My cousin used to mow lawns in the 80’s and 90’s for a few bucks. He saw this one lady’s house and offered to mow it since her husband died. She didn’t have any money but she always made sure he had homemade chocolate chip cookies and milk waiting for him. He said he did it because it was the right thing to do.
When I was growing up people still used to know a lot of their neighbors, at least casually. It wouldn't have been unusual for neighbors to automatically step up to try to help where they could once they knew/realized an older and/or sick neighbor was in need. Or there would be boys like your cousin, out trying to earn an honest buck, but also with the heart to help out someone genuinely in need. I see how nice the next door neighbors yard is and it's a reminder of just how different people are now. Most kids feel too entitled to earn their own money that way, let alone help "out of the kindness of their heart". And the majority of people don't even know their neighbors next door and are far more inclined to complain than ever consider offering a hand. I was born in 69'... it's crazy and sad to see how much the world has changed during my lifetime, especially the last 16 since the advent of smartphones and social media.
BRAVO ! I watch a few different lawn guys. Only one episode showed a lady actually run out to the store and got him a few Gatorades and few snacks. I know AL does not want anything and sometimes the house owner actually after paying bills have very little but at least come out with a pitcher of water and ice. It is a small way to show your appreciation.

Right? I grew up in a place where you would just take your own mower over there and mow her yard after you did yours, now everyone is just worried about their property value but isn't willing to help an elderly neighbor.
In VA Beach code enforcement drove around giving out fines. No neighbor complaints needed. We got a warning when our mower was broke and Spring rains made the grass grow faster than our paychecks to fix the mower.
My neighbor had foot surgery, I mowed his yard on my side and his other neighbor mowed on her side. He didn't have to worry with it while he was recuperating. That's what we should be doing, not hiding in our houses.
Funniest part of code enforcement showing up is that they drove by a couple times and had trouble finding the place because it was that much different already.. Good work Al
I own properties in USA, Canada, France, Italy, and Spain. All residential almost all are long term tenants too. I'm thankful for that. A lot of them are older folks. The one house in Spain had an older couple living in it. The husband died this past January, leaving his 84 year old wife behind. The property was becoming overgrown. A Spanish man, a version of you, contacted me, offering me what you offer people. Free lawn service. I said hell yes. But I also offered him one of the Italian homes (near Rome) to vacation in any time he wanted. It has been vacant off and on for years. Sent him the lock code. And now he's cleaned that property up. I just can't win with you generous people. I'm going to adopt that man.

I'm an older lady. I pay to get my backyard mowed once a month. But I have a wonderful next door neighbour who mows my front yard and takes my heavy bins out each week. If it wasn't for his kindness it'd cost me more for the lawnmowing, and getting my bins to the sidewalk is very difficult, I have a bad back and a very steep driveway to drag the bins up to the kerb. His kindness and help are invaluable.
Good for your neighbor. I live on a street with a lot of elderly people, and since im still young (compared to them) I help where I can. A few other neighbors pitch in as well, to take care of lawns, garbage cans, etc. A community needs to support each other.

Anytime there was a hurricane 🌀 watch for So. Florida, all the boys in our neighborhood would help put up their family shutters or wooden boards. When they finished that, they would go around the neighborhood and see if anyone needed help. All of us teenagers would help them as much as we could (boarding up, moving loose items inside, setting up flashlights, anything portable with batteries, etc.)

Back in the day (I'm 74yrs. old) the city or neighbors would have tried to help someone in this lady's situation instead of using it as an opportunity to raise revenue. City workers actually worked hard to "help" people, police helped you fix flats - if you ran out of gas, they gave you a ride to the nearest gas station and offered the use of a gas can they kept in their trunk. Now they are all about "enforcement" - traffic enforcement, code enforcement, building enforcement, zoning enforcement, instead of "helping" citizens, they are telling them what to do and punishing them if they don't comply, regardless of your situation. Thank the lord for people like this guy that are all about helping people.
Even in the '80s and '90s when I was growing up, if the community saw that someone was having a hard time with lawn care, home repairs, etc., we would get together and help rectify the situation. We would get together and work on rectifying the situation. The sense of community has gone out the window, and it's saddening.
The biggest difference is that you have to know your neighbor in order to care about them. Many people these days don't know their neighbor (beyond politely waving at them) let alone go out of their way to help. I had my truck break down in the middle of the road 3 or 4 years ago and didn't have my phone on me but luckily a cop happened to be driving by. As I tried to flag him down by waving my arms, I was surprised to see him look me in the eyes through his passenger window before driving past me and continuing on his way. I was honestly shocked because I had a handful of experiences with cops being real parts of the community when I was younger. Sorry about the rant but I was almost done before I realized and couldn't turn back 😆
There have been a bunch of changes. The two main ones are. Home ownership is extremely expensive and limited to high income earners if you can afford a home (now) you probably can afford land scapers, add to that that in the last 10 years 30 percent of existing homes have switched from owner occupied to rental so now you have landlords using landscapers (or renters). Because of this the days of the neighbor pushing the mower over to grandma who lives next door every once in a while is just over.
You are absolutely right about that. Now it's all about rules, regulations and enforcement. It's a shame we have forgotten how to help each other. Bless you Al.

