- Tommy Edison, who has been blind since birth, teams up with Fireball Tim Lawrence, a Hollywood car designer, to experience various types cars for the first time. First, Fireball Tim demonstrates the power of a muscle car by driving Tommy around in Dodge Challenger Hellcat with a supercharged V8 hem. Then they visit the Picture Car Warehouse of Northridge, CA, a company that customizes vehicles for film, to experience movie cars first-hand by touching the motorcycle from "The Priest," the Volkswagen Transporter from "Little Miss Sunshine," and the exterior and interior of an ambulance.

the joy he gets from just everyday things really puts things into a new perspective. I wish I enjoyed everything the way he does
If there was one thing the human mind could lose is taking stuff for granted
@@rikupv imagine how much happier we will be if we just stopped taking these things for granted.
I love how nice and helping tim was towards tommy!!
Take that Hellcat out to the salt flats and let Tommy drive it!
Tommy I'm so happy that I found your channel. Your videos are just so interesting to watch. Your full of life and it's amazing. I suffered an accident that left me with only having sight in one eye I was so depressed about it. I wouldn't leave the house, I wouldn't watch tv, I wouldn't do anything. I eventually got over it but I still suffer some depression from time to time but your videos have reminded me that no matter the situation it's never as bad as it seems. Thank you tommy.
I never realized that for a blind person the world exists out of concepts a lot more than for me. I think it would be great fun to help a blind person experience the world like this. Fun for them because they get to make the abstract concepts more real, fun for me because it brings back some of the magic of the world. Ambulances? meh i've seen 100's, but with somebody like Tommy its like yeah! They are pretty awesome, totally forgot that!
man i hard a gigantic smile up to my ears all throughout this video
Why? Is it because Tommy isn’t actually interested in feeling a car 😂😂😂
you had a hard smile at Tommy?
I'd LOVE to see more of Tommy "seeing" things. I'm fascinated by how he learns and his tactile response!
I think the most interesting part of this was listening to the guys describe the vehicles to him, and how many terms or references they made that require sight to really be impactful. Still, this is a really nice / cool thing to do, and I love them for it.
you really want to not treat people differently they respect you more when they know your purposely not belittling they wanna feel normal half time
Hey tommy, I just.. This stuff makes me sooo happy just seeing. I'm super glad to see all this. I've been watching your videos for a couple days and I never cease to be amazed and entertained and kept happy. Thanks for doing this!
I wanna hang out with Tommy so bad hahaha
Tommy goes drifting next!
I just want to hug Tommy :D
kudos
Damn that’s what I’m thinking about since I started watching his vids. Love his innocent pure character
I just though of somthing that would be really interesting to see, As we've seen your not a great drawer, but what if you were to work with a graphics artiste to drawn exactly what you say so that we have an understanding of how you picture objects to be base only on touching. It would probably be very difficult to find an artist with the ability to draw what you say and not as they would see it but would still be very cool thing to see if it possible. :D
+Metech yeah, like have his describe an object or wahtever without revealing its identity if possible to get an unbiased result. i like this idea
Like describing someone to a police sketch artist
Yes
This would be awesome
The problem is that he doesn't "picture" objects. I don't think there's any way to 'see' the world the way Tommy does. Unless you've been blind all of your life I don't think there's anyway for him to describe the way the world looks in this head. It's such a difficult concept.
When I see him smile and laugh it makes me so happy
well, shit
That was sick, dude!
I just found your channel, by chance, and I love your sense of humor.
9:04 "see if there is something in there"
i died
Tommy literally said "let me see" right before that line and constantly uses the word see to mean experience much in the same way sighted people often use it.
I love watching you Tommy. In a cool way you bring me back to my childhood watching California's Gold
"This is the uh.. Bit of oxygen."
Lol no but okay
ever notice says look at that as an expression?
+Top Gallant He is looking and seeing... Its just his version is a mostly foreign concept to us, just as how we look and see is to him.
MrOuchiez I like your deep thought on it, but I'm guessing he just says it because its an extremely common phrase everyone in the states uses to draw attention to an object.
Top Gallant
I agree, and I think were both correct :-) The expression means the same thing to us all, but the mode of getting there differs. Thats all I meant. Have a good weekend!
