And I mentioned the Mig-19. I didn't even go into the CL-13 or F-86K...
I definitely agree, i had planned to stop at 9.7 but i realize those rank 6 supersonics are just not “that” plane. So i decided to use 10.3+ to learn supersonics and as an intro to top tier

Bro my first high tier was the f 104 A in the US tech tree. It was a rude awakening, because it didn't have flares, it had only 2 early IR missiles and relatively low ammo Vulcan. I had to learn the hard way to dodge missiles without countermeasures and how to get enemies in a boom and zoom style fight. Now that I have the phantoms, it seems so much more easy.

Tip: know your plane and your opponent’s plane as well. First, you have to know what it’s strengths and weaknesses are, same with the opponents. For example, if you’re in a J35 while your opponent is behind you in an A-10, get the advantage by going into a vertical dogfight. Awareness is critical with jets, if ur not actively fighting or stalking someone and really even when u are make sure to free look around especially above u. A lot of people like me who have played the game along time perch up high or off to the sides of the fighting area and wait for people to become distracted fighting and then swoop in and take them out. Knowing ur enemy's capabilities are critical too for instance what kind of missiles can this guy can have on his plane, how may can he have, can I out run him or out turn this guy are all things u should b thinking about when sizing up ur opponent. U always want to have the advantage if u can, either speed or altitude having one or both of those are critical. SPEED is life! Lastly, don't make the mistake of dog fighting to much unless absolutely necessary. It will kill ur airspeed and make u vulnerable. Make high speed passes if able.

The top tier is literally full of kill thieves, if you crit someone and they’re in a burning flat spin you best believe there’s an F5C sprinting down to nab that kill
I would also like to add that keeping your team alive is essential. You may win a 1v5 in props, but the way missiles, speed, and energy works at top tier, that is gonna be a LOT less likely. The enemy can reinforce their friends really quickly so you don't have time to separate them into multiple smaller fights. What this means is that your teammates need to stay alive. If you find yourself always being the last one alive on your team with most/all of your ammo, you didn't do well, you took too long. Taking too long is one of the main mistakes I see people make. You have to get in and get in the fight. If you shoot down a Phantom, for example, that's now EIGHT missiles your teammates don't have to worry about dodging. Every plane you take out is 4-8 missiles the enemy team no longer has. The earlier you kill that plane, the less chance it had to kill your teammates. Setting up for your kills, taking your time, and playing smart is all well and good, but if you've been passive for too long, it's largely your fault your team will lose. If you're watching your teammates lose a fight outnumbered from a distance, they're outnumbered because you're not there. I'm not saying be dumb and be hyper aggressive, just make sure you don't wait too long to get in the fight. You don't have to jump into the furball, either. If you enjoy a more passive playstyle, hang around behind your teammates and let them do most of the fighting, but be in a position to clean somebody off their tail. Honestly that's a good way to get easy kills, too. People aren't usually watching their back when they're lining up their own shots so that's a great time for you to shoot. Way higher chance of a hit, and you help a teammate. Win win.
Just put it simply don’t stick on a dogfight for more than 3 second. Top tier is missile thunder for a reason. The longer you stay on someone’s tail the higher the chance of you receiving a r60 or magic up on your ass. Finish the fight as fast as possible if it’s about guns and fox 2s. If it takes too long break off and extend away. Look around you a lot as well cuz you will need it
one thing what you could have added are the different rolls of certain aircraft and how to utilize them. just as example a Mig-21SAU cant be flown like an F-14 or a 23 as you are often relegated to a vulture roll and strike when the majority of your team is already in combat.