That's government for ya. I'm surprised people agreed to this "code enforcement" nonsense. A junkyard can have 1000 cars piled up but you can't have grass over 12in. It's really stupid. Not only that but they gotta stay in business right so guess what, like traffic codes, more codes and restrictions are coming. People are really ignorant if they actually voted for this.
This probably is a home owners association (HOA), not the government. And the"fine" is really just the cost they get charged from a lawn mowing company to have them come clean up the yard. Does this disadvantage low income households with elderly and disabled owners? Yes. Should we change it? Probably. But change is hard.

I spent three days just going through for cupboards and closets collecting 3 bins of canned foods, sauces, pastas, dry goods etc that he's been collecting for 10+ years. Hundreds and hundreds of cans, bottles and pkgs. He had seafood in his frig that had expired before his stroke...and it took me 2 days of basking soda, soap and lots of airing just to save his frig. The entire thing, every shelf etc reeked but neither he nor I had the money for new frig. Two weeks to clear out his food hord, scrub shelves, toilets, floors, do months of laundry etc. If that poor woman has been hospitalized for most of a year the inside of her home probably didn't look much better than the yard and personally I'd appreciate having a clean, or cleaner, home and someone to shop, cook and do my laundry if I was still feeling weak and run down.

Like if there was a home that was maybe a couple of younger women, or elderly individuals, or if someone lived alone. All of us teenagers would help them as much as we could (boarding up, moving loose items inside, setting up flashlights, anything portable with batteries, etc.)

Why hasn't Bladz been given a humanitarian award?
How great was this!!! 👍👍. ❤️❤️❤️
Bladez is a humanitarian award given by Al to everyone he helps!
because it only matters when rich or powerful people are doing things. When ordinary people do good stuff, it's irrelevant. Nothing they love doing than patting each other on the back
@@adedayod-one7470 Oh stop. No one needs your cynicism here. "Ordinary people" get recognized for being good to each other all the time, you just don't pay attention unless it's someone rich or powerful. That's on you. You would see more good in the world if you stopped looking so hard for things to complain about! And when you see good things happen, you want to make good things happen. Stop spreading the negativity!
@@TryMyMartini really dislike people like you, stop putting words in my mouth. I didn't say ordinary people didn't recognize each other, I didn't say there's no good in the world, I didn't say I only see rich people getting award that is your sad self projecting unto me. The context here is A HUMANITARIAN AWARD. My point stands and now you can print your comment on a t-shirt so you can let everyone know how you showed a 'cynic' his place and also pat yourself on the back. you should just try googling a little bit before pointing your self righteous finger, most popular humanitarian awards don't go to people like Bladez even though they deserve it.
I appreciate that you don’t judge, just help. You can never tell what people are going through!
😊
You are absolutely right about that. Now it's all about rules, regulations and enforcement. It's a shame we have forgotten how to help each other. Bless you Al.
15 back surgeries, 2 Massive HA, and a TIA, and I was outside constantly taking care of our yard, because I was the only sibling who cared for our Mother! When she finally passed, I was constantly ran to the Nursing Homes, the Hospitals, and take care of her myself! I’d do it again, just to see her one more time.

It was outside work my parents did before my dad passed away. My mom mowed her own grass until a month before she passed away at age 84.

This is so stupid, they know she has problems and health issues, but hey her lawn is overgrown so let's not help her but give her more problems with a fine. Yeah thats what makes it better. Thx Bladez for stepping up for these people.
Time to reduce the size of govt. You do that by voting for those who want less govt. You get what you vote for.
This probably is a home owners association (HOA), not the government. And the"fine" is really just the cost they get charged from a lawn mowing company to have them come clean up the yard.
Does this disadvantage low income households with elderly and disabled owners? Yes. Should we change it? Probably. But change is hard.
@@TheRavenCoder I highly doubt that it is an HOA. There are plenty of government boards that over-govern and fine people for dumb things. At least you pretty much admit that it is bad that govt does that. Vote against regulations and politicians who try to control you. Vote.

