Great tips. I wish I’d known the tip about fitting when I started. I thought if I bought my size I would sew it and wear it. lol But not so because everyone has bumps and lumps and the garment will likely need some nips and tucks. Fitting is something I’m still learning.
    Thanks Lauren for the video.

I highly recommend Muna and Broad sewing patterns, especially for plus size beginner seamstresses. The Torrens box top is a great pattern as well as all the trousers! For example, Birchgrove and Sculthorpe elastic waist trouser patterns are terrific. Size range will cover sizes A-M, covering 40-64” bust and 41.5-71.5” hip. (118-181.5cm) hip. @munaandbroad

I love the Banksia Bralette for my daughter, she has Down Syndrome and ready to wear just does not fit her, but this one is awesome. The sew alongside from these ladies are awesome too.

The Remi Raglan is a great starter pattern. I've made several BUT the instructions are for French Seams which are a bit tricky for beginners. It can be made without French Seams but will come up slightly larger.

Totally agree. It took my brain a sec (and a few mistakes along the way) trying to make sense of it. Once I got that part down, it is hands down my favorite pattern I’ve sewn so far. I love the raglan sleeve, it works well for my broad shoulders. I’ve made two versions so far and have a fabric already purchased and prepped to try the button-down online hack. It’s so versatile!

I really enjoyed your tips on sewing. What is a good A line skirt with pockets pattern?

Absolutely agree re independent pattern companies and more thorough instructions, in general, these smaller companies are 10 times better for beginner sewers.
