Paragon tried to feature state of the art graphics to wow people without having the content, gameplay, or resources to stay afloat. This seems to embrace creating and discovering metas which is why I’m enjoying it. It is very difficult if you’ve never played Smite or League of Legends but that’s not to say that the game can’t be enjoyed through trial and error. You learn the more you play. This is a very well developed Alpha build.
My biggest concern right now is the HUD, as it is it's very, i don't want to say cluttered, but there's a lot of information to dissect and it's always on screen. It's all useful info, and by the time you are more familiar with the game, you probably want to have most of it available at a glance. I'm no game designer, but maybe when you first start playing, the HUD is on some sort of "simple mode" with only the bare essentials, and you have the option to turn things on one at a time. Maybe, after playing a certain number of matches the full HUD automatically turns on
I hope the artstyle of the hud matches the 'goofy horror undead etc' of the game. But I gotta say, the health bar looks sick, and the ammo/stamina being near your crosshair is very nice.
The whole unsecure souls thing for me took a while to understand as someone with 0 moba experience. In short, it's already automatically added into your Soul bank and are the number of souls you will drop when you die. From what I've gathered you don't lose any souls when you die if you have no unsecure souls; yes your character bursts out souls but those are essentially "new" souls. The amount of souls you burst out on death is proportional to your total souls from the entire match, so higher numbered players drop more souls on death. Unsecure souls are always in a weird Orb container and that's what drops when you die with them for others to pick up. Also, in regards to soul sharing; iirc two players close to a soul being secured/denied will have an equal share while 3 or more nearby will have an even split. The only exception is the souls secured/denied from major objectives are team wide. That's what I heard though so idk if it's exactly that.
this game is what i always imagined smite to be before i actually saw any gameplay. sure smite is over the shoulder but other than that its a flat moba map with moba abilities that just vanish into thin air after an arbitrary range. deadlock actually takes advantage of the new camera perspective with a vertical map, much more movement abilities, and longer range hitscan bullets that have damage falloff. 10:33 also as a big fan of graffiti art i always appreciate it when artists take the time to do (or at least use a photo of) a proper tag or throw-up instead of the random scribbles that most people think graffiti is, the lettering on that is sick
you can have an ability that does bullet damage that still gets buffed from "Ability" descriptors. It's one of my favorite things about Dota balance as it means each character usually adopts different builds because of these synergies.
my favorite part about being so early to the play test has definitely gotta be how organic all the updates feel. its very nice to see updates pushed consistently.
you are wrong, you can win without knowing those small elements. The only ppl that hates this design decision are the zoomers fortnite roblox players with ADHD that needs that a game treats you as a retardo
From my experience so far playing the game, its really easy to tell apart the people who play MOBAs like league to FPS/Hero shooter players like OW2/Val ect. Mobas have core fundamentals (ALOIS) and if you cant do them you will get lose pretty much no matter how good your FPS mechanics are, and good moba players will punish your mistakes so much harder. I would love to see a series between overwatch streamers vs league streamers haha.
And Dota streamer will dominate both League and OW streamers. The Depth of the game is pretty much similar to Dota because the lead dev is Icefrog. The Wombo Combo and the strategy like Rat Dota can be both applied in this game which Dota is superior with it. Even Laning Stage with a Deny system is such an Icefrog thing.
Ow2 is a moba. Like paladins and every other "Hero Shooter" but they all consider as a moba so, it's kinda right to say that deadlock is kinda like ow2, but its way different and more like a classic moba. But the action overall gives u some FPS shooter vibes, that's why many players who dont usually dont enjoy moves like this game so far.
@@neverbeen5691 Overwatch is NOT a MOBA. There's no upgrading abilities (remember that PVE skill tree?). There's no destroying the enemy base (we don't count spawn camping here).
The real lead of this game is Icefrog legendary Dota dev. A lot of mechanics are his game. You can expect a lot of great things from him especially the balancing of the game.