Some people missed that the son just moved back to take care of his mother. Some people are missing that special equipment is needed. Some people seem to have the thousands of dollars it would have cost to hire someone to do this. Some people are judging a man for being in the privacy of his home with his shirt off. Some people are judging his weight.
Some people in the comment section are why people stopped talking to their neighbors.

Lol. Nope. It doesn't cost you "thousands of dollars" to get someone to cut your grass. Alternatively, you can buy a brand new mower for $129 and do it yourself. It just takes a little hard work; nothing more.
@@davecarsley8773 Which part of health issues did you struggle to understand? Sheesh.

He's a bit of a hoarder so I ready for that but I didn't realize he's also a food horder and hates doing laundry, changing sheets, washing floors, dishes.

Remember back in the good old days when neighbors actually took care of each other?!? Those were the best days!! My boys were taught to always pay it forward. They’d finish our yard and do our neighbor’s because we all knew she worked crazy hours. Same with snow blowing. Just be kind and help others if you’re capable.
I used to shovel and sand my neighbor's wheelchair ramp in the winter. I knew they couldn't do it.
I also bought all the fencing to put in a new fence for my neighbors because they were in their 80s. That way, we were both following city ordinance. They taught me how to plant tomatoes and lettuce and I took them some rhubarb and the lady made preserves with it. Can't beat that!
The problem with that is if someone gets the slightest injury while helping someone or accidently harms the other property, even in the slightest, a law suit6 could ensue.