"Dodging IR missile is easy, drop a couple flares" Im using a controller on console I gotta scroll through 3 menues before I can use countermeasures dog 😭
Set the countermeasures key bind to R3 on a controller. (R3 is clicking the right analog stick if anyone is unaware). It's the best spot on a controller since you can still maneuver, look backwards, and fire simultaneously while popping flares. You probably also want to plug in a USB keyboard to your console for like radar settings, manual engine controls, track missile/bomb, etc. Countermeasures NEED to be bound to R3 if using a controller, trust me.
currently i use my iR missiles as frontal firing flare, when someone fires off an all aspect shot in close range merged headons (like those pesky su-.25ks) have your own IR missile head looking, itll lock up the enemy incoming boomstick and you can fire your own off, top that by going off burners and barrel rolling = 100% of the time the enemy missile and mine merge. Ive done this consistently in the Tornado IDS; J35XF, J37A mig21mf. hell even the phantom e2 can do it. im unsure as to how realisitic this is, it smells a lot like "gamecode" :D apart from that, good video :)
what i would also recommend, try to learn 1 jet that u want to grind ur Tech tree, watch some youtube videos about it (not only highlights, mostly reviews) there u can get ur +/- for ur jet and mostly a example how to fight other jets in that rank. Ofc it´s a lot information but u can get ur first steps and maybe future steps how to play the jet that enemys used since u get know pro and conts of it aswell.
Top tier has been tough to get into. This video has helped immensely and me and my kfir are doing much better now. The plane I kill the most seems to be the f14. Don't know why that is.
For other Su-22M3 or similar plane that carries R60s and doesnt turn too well, especially against F-5cs, Missiles will work, and guns too. Basically, bait them with the missiles, Su22m3 can carry up to 6 R60s, I rarely even bring bombs on it and just go rambo on planes. They tunnel vision most of the time enough to gun kill them. Also, learn optimal launch ranges. Too close with the R60 will make it not pull enough G's, Too far and it wastes its energy and fuel. Just enough can take an enemy by surprise as it burns its motors really quickly, and once its gone, the red square thing will disappear. They wont notice and they'll die. Flares also arent that needed, stay fast, stay low, and turn. You'll be surprised with how many missiles just decide to not blow or turn when you pull like, just 10Gs overload on subsonic speeds without afterburners.
Great video as always. Any chance you could make one better explaining how to use radar? I've been trying to get the hang of pulse Doppler in the F-4J, but I always seem to lose lock or have my missiles not track well.
I may do that at some point, it would take a good chunk of work though, and I want to develop my video making skills a bit more before I tackle that topic. Tim’s variety had a great video on radar of you wanna check his video out.
Here’s an actual term used by air forces and that’s jamming the wez it means you put your plane close enough to the enemy where you’re not in gun range but are close enough where a missile can’t pull enough lead to hit you.
4:00 o.O Really nice and informative video! Moving in one direction and then quickly changing it actually works pretty well for IR missiles too, as they also use proportional navigation, and it allows you to loose way less speed/energy. O7
If you want a plane that forces you to follow this advice and implement good habits. Play the F-104A You are solely reliant on your team, so stick by your teammates and keep the alive if you dont want half the enemy team on your 6. You must be situationally aware. A lot of the missiles you face cannot be dodged by your supersonic pencil so in order to survive you must constantly be freelooking to make sure noone is getting close enough to fire a missile at you, because unless its an aim-9b your only option is to just try and outrun the missile, which is only possible on the deck and even then several mach 2.5 missiles can easily catch you
After playing for almost three tears I still more or less avoid top tier. Took that long to become average in props and I just don't understand how to effectively fight in jets. Perhaps this video will help.
For the IR missiles, something that works only in a dogfight is to "jam the wez" which means the msl doesn't have enough space to either gather speed to manouver, or not enough space to turn towards you (I play DCS that's how I know)
The best advice is to keep your head on a swivel. The spotting system will not save you, as I have found too many times. You want to be able to see your enemy so you can take action. You also want to avoid the main cluster fuck as much as possible. It's too hot, too dangerous, there's a chance even friendlies will kill you accidentally in the furball. And if you have to go into the furball, keep your speed up and keep your eyes open for someone trying to kill you. There's also the fact you must know how to play your aircraft well. With the new Tomcat players, they don't know how to dogfight. Because I know my Crusader well, I am able to toy with the Tomcats and beat them at their own rate fighting game.
One of the ways I avoid getting killed by radar guided missiles is by hitting the deck. When you're close to the ground, the missile and enemy radar has a really hard time distinguishing you from ground clutter and doesn't get a good lock. Stay close to the ground with high speed and you can pop up when needed.