Hearing Overwatch vs Deadlock brings back bad memories of Overwatch vs Battleborn. They were never comparable. Gearbox just didn't stress the difference between hero shooters and MOBAs enough. I at least trust Valve enough to do it better.
I understand Valve's approach but the scary part of this model is not teaching fundamentals runs the risk of forcing newer players to seek outside resources. Meta will be developed, people will learn how to play, and on a hypercompetitive genre like mobas, one person not being in the know ruins the experience for everyone. League of Legends is a great comparison because the learning phase was absolutely dreadful for years. The game only taught you what you "needed" to know and it created scenarios where those who knew how to play hated their ignorant allies, and said ignorant allies hated being knowledge checked every other game. This is especially true now when everyone already has their complicated game to commit to and don't want to spend time learning systems in a game that seemingly doesn't want you learn them. They'll lose a few times and then go back home.
When you played Heroes of Newerth you are one of the OG´s my brother. Still playing it on private servers today. Started playing Deadlock yesterday and was instantly hooked!
06:20 As someone with 10k hours in dota and who stopped playing it for the last 10+ years I totally agree, the depth this game has got me really excited and im already addicted af.
I used to be an avid overwatch player, and still play mobas like League still. I have friends who dont play either games and are enjoying this game a lot. Im really digging this game as well.
This learning process is what makes DOTA 2 such a fun game to learn, you can learn the basic stuff and do well but then you start to notice "weird" things you didn't notice before and pick up the more complex mechanics
Whatever hero game comes out People: Another overwatch killer Fifa release a hero football game People: another overwatch killer But people didn't realize the only overwatch killer is the overwatch itself . This is a MOBA more like DotA, LoL, heroes of the storm , just because you play with a hero and it shots doesn't mean it's a overwatch clone
I don't understand why this game isn't compared more to Predecessor, it's literally a moba in 3rd person and a shooter, it's not like Ow2 which isn't even a moba and not like Smite which isn't a shooter.
I've argued this with my friends many times haha. They say its like overwatch. If you play it like overwatch. You will have a bad time. But yes it's more like paragon or predecessor as it's called now. The issue with that is hardly anyone remembers the game or has even played it. Everyone has heard of overwatch and played it. So it's up to us to correct them.
Smite is more known, also you do have to aim in smite compared to other mobas so while its not a shooter it still requires mechanical skill. But yea it is closer to predecessors
honestly did YOU play predecessor? because i played it. and on paper you could really say that. but let me tell you these 2 games feel vastly different. even smite isnt even close. just because its 3rd person and a moba? sorry but NO. if anything deadlock feels like a classic hero shooter in a Moba setting
Valve is kinda based in doing this game, because right now we don't have a cool moba shooter, the closes thing to Deadlock is Smite Gigantic gave a shot at that idea but it seemed to have flopped, but the way that this game looks feels good, feels like a game I'd pour some hours into with my friends and it feels like a game that hasn't been done before. It has that valorant vibe, but also a lot of the Dota elements as far as I've seen
To me the fact the it's Moba + Hero shooter makes the game-play so distinct from a traditional MOBA I hesitate to just call it just another MOBA like so many others.
1) Yes Lux and Ziggs are still 2 of the consistently best champs lol, lux is highly played 2) It's funny because how you described jungle in Deadlock was originally how it was played in League, until people started taking low income champs into the jungle to give solo gold/xp and we eventually end up here with carry junlgers. I've thought for a long time that the old way is better for so many reasons but Riot won't change a formula that's kinda of working
Sometimes when i shoot the guardians, it says "resisted", not sure what that means. And sometimes walkers are surrounded by a green ring for some reason 🤔
My biggest feeling in the game is that I was having very little impact in a shooter vs other games or mobas. I felt like nothing was happening and my influence and weight my character or play had was far lower and less direct than other games.
