Trip from Tokyo to NIKKO, JAPAN | Places to Visit, What to Eat & Ryokan Stay 🇯🇵🍂

- Taking you with me on a 2-day healing trip to Nikko, Japan, a small city in the mountains located 144 kilometres up north of Tokyo, and is home to some of Japan’s most enchanting nature trails, waterfalls, hot springs, zen gardens and shrines.
The fact that Nikko is located further up north means that Autumn begins earlier here. We'll start to see Autumn foliage since mid-October, making Nikko a scenic place to visit during this time. One of the biggest highlights of this town are "The Shrines and Temples of Nikkō", listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it comprises of 103 buildings or structures and the natural scenery that is around it. Toshogu Shrine was undeniably one of the most lavishly decorated shrines I have ever come across in Japan, from its wooden carvings, vibrant colours and hints of gold.
Although what I've filmed would not be able to capture the true beauty of this town fully, in this vlog, I hope to show you some things to do/places to visit/eat in Nikko (not only in Autumn, but throughout the whole year), as well as places to view the beautiful Autumn Foliage. I hope you enjoy this vlog as much as I enjoyed editing it! 💖 Hope this will be able to act as a travel guide for you if you are deciding on going on a weekend trip or day trip near from Tokyo :)

This is a really good video. Love the editing and the pace. Ah... Nikko. I´m Brazilian, but I lived in Japan in 1998 (I was 26). I worked at a hotel in Kinugawa-onsen and lived Nikko (or, rather, at the time the placed I lived was called Imaichi. Later it was integrated to Nikko). I spent almost a year there and went to Nikko every time I could, by train or even by bicycle.

I never thought of staying overnight in Nikko! I had no idea there are onsens there!As for favourite places in Japan, I love Kanazawa. Matsue is charming but might be a little quiet for you. Takayama (but I hear it’s become crowded with tourists since the Shinkansen) but I still want to go back with a stop at Gero onsen. I miss Japan. Wasn’t Nikko amazing? The last time the white structure was under scaffolding (but there was also a parade of samurai soldiers so win there!). Great episode ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! ❤️ There are actually many nice onsens in Nikko! I’ve never been to any of the towns you’ve mentioned, but they look so nice! Takayama and a few towns in the surrounding area are still on my bucket list! Nikko really was amazing and the food was so good 🫠 The parade of samurai soldiers sounds like an amazing experience! In my case, it was a parade of school kids on a field trip 😂
@@absentabroad the Takayama Festivals (spring and autumn) are supposed to among the best in Japan. Hotels are hard to come by and I hope to attend one of them someday. I think Autumn in the Japanese Alps is the season to go. ❤
And do add Kanazawa to your list. One of Japan’s top 3 gardens, home of Kaiseki, Sea of Japan sushi, walkable!

It was a 5-10 minute walk! :) Not as challenging as a hike :)
Now I am definitely planning a 3 day-trip to Nikko; as part of my Japan trip. I love your recommendations. As for travelling around Nikko, did you hire a private car? I will be travelling alone so I am researching for the best way.
thank you!! i’m glad my recs helped :) yesss,i hired a private car but it’s also very accessible by train - however to get around places and for more sightseeing, i think a private car would still be the most convenient option so you could considering renting when you reach nikko~

thank you for watching! 💕 i rented a car for this trip, but nikko is also accessible by train from tokyo, and the temples are all quite near to one another :) some of the ryokans also have shuttle buses so it’s quite convenient to get around~