I agree, especially in maps that have terrain u can use as cover like mountains, hills, or canyons. It's a fun tactic for me when I fly the F5 that is such a fun plane
from my experience rushing in a mig 23mf is perfectly fine if you have r60mk's most do not expect it, but 2 days ago I did have some issues with this strategy, but i modified it by rushing through the middle of the map where all the AI planes are this way an f14's may mistaken you as an AI player and will not pay attention to you only works when you have not been visually detected (red name tag) and it has worked so far don't do this in any other plane it is a stupid strat, but i just wanna bully some f14's thinking they are maverick
I would love to play the to tier jets. But the most punishing about them are the huge repair cost. I got the Italy F-104S ASA and the stock repair is 12k and when it's fully speeded it 19k. Like why should I play something that will make me pretty much bankrupt. I would love to play it, but the repair cost is just way to much.
Trying to play f4c and getting stomped consistently no countermeasures when everyone else has them. Missiles do nothing as everyone just flares. Matches last about 30 seconds, I'm dead within about 5 and usually we lose. Genuinely a complete waste of time grinding for that thing and it's successor isn't much to write home about either. Gotta love it.
I find it hard to shed the prop plane/tier 5 jet mentality. Even at tier 5, missiles weren't a super common thing, and only a few aircraft would have them. Now that I've swapped to realistic air battles with the F5C, I'm struggling a bit. Some games I'll get a kill or two, but most of them end up with me back to the lobby with no kills. It's a different world when you can get blown up just like that. It does make getting a kill more satisfying tho.
So, basically the opposite of low-mid tier, my first instinct was "ok, idk how to maneuver in this speeds, im going to bnz this mofos and see gow much i get" i was the first kill, by an f14, nobody warned me that the enemies could have planes of the same country as your team
“Obviously everyone who has made it this far probably put has free look binded” Lol youd be surprised. There are so many level 1-10s with F-5Cs and SU-25Ks now
there's a thing you should cover for when R-27's or AMRAAMS get added, which is cranking, too lazy to explain it but it's a really important thing in BVR..
Wow perfect timing. I just got the game and the Mig-23ML. Hopefully this will allow me to do more than base rush. Any clues on how to not TK with the 24Ts?
How to describe Warthunder: low tier; prepare to have everybody gang up on you and vice versa, prepare for hours. MONTHS of suffering just to get to a decent tier where you can actually have the SLIGHTEST bit of fucking fun. Top tier; how the fuck are you not insane by now?
You forgot one major tip for top tier. DO NOT use bombs, it may seem easier, but it isn't, sure you get the prise at the end but it isn't rewarding and you have no skills or epic moments to show for it. Furthermore for each player carrying bombs results in one less fighter on your team, like it or not top tier is a team death match 100% of the time, and grinding is a hell of a lot quicker when you are winning. I know the brain dead gameplay is enticing I used to do it too, till I discovered fighters get way more RP for air kills than base destructions.
Depends on the game mode for most modes in AIr Acrade bombs/ being anoying win matchs at kleast for me as with the Swedish I only have the Premuim Draken as my Top tier with the rest of the Swed hanger being under teir 3 including 2 reserve planes... And I win most matchs with this fail platoon as I get 2-3.5 kills with the draken early in the match and just take out ground targets the rest of the match. Which you be suprised how effective that is at depleting tickets. Not only that I can act as a disraction/bate for the other team or score manuverbility kills on guys who can't fly. It works really well all in all and it's fun especly when you change the tide of battle with your radial engine bi-plane or get hits on post WW2 jets with a early WW2 prop.
Your advice is about a year out of date. Not bringing bombs is only a benefit if a player needs to gain altitude and fight at altitude. With the rise of extremely effective simi-active radar missiles, planes that only carry IR missiles have no good reason to go high so they have no good reason to not bring bombs. 10.3 is about as high of a BR where a plane that only has IR missiles can safely fly at high altitude consistently.
