As a father myself I can't imagine the pain of losing my daughter. I am forever grateful for her health and for being able to ensure her wellbeing... I fear letting her go in this utterly spoiled world when she will grow up, but it cannot be helped. Nobody tells you about the challenging feelings you experience as a parent. My daughter is barely almost a year old and I already think about this all the time. The laugh and smile she has is so amazing and innocent. That blissfulness only last so long before we grow up and all of life's harsh truths hit hard.

Oh, man. I've never married, and do not have kids. But that "Daddy" makes me miss my daughters so much, that it hurts. Can't even imagine you. Wish you will see them soon. And if that's no longer possbile, I wish you will find peace! Dear stranger, stay strong, stay with love 💖
all love to you i am estranged from my father (his choice) he created a faerie queen warrior and then sought to control her. we will meet again, you all will sea
@@uamiable i am training my daughter follow her curiosity and wonder so she will always be thinking and learning, to hone a sharp wit. I remind her to appreciate and take care of her body, encourage her to stay active and moving, seeking adventures, so she can be a confident warrior. She feels she has the soul/essence of a wolf, i let her know how special she is to me and how impressed and proud i am of who she is. She relates to me well as we have agreed that i have the soul/essence of a fox. (although when she was 2 or 3 she told me one day without any prompting that i was a penguin and her mom was a bear, and i found the judgement incredibly perceptive and wise, so i guess i am something of a fox-penguin, or a penguin who wants to be a fox...idk.. but i digress) For now we are very close and she thinks I am the coolest guy in the world, i am really lucky for that because i am not actually all that great, i am quite flawed. she is 9 now, but i know in just a few years as she enters the goofy and sometimes confusing place between child and adult she could grow to resent and/or reject me. idk what i would do without my eager, happy little warrior philosopher queen. i don't know anything about your life, but i am sorry to hear you are estranged from your father. that kind of thing can hurt, no matter how much you try to shrug it off. although there may be distance between you now, if he raised you to be his faerie queen warrior, it sounds like there is a genuine bond between you that could still be rehabilitated. everyone is a fallible human, we all mess up, give in to temptation, surrender to our demons, and hurt the people we love. cuz life can be rough. some parents are really awful, and should never have had kids nor do they earn the title "dad" or "mom", but i think every single person needs to be able to forgive their parents at some point, for their own sake. holding animosity towards your parents is like holding on to a hot coal, you are only burning yourself. maybe things won't change much, you might still remain estranged, but at least you would unburden yourself from carrying some of that weight that can eventually crush a person. you say it is his choice you are estranged so maybe you have already forgiven him and it just is what it is, but from one father to a random daughter out in the world, i love you, i hope you are doing well and i hope someday you can repair some of those tears in your heart. i love my girl so much, she is truly my life, and she helps keep my world fresh, beautiful, and wonderous. thank you for letting me share.

When you think about it, something must be really f*cked up if you can't normally shed tears nearby someone when you're a man. And they say patriarchy, lol...
I love this song so much but it’s really difficult for me to hear without getting teary eyed because it feels very personal like it speaks directly to my heart and my experiences. This song to me is about a father-daughter relationship. A father who lost his daughter and is trying to cope. I’m fighting with my own demons everyday and this song reminds me of my father who I don’t see anymore. He’s far away all alone, hunting, trying to deal with his demons.
We are all fighting issues inside, mental health is a serious issue, I’m damn sure I’m going to let my parents know my problems, my dad is 80 and my mum is 77, they have their own problems. I’ve only told one person about my problems but she sadly passed away several years ago, so nobody knows now....
I'm a father who has a daughter whose transitioned removed her breasts and always loved my little girl and I have trouble with what she decided to do or done and I miss her! 🙁

