  • This was one of the craziest properties I've ever done. While mowing this empty corner lot, this very angry man approached me an things spiraled out of control. Once he called me a terrorist I knew things would not end well.

      I agree 100%! This was a good video for me to watch as I become so frustrated seeing areas in my neighborhood that aren't being maintained, and some are vacant lots. Now I can understand why some areas aren't cleaned up by helpful people. In the past I have cleaned up some little areas in my neighborhood (no equipment, just pulling weeds or cleaning up trash) and I have been so nervous doing it - afraid someone will do something.

    Bud, I was a police officer for 32 years. You experienced what I saw DAILY! Many times multiple times daily. You were simply touched by one of the many fruits that this country has in its basket! That man has a story. Be it demented, alcohol, drugs, or just general metal instability of so many kinds…my guess, being you did knock on his door, without an answer, worked for a very long time without him coming out, and then his demeanor…take into consideration the condition of his house, looks like one vehicle, thin and drawn out, the way he stood bent mid section…I say Alcohol…second could be dementia but I’m betting on hard core alcoholic. Dealt with thousands..just like this guy.
    You’re doing God’s work bud..don’t let this deter you! There are so many sad, sorry people out there. You just had to end up tangled up with one!

      When he told you to leave when you had everything packed up and were in the street he was wrong. You can go back and get pictures from the street or sidewalk. They are public. I understand the old man in that I don't like other people to try to help unless I ask for it. They often don't understand how I want things. I guess that I have been around so many disabled people that I know some are grateful for help and some are offended. You never know.

      Exactly.... There are 2 older neighbors in my neighborhood that have been there forever.. Well they are enemies that were once friends.... The one had a BAD lawn, the other had a nice lawn...and the one with the BAD lawn would always blow his clippings wherever INCLUDING into the good lawn guys yard... Well his GOOD lawn went full of weeds and spurs because of it... When he finally caught the old guy ..... Which was before my time, but they had it out and are enemies now... Retired Psychotherapist: Obviously that man has mental health problem. I wouldn't diagnose from afar but as another person commented it could be dementia or schizophrenia with paranoid thinking. His repeated references to you as a terrorist made me wonder if he had served in Armed Services in war zone. A veteran with PTSD can have concurrent illnesses like schizophrenia or dementia. Many years ago had inpatient training. Prime objective with agitated patient was to de-escalate as much as possible. Training for taking food, blankets & hot beverages to homeless in winter teaches volunteers to immediately back off if homeless person has angry,, agitated reaction to your presence. You did the right thing for that particular, disturbed man by leaving. We don't know what he was suffering in his mind. Think of your actions in leaving as a bit of soothing for that man. That man's behavior was a disgrace, and if he is actually sick, someone should notify the police and explain what happened. He certainly is a danger to himself and possibly to others. I can see and even understand how you're feeling and how badly this has affected you. You were doing a good, kind, and decent deed for someone who obviously needed a great deal of help maintaining the property, someone you didn't even know. Try to calm down. You're clearly a good man. Try to relax and settle down and know that there are a lot of admirers out here watching, in awe, at what you do. I hope you can relax and wake up tomorrow feeling much better than you do now. The gentleman from across the street was like you could be anyone you’re not supposed to be here doing this and called the police and then the police told the man he’s not doing anything illegal. He has permission to be here, go away. It was odd, but I think so many people are dealing with their own issues or bias, and that was the situation and this man that you dealt with is clearly an issue that has nothing to do with you!

      As I said in my other comment... It would be best if he talked to the city and learned who's property that was. The owner of that next house might also own the vacant lot. Notice that the guy only came out once our host started mowing the lawn, and not when he was just working on the concrete sidewalk and drainage curbs. That's when he crossed the line from working on city sidewalks, public access, to working on private property. I have to admit... in someways I like to see natural open spaces. When he started mowing down the "natural environment" from the private property, is when the guy got hostile. I'm not a "tree hugger", but I can see his viewpoint of it.

That man was upset simply because Sean was a white man, and he was black, kept accusing him of trying to blow the neighborhood up, and that he (the black man) wouldn't be allowed to mow a yard in a white neighborhood. It was racism, jealousy, and spite. A man who was told his whole life that white people were the source of his problem. It was clear as day.

    As an electric wheelchair user, I really appreciate someone cleaning up a sidewalk. I hate being attacked by weeds, trees, bushes and all kinds of creepy crawly things. Bypassing the sidewalk by using the street is very dangerous. I can’t count how many times I had to go into the street because of poor or blocking sidewalks. Thank you for cleaning this empty walk. P.S. my mom had dementia. The mean kind. She would bite, scratch, kick and hit just because. She even asked my husband to get her a gun so she could shoot me! He didn’t tell me until now. She passed almost 5 years now.

      @Tla81
      I so sorry you had to go through that.😟
      But if you come across sidewalks that you're having trouble getting through, call your local government about it. They are suppose to keep the sidewalks available. They can site the homeowner or fix it
      and then charge them. But make sure you mention you're in a wheelchair & have to use the street. If they won't do anything there's always the local news stations.🤔
      Good luck.❤

      @UseByDate-Expired 4 місяці тому

      You have zero idea what an easement is. By definition it is access to property, sometimes even the sidewalk is on private property, under easement, not ownership of the property. If that lot belonged to the old man, the easement does too. A verge is the area between the sidewalk and curb, and usually , but not always is owned by the city. In almost every city in the country, the property owner is still responsible for maintaining the area.

    The old guy has dementia and is scared of any change around his "property" I live in a condo duplex and my next door neighbor cannot deal with any change in the neighborhood. She goes into full blown panic if someone sells, or a unit gets new renters. If someone mows it upsets her and it upsets her if they don't mow. I got a new car in Jan of 2023 and she was upset and couldn't understand why my new car was in the garage for at least a month. The list could go on forever. You did the right thing and left before he decides to pull out a gun or tries to get physical.

I stopped watching him because there were so many "confrontations" in his videos that it seemed a little too much and too over the top to be legit. I watch a lot of lawnmowing guys, and none of them have that many confrontations, but most of them have the very infrequent incident, like this one. Most people are not going to get upset that an eyesore of a lot is being beautified.

    You weren't in the wrong, Brian! Most people in the neighborhood appreciate when an empty lot is cleaned up, mowed and the sidewalks made safer. Sometimes you run across a person who is just angry with the world. I don't believe he owned the property otherwise I am sure he would have informed you of that fact without hesitation. You did the right thing by leaving, Brian and not allowing things to get out of hand and possibly having a gun or knife drawn by this gentleman. He definitely has problems of some sort or he is just a mean and unhappy man. You did the right thing by not adding to his anger so don't worry what some people say in the comments. To call you a coward is just plain ridiculous! Those people making comments like that are ones who would be combative in situations like that and only make matters worse. Enjoy your videos very much, Brian.