"Do you feel its critical for your initial experience to understand it? Because our model has been that we dont want to overwhelm you with information at the start " Brother, that dev 😂 The first 5 minutes of the game you have: - Urn - Spirit Damage/Resistance - Ability Points - Ability Unlocks - Ability Power - Souls - Team Souls - Unsecured Souls - Jump Dashing - Melee/Parry - Permament microBuffs from Boxes/Statues - 4 types of runes Thats from the first match that you would get from bots, the guy just asked what was that Growing Metal ball that is somehow tied to unsecured souls. That statement sounded like cope from an Intern, not a game developer. 😅
The game is Heavily MOBA bec. in early lanes you must adjust bec. their are counter heroes which is very important in early games the more you have sould/exp the more stronger you are. Valve did a twist where support become support core item wise/build wise w/c is very diverse and personally its TEAM base game in order to win w/c is like a MOBA.
Smite players will have an easier time especially ones who have also played hero shoots like Overwatch . many skills in deadlock can be found in gods in smite and it has the same 3rd person view as smite as well. so league/dota players have a disadvantage there compared to smite players who will find many skills familiar to them ( maybe dota/lol have similar skills too but never played either of them so idk just going by experience)
In terms of gunplay, yes, Smite players will have a fun time here as aiming is important. However Deadlock has mobility aspects that many Smite players are not used to, Even mobile ranged gods like Anhur and Izanami (Probably bad examples, its been years since I've played) don't have the same crazy mobility as Deadlock. Players who've played Apex and the new COD's will find the faster mobility appealing. Mechanics & and ability wise, DOTA 2 players will have an easier transition as many of the mechanics found in Deadlock, are also found in DOTA 2 (such as denying enemy economy and the Lanes). Many abilities found in Deadlock are found in DOTA 2 (Such as the Singularity ultimate of one of the characters have which Enigma also has, which is Black Hole). Overall, I agree with you that Smite players will have an easier transition...in terms of gunplay.
this game is very different to gigantic. gigantic has different maps with control points and no items to buy. the closest thing to deadlock is dota 2. deadlock is basically a 3rd person shooter version of dota 2.
I hope they remove the precise timing garbage from the dash/roll jump. Makes the movement feel clunky when you mess it up, and you WILL mess it up. It's a mechanic I feel is required to learn to enjoy the game. The timing feels different for every character because of the difference in animations. I hate it.
Can you win without knowing how the game works? For me enjoying a competitive game comes in a big way from winning, and without knowing how the game works (and/or having teammates who dont know) makes it harder I feel. Maybe I'm just old and used to playing my games by learning first (hp pools, damage numbers, how objectives work, etc). Otherwise you get Moiras who try and dps the Orisa or some shit like that (while if you actually calculate how much time you need of uninterrupted unhealed damage by Moira to kill a beefy tank you'll go do something else I hope).
This just sounds like how casual fps lobbies work where the topfrags are heros and the botfrags are minions that feed into each other while tops make plays around their contact. The obvious redundancy of trying to simulate this is probably why league players are regarded as toxic towards noobs. The noobs already exist as AI so they're unwanted in the very game that's trying to shoehorn them into a hero role and make them feel superior to something. The only thing worse is when people ask "hey guys what if we had a game mode where a random player on each team became an 'elite' character that's stronger than all the others h-haha wouldn't that be cool?"
I dont understand why people are saying its a Overwatch clone... people are absolutely fried lmao even fps players will try it out most likely, but if you arent a moba player or dont want to learn a moba, this game aint for you.
Dota players would dominate this game with the same approach of the game. Laning stage with a deny system. Wombo Combo, Ganking, and Especially RAT DOTA.
There's a certain raw joy you can only get from an early access game _in active development,_ seeing it take shape before your eyes, experiencing this shaping...
This design philosophy is good, but it breaks down a bit when you add the other players. I have VERY little MOBA experience and playing this game, you have so much information and tactical knowledge that isn't readily available and the other players treat you like an idiot baby if you are new. I want to learn how to play but I have basically resigned myself to bot games to avoid getting flamed for being new.