This song is a reminder that there are so many lonely people in this world, whether rich or poor, developed or developing countries fighting their own personal and inner "demons. This thing call life is so fleeting though some would think they are immortal. Despite all that, we have to live and give, take nothing for granted, breathe and cry, laugh and eat, make love, give compassion and look out for your neighbour, even if it once in a while...check in on families an old friend just to say "Hi". Even if you have only one piece of bread please share with someone in need. PEACE, LOVE, HEALTH & TRAVEL LIGHT::))))))

This is the most heart-wrenching music video ever. It just brings me to tears seeing this man, this father unable to cope after the loss of his daughter and how he just cant move on, still seeing her. When I hear this song I can't stop thinking of what happened at Mati Greece, "The burning houses and the trees,I remember running to the sea" exactly what happened on 23/07/18 so much pain and fear for many people "when the darkness killed their light".. Such an old song describes exactly the tragedy happened to my country nowadays.. So beautiful and meaningful song... ⓖⓡ

You never get over the loss of your child. You see her in the crowds. You see her in the mist. It hurts so bad. For decades. Then the pain finally becomes a dull roar. We will suffer that loss till we die.
The video is so heart braking. One can really feel the pain of the father who desires so much to see again his child, only to realise over again that she is completely lost and he will never have her again in his life...
The expressions on Paul Michael's face are so moving. Sorrow, grief, tenderness, longing, acceptance, numbness, loneliness. He conveys the deepest emotion without a single word -- it's incredible. An amazingly talented artist, and the same can be said for Lauren Rothery's direction. I feel like crying, I feel sad for people I've lost, I even feel sad for people I haven't lost but will lose one day.
Well said. This is one of my favourite music videos of all time. A significant proportion of that is due to the emotions that Paul expresses so perfectly. This video is perfect and I'll watch it many times more. Most of those times, I'll cry.

