sandy/ranger generally work really well Sandy keeps planes away from the backline and ranger goes ship genocide on the enemy backline lol.

really need ranger in Warthunder for much better soft landings to lessen the crashing then slowly sliding off the edge of the aircraft carrier. (this is a really big problem in Warthunder, people(including me) dont know how to land on carriers in that game.)

I'd disagree with putting her in mob fleet, especially for later levels. Mob fleet carrier should at least have a decent armor AND huge health pool, or healing/support skills (in specific case of Uni/Shouhou). You cant do shit with Ranger's paper armor. Might as well give her Pearl's Tear if you try that.
Ranger works best in a manual boss fleet or EX stage fleet, since you would be resetting constantly when your RNG sucks.
I'd probably not use her in later levels...
It's not worth resetting and losing x amount of oil because RNG doesn't favor that. I'd just use a character with either good stats overall or one with better odds.
If one were to reset constantly...then I understand why you'd do that. But are you willing to risk infinite amounts of oil for a ship with a 15% at best chance for a second airstrike and a 25% at best chance for a double damage airstrike?

But it is in my honest opinion that she just doesnt fit a mob fleet EVEN in early game. Ranger is just too much of a glass cannon for low level farming. Shouhou with 1 extra cost is far a better choice
And losing a tiny amount of oil with resetting is worth it when use as boss fleet. Especially after your mob fleet has given their all in fishing out the boss for your Ranger -equiped boss fleet
Just imagine using Ranger in a mob fleet and after 2 or 3 fight, she died. At best, your mob fleet is less effective at fighting and at worst ,your mob fleet gets destroyed and you would need to use your boss fleet to fight mobs.
Really sorry but thats just my opinion.
@@ASBA1991 We value oil differently...resetting to me is a no-go. I've only done it a few times before.
I still believe she's better at mob than boss. It could be several resets before you even get a chain from her (15% is not likely which is a little better than 1 in 7 tries). Resetting 6 times just for the 7th to chain is a terrible idea. So that is a waste of oil. Especially for people that have incredibly low oil caps due to level...if they did that...they would run out very quickly.
If you don't reset...if she never chains, then she will be a bad pick compared to others for bosses for boss DPS. She might get away with it if she still has good equips and/or is over-leveled.
Sure in mob fleet she's frail...but not a light armor like the monitors are, so she won't drop that quick.
If she's taking damage, then players will learn to either protect backline better with BB/BC positioning, get a stronger vanguard, or remove Ranger entirely. There's value in the lessons learned there.
Once those requirements are meant...the RNG is a bit more favorable as you should start having a stronger team to help offset her weakness with RNG. There will be moments that she can shine, but the RNG does not favor it.
@@Hawk2zer0 Yeah, I guess we do value oil differently. I just dont think sacrificing a bit of oil per reset is that bad when you can get that sweet RNG roll on Ranger for those early levels. I always did that in my early days of playing since oil was never an issue in the beginning of the game.
But, now my lvl 100 Ranger Kai is permenantly benched ever since passing chapter 8. I have been exclusively using Uni and Shouhou for both mob and boss fleet for chapter 11-1 to 11-3 (while Enty for 11-4).
Well, I guess what i am saying is, I can respect that view. Let's just agree to disagree.

Ranger's runway is giving me Kai Tak memeories
I just have an exercise between the trio HMS and Enterprise. It got so close that it became a long range fight. Enterprise proc her OWARI DA! annihilated my QE and Hood, leaving a no HP bar warspite. She literally have no bar left, even the burn damaged is 0.
My PvP fleet have the quick takeoff trio (Ghosty, Baseball Bouge and, RNGer) vanguard or Indy, retro Portland and retro Suffolk and all CVS have gold steam cat and both USN CA have auto loader

I have almost no knowledge of naval history...so while it would be interesting...these videos would take longer to come out...

Hey Hawk, how to boost USS Ranger and with who she should be sortie with for best performance?
Long Island has a skill that boosts the AVI of friendly carriers for a short time after she launches a strike. As long as LI goes first, you get a nice damage bonus. Plus, she also has quick takeoff, so you can utterly darken the sky with planes from the 2 of them.

Benson can boost aircraft carriers as well.
Shoho also has support carrier skill, plus she heals vanguard when she launches planes. I normally team either her or LI up with Enterprise for just ridiculous dmg, but they work well with any CV.

Yiran Wang That’s because you have better fire rate and infinite ammo, a BATTLESHIP in wows reloads faster than Stalin Refrigerator in WoTs, and it’s only carrying guns a LIGHT CRUISER is shooting. So yeah you find RNG better in WoWs, because the shear amount of volume of fire everyship has RNG is meaningless.