“learn as you play” is cool! but uhhh.. i hope it doesnt devolve into Overwatch2 levels of toxicity when you play like ass for the first couple of hours

How does the shop work? There's a community builds section. But why there is only some random basic items? How do I know which mid/late game weapon/spirit upgrade should I REALLY buy? It's frustrating as hell. Cause when I buy all the items listed in community build I still have like 10% on the team impact. It would be nice if these community builds included every item. Newcomers would have much easier learning curve.
Yeah pushing cart in tf2 is literally more fun than any of this i can tell that :D :D :D but casual players from league or fortnite enjoying it very much I can see that everywhere, even its way more complicated than dota already and i have 7k hours. You can do every move that u named in the video but have you seen how stupidli u died in almost every case in this video footage of yours? :DDDDDDDDDDDD and its still fun to you did u say? I used to be an avid overwatch player, and still play mobas like League still. I have friends who dont play either games and are enjoying this game a lot. Im really digging this game as well.
This learning process is what makes DOTA 2 such a fun game to learn, you can learn the basic stuff and do well but then you start to notice "weird" things you didn't notice before and pick up the more complex mechanics
Best game I played in years, feels so rewarding… it’s definitely 3d dota
Whatever hero game comes out
People: Another overwatch killer
Fifa release a hero football game
People: another overwatch killer
But people didn't realize the only overwatch killer is the overwatch itself . This is a MOBA more like DotA, LoL, heroes of the storm , just because you play with a hero and it shots doesn't mean it's a overwatch clone
I was a Twisted Fate and Karthus main in LoL from 2009-2012. We probably did battle once or twice.
I don't understand why this game isn't compared more to Predecessor, it's literally a moba in 3rd person and a shooter, it's not like Ow2 which isn't even a moba and not like Smite which isn't a shooter.
Agree paragon/predecessor is its closest relation
I've argued this with my friends many times haha. They say its like overwatch. If you play it like overwatch. You will have a bad time. But yes it's more like paragon or predecessor as it's called now. The issue with that is hardly anyone remembers the game or has even played it. Everyone has heard of overwatch and played it. So it's up to us to correct them.
cause nobody knows about those games
Smite is more known, also you do have to aim in smite compared to other mobas so while its not a shooter it still requires mechanical skill. But yea it is closer to predecessors
honestly did YOU play predecessor?
because i played it. and on paper you could really say that. but let me tell you these 2 games feel vastly different. even smite isnt even close. just because its 3rd person and a moba?
sorry but NO. if anything deadlock feels like a classic hero shooter in a Moba setting
I was never a fan of "play before it releases", so I will give it a try when it is out.
Thinking about it. This game is exactly like ( Super Monday Night Combat ) which is not a bad thing. That game was awesome back in 2012.
I like how people are saying that its copying Overwatch even though Overwatch copied Team Fortress 2 (which is a valve game)
this is nothing like overwatch
I don't know why people don't say it's more like Smite, an actual 3rd person moba.
And Tf2 copied Quake and Quake copied Doom and the list goes on untill we reach Pong
@crimzen147 its a 6v6 hero shooter with abilities, its pretty easy to see the resemblance even if theyre fundamentally different games
@@ExtrQuarkexcept minions.
Valve is kinda based in doing this game, because right now we don't have a cool moba shooter, the closes thing to Deadlock is Smite
Gigantic gave a shot at that idea but it seemed to have flopped, but the way that this game looks feels good, feels like a game I'd pour some hours into with my friends and it feels like a game that hasn't been done before. It has that valorant vibe, but also a lot of the Dota elements as far as I've seen
Having such a good time with this game.
To me the fact the it's Moba + Hero shooter makes the game-play so distinct from a traditional MOBA I hesitate to just call it just another MOBA like so many others.