In memory of my very brave friend Evita Fytrou. Evita lost tragically her life among 102 people on Monday July 23 2018 in Mati, Greece after witnessing the death of her father and her little brother in the fire. She was running towards the sea in order to save herself from the flames and lost her life by falling from a cliff. Did the smoke blinded her and thought she would fall in the water? Did she jump to her death in order to end the pain? Uguess we will never know. One thing is for sure, I won't forget you Evita. My deepest respect to anyone who lost a loved one in this horrible disaster. This wasn't fair. We can't forget this.
We all cried for your friend and all the victims. So sad and painful. The song still gives me the chills and brings tears to my eyes thinking of all those angels. Be strong.
Best thing in this song is that you can explain the lyrics and the video in so many different ways.... it combines every kind of pain... i mean...if you broke up its your song to listen...if you lost a father..a mother...a loving person... a dog...if there is any tragedy... !!! so many different kind of pain in one song!
I keep listening to this song since it was released. And every time I hear it, I wish every human being on this planet will keep in mind the fact that our lives are extremely fragile and priceless. We need to love ourselves and everyone around. This is the best thing we can do to each other. So please do it. There is not a signle reason in this world for the hate.
this is probably one of the best electronic songs written in our generation showing the brilliance of Roykshopp. On top of that, the selection of this video really shows the loneliness and despair of life in Scandinavia when you don't have someone beside you.
I think they were just sharing their personal connection to the video. When someone is staring at the moon it doesn't mean they hate the sun.@@TheValueOfN
@@TheValueOfN...you miss the point. _Yes,_ this happens everywhere, *but.* It matters _especially much_ that the setting is Scandinavia here, and the statistics for "self-removal" are especially _telling_ for that... the _land itself_ is the another character here. Rugged. Stark. Cold. Bleak, but beautiful. ...it may be common to humanity, but nevertheless-- *Scandinavia* matters here.
It makes me desperately feel like I have only one possibility, the one to save my life running through every bad moment away to all my troubles. When I’ll be finally free and there will be flowers growing on my scars.
I can't listen to this and watch this footage with dry eyes. It's like flashbacks from my fallen loved ones (grandma and pop especially) start rolling in the back of my eyes...
The symbolism in this video is mind blowing. Three parts to pay attention to: The old man, the dog, the birds. The old man is a symbol of the god Odin, often depicted as an old man with a beard carrying a spear (or in this case, a gun). He presided over the land of Valhalla. Odin was often accompanied by a wolf. The birds symbolize Huginn and Muninn, which are a pair of ravens. Their names translate as "thought" (Huginn) and "memory" (Muninn). Every morning, the two ravens would set out and fly all over the world. Every night they would return to Odin and bring him knowledge and news from his kingdom. In the Poetic Edda, Odin expresses concern that the birds will not come back from their daily flight. I believe this video is about that. The old man's daughter has died. The song is from the voice of the daughter/bird, trying to tell him what she remembers from her flight. She remembers the flash of white, turning to black, and being pulled out to sea. She remembers her death. But the old man doesn't want to accept that, and every day he sets out to look for her. You'll notice that the first bird in the video immediately catches his attention, only to be followed by a look of disappointment. Just like Odin in Edda, every parent fears for the safety of their children. The old man doesn't want to accept that the worst has happened, so every night, he returns to his throne, watching and hoping for her return. His faithful wolf remains at his side, but he his lost without his birds who brought him knowledge and memories. The bird is herself now just a memory, and the great Odin is now a broken man.
Always thought that her voice has something of a natural/universal force. It just seems so powerful and effortless to me. Maybe it's also the (interesting, to say the least) kind of songs and lyrics she sings that make me feel like that, but yeah. Actually, I'd say it's one of those voices that can truly make me hate my own voice... good thing I always try to avoid singing anyway, lol -..-"
Personally, I didn't use 'interesting' to refer to her voice in this case, but I'm not so sure why you'd underestimate it like that :p I feel what you said is more true about some of the mainstream pop artists, and not even always ...since what they tend to sing is also to blame, usually. On second thought, I know it's your opinion (based on this song alone, more likely) but if you had listened to more of her stuff and were objective, I think you wouldn't imply her voice is kind of boring. Sure, I can see why you don't find it truly rich but saying it's not interesting is similar to me saying another artist's voice is bad just because I don't like it (btw, it's just an example, don't take every word literally). To me it might be less engaging or even annoying but that doesn't mean it's not interesting in general. Well, I guess. Can't really think of an example right now. But there has to be :p And it always depends on the music/lyrics and personal taste, obviously. Try to recall a time when an artist you didn't like at all sung something different and you ended up liking their voice, for once. Guess I tried too hard to describe my point of view again, but hey... hopefully this comment fulfilled its purpose at least, dunno.
If you've listened to many of her songs and you feel like that, fine by me :) It's not even that important. What matters is whether you can enjoy the music or not, right? You know what? Could it be that you don't appreciate simplicity as much as you should...? Because, personally, I prefer listening to artists who aren't ostentatious or something (with their singing but not only), and I can't stand singers who sound like they're trying too hard, like they're shouting, etc. Or is it just her voice? If so, yes, it has to be a matter of taste. Well, whatever xD Again, just enjoy (what you can)!
Both music videos are excellent in their own right. This one shows how much you can depict with little, the other one shows how an artist can stay true to one's talent while going big.
This song is written in honour to the Utoya victims in Norway 22.7.2011 - and the video is bringing tears to my eyes... It is so emotional. I will never forget that day, and I will never forget how we met this with love and thousands of roses standing hand in hand regardless of religion, political view, living in a Villa or on the streets.. Love this song - simply love it
Apart from the song which is phenomenal, I’m totally in love with the music video. Watched it countless times already. Just found out by coincidence that actor and actress are actual father and daughter. Very nice! ❤
The song is so beautiful...this video made me tear up. My interpretation isn't much different than others. I think the man lost his daughter in some tragic way. He remembers her as a young child. Perhaps the older version of her represents the age she died, or the age she might be if she hadn't died as a child. How sad it must be to live alone, with only memories of a lost loved one to hold onto. I can't imagine that...The world is so beautiful, but also filled with pain and death.
I have a 6 yr old daughter..I cannot listen and watch this without crying...life is short and all we have on our death beds is our memories of loved ones and moments created....cherish them as much as you can
My father killed himself nearly 12 years ago. Each year for me now represents a countdown to when I reach the age he was. It's surreal, both in comparing how much I've already accomplished, and thinking of the "well, what now?" moment in 10 years. Some similar instances of a memory triggering in a location, imagining the person there and flashing back to the present.
My "daddy" died when I was 19 years old.. now I am a mother and my oldest son is 18 years old.. And this musicvideo is always breaking my heart, because the girl died (I think) in this video.. and now I am afraid to lose my children.. 😪