OHHHHH man that dodge challenger hellcat is a sexy beast! i want one
I thought he is actually letting Tommy drive when he slipped Tommy on to the right side of the car.
Then i realised it's America not India.
Sumit Das fuck india
@@isaaccastro5866 Good luck with that
it would have been really awkward if Tommy didn't shake Doug's hand Lmao
I love the way Tim shows Tommy around. He's so understanding of Tommy's blindness and does an amazing job at explaining concepts, guiding him to all the visuals, and small details that normally Tommy would miss. Bless Tim for this.
The one dude was like "There's latches here and here." While his partner was like "Bro, he's blind you gotta show him where to touch"
finalcountdown3210 I know right?
LET HIM DRIVE IT! SERIOUSLY ... "BLIND MAN DRIVES DODGE HELLCAT" Take him to the salt flats. 3 million views. I GUARANTEE IT!
I love cars they are my life, being able to see someone with a handicap be able to enjoy them in the way I do is a very beautiful thing to me.
Take that hellcat out to the salt flats where there is nothing in the way for miles. Then let Tommy drive it!
that would be freakin amazing!!
When I was in the army stationed at fort Rucker, I worked at a heliport with six 1500'x75' runways. We used to race cars during interflight periods or take junior soldiers out to do driver's training. One soldier was a guy from new York who'd never driven before and he was in his 30s. His first time ever driving a car was in my manual jeep Cherokee. Watching these videos with Tommy, I've often thought you could just bring him out to an airport and let him drive around.
I thought the same thing while watching this video! Like, give him basic instructions on how to operate a car and watch him from a distance, or be a passenger lol and when he gets to a point that he either may lose control or hit an obstacle, tell him to brake.
I've seen videos where they put a blind driver in with a sighted co-driver giving them instructions trying to get around test tracks and it's pretty interesting stuff. I'd love for Tommy to get a chance to experience that in his life at some point ;)
He has all 5 senses... Smell, Taste, Touch, Hearing, and Humor lmao
4:32 i LOVE how he says "LOOK at that" and other words like "ive never SEEN this before, this is so cool to see"
Just beautiful how even blind people have a concept of "seeing", not in the visual sense, but in the sense of knowledge.
Just beautiful.. Almost a bit philosophical, how vision is also the acquisition of knowledge, not merely optical vision.
Did the guy in blue know Tommy is blind? He was pointing at cars, and talking about the cars.
Samantha Peters Yeah it was really annoying.
Some folks are better at immediately visualizing things as if they were blind and thus better at helping blind folks than others. What’s annoying you is the fact that too many of us have never even considered how to verbalize and intentionally hand-guide people along with our words without using eyes at all.
Why not let him drive on a track with an instructor or at least rev it a bit
Tommy would watch the road more than most phone-addicted drivers.
You should take tommy to a huge open race track like the salt flats and let him race round on it (with a guide and all that)
Every time I see tommy doing something he's always have a big ass smile on his face
"I've never really got to know anybody who was sight impaired" *wears glasses* xD
I know what he actually means, but it's still funny lol.
The guy who is guiding him around does a great job explaining and showing Tommy the things.
Hello Tommy, I'm kind of curious, has anyone ever 3D printed a large object to scale for you? Something like the Sydney Opera house or even just a landscape. Have you ever held and felt a scale model of something and been surprised by its shape?
Great questions!
+dashing fellow Omg, this is not just an a good question, but if he hasn't - it's an amazing suggestion!
Ryan Deschamps He made a video about that.
I love how Tommy is surprised by little details of things...
"Yeah I've seen that before" the conspiracy unfolds
I find it amusing how Tim has to resist the urge to point at everything
Insane how quick he finds that man's hand at 3:30. He knows exactly when people throw out there hand, if he didn't that guy would have failed handshaked so hard!
Love the video's so far Tommy.
Props to Tim for seeming to be very conscious and accommodating of your sight impairment! I was impressed watching how he worked with you. Very neat video; another reminder of all the little things we sighted people take for granted every moment of our lives.
Tommy is funny as fuck. I am so glad I ran into your channel. Amazing personality!
