      Happy to hear you are enjoying the videos. The TT’s are the hardest to get the stories all paired up together to make a good video because there are so many riders going at the same time on the course and I really enjoy making the video line up as closely to how you would have saw it live. But it always seems to come together nicely. 👊🦋👍

    Primoz is a several-time all-time defending champion, but the aging process is for everyone and last year's Vuelta was the official start of his, no? Not that he was in any mood to surrender his crown but it happens. And cheers to him and his exotic beverage company on this year's big Vuelta win, great to see as Sepp didn't have anything to offer this year and O well. And I'm still a little steamed that the pros find it special to do two races in Canada without even a meet-and-greet for Stateside fans in an airport lounge. It would have been beautiful, posing for photos and drinking Shirley Temples. 😀

  • @cuebj
    @cuebj 3 місяці тому +2

    Fascinating to see that Evenepoel had gained 5.5 seconds on Ganna long before the first timecheck. You show how Ganna had a clumsy first few corners. Congrats to Evenepoel for holding himself calm in the face of the chain coming off (though you'd expect they'd have rehearsed getting on the bike and making sure he didn't pedal backwards). That 5.5 sec is pretty much the time difference at the end. Wow! no room for any vagueness even at the start and round first bends. I wonder if it helps that Evenepoel is so low and long for his height: it's great for aerodynamics but maybe also good for taking corners - contrast someone tall with long legs so their centre of gravity is higher, making corners more clumsy. Evenepoel having been an academy football (soccer) player till mid teens, he'd have only got that far with short legs to long torso ratio for low centre of gravity and strength on the ball

    So Remco not only had to get a last-second chain fix but also lost his power meter in the process. Yet, he still managed to pace himself to have enough time to celebrate before the finish. Amazing!
    So Chris, when you prepared the commentary, did you know about Remco's chain issue before commenting on Ganna's technique? That is, were you lucky, or did you deliberately set things up?

    • @ChrisHornerCycling
      @ChrisHornerCycling  3 місяці тому +16

      I saw Ganna pedal backwards and remembered it the minute I saw the chain drop on Remco. I knew at that moment that the two stories together were going into the video. One of my favorite pieces that I put together was the Belgium Worlds in Leven 2021. There it was French rider Christophe LaPorte that flatted with about 180k to go. He was running full gas to get to the team car for his spare bike. I thought, Wow, he is really in a hurry to get to his spare bike and the racing hasn’t even started yet. Then Bam, the French started attacking before the next climb started at 178k. It’s all about the details in T🦋E. 🤪😀🦋👊👊👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

    Peddling backwards introduces more slack due to less tension in the chain, the derailleur is working the wrong way. So slight misalignment as nothing is bang on between one big ring and cassette, or stiff link etc could cause an issue. It happens before the chain catcher can do anything.

      @ChrisHornerCycling On a basically flat ITT, it's about power per kg and don't forget about the aero. They are riding well above 50km/pro hour, so your aero needs to be excellent. So even if Ganna is producing more watts per kg as Remco, he loses this benefit by not being as aero. Just scientific fact. I love riding as well. I can not count the times when the wind turned into headwind and after 140 km, me damn, I need to change gears, my speed dropping and those last 40 kilometers are horrible, like never ending. Then I am glad I am finally home.😂

    I believe that Remco's real source of the problem was a *Stiff Link.*
    You can see it start the problem almost immediately at the base of the chainring. It looks as an arrow pointing at 5 o'clock approximately. I can't see if it was at the quicklink.
    If I'm right, how can something so easy to prevent can happen in a pro sport especially to the number one contender in the world championship. I can't believe the level of amateurish incompetency of pro cycling. Here, I'm not talking about the mechanics themselves but rather about the management who doesn't have the clairvoyance to put enough ressources so that the mechanics can do their job with the proper attention to details. If they are always on the run, these things are going to keep happening.

    Remco pedalling back was pretty stupid, since it happened earlier this season already at the Basque Country ITT. It was his own mistake, as he stated very honest after the finish. But men what a time trial again ?!

      Only Pogi can beat Remco in a TT and also there must be a climb or a big descent otherwise this guy is killing everyone

    Chris, are you going to cover M. Van Der Poel's incredibly stupid (knucklehead) loss at the Tour of Luxembourg

    I just think it's pathetic when he stares as mechanic doing this and it's obvious he has no clue of what's going on! I never saw Lance Armstrong for Fabian cancellara or Chris horner drop a chain at the start because they know not to do that because they're professionals oh I'm sorry they're not around anymore now we deal with a bunch of kids who can't change a tire on their bike let alone put a chain on a chain ring!!!!