this video made me stop and appreciate my own parent's love for me. I've always been amazed and honestly confused by their unconditional love. You can hear the whisp of her Scandnavian accent in her singing- twinged with pure melancholy like the best of old ABBA and Bjork (yes she is Icelandic!). Just brilliant.
My husband is from Norway... as in he speaks the language itself. He, himself, says that no... no they don't match up. Yeah, they both came from Old Norse, but the closest language that would match would be Russian. Also, Icelandic isn't "more or less" Old Norse. It is, in fact, a branch of the German languages- although they all did originate from Old Norse. :)
This song and video are so sad. If I'm not in an emotionally strong mood, it makes me cry every time. My God, to spend the rest of your life thinking about your child who died in an accident you were part of -- fault or not, it doesn't help -- it's all the same. I can't imagine living with that constant pain. Video tears me up inside.

Lost my son almost 2 years now. If didn't have my daughter I would have gone chasing him. I know I will find him. Funny how all those things I was worried about happening to me before don't scare me now.
this song makes me cry almost every time i listen...powerful. My interpretation of the song is that the sea is the unknown future, the potential for possibility, and the abyss. All of us get sucked up by time and we must persevere thru hardship and pain.... "Darkness killed the light". "River flows inside of me" is the inevitability of time moving forward and change. I interperate the video to be a father who misses his daughter. Maybe she is gone from his life, as all children must leave home eventually. Maybe she is dead or in distress, but the emotion is clear...time will continue forward and there is nothing you can do and you will be hurt by the world, and those you love will be hurt, but life is beautiful...i remember running to the sea. perfectly sublime.
It doesn't matter whether I try to extrapolate meaning from the instrumental, from the lyrics or the video....they ALL kick me right in the feels making me realize that the meaning isn't necessarily important but more the moment and emotions in time
To me, this song is about being one with nature to the point that nature nurtures you and saves you from trauma. I feel this meaning so deeply when I hear the song that I overflow with feelings of gratitude. I grew up across the street from a state park and I frequented the woods there and the shorelines when I felt unsafe or lonely. Susanne and Royksopp really captured an emotional connection to the elements that is otherwise indescribable.

That's going a bit far. I can think of 3 or 4 song way more beautiful than this.

I still watch it and love it of course, its beautiful
I just do it alone
When you think about it, something must be really f*cked up if you can't normally shed tears nearby someone when you're a man.
And they say patriarchy, lol...
I love this song so much but it’s really difficult for me to hear without getting teary eyed because it feels very personal like it speaks directly to my heart and my experiences. This song to me is about a father-daughter relationship. A father who lost his daughter and is trying to cope. I’m fighting with my own demons everyday and this song reminds me of my father who I don’t see anymore. He’s far away all alone, hunting, trying to deal with his demons.
i can understand you.
exactly why i love it yes.
We are all fighting issues inside, mental health is a serious issue, I’m damn sure I’m going to let my parents know my problems, my dad is 80 and my mum is 77, they have their own problems. I’ve only told one person about my problems but she sadly passed away several years ago, so nobody knows now....

That is very cool! Thank you :)
This is the reason why I love songs like this. It actually inspires people to be an inspiration to other people.