Tommy's reactions are so heart warming.
"It's bright yellow"
He doesn't know what that is
"I've seen this before"
Me:Wait that's illegal.
I just absolutely love that Tommy says "Look at that!" and also "I've seen this before"!
The guy was so sweet to tommy its awsome
6:42 "You woln't see this on film"
I doubt he will
I love it when Tommy says, "Oh wow! Look at that!"
yeah
I hate seeing these videos sometimes, but I love Tommy's personality and amazement with everything. If he is this excited to see things using his hands and having all these new experiences, it makes me wish he could visually appreciate them as well. It makes me really hurt that he probably won't get to see anything in his lifetime.
I know what you feel bro. But lets just be happy he still having fun evem with experience. I believe he does.
As much as like as you do to have some kind of godly power to give him sight, its probably for the best he dont see. He is contended and happy what he got.
He is a inspiration to many people.
But yeah. In the future like him i hope technology advances enough to give them sight regardless if it looks like impossible for now.
"But today I'm gonna be on your show"
"Noiice"
Gotta love him :'D
06:42 *You won't see this on film*
Welp, yes, he can't.
This video was a lot of fun. You were like a kid in a candy store!
*You wont see this in film* Tommy: Yeah no shit
I love how being blind doesn't effect your mood at all. I get that you have never experienced sight so you don't know what you are missing, but, I'm sure if I couldn't see I would probably get frustrated needing help all the time.
Take tommy to the salt flats with some fun cars and let him drive!
Austin A Haha he's mentioned that his buddies would let him drive around his hometown late at night.
ok and now here. oh woooowwww! wow!! ok onw put your hand here. ok ok, WOWOOWWWWW oh ohh woww. ok and now touch here. wowwww!
Fireball Tim was really good with Tommy.
As someone who adores Tommy, I appreciated Tim's manner with him. Thank you Tim!
Who doesn’t like Tommy? :)
Guy: And its bright yellow. In Tommys Head: Soooooo what.
I love how Tommy always says "WOW look at that", he is such a handsome man.
Someone needs to take this man to the salt flats where he can drive
Tommy's raw enthusiasm is so fun. I wonder what he'd think of airplanes.
especially a sport plane
"yeah! I've seen that before!"
The more of Tommy's videos I watch the more I like him!!
He's such a cool guy and so excited about life!
Watching his videos just make me so happy :D
I bet Tommy is a really, really fun guy to be around.
It's amazing to understand how exciting things can be for the first time for a blind person..especially things us with sight take for granted. wow I just cant imagine what that must be like.
I've been binging blind youtubers every day for the past week. Especially Tommy and Christine Ha, but some James Rath and Molly Burke too. I really, really wonder what the experience of the world is like for someone born completely blind like Tommy.
I can close my eyes for a day and try it out, but I will always have a lot of visual references, I cannot shut that part of my brain off. Tommy seems to have a more developed sensitivity for a lot of things. The sensitivity he has in his fingers to read braille(I've tried reading it, so hard to differentiate the dots), the sensitivity he seems to have for nuances in situations, but mostly the sensitivity he has for other people; you can really tell he listens to, respect and cares about others.
Maybe if Tommy would wake up tomorrow and see and experience the world like I do, it would blow his mind. But I am certain that if I woke up tomorrow with all of the parts of the brain that Tommy uses on a daily basis as developed as his brain is, and feel, touch, smell, hear the world like he does(some of it are parts of the brain that I use for vision) - it would blow my mind too. I cannot shut off the part of my brain that deals with sight, but if that were to happen it would be a simply mind-blowing experience. Sight is not like sound, even when you shut your eyes you still see stuff, there is no real "silence" in sight as there is with sound, the part of the brain involved with sight is constantly buzzing in the background. I really wonder what it would be like to not see anything, not even see darkness. Simply mind-blowing.
I just wanna hug tommy! Makes me smile to see how happy he is, would love to meet him and become friends, seems like a very nice person
Tommy you're happiness is very contagious, Watching you is like watching children Christmases how excited and happy they are. I'm not trying to say you are like a child, you just have a wonderful reaction to things that most of us take for granted.
3:30 that handshake was strangely normal considering you're blind.
