Am I the only one who thinks these pikmin themed system transfers are adorable?
You are NOT alone. I just did a New 3DS XL transfer, and it took a few hours, but the pikmin made it worth the wait.
Do both consoles need to be connected over the same router or can I do this over distance?

Good Question! You can buy another cable (cord with yellow, red, and white) from your old Wii or you can buy one. The only problem is that you won't get HD from your HD TV.

Man this was surprisingly emotional for me... I nearly teared up as I saw all my games from the past 7 years being loaded up onto a rocket ship by pikmin... That's so damn cute and it reminds me of the great times I've had with Nintendo... Thank you for the last 7 years with my Wii. I won't be selling it, I'll be putting it away in it's original box and keeping it forever. Thank you Nintendo.

I'm not alone. With Miiverse ending, I decided to do the transfer at last. It was quite sad to see the data Pikmin leaving the Wii to board the shuttle to take them to the Wii U. It was the music that did it for me.
If I do take out the Wii again, it'll be to play GameCube games.

Technically it’s not up to 2017. That was when Nintendo announced they would be closing the Wii Shop Channel for good.

Uh... like Ben Johnson said, the Wii Shop Channel is still up and running in 2017! This is on both the original Wii, and on the Wii Mode on the Wii U! You can still purchase Wii Points digitally and purchase games from the Wii Shop Channel and download them on a Wii Console or Wii U console in Wii Mode today! In fact, I just purchased a WiiWare title last week! Most Online Interactions for the Wii have been discontinued, however the Wii Shop Channel is not one of them. On top of that, the Nintendo Pay & Play Service (Which is basically Wii's version of DLC), Video-On Demand Applications (Netflix, Hulu, & Amazon Video), and System Update (even though there hasn't been one in about 3 years) are all still active and will still connect!

Just saying, an actually decent account system similar to Sony and Microsofts would fix a LOT of the frustration here.

Once I started watching the little Pikmin carrying my files, I knew I was in good hands.
Thanks for making it so easy to follow to transfer from Wii to Wii U. Our Wii disc feed broke after warranty was up. (We could pay $75 to fix it.) But, we didn't want to chance losing any data. And my kids decided to chip in extra and get the Wii U Bundle since it came with two games they wanted. Now they can play all the Wii games with their old game data. So glad this was an option!

Please add cross buy, Nintendo!!! If I bought VC games on your E-shop store, I should be able to play them on all your hardware (Wii, Wii U, 3DS). More convenient to your customers and less headaches.

this is a stupid transfer system.ps3 has a way better system.you don't have to download anything you just use the ethernet cable to transfer.
So what happens to the SD card after the transfer? Can it be used for other stuff too like cameras or other game systems and stuff?
From what I know, the SD card will be formatted by the system, meaning it will be ready to use for any other device you might want to use it for.

It will be re-formatted, I'm not sure if the format used can be accessed by your other devices.

The reason I haven't performed this yet is the fact I can't select what I want to transfer. I liked this about the Dsi to 3ds transfer, so why can't you do the same for Wii to WiiU?
People can buy wii's with tons of VC and Wiiware, move it, then resell it with all the game s on it.

This is stupid, I still use my Wii for Wii games and don't want to lose all of my data just to play Xenoblade on my Wii U, I guess the only solution is to make a backup of everything on my Wii before I do this? Why couldn't they have just made it copy the data instead of deleting it.
If they did that then people could buy Wii's with loads of WiiWare on them, copy it to the Wii U, and then resell it.

I like what they did with the progress bar at 1:54. I watched the whole thing during my transfer. My Wii games look so much better now I can zoom out than the 480p component I used.

Yes, you can contact Nintendo customer support and they'll be able to take care of that. They did it for me. I had the same thing happen. I regret it though. Just to be forwarned, my wii started to "semi" work again, and I can now play it in maintenance mode. However, I have wii shop points that I want to use to download games but the channel will no longer work because of the transfer. I have all of my original Nintendo systems and it irks me that I will not be able to keep the wii downloads on they're respective system.
This seems ridiculously time-consuming. Can I still download N64 games on the Wii Mode of the Wii U?

Man! I played DKCR on my Wii U and it deleted all my saved data to replace it with the saved data from my Wii!!! I was so close to finish the game now I have to start over again!!! I hate ir!!! Nintendo why dint you give me the option to select the content I wanted than to replace It? Now I really don't want to play DKCR
I'm pretty sure they warned you that transferring your data will replace your Wii U's Wii data. If that is true, then it's your fault you didn't read.
I just did a transfer yesterday, and it was indeed very funny and charming. I LOVED this.
I really regretted transferring over. Just the fact Nintendo has not done a firmware update which could allow you to use gamecube controllers for the wii virtual console games on the WiiU. I always played N64 games with a gamecube controller on the wii, but now, nintendo also doesn't sell classic controller pros anymore. But, perhaps more n64 games will be released on the nintendo eshop I guess to compensate.

I regretted transferring my Wii data too. I was lucky enough to get a classic controller Back in 2011. However, I loved using a GameCube controller because it just felt nicer in my hands. You can buy a classic controller on Amazon still, but I prefer GameCube controllers. :(

I'm not sure, but you can copy save data from Wii to an SD card, so, probably, if you copy the data to an SD, use transfer data in another one, and then copy the saves from de first SD it'll work.
ETA: yes, it works, and you can use the same SD

If you have the wii u transfer on the original wii then yes if you don't have it you can't download it again because nintendo shutdown the wifi for ds and wii

Fast Gamez IDK, but for whatever reason it still works. Maybe because Club Nintendo is shutting down and some of the rewards are virtual console games for the original Wii U.
Fast Gamez Nintendo only shut down the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Server for Online Play, Everything else such as using Video Streaming Apps, Wii Shop Channel, and so on so forth still work, meaning that you can still get the System Transfer Channel.