_Yes,_ this happens everywhere, *but.*
It matters _especially much_ that the setting is Scandinavia here, and the statistics for "self-removal" are especially _telling_ for that... the _land itself_ is the another character here.
Rugged. Stark. Cold. Bleak, but beautiful.
...it may be common to humanity, but nevertheless-- *Scandinavia* matters here.
It makes me desperately feel like I have only one possibility, the one to save my life running through every bad moment away to all my troubles. When I’ll be finally free and there will be flowers growing on my scars.
some losses cannot be undone. this is a very beautiful song about our losses, which can be hard to accept
I can't listen to this and watch this footage with dry eyes. It's like flashbacks from my fallen loved ones (grandma and pop especially) start rolling in the back of my eyes...
When she says 'daddy'... It brings a lump to my throat. Every. Time. I. Hear. It.
Me too.
So beautiful. The look on his face in the final scene... I love this song so very much.
There are no words to do justice to this track. It makes my very soul ache!
The bird is herself now just a memory, and the great Odin is now a broken man.
this should be top comment....
Agreed
😭😭😭😭💔
These old stories are so important. We should be thankful to todays story tellers keeping the old stories alive.
Wow. That was awesome! Thanks for share.
Her voice is incredible
Agree
Always thought that her voice has something of a natural/universal force. It just seems so powerful and effortless to me. Maybe it's also the (interesting, to say the least) kind of songs and lyrics she sings that make me feel like that, but yeah.
Actually, I'd say it's one of those voices that can truly make me hate my own voice... good thing I always try to avoid singing anyway, lol -..-"
Personally, I didn't use 'interesting' to refer to her voice in this case, but I'm not so sure why you'd underestimate it like that :p
I feel what you said is more true about some of the mainstream pop artists, and not even always ...since what they tend to sing is also to blame, usually.
But there has to be :p
And it always depends on the music/lyrics and personal taste, obviously. Try to recall a time when an artist you didn't like at all sung something different and you ended up liking their voice, for once.
Guess I tried too hard to describe my point of view again, but hey... hopefully this comment fulfilled its purpose at least, dunno.
If you've listened to many of her songs and you feel like that, fine by me :)
It's not even that important.
88feji go and see her live. Then come back and tell us about her voice and pitch. She is amazing live. Sometimes her live is better.
Yes, Lauren ROTHERY is the autjor of the video film. Her father and her daughter played in the video
Ofcourse it is. We should get used to it.
I have a 6 yr old daughter..I cannot listen and watch this without crying...life is short and all we have on our death beds is our memories of loved ones and moments created....cherish them as much as you can
It's about the Utøya terror attack. Look up the lyrics.
Sad truth ...
The part where she says “daddy” at the beginning always breaks my heart to sand. I know I’ll feel that one day when my dad won’t be here anymore 😓

You can hear the whisp of her Scandnavian accent in her singing- twinged with pure melancholy like the best of old ABBA and Bjork (yes she is Icelandic!). Just brilliant.
true. you can tell her accent. Still beautiful ! 😍😍
Susanne is Norwegian, how does Björk (who yes, is Icelandic), have anything to do with her? Those are completely different languages and tones... :I
My husband is from Norway... as in he speaks the language itself. He, himself, says that no... no they don't match up. Yeah, they both came from Old Norse, but the closest language that would match would be Russian. Also, Icelandic isn't "more or less" Old Norse. It is, in fact, a branch of the German languages- although they all did originate from Old Norse. :)
Vox Icelandic and Norwegian are both Nordic languages.
Vox Icelandic and Norvegian has nothing in common with Russian. I'm Danish, btw.
I'm not entirely sure what I just watched, but it broke my heart.

It doesn't matter whether I try to extrapolate meaning from the instrumental, from the lyrics or the video....they ALL kick me right in the feels making me realize that the meaning isn't necessarily important but more the moment and emotions in time
This beautiful song is set as a ringtone on my phone and has been playing every day for about 5 years. I do not lie....
Magnificent voice, music…. Dreaming and running to the sea, trying to catch your own life…
You can taste the grief in this video.