@@BulletRain100 no, I have been playing a crap tonne of top tier in the last few days and only 1 in 5 will ever make it to the bases. The 3 big problems with this is tactic 1: They slow you down and limit your ability to react if intercepted (and if intercepted most bomber players just get shitty) 2: Due to most of these planes not being able to drop bombs at supersonic speeds, resulting the need to slow down while flying near or through the cluster-fuck dogfight in the middle of the map and pay attention to the target you are bombing rather than to the R-60 flying at Mack 2 up your arse . 3: Top tier is always a team death match, so the tiny change in the enemy's ticket you make by destroying a base at the start of a game means nothing, the main fight is over by 5-6 minutes into the game anyway so re-gaining the lost tickets is no problem, so if you die taking out a base you died for nothing. I can see the draw to using the easy and "quick" (I found it takes just as long) method of bombing, modifications should be a fifth of what they are (why Gaijin), but the best way to learn dogfighting and how to fight in the BVR meta, stick to the flanks of the map and slash across the cluster-fuck dogfight attacking people who lost their speed and mostly avoid dogfights and try to keep the fight as close to your AF if possible.
that sure helped me in some ways, but... what if I am at top tier with no countermeasures, is there any other tricks I can do against R-60M's or AIM-7's when I am flying the F-104J for example, which has no flares I can use to fool em.
@@_Joob I usually try going away from my team, avoiding getting spotted by going Real far and hidind terrain, only problem are space F-14's with their multi launch missiles, but thanks to your doppler trick of flying side to them, the missiles seem to much worse on guiding
I can help. Su-22m3 despite having variable wing sweep cannot outurn most planes around same BR. However it is very fast because of its engine. The best tactic to use with it is to use the "hit and run" tactic. Basically, you intercept targets engaging your allies, being fast and preferably engaging enemies on their sides so they cant often see you or engage you if they do.
I have dodged magics in a MiG-21SMT before flares were added to it. You have to be fast with a little bit of altitude. You basically make a flat turn and as the missile starts to lead you, you pull straight down towards the floor and roll out to the opposite direction you initally flat turned to.

@@ryansaeger9271 So then what button do you have top open chat?
You need to bind countermeasures to your controller
currently i use my iR missiles as frontal firing flare, when someone fires off an all aspect shot in close range merged headons (like those pesky su-.25ks) have your own IR missile head looking, itll lock up the enemy incoming boomstick and you can fire your own off, top that by going off burners and barrel rolling = 100% of the time the enemy missile and mine merge.
You'll be surprised with how many missiles just decide to not blow or turn when you pull like, just 10Gs overload on subsonic speeds without afterburners.
thanks you, i have waited long for this
Great video as always.
This was so useful! Thanks!
When you referenced the "team player" bit all every Su-25 and MiG-19 player heard was "Steal my teammates kills to 'support' them"
Dead serious this video helped me much i was alive the whole round with bunch of kills thank u
Great video as always, could you please do a video on the f5c in the tomcat meta and in downtiers?
Here’s an actual term used by air forces and that’s jamming the wez it means you put your plane close enough to the enemy where you’re not in gun range but are close enough where a missile can’t pull enough lead to hit you.
Ah yes, actually needed this to know how to *not* die to F14s
4:00 o.O
Really nice and informative video! Moving in one direction and then quickly changing it actually works pretty well for IR missiles too, as they also use proportional navigation, and it allows you to loose way less speed/energy.
O7
If you want a plane that forces you to follow this advice and implement good habits. Play the F-104A
You are solely reliant on your team, so stick by your teammates and keep the alive if you dont want half the enemy team on your 6.
Thank you 🙏 i need this for when i reach top tier in 2 days
For the IR missiles, something that works only in a dogfight is to "jam the wez" which means the msl doesn't have enough space to either gather speed to manouver, or not enough space to turn towards you
(I play DCS that's how I know)
Sraams says hi at 90°+ angle
@@salvatoreg26 AV8 240x flares say bye
Very solid vid man
One of the ways I avoid getting killed by radar guided missiles is by hitting the deck.