1) Yes Lux and Ziggs are still 2 of the consistently best champs lol, lux is highly played
2) It's funny because how you described jungle in Deadlock was originally how it was played in League, until people started taking low income champs into the jungle to give solo gold/xp and we eventually end up here with carry junlgers. I've thought for a long time that the old way is better for so many reasons but Riot won't change a formula that's kinda of working
How long is a match and whats the fastest win time?
I guess this is why it took me like 2h at most to get into the game. Unsecured souls are basically unreliable gold from Dota.
Souls that you lose if you die before expending them isn't it?
Sometimes when i shoot the guardians, it says "resisted", not sure what that means. And sometimes walkers are surrounded by a green ring for some reason 🤔
My biggest feeling in the game is that I was having very little impact in a shooter vs other games or mobas. I felt like nothing was happening and my influence and weight my character or play had was far lower and less direct than other games.
"Do you feel its critical for your initial experience to understand it? Because our model has been that we dont want to overwhelm you with information at the start "
Brother, that dev 😂 The first 5 minutes of the game you have:
- Urn
- Spirit Damage/Resistance
- Ability Points
- Ability Unlocks
- Ability Power
- Souls
- Team Souls
- Unsecured Souls
- Jump Dashing
- Melee/Parry
- Permament microBuffs from Boxes/Statues
- 4 types of runes
Thats from the first match that you would get from bots, the guy just asked what was that Growing Metal ball that is somehow tied to unsecured souls. That statement sounded like cope from an Intern, not a game developer. 😅
is it just me or is everyone's default attack an automatic pistol or rifle?
Glad valve is sticking to their core game creativity philosophy. Let people play and figure stuff out.
I can say that it copies/references/borrows a lot of mechanics from DOTA2. Like denies, Mid-boss, power-up runes, teleporter gates, etc...
A lot of abilities and heros draw directly from Dota 2
And items too
likely that smite drew lots of its abilities from dota
Paragon/predecessor is it’s closest relation
It would be easier to compare this game to Gigantic, if anyone actually played Gigantic.
this game is very different to gigantic. gigantic has different maps with control points and no items to buy. the closest thing to deadlock is dota 2. deadlock is basically a 3rd person shooter version of dota 2.
yep, I just wish more people liked gigantic.
Gigantic is back, its actually free on epic right now lol
As a complete non-moba player, all I hear is talk of lanes, minions and jungles. I feel like I’ve developed Alzheimer’s just watching this.
I hope they remove the precise timing garbage from the dash/roll jump. Makes the movement feel clunky when you mess it up, and you WILL mess it up. It's a mechanic I feel is required to learn to enjoy the game. The timing feels different for every character because of the difference in animations. I hate it.
used to love the early morning stylosa videos. Glad you got away from overwatch that game is so pilled its unreal
So glad the ow scene is getting into deadlock
Do you think this will come to consoles?
7:30 the fact thet neither of these champions ahave changed roles in 10 years is insane...
Maaan I wanna play this game!!!!
This game really reminds of battle born in a way
This just sounds like how casual fps lobbies work where the topfrags are heros and the botfrags are minions that feed into each other while tops make plays around their contact.
When I was playing League a fews years back Lux support was meta
I'm really hoping for a console release
As a person that doesnt play any moba games, i understood absolutely nothing what is going on.
I guess i will stick to OW and AL
I dont understand why people are saying its a Overwatch clone... people are absolutely fried lmao even fps players will try it out most likely, but if you arent a moba player or dont want to learn a moba, this game aint for you.
bro i wish i could play this right now
do you need an invite?

Lux and zigs are very good in mid lane lol
Dota players would dominate this game with the same approach of the game. Laning stage with a deny system. Wombo Combo, Ganking, and Especially RAT DOTA.
It's unlike OW, it's like Smite, is it not ?
Smite/Battleborn, functional moba but mechanically ability fps.
There's a certain raw joy you can only get from an early access game _in active development,_ seeing it take shape before your eyes, experiencing this shaping...
