This album and especially this song got me through my absolute worst time. I still remember, like it all happened yesterday. Even if it's a little difficult to listen to that song now, it still stays deep in my heart.
That song allonge with 3 others in the pornography album had a huge influence on me when i was young. This was the ultimate expression of what is called "goth" today but in those days, it had no Label. It was just super intense. And i loved it. Maybe too much.

I know these lyrics by heart, always sing it when I take a shower, it will always be one of my favourite songs I ever heard, such a beautiful song-creation
Наверное любимая песня Cure! Здесь глубина и меланхоличность группы достигает своего пика. Особенно когда начинается незатейливый, но мелодичный проигрыш. Вообще альбом "Порнография", самое любимое из того что делали в 80-ые в целом!!!
Very deep this song, the power of the drums, the bass making the difference, the letter and the dark environment make special this theme. Very sad but I like it too much.
I love this version. No flash-bombs, no fireworks. It's pared down to the nub. It was a difficult album by all accounts but I love how they have kept the mood. Recording Pornography was allegedly full of tension and darkness and it comes out perfectly in this. My Cure.
Breathingspace I live on a business compound that has a detached structure with a studio with artists signed to Atlantic records. Do you have any idea how much mixing, mastering and engineering goes into a recording? This is live, real and emotional. I don’t judge an artist based on his studio version as much as their live performance
@@zanekrienitz3263 Sure, you can appreciate the technical effort. But the recorded version of this song, to my ears, showed that they were in deep. They really captured the sound of suicide. I can tell, because I'm close to it. The live version here was also beautiful to me, but more in a romantic way, not in the bleak way of the album.
Believe it or not my first time hearing this, and I totally love it - must get this album, i am slowly building up my Cure collection, it is a masterpiece, and very poignant like so many of their songs, I LOVE it!
Very good live version of one of my fave songs from The Cure. THANKS for posting it. I listen to the cure since I was 11 or 12 years old and ther studio album "Wish" was one of my first CDs!! And I`m proud to say I saw the live 2 or 3 times.... For me they are one of the best goth bands and even one of the best rock bands ever......
Have a love - hate relationship with this song....love the brilliance of it but hate the dark place of my life that it brings me right back to all these decades later
Intense, suspenseful, cathartic. Depressing? No. The album is not depressing. If I could sum up the feel of the album, it is righteous indignation. Unlike the depressing dirges which Nirvana produced (in some ways similar to early Cure) this album leaves me feeling good about myself in a strange way. It's healing, like it channels the angst out of you. There's this sense of rising above the negativity to conquest, fighting the sickness, finding the cure.
This is so well put! I had no words to describe how I felt. I feel that way with every song by The Cure anyway.... "leaves me feeling good about myself in a strange way..."
Largactyl Kid Can you be a little elastic and ironic? It was just a figure of speech, a joke.....you're heavy as a lead ball...... and still the bass sound of Mr. Gallup is very similar to a model FIAT Doblò but only when the engine is started, not when the car walks.
Actually, it's quite a clean-ish & "civilised" sound and probably a case of having new strings. Listen to the original Pornography if you want to hear the sound you're describing... Its a really beautiful version, very sympathetic to the original album version. If you only heard this, you'd think it was a live recording from the 80s on a B-side.......
I am forever in love with this particular version. Although, I do believe that nothing can compare to Lol Tolhurst's raw drumming on the Pornography album.
Thank you for sharing. I have this on DVD but now I can listen to it in the car . I think this Berlin performance was incredible. I just saw The Cure in Vancouver in June and they played 3 hours and it was a great show. I think they are one of the best bands and I'm greatful I've seem them live.

Sharp and open, Leave
me alone
And sleeping less every night....
As the days become
heavier and weighted, waiting, In the cold light.
A noise, A
scream, tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
With spiders
inside them And dust on the lips of a vision of hell
I laughed in
the mirror for the first time in a year
A hundred other words
blind me with your purity
Like an old painted doll in the throes
of dance
I think about tomorrow
Please let me sleep
As I
slip down the window
Freshly squashed fly
You mean nothing
You
mean nothing
I can lose myself in Chinese art and American
girls
All the time
Lose me in the dark
Please do it
right
Run into the night
I will lose myself tomorrow
Crimson
pain
My heart explodes
My memory in a fire
And someone will
listen
At least for a short while
I can never say no to
anyone but you
Too many secrets
Too many lies
Writhing
with hatred
Too many secrets
Please make it good tonight
But
the same image haunts me
In sequence
In despair of time
I
will never be clean again
I touched her eyes
Pressed my stained
face
I will never be clean again
Touch her eyes
Press my
stained face
I will never be clean again
I will never be clean
again
I will never be clean again
I will never be clean again