It's a fun tactic for me when I fly the F5 that is such a fun plane
from my experience
rushing in a mig 23mf is perfectly fine if you have r60mk's
most do not expect it, but 2 days ago I did have some issues with this strategy, but i modified it by rushing through the middle of the map where all the AI planes are
this way an f14's may mistaken you as an AI player and will not pay attention to you
only works when you have not been visually detected (red name tag)
and it has worked so far
don't do this in any other plane
it is a stupid strat, but i just wanna bully some f14's thinking they are maverick
I grinded Italy to top tier, My ASA killcount is increased when I go against F14s and i've even seen level 20s flying the F14
I’m a level 40 f14 player it’s fun an easy to use
Just bought the 4fs phantom this helped a lot
I sure do love my radar beeping at my teammates so idk when it’s beeping at a missile
I’m here bc I unknowingly bought a high teir squadron jet and don’t know how to properly use it
Thanks for the guidelines will use when I reach top tier see you in 2077
My top tier was f-1000 but I’m now on the F-4 not the E version
what about the pheonix missile its a super missile that not even another F14 can dodge it
I would love to play the to tier jets. But the most punishing about them are the huge repair cost. I got the Italy F-104S ASA and the stock repair is 12k and when it's fully speeded it 19k. Like why should I play something that will make me pretty much bankrupt. I would love to play it, but the repair cost is just way to much.
ever flown the B59?
Fly it once and don’t fly it again for a few days. That’s why I run all trees, I always got something to play
But' the problem about positioning is that almost all of your teammte are going to be A10A or A6E tram we need update on grind
Question from a f14 main here: is it possible to outrun a missle and if u do what happens?
Trying to play f4c and getting stomped consistently no countermeasures when everyone else has them. Missiles do nothing as everyone just flares. Matches last about 30 seconds, I'm dead within about 5 and usually we lose. Genuinely a complete waste of time grinding for that thing and it's successor isn't much to write home about either. Gotta love it.
lmfao that mig 23 during your second background fight
nah but 6:46 was insane
I find it hard to shed the prop plane/tier 5 jet mentality. Even at tier 5, missiles weren't a super common thing, and only a few aircraft would have them. Now that I've swapped to realistic air battles with the F5C, I'm struggling a bit. Some games I'll get a kill or two, but most of them end up with me back to the lobby with no kills. It's a different world when you can get blown up just like that. It does make getting a kill more satisfying tho.
"you got your team to back you up" oh top tier has completely different teams as the rest of warthunder? can't wait :D
I have no top tier and this is some of the most ______ guide ever!
Little did he know the new jets that would be added to the game that do not care about flares or where you’re at on the board lol
So, basically the opposite of low-mid tier, my first instinct was "ok, idk how to maneuver in this speeds, im going to bnz this mofos and see gow much i get" i was the first kill, by an f14, nobody warned me that the enemies could have planes of the same country as your team
i like your channel and your videos, subscribed
Always ALWAYS remember to turn off afterburner so you dont run out of fuel. (Happened to me way too many times 😅)
Pretty good advice. I just don´t really enjoy it on the arcade sized maps.. The huge ones? Sure.
8:09 Oh look! A Rare Harrier G.R.1 gun kill!
im a bit late to top tier but this video helped a bunch:)
“Obviously everyone who has made it this far probably put has free look binded”
Lol youd be surprised. There are so many level 1-10s with F-5Cs and SU-25Ks now
Good advice 👍
The biggest roblem is that you grind your 12.0 airplane and have no flares no reliable missiles and no g-suit.
there's a thing you should cover for when R-27's or AMRAAMS get added, which is cranking, too lazy to explain it but it's a really important thing in BVR..
I’d like to make a missile guide at some point, when the time comes I’ll get to work on it.
Cranking is easily explained: Turning as far away from your target while still keeping within gimbal limits of your radar
can you talk about why the us have no vehicle with lazer range finder at 7/7.7 unlike the other countries
Wow perfect timing. I just got the game and the Mig-23ML. Hopefully this will allow me to do more than base rush. Any clues on how to not TK with the 24Ts?
Don't fire if any teammates are anywhere near your target
Any chance you have a discord coming soon?
its in the works. expect one soon. :D
Always looking to see if I’m getting gun downed in warthunder videos…I’m always expecting to be haha
I keep having troubles with g force and having to reset my flight path is there a button or something that can be bound to reset the pull and such?