If the city knows a home is abandoned and no one is paying taxes, they won't bother sending anyone there to clean up the property bc they know they can't bill anyone. @robowenmikels Amen
The cities are cash hungry jackals. Code enforcement is a scam for additional revenue. Now I have to worry about my yard, especially since I have several trees overhanging the sidewalk, but also what I put out for trash. They’ve got a goon inspecting the trash cans when they’re at curbside. If you get a ticket they hang on the can, the garbage truck won’t pick it up. The insanity is that if I could go out and rectify what’s written on the ticket before the truck gets there, they’ll haul it off. But since I’m not there when they pick up, I get to keep my full can and figure out what eco regulations I violated. Got a ticket for an Amazon bag in my recycle. I didn’t even know what classification of plastic it was. They say it’s single use plastic. How was I to know that? Fines can be pretty severe.
I moved to my mom’s house as soon as she was diagnosed with dementia. For 2.5 years I was her caregiver. My two sisters never helped me. Never once offered to help. This son who is there for his mom is 💯 in my eyes.
I did the same thing for Mom and my Step Father for two years, hardest thing i ever did in my life. They both passed 9 day's apart. God Bless anybody that does that for the parents!!
But why wasn't that son pushing a lawnmower - looked like he could use some exercise.
@@MrPossumeyes Who knows. I wouldn't presume anything. He could have heart problems, or a bad back and can only do light duty stuff. Have ADHD or depression. Or he could just be too busy working and helping his mom inside the house to get to it. There's a hundred n one reasons besides just being lazy, and it's not my, yours, nor Al's business.
I like that Al didn't question, just did a good. It shows both respect, and not being judgmental.
The day I can’t look after myself anymore is the day I leave this Earth. I would never force my kids to become care assistants for a useless old man waiting for my final demise.
Because caring for someone and lifting them and tending to them when they soil themselves and ensuring they receive medical care all night is exhausting and not something one person can do alone
You and SB are the most personable lawn people I've seen, there's just something about you that sets you out from the rest.
Al, there's others on UA-cam who do yards, but for some reason I prefer to watch your videos. May God bless you, keep you safe and healthy so that you can continue to bless others.
I suggest Al visit the Code Enforcement office to find more properties that need his help.
Excellent !!
Nah they'd rather make the money off of the people by fining them.
Praise the Lord, you are feeling better!❤ Al, you always have a terrific show. Thank you for being who you are.😊
Sticker burrs are totally evil. You are a good man Al. Thank you for what you are doing for her.
In Australia we call them “ Bindies “
You did a great job! It is awesome that you saved this woman from being fined. Divine timing for sure!
I love how he said, "If this video gets one like, I'll come back"! 72k later lol thanks for what you do sir, it helps people more than you know.
89.000 likes by now, and counting.❤
98K now, please post the backyard link.
So refreshing to see a young man doing God's work, God bless brother.
God made a mess in her yard and Al is cleaning it up.
The world needs more people like you. Great job.
Thank you for doing this for her. ♥
It's sad that our communities kick us when we are down! They need to have an offer of help up.
Amazing outcome in photos and the the ladies that was going to fine her...Son didn't have much to say...hope he steps up and repay his mother for his raising...God bless everyone...🥰🥰
We have acreage property that when we bought it we took care of & maintained it (even in our 60s & 70s). Then hubby was diagnosed with recurring cancer that we thought he beat almost 20 yr earlier & now 2 yr later diagnosed with kidney disease & is now on dialysis because of the cancer & related drugs. We can no longer take care of our property like before. We have a guardian angel neighbor who comes over when he can & does with weed trimming & maintenance & mowing. He is a blessed angel. We used to help out seniors & never thought the shoe would be on the other foot & be the ones needing help because we'd been so independent & done everything ourselves our entire lives. But now we are so grateful to have our neighbor Joe's help & kindness beyond measure. Otherwise we'd have to sell our home because we're no longer able to care for it like in the past.
I’m so glad to hear you have help ❤! I’m very sorry about the serious medical conditions that have come back. 😢
You sowed good, and you reaped good!
You never know when you are going to be in need of help! Helping others is a blessing, and it makes you feel great!
I’m glad that he helps y’all with your lawn care that’s the way that people should treat others . God bless you and your neighbor Joe always . 🙏🏻
You have done a marvelous job to the front yard, and a thank you for taking the time to show love to someone that really needed it. Keep up the expression of love!
This is why we all love you, you actually care and give 100% to every yard you transform !!!! Fantastic job ❤️✨❤️ Al.
Never thought I'd be excited to watch somebody work after working all day good to see you
As I’ve said before Al, you’re like a painter. The lawn is your canvas and your mowers and tools are your brushes. You make the yard look fantastic. Great job.🙂
I wish people wouldn't be so rude and judgemental in comments. You never know what issues other folks are dealing with. The son might also have health issues (like asthma, or something) that make it impossible for him to take care of the yard in the hot Florida sun. Just be thankful that Al is there to help out! My daddy raised me "right" - two things he always told me: "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all", and "before you judge others, walk a day in their shoes". I'm sure you're all very nice people that just find it too easy to say inconsiderate things behind a curtain of annonymity.
Plus he just moved in. Maybe he's helping her get settled back in before he does anything🤷♀️
Amen, its just as easy to be non-judgemental as it is to be judgemental , but people often make the wrong choice.
I still think the least you could do is offer a cup of coffee, tea etc. as a thank-you.
@@christyvoyles9508 Yeah, if is mom is in and out of the hospital, he's dealing with a lot of arrangements, and stress on top of it, never mind anything he's got going on himself
The world needs more people like you. Please keep doing what you are doing!
I’m elderly, disabled, and poor. It costs me $250 a month just to mow the back yard. With my wrist injuries I can’t use any tools that vibrate so I have no option. Thank you for paying it forward ❤❤❤
You pay $250 a month just to mow your grass and say your poor. Wow. That's how much my wife and I spend on food a month off our disability Ck..
@@RobertRhondasmithwages are still low and prices are rising. mentioning that he’s elderly and disabled, $250 truly does seem a lot. don’t judge someone else’s struggle with your ignorance. not all disabilities are on the same level.
Honey, for $200 a month you would probably save money buying one of those electric automatic mowers. I would certainly consider it in your circumstance.
@@RobertRhondasmith Yes and count your blessings you are able to spend that on food and not on lawn care. I'm sure that $250 a month is a big contributing factor to this person's financial difficulties and I'd hate to know how much is left over for them to buy food after such an expense. Your situation does not discredit someone else's.
If I lived close I’d help you do it !!! That’s crazy !!!
God Bless you Al for the kindness in your heart to help those who can't help themselves...His eye is on the Sparrow....and your that sparrow ❤
Man, you made me have faith in humanity. You do good work for your community and especially those who do not have the means or ability to do the work.
This is so satisfying. Thanks for helping this nice lady.
Helping out people that need your services, to afford getting a fine is always wonderful. Offering the code enforcement officer, to help out other individuals that might need your help is outstanding. Great job. God bless you. Stay safe. 😎
You are the reason that makes America wonderful. I fought in Viet Nam because of people like you.
Thank you for your service!
Suuure ya did.
Thank you for your service, my dad was there and in the Korean War. I know how much you sacrificed💗.
Thank you for your service!
@@chrisw5742There are still Americans who believe in our great country.
Well done. as usual. God Bless you.