Hah, well when someone says "hey, this is doug", a handshake would be appropriate. Either that or he can really see and he's been faking since he was a child haha
i love Tommy's attitude.
His enthusiasm for new experiences is beautiful. And his laugh is contagious. I'd love to be friends with him.
Lol.
Tommy you are so warm and kind-hearted, your videos always make me smile.
It's cool how Tim is learning how to interact with Tommy as the day goes on and really started to get Tommy to touch the things instead of just saying "here" or pointing at stuff. The other guy hasn't figured that out yet, apparently.
That's what The Other Guy admits at the end of the video. If anything, he's had a bigger new-er experience than Tommy.
Tommy, your joy for life is contagious, instantly makes me feel better. Wish you the best!
This was really neat. Thank you for sharing, Tommy.
when that guy said tommy was like a child experiencing things for the first time I got chills. I agree tommy's excitement was so innocent and pure and wonderful to see! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
It is strange what I have the patience for. I can't make it through an entire episode of Jay Leno's Garage before losing interest, but a 13 minute video of a guy touching cars keeps me glued. It's like the time I saw Lawrence of Arabia on Netflix and thought 4 hours seemed really daunting, so I watched 6 episodes of Breaking Bad instead.
You've got a point, same for me.
I've got a question for Tommy; if someone were to give you a model of something--a car, a horse, a plane, etc--would that give you a better idea of what the object feels like (because you can feel the entire thing at once) or would it just not really make much sense to you?
+fiercebaldguy I have to admit that is actually a very great idea and as well i wonder if it would make sense or not to him as we saw he usually has to feel it to get an idea of size ect.
Hi Tommy, i really like your videos and your sense of humor. You should try sitting next to someone who can drift.
Fireball Tim was so great at showing him around and ensuring Tommy got a complete experience. Tommy, I assure you the Hellcat you were riding in was GORGEOUS looking! Thanks as always for the great content, sir!
Now this makes me want to see him go drifting..
I love tommy's soul. It's so fucking beautiful. I love him
You should contact Google and ride around in one of their self driving cars on your own.
He did a video a couple of years ago where he drove a (normal, not self-driving) car around an empty parking lot, with another guy sitting beside him telling him when to turn left or right.
I’m glad Tommy was able to have this experience.
Man I love this guy's aura, such positive vibes.
the guy taking him on a tour is doing very great .. his assistant is a bit overchallenged :D :D but still so good taking him to the ambulance car.. and the vw bus was really the best idea.. a fast car and some very special cars :D while the oldtimers looked very nice too but theres less for a blind person to experience :D ty
Tommy is a genuinely fabulous guy! :) I had never considered how many things that I've visually seen in my life but never had the opportunity to actually touch in person and investigate. Having the opportunity to "see" each new thing you've never experienced before must be a constant series of discoveries for Mr. Edison. Thank you for opening our eyes, Tommy, and keep up the excellent work!
Am I the only one that adore Tommy? He seems so sweet and kind hearted!
if he thinks an ambulance is big, I don't think he could comprehend how huge a firetruck or garbage truck is in comparison
He's like:
"Wow it's bright yellow? Wow!"
"But wth is bright yellow?"
DUBSTEP BRWOOAAAH WOOOP WOOP WOOP BEEP BEEP BRWOOOAAAH BRWOBRWOBRWOAAAH BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BLEEP BLEEP sorry
He's blind not deaf!
The music is a bit unusual for this channel.
LIAR!!! He is not blind!! He is fooling us all! And finaly i can prove it!!! He said he has SEEN the VW logo befor... LIAR!
TheRomanbaer Haha funny how you can't comprehend humor.
Juliana Nino haha funny how you cant comprehend sarcasm
TheRomanbaer have you seen what his eyes look like? if you ever happen to do so.. you can take it back
You're such an inspiration, Tom. I love your unfiltered enthusiasm! Keep it up.
Take Tommy out to the salt flats and let him drive on a huge open area with no one around :D
I love Toms personality!
Tommy, you should do more videos like this! I've watched nearly all your videos, you're a cool guy
Get this man a lap dance
You should go drifitng. That would be a great experiance for you.
Tommy bringing joy to everyone!