This Song has always been in my Mind and Remained a Mysterious and Sad Memory to me.. It Always has held some Meaning to me, but most of all this Year. The Change in my Life within this last Decade, the Loss.. Seeing my Big Sister Leave this World so Soon in July
I know someday I'll run to the sea and Look for Her and those I've Lost along the Way and I will See You Again...
I Love You Royksopp & Susanne
Please don't stop what you do for your fans, Your work Is a big piece of my Life now and many of your Fans..
Thank You..
The perfect and magnificent voice of Susanne, I adore !
This makes me cry every time I listen to it.
Royksopp's work always tells true stories (mostly), each of us has our own story and each of us absorbs it in our own way, thank you for your creativity!
I'm so glad I found this in my late 20's, it relates to my life on multiple layers and I will never forget this song.
It is about Utoya. thank you for remembering Royksopp
After all these years, i still haven't heard a more beautiful song in my life.
When music becomes more that music. When music becomes a channel for, and an expression of the soul
Sole is a part of a foot.
@@jansither not anymore ;)

There is nothing more precious than a daughter is to her father. I hope you reunite.
It’s so much harder finding any songs/music like this that really grab your soul and rip your breath away.
Have you heard Animadrop? This song led me to finding him. He practiced orchestral composition and song writing in Europe then decided to become a DJ. Every one of his songs is great.
Greetings from Germany. NICE SONG!
Katherina Reizend
Katherina be quiet! lol.
I recently discovered Royskopp ...its crazy good . I have no words ...
I recommand only this moment .its heavenily good
One of the most Profound sounds from across the pond. The mood you find yourself in is very centering
I know music can inspire a wide pallet of feelings, but man, this song is something else! Beautiful!
Man was born to love
Though often he has sought
Like Icarus, to fly too high.
And far too lonely than he ought
To kiss the sum of east and west
And hold the world at his behest
To hold the terrible power
To whom only gods are blessed
But me, I am just a man. ""
"Spin me round again and rub my eyes this cant be happening "
Only 5,813,692 views ? Are u serious? Meh, this masterpiece deserves more than these views. Anyway, i'm glad that the true art lover people are here and supporting Röyksopp. Thanks for this amazing song!
This is how the voice of an angel sounds like.

Röyksopp and Aurora could move mountains togheter for sure😍😍😍😍
Hear this song it was on friends Instagram story. Completely forgot myself . It just feel like it's me there searching for my father (He is no more). I cannot forget him , the more I listen t9 this song music , the more emotions comes out from my heart and eyes.

This is not music.
This is art.
+giovanni acuto it is not saying that mcdonalds and a michelin starred meal is the same. not every artwork is a mona lisa.

music is a form of art but not every music is a masterpiece (like this one)

MCDONALDS IS ART
I waited years for a music video to come out and when it finally did it did not fail my expectations. I am in love all over again.
Video and music is immaculate and emotion stirring... i too run to the sea away to grow up from a father who made too many mistakes needing left behind....ce la vie 😊😢🎉❤
If you want to feel melancholy, this is the song to listen. Amazing what a song can make you feel.
It's useful to have a playlist that's intentionally melancholy because sometimes we all need the catharsis that it provides.
This song helped me get through my depression and self harm ways now I go to college made friends and smoke a lot of weed to become a cool kid haha love you rokysopp for being there in my drug fueled past
That's the number one of my playlist! For over two years...
One of the best songs ever recorded!!!
I don’t know what I’d do without your music. It’s been a lifesaver in these hard times. It replenishes my soul, helps me to keep me going .
Love ,light and blessings from the universe to you.
There is something mysterius in this song, there also some kinde of hope and great voice. Greatings from Poland.

Catharsis...
I like lots of songs, but this has been on high rotation for me ever since it was released, and it still sounds so fresh; melancholic beauty in a dark place. Just brings out so many emotions for me. Royksopp totally rock...this may be my fave ever but they have so many other amazing songs. I miss them
I agree. I have not seen my baby from her 1st birthday.
She is now 11.
