I am currently 42 y/o. I stopped drawing when I was 18. A few years ago I started up again. One of the biggest regrets in my life is that I stopped drawing. Those 24 years I will never get back. If there is any advice I have for you young artists is this...... don’t stop drawing!!! I always wonder what would of happened if I didn’t stop.
JCee911 My mother is the same. She started drawing again at about 46. Her biggest regret was not doing it her whole life, she could've easily made a living off of it, not to mention the years of potential practice she has lost.
@BluAirsoft - ty for the reply. Thats what gets me every time, the years of potential practice all lost. Even if I did it an hour or two a day. I rack my brain and say to myself all that time I will never ever get back. What I am doing now is not dwelling on time lost but on time I have ahead. I am young still so who knows right. Tell your mom to just look ahead and wish you mom GL!
man i soooo relate to that jcee911 i stopped in my twenties after about a solid ten years of drawing in my teens,i was good but not mature yet so my mind wasnt as open to learning as it is now,im now 51 and just started to draw again, this time i have so many new tools at my leasure like internet being a big one haha lots of learning tools, but i do think of how my work might,ve looked if i never stopped but hindsight right....:)
So inspired and impressed by someone so young with so much talent and wisdom. I just started painting about a year ago (I’m 59) and drawing in the last few months. Sometimes it can be so discouraging. I am doing watercolor and have some things that I like, but if I try the loose style, it all goes awry. And drawing is a real challenge, but I can see a little progress. I really love the painting and drawing and hope to be able to get good enough to do a travel journal for an upcoming special trip. Trying to get better at drawing quickly and capturing things with fewer lines. Thanks for the great videos! Happy Birthday!
Dan, I am a subscriber, I have learned so much from you. This vid today is exactly what I needed to hear. I am befuddled at the moment. My concern is that I took a picture of my drawing that I felt was very good, but, the picture I took does not give me the same satisfaction. Any comment? I enjoy all of your vids , they are all helpful and interesting. I had stopped art work for quite a few years, and I ,too, am regretful for having done so. Thank you Dan.
Shout out to all the people who dare to continue drawing even after getting criticized by peers and teachers! Don't give up, we'll make ourselves proud someday
Happy upcoming birthday. I'll be 59 on Jan 31 and I've been doing art since I was very young. I have a career as a graphic designer but fine art is my passion. Good advice for those just starting out. I really admire your work and work ethic.
10,000 hours to be a master expert at something is right. I am 72 and I look back at the things I did over 10,000 hours and I come up with a half dozen areas of expertise. Your explanation of process, and having interim goals, not letting mistakes get you down, and self-revelation and using yourself as an example is very motivating. I believe you are centered in the right process of living, and documenting one's journey (like the videos) is so beneficial. I set up my camera over my drawing board, and am making videos now for my friends. LORD DO I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN. I try to figure what is important enough to do 10,000 hours now as I approach the upper limits of age for starting new stuff. I am always wanting to learn all I can on everything. Creativity is the process of life at its best. FABULOUS VIDEO. I think you have it together, man!
Really inspiring! I know exactly how you feel about artists never feeling satisfied with their art and it can be very discouraging. But like you said, learning new things and moving forward is important. Keep up the good work! (Happy birthday!)
Loving your vibe, lifelong learning is the key, never feel you've reached your destination, there is always new ways, new tricks, new styles to learn, you are an inspiration to me, Happy Birthday for the 30th my the way.
thanks dan love your work and your videos, sometimes its good to hear these type of videos to keep us going ...i like your ability at putting things into perspective..keep up the great work..i look foward to seeing more...:)
Thanks! Your speech is very motivational! I subscribed and watched all of your videos! I appreciate so much your technical approach to creative art, I was excellent at technical drawing at the high school (people paying me for having their tech draws made haha)but my very path is the freehand 😉 and thanks to you I'm filling my new sketchbook with a renewed passion. Really thanks. Good things to you and to all who loves art. The greatest thing I've heard from you is "don't look at the other's work and get discouraged, but instead get inspired"
I really enjoy your content. I'm at a point in my life where I'm reconsidering my career path. My dream as a kid was to go to art college. I'm currently trying to improve my skills in order to create a portfolio and the information you're sharing here is gold, thank you.
im 22, people always said i was talented even though i never actually dived into learning how to draw and its one of the reasons i'm unhappy about my skills but i know its becouse all the lazyness and fear of making mistakes (sometimes im actually afraid of grabbing a pencil)
Thanks I really needed to hear this. Happy birthday in advance. We all appreciate your hard work and the contrast in your videos to keep us all interested. Continue being the best as usual. All the best wishes from me🎂
Happy birthday anyway, you are so young.. keep going making this kind of videos.. and thank you, you inspire me to keep drawing.. wish you always healthy and have good fortune..
I love you, I love your vids you are my inspiration, my idol, I wanna be an architect like you I wanna fallow my dream You are the inspiration of thousands of people YOU ARE THE BEST!
Great video! I find that if I do not like something I put it aside and then look at it in few days. Many times I will change how I feel about it and even come up ways to fix it
Hi Dan! I'm interessted in drawing, I guess thats why I'm here right now. Since a few month I have a special interest in architecture or product design, well, as you said in several videos you're studying architecture right now so would it be possible to make a video about what you doing and what you'll do and expect after your studies?
I randomly happened across this video and as it played I scrolled down through the comments out of curiosity. Then, as I got more focused on the text I began to realize that your voice became sort of a soothing background tone. Has anyone ever mentioned something similar to you about your voice? (This isn't "a line" or anything weird like that.) It just caught me off guard. I listen to relaxation audio clips so, that's what I'm comparing your voice to. So, just know... if the drawing dosn't work out, there's that as a backup! (heh, heh...)
Even though I’m not good at it I love drawing and I really want to get better at it but I don’t know where to start. Every one says practice makes perfect but I don’t know what to practice? I usually look up other drawings and try to draw them but Its not all that great. I would like to draw without having to look up other drawings but every time I sit down with a pencil and paper my mind just goes blank and I don’t know where to begin or what to do. Idk anyone help ? I’m not as much a beginner so to speak I know the basic stuff like shading and perspective. Should I just continue to do what I’m doing ? Is there a certain thing artists practice on when “starting off” ?
Happy Birthday, in advance🎂🎂🎁😅you are very young... jajaja like me 😂😂 it's a good advice, but sometimes it's normal to get frustrated, in these cases you need a new paper blank.
I'm currently discouraged drawing but here I am trying to peek through this type of videos