How to describe Warthunder: low tier; prepare to have everybody gang up on you and vice versa, prepare for hours. MONTHS of suffering just to get to a decent tier where you can actually have the SLIGHTEST bit of fucking fun. Top tier; how the fuck are you not insane by now?
im in the mig 23 and, the f14 missles i cant dodge and i do every single thing i can do and they still get me
How can I play good in Mig21S Soviet premium air , it’s really need Skill issue , Please advice me
I try to kill enemies on my allies. Because the enemy is usually too focused to defend
@@GreenBlueWalkthrough i should have specified Air RB
Your advice is about a year out of date. Not bringing bombs is only a benefit if a player needs to gain altitude and fight at altitude. With the rise of extremely effective simi-active radar missiles, planes that only carry IR missiles have no good reason to go high so they have no good reason to not bring bombs. 10.3 is about as high of a BR where a plane that only has IR missiles can safely fly at high altitude consistently.
@@BulletRain100 no, I have been playing a crap tonne of top tier in the last few days and only 1 in 5 will ever make it to the bases.
The 3 big problems with this is tactic
1: They slow you down and limit your ability to react if intercepted (and if intercepted most bomber players just get shitty)
2: Due to most of these planes not being able to drop bombs at supersonic speeds, resulting the need to slow down while flying near or through the cluster-fuck dogfight in the middle of the map and pay attention to the target you are bombing rather than to the R-60 flying at Mack 2 up your arse .
@@Thunderbox247 it depends on the aircraft. With the A5C you can just bring the full loadout, drop it and get 2-3 kills
“Top tier jets require brain power” *r73 enters chat*
that sure helped me in some ways, but... what if I am at top tier with no countermeasures, is there any other tricks I can do against R-60M's or AIM-7's when I am flying the F-104J for example, which has no flares I can use to fool em.
I guess you would just have to position yourself differently, and hope your team can pull their weight. F104’s aren’t exactly meta Rn.
@@_Joob I usually try going away from my team, avoiding getting spotted by going Real far and hidind terrain, only problem are space F-14's with their multi launch missiles, but thanks to your doppler trick of flying side to them, the missiles seem to much worse on guiding
I have an su-22m3 and have no idea how to play it this helps me but the plane is heavy I can’t dodge/fight Like a fight can u help me with that?
Alr thanks bud
How do you dodge magics in the aj35, if you don't bring flares?
I have dodged magics in a MiG-21SMT before flares were added to it. You have to be fast with a little bit of altitude. You basically make a flat turn and as the missile starts to lead you, you pull straight down towards the floor and roll out to the opposite direction you initally flat turned to.
@@Boris_The_Turtle thanks for the tip, will try it later :)
Correction: "Every missle can be dodged. Execpt AIM 9Ls"
4:50 bro the chat😭
Nice f5!
So you cant start out in Jets?? U have to work your way up??
Thats putting it lightly, You start from WW2 planes and all their varities to the Cold war jets.
No shot that guy was taunting after failing to win a 2v1 for 4 minutes
4:49
4:45 don’t be like that guy “RedStarRelic”😂
Man the grind was hard. Taking the credit card out of my mums wallet was a trek!
I can't get to top tier please help me I'm at br 4 my latest plane is a bomber b26b and that's br 4.7 but the rest of my planes aren't any better than br 4.3 I have fun but it's so long and I just can't.
How long would it take to get to top tier without free look? Sounds like a nightmare.
Early lesgo
- join the army/air force of your main country
- train on your preferred in-game vehicle
- gain access to sekrit documents
- leak them so they'll buff your preferred vehicle
Thats my actual plan
I don't think you rebind your c key (free look)
I don't mind to suck at top tire at least i made it i have all the elements grind is B in this game after all the Job done i will enjoy just enjoy the game that will be my target at the end
f4E- high alt or low alt? cause im on the verge of losing my sanity
You said to drop chaff against the f4e but with my experience in the f4 the dogfight 2 mussels don’t care about chaff 😂
Chaff don't work in headons with all sparrow variants, it is because they have a cw seeker head that filters chaff.
It’s probity easier and cheaper just to become an actual pilot lol
For the first tip I actually usually go the opposite way as the lemming train. What usually happens is I climb up high will notching then dive down on the enemy from the side who are usually flying away from me focusing on the lemming train that went opposite direction from me. Very easy way to get 2-3 kills.