This game reminds me of Battleborn
"Heroes? With personalities? AND abilities? It's Overwatch obviously."
Great content 👍

about lux and zigs at least in pro play both are played bot ziggs APC and lux supp but they are mid mostly in solo q
“learn as you play” is cool! but uhhh.. i hope it doesnt devolve into Overwatch2 levels of toxicity when you play like ass for the first couple of hours
It's a MOBA, it's gonna be hell a lot more confusing than OW2.
@@Circurose Im still learning how to play cuz theres a billion mechanics like infinite ammo when sliding, melee parry, downward dashing, dash jumping… and thats just scratching the surface
Its dota and battleborn, 2 games I love.
It baffeld me that people still bring Overwatch when talking about this game...
this game is very primary fire based its not like you can build full “ap” or spirit damage like usual u gotta get a mix of everything usually
I LOVE THIS GAME
Hey guys are there deadlock servers for other regions than NA? or should i just give up

I liked Deadlock better when it was called Battleborn...
ziggs is a solid adc and lux is fine.
I just realised where i can see my ping😤
i just really hope they ramake the ui, and the item and ability icons.
They look too generic, it's not like dota, for example, that just by looking at it's UI you know it's dota.
I don't want another moba valve, make tf3 HL3 L4d3. but this naa im good looks stupid
MOBA? Welp, I'm not playing it now.
i hope this game doesnt get solved in the way that LoL have been solved.
i wish i can play this game too
Yass19en 👍 📷 logo social media. UA-cam doesn't let me write it 😤.
I don't think I knowledge gap like that is good for casual players. I would have to watch a video to find out these mechanics and most casual gamers don't watch videos.
It's fine as long as there is skill based match making
yeah im tired of this trash sweat games with very little content where people play just for street cred. this is a rip off game

Any multiplayer game can become a "Sweat game".
I don't understand the "rip off" comment.
Its 3rd person dota shooter, if you think this overwath you will never able to play this game. This is not overwatch this is moba that you need to build your character.
At least this is better than concord
Looks interesting but unfortunately I don’t know anyone that can send me invitation :(
Deadlock aka Smite but with a budget
@ShiYuMeng2 lol imagine unironically saying to check out predecessor. concord is a better game than that crap
@ShiYuMeng2 my guy are u going to spam it under every comment ?
They are still very different. Smite is pretty much a traditional moba but in 3rd person. Where as Deadlock is a fully fledged 3rd person shooter combined with a moba.
where is the budget? all these pc games be looking like mobile or fortnite creative mode maps. A budget is something like gta 6. this trash flimsy games budget goes into propaganda and microtransactions to trick people into playing it.
@@willhancock2008 Bro, have you seen Smite? That’s the joke.
Played one game and had to leave it. Game lasted over 45mins and there was no end in sight. Not a fan of 1hr+ for one game. I know MOBAs are like that, but damn. Thats too long.
someone please be kind enough and invite me!!!!!, i wanna play this game so badly
Shooty smite
Tried playing it. Doesnt feel as good as overwatch and some heroes are OP af. Not being able to swap heroes is lame aswell. Who decided that was a good idea bro
Lmao
How the game teaches you how to play: "sink or swim, I ain't no helicopter parent"
@@sergeyiu2301 you used bad community builds

Yeah pushing cart in tf2 is literally more fun than any of this i can tell that :D :D :D but casual players from league or fortnite enjoying it very much I can see that everywhere, even its way more complicated than dota already and i have 7k hours. You can do every move that u named in the video but have you seen how stupidli u died in almost every case in this video footage of yours? :DDDDDDDDDDDD and its still fun to you did u say? I dont get it. OK MAYBE its because you just dont account that because you died only few times in period of 10min you accout that you been able to move around map and shoot something significantly more of time, so you basically had fun I agree lol. Im just really hoping they will not forget an epilepsy warning after releasing this for "fortnite" players as you sayd :(
